So I'm partying my anus off at my 20yr high school reunion, and I jump in the pool, cocktail in hand. Party party party... About 2 min go by and... Oh crap, where's my... Oh Jeebus!
Out I go and I pull my poor DNA out of my pocket.
I turn it off immediately and let it bake in the hot sun for about an hour (Palm Springs area).
I fire it up, and it's totally fine. SaWeet!
10hrs later, and all is groovy.
Love my DNA. Hate how stupid I was!

Nice!
I had a baby chew on my phone and it bootlooped for like 12 hours because of the drool. Then when it finally turned on the speakers were all effed up and it wouldn't hold a charge. I was filing an insurance claim when I heard a text message go through and immediately cancelled my claim. Now everything is fine and dandy. That was the worst 20 hours of my life (not really, but it sucked).

Mine hasn't been submerged, but splashed with water and it's still held up fine. My NFC decided to stop working for about 2 months afterward, but now it's working fine. Not really sure the two were related though.
I think the HTC Butterfly and DLX have a waterproof seal on the inside, but i'm not sure the DNA does, but still very resistant. It's no Xperia Z, but enough that you can pop it in a bag of rice and fire it up again, no problems whatsoever!

My DNA also got drenched so much there was fog on the screen, while in my pocket in a torrential rain storm (in remote India, for work). After a few days, all well again. An amazing phone, indeed. It's kept me happy and I've only momentarily had HTC One urges...
BTW, early 50s here. And I have an S-OFF, rooted DNA running Newt's GPE ROM on the T-Mo network. Pretty damn hip for an oldster, if I say so myself. But I have to admit that everything I learned I got from the youngsters here on XDA. Thanks to you all!

It has a yellow rubber gasket that seals the two halves of the case from water intrusion. The only places water can permiate are the USB port (which, unless yours broke or you removed it, is sealed fairly well with a rubber gasket on the cover), the headphone jack (also fairly well sealed inside) and the speakers (largest opening). I quick dip and water can't get in.
Weather sealed for your wallet's protection.
I was standing at the edge of a pond fishing and dropped mine in the water for like 2 seconds, I've probably never moved that fast in my life lol. Quickly shook it to get whatever water out and it never skipped a beat. Thank God!!!
well I ain't gone lie. I was drunk as all get out last weekend. I was all about using my phone in the pouring rain. well, it was pouring, I was drunk, I was walking in the rain to my car, taking pictures and texting and calling people lol. only thing I did was hold my finger over the headphone jack. a good 20 minutes walking In the rain... success like a boss!

They do. Most of them are decorative goofy looking baubles, but if you Google "3.5mm dust cap" there are some plain plugs out there pretty cheap.

Well, I think I must be the first one to do this, but I dropped it in the toilet and quickly grabbed it afterwards. I left it in rice for 24+ hrs. The phone works fine, any long term damage that might have occured? The water sticker on the battery is full red, any other sticker I can check to see if it was full water damage?
I had dreams of rooting and overclocking but I think I won't take my chances on that.

I had an old htc phone that I dropped in water, and did the same thing. Instantly put it in rice, and it worked fine. Only thing, it had a keyboard, and one button took more force to push, but that was it. I think you are fine. I wouldn't worry about rooting our flashing custom roms. The room itself will have no effect on the phone. Either the hardware will work, or won't.

there was an 8gb sdcard works perfectly fine. It stuffed everything in rice.
Guess I spoke too early, the battery is holding 15min charge only, guess I gotta get a battery though.
About halfway through my contract, I ran my Mytouch3G through a full wash cycle. After about twenty minutes of searching through the house for the thing, I finally searched the washer, with dread, and my phone had a completely blank screen and was constantly vibrating.
Stuck the thing in rice for twenty hours and it didn't work. Freaked out for a second, then it dawned upon me to try my wife's battery in my phone. Picked up a battery for $7 on ebay and found absolutely nothing wrong with the phone.
Still works now even after I picked up a new phone on contract.
After that, I trust HTC hardware a lot.
I had the same problem, but now my phone is much better. The damage that I got is the sound when I turned on the music. The sound was horrible. But is getting better now

Oh my god. That gives me the chills. Poor phone 0.0
Anyway OP, I recommend getting the Chichitek batteries, they're pretty much same hold as the OEM ones and you can get two for the price you would pay for one OEM one. I have 2 of those and 3 OEM ones (had to replace my phone cause I smashed it and then the replacement one kept rebooting got a battery on both replacements, if we lived in the same area I'd give you one for free).
HTC hardware is very durable... reasonably. Remember the guy on YouTube that put his EVO 4G powered on in the bottom of a sink and filled it with water... and it continued to work?

Well I have used the phone regularly today and I got 12 hours with 45% left so battery might be okay? I might be paranoid but the phone isn't working as fast as before? I'll take your advice on that battery though.
O any 1clickroot app for this phone like the HTC hero?

I've had mine since the week before the official release. I'd had a Behold II under contract and thankfully fussed at the right T-Mobile corporate people at the right time, and they basically gave me the Vibrant to shut me up.
Anywho, this thing has bounced off of countless things as well as survived a bathtub dump and an accidental washing with the laundry (disassembly required for proper drying out afterwards on both occasions). Has two tiny nicks on the chrome trim and one tiny scuff on one of the backplates.
Still runs like a champ! Best phone I've ever had.
I agree. My dad got this off a friend for 100$ flat and neither him nor I regret it. After all its been through it only has some minor nicks on the crome sides and a small scratch on the backplate. Best phone ive ever had

Hope it can last just one year longer. Then I'll be getting myself an iPhone 5.
My device as stood up against a couple of small drops. There are 1 or 2 dings in the chrome bezel, but, other than that... it's still flawless, and I've had this thing since a day or two after US release. I stopped using the rubber case, since I'm usually pretty careful (except the 2 dings)... and what's the point of buying a super sleek, ultra thin phone, just to bulk it up with giant case. I also don't use screen protectors, and my screen is still flawless. I mean, the Galaxy S series has Gorilla Glass... which is scratch resistant. Besides, screen protectors reduce picture quality, and touch response.

I love my vibrant but the only reason I like it is because of our awesome devs. before I learned how to flash and everything I ****ing hated this thing. the nexus phones are the only ones that work great out of the box and even then I think it needs tweaking before everything is great. I'm going with the iPhone next because I want something easy out of the box that doesn't require much work.
the way I see it is
Rooted, flashed and tweaked android phone >>>>>>>>>>>> iphone
out of the box
iphone >android
only by a little though
I like android more too, but with every device there are tradeoffs. I'm willing to be in apple's walled garden for now haha
I got my Vibrant right around when it launched. Put a Zagg shield on it and that Samsung carbon fiber looking case the same day. Actually replaced the battery on it two months ago and i finally took the case off to clean it. Not a scratch and still looks new. I didnt even pamper the phone. I just think the hardware was solid and im sure a good case helped keep the plastic looking shiny. Hope my new GNex looks as good in another year.
I dropped mine in molten lava, let it sit for a day in a bag of rice, and its good as new.
Vibrant is a freaking defy on crack. I've stepped on it, last Christmas I dropped it slipped from my pocket onto a pile of rocks I was on top of my garage, its tooken a million and one drops. It bounced off my stairs once and my little nephews flung it across the room. Amazing phone. :')

This might be the first fatality of an Evo LTE. It happened early this morning. I was loading my work truck with pipe for a project and I climbed up to tie down the pipes on the rack. I bent down to reach the ratchet tie and my phone slipped out of my shirt pocket landing face down onto some gravel. The back cover popped off. I climbed down and picked it up, and as I turned it around I saw the damage. Surprisingly I didn't freak out as one would expect. I called the insurance company and after paying the $100 deductible, a new phone will arrive in about 2 weeks. I had just bought the phone on Saturday so I hadn't really enjoyed it much yet.
Being that these phones are still new and some even on back order, I hope I'll be receiving a NEW phone and not a refurbished one. Lesson learned... never putting my phone in my shirt pocket again.

I was walking in to work today and I bumped my leg and my phone slipped out of my hand and landed smack down on the screen on concrete tile. I had the blue silicon gel case from sprint on it and from what it looks like it survived. However if I apply any pressure on the bottom of the phone below the home button on the plastic that touches the metal it makes a cracking sound like the plastic is rubbing together, and that could just be that small back plastic piece where the speaker is, does anyone else's phone make that sound?

Im not sure if it due to the strength of the beack of the phone, but the Metal bezel around the perimeter of the device. WHen i took my phone apart, the Metal bezel was super flexable. I think thats where the weakness comes from altogether. But thats my opinion. Other than that, I think this device is built very well. The back is incredibly ugly LOL, but has a nice feel to it. ALso the screen glass, is pretty durible itself.
The longer this phone is out the more it appears to be a model to skip. I don't think i have ever seen a phone bend before. Aluminum, while cheap, does not have the strength needed for this phone. Very poor design.

Why don't you buy an iPhone and drop that, see what happens. I don't think there is any other phone out there with the same build quality as this one.
Dropped my phone down a couple of solid wooden steps. My plastic back popped off, but there isn't a scratch on this thing.

Yea they should of used tungsten. It would of at least quadrupled the weight though.

Treat it like a phone/handheld computer, not a hammer and is fine.
once again get a effing case!!! everyone who has a case doesn't have any of these issues, it's a phone, you treat a $500+ phone like a $500+ phone! lolz this model is a great build....

Wow.! The build quality on this thing is AMAZING. I've dropped it so many times (clumsy me), and I just now dropped my phone one foot off a hard surface (which is quite a height, for me), and not a little scratch dared to show up on my phone.
How amazing has the phone's build quality been for you guys.?

Working in the wireless industry that is one of my favorite things people say to give me a good laugh and have me shake my head. So please tell me exactly how many drops are supposed to be required for a cracked screen?

I would assume at least one. If a screen cracks while a phone is being held, then I'll be mortified/impressed.
Overall, I'm pleased with the build quality of this phone. I thought the 3D moved forward in some aspects and backward in others, but I feel this phone simply moves forward. I chuckle when people say the back of the phone looks ugly. Are you spending a lot of time looking at the back of your phone?

Have you read the thread where owners of the phone said it is bending when it is their pocket? Any phone can break when you drop it, that isn't the issue here. The problem is it bends. Please show me any other phone that has this problem, better yet, show me how to stop it from happening. Is there a case out there that is designed to prevent a phone from bending?

So, heres how my clumsy self skipped several heart beats today..
I was outside on the phone with someone, and had them on speakerphone. I needed a drink so, I told the person to hang on and instead of just leaving the phone on the table, or putting it in my pocket, I decided to put it on the railing, as indicated by the circle in exhibit A below. I got my drink inside, came out and grabbed the phone. It slipped forward out of my hand and fell to the "2" spot in exhibit B. After bouncing off spot "2" it fell down to spot "3". Spot "3" is about 14 feet from the top of that railing it fell off. NOT A MARK on the phone (or the case for that matter). I screamed as it was falling, like a little girl and stared wide eyed over the railing at its final destination. The screen lit up, and I could see from 14 feet away that it was not cracked... All in all I cant fathom how this wonderful collection of various technologies held together flawlessly. Its amazing, and makes me love my Note even more!

@Simbill:
It looks like you were in Christmas Land (the lights). You got a gift!
I knocked mine off the top of my car once as it was falling to it's inevitable doom, i reacted by trying soften the blow with my foot. Battery and cover went flying and phone went face face first across the garage floor for a distance of 16 feet and hit the wall. Damage?? Little nick in the bezel that you can not see. Only can feel it if you run your finger around the edge of the glass. That is it. Was very lucky and think even though i wound up kicking i kept it from sustaining a serious impact (foot not as hard as concrete).

Mine slid off the car sit , hit the door frame on the car and the corner hit the cement curb ... just a little paint off from the silver and that is it.
Some crazy events. I still love it when people in public ask me "IS THAT A PHONE?!" Haha love being that guy
I had a kid walking to my store and tell me my phone was dumb he had an iphone so I held my phone up to above my head told him to do the same I dropped my phone told him to drop his and the little **** wouldn't do it

My Note was naked when I decided to take it put of my pocket to see how fast I was going on my Ruckus. I accidently dropped it at about 35. Bezels kinda beat up but screens in good shape.

Ok I have to ask, what app is this
Oh and to add to the thread, I would die if I dropped my phone. I think once I dropped it getting out the car, maybe 3 ft, but I have a TPU case, no damage at all. Other than that, if they made a chain to attach the phone to me at all times, that's where it would be.
Have glasst screen guard and ultra thin case.
Watched my phone fall out of my hand as I tripped while running up some stairs, in slow motion it bounced down 3 concrete steps and landed face down without a scratch. I'm shocked it surved.

While I love my note but sadly I was not as lucky. Dropped it one time since I had it and cracked the screen all over. Thank goodness for insurance. Still is the best phone I've ever used.
