Dropped in water for about 2 seconds... - HTC EVO 3D

Well, I think I must be the first one to do this, but I dropped it in the toilet and quickly grabbed it afterwards. I left it in rice for 24+ hrs. The phone works fine, any long term damage that might have occured? The water sticker on the battery is full red, any other sticker I can check to see if it was full water damage?
I had dreams of rooting and overclocking but I think I won't take my chances on that.

Dood if it works, then it works
I had a water damaged phone once, but it kept on going

I had an old htc phone that I dropped in water, and did the same thing. Instantly put it in rice, and it worked fine. Only thing, it had a keyboard, and one button took more force to push, but that was it. I think you are fine. I wouldn't worry about rooting our flashing custom roms. The room itself will have no effect on the phone. Either the hardware will work, or won't.

LOL I did the same thing with the Samsung UpStage once, nasty (sanitized the hell out of it but I couldn't shake the thought) luckily I was within my 30 days, I exchanged it >_>.

there was an 8gb sdcard works perfectly fine. It stuffed everything in rice.
Guess I spoke too early, the battery is holding 15min charge only, guess I gotta get a battery though.

About halfway through my contract, I ran my Mytouch3G through a full wash cycle. After about twenty minutes of searching through the house for the thing, I finally searched the washer, with dread, and my phone had a completely blank screen and was constantly vibrating.
Stuck the thing in rice for twenty hours and it didn't work. Freaked out for a second, then it dawned upon me to try my wife's battery in my phone. Picked up a battery for $7 on ebay and found absolutely nothing wrong with the phone.
Still works now even after I picked up a new phone on contract.
After that, I trust HTC hardware a lot.

I had the same problem, but now my phone is much better. The damage that I got is the sound when I turned on the music. The sound was horrible. But is getting better now

Oh my god. That gives me the chills. Poor phone 0.0
Anyway OP, I recommend getting the Chichitek batteries, they're pretty much same hold as the OEM ones and you can get two for the price you would pay for one OEM one. I have 2 of those and 3 OEM ones (had to replace my phone cause I smashed it and then the replacement one kept rebooting got a battery on both replacements, if we lived in the same area I'd give you one for free).

HTC hardware is very durable... reasonably. Remember the guy on YouTube that put his EVO 4G powered on in the bottom of a sink and filled it with water... and it continued to work?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ll_PkjeAgU&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PL43F3A10B36DF661B

I watched that EVO video it gave me hope. Lol
Well I have used the phone regularly today and I got 12 hours with 45% left so battery might be okay? I might be paranoid but the phone isn't working as fast as before? I'll take your advice on that battery though.
O any 1clickroot app for this phone like the HTC hero?

Evo LTE Fatality

This might be the first fatality of an Evo LTE. It happened early this morning. I was loading my work truck with pipe for a project and I climbed up to tie down the pipes on the rack. I bent down to reach the ratchet tie and my phone slipped out of my shirt pocket landing face down onto some gravel. The back cover popped off. I climbed down and picked it up, and as I turned it around I saw the damage. Surprisingly I didn't freak out as one would expect. I called the insurance company and after paying the $100 deductible, a new phone will arrive in about 2 weeks. I had just bought the phone on Saturday so I hadn't really enjoyed it much yet.
Being that these phones are still new and some even on back order, I hope I'll be receiving a NEW phone and not a refurbished one. Lesson learned... never putting my phone in my shirt pocket again.

I was walking in to work today and I bumped my leg and my phone slipped out of my hand and landed smack down on the screen on concrete tile. I had the blue silicon gel case from sprint on it and from what it looks like it survived. However if I apply any pressure on the bottom of the phone below the home button on the plastic that touches the metal it makes a cracking sound like the plastic is rubbing together, and that could just be that small back plastic piece where the speaker is, does anyone else's phone make that sound?

Wow.! The build quality on this thing is AMAZING. I've dropped it so many times (clumsy me), and I just now dropped my phone one foot off a hard surface (which is quite a height, for me), and not a little scratch dared to show up on my phone.

Yeah but you knwo what, with the first one i had, I had that slight bend as well. Im not sure if it due to the strength of the beack of the phone, but the Metal bezel around the perimeter of the device. WHen i took my phone apart, the Metal bezel was super flexable. I think thats where the weakness comes from altogether. But thats my opinion. Other than that, I think this device is built very well. The back is incredibly ugly LOL, but has a nice feel to it. ALso the screen glass, is pretty durible itself.
The longer this phone is out the more it appears to be a model to skip. I don't think i have ever seen a phone bend before. Aluminum, while cheap, does not have the strength needed for this phone. Very poor design.

I would assume at least one. If a screen cracks while a phone is being held, then I'll be mortified/impressed.
Overall, I'm pleased with the build quality of this phone. I thought the 3D moved forward in some aspects and backward in others, but I feel this phone simply moves forward. I chuckle when people say the back of the phone looks ugly. Are you spending a lot of time looking at the back of your phone?

Have you read the thread where owners of the phone said it is bending when it is their pocket? Any phone can break when you drop it, that isn't the issue here. The problem is it bends. Please show me any other phone that has this problem, better yet, show me how to stop it from happening. Is there a case out there that is designed to prevent a phone from bending?

My Note II Performed Seppuku Last Night

I guess it was pissed off that I neglected it for the last few days.
Plugged it into the charger last night, heard the chime, and that was that.
Pulled it off this morning, it was very hot (top right, not battery) and it won't turn on at all.

Seppuku (切腹?, "stomach-cutting") is a form of Japanese ritual suicide by disembowelment. Seppuku was originally reserved only for samurai. Part of the samurai bushido honor code, seppuku was either used voluntarily by samurai to die with honor rather than fall into the hands of their enemies (and likely suffer torture), or as a form of capital punishment for samurai who had committed serious offenses, or performed for other reasons that had brought shame to them. The ceremonial disembowelment, which is usually part of a more elaborate ritual and performed in front of spectators, consists of plunging a short blade, traditionally a tantō, into the abdomen and moving the blade from left to right in a slicing motion.[1]

Not if done properly. There was always someone there to perform a decapitation right after the motion was performed. If done correctly there would be just enough skin left so that the head was still attached, just hanging like a flap.

This sounsd an awful lot like the SDS issue.
I thought my phone nuked itself once too. In a situation very similar to the one you describe. I plugged it in one night, fell asleep, and woke up late for work because my alarm didn't go off. I grabbed my phone and it was scary hot (like, melted electronics hot) so I unplugged it, pulled the battery and left it to sit and cool.
Turns out I had left GTA running all night so it had my processor and graphics ramped up all the way. Whoops : / I thought it was toast, but everything worked fine after it cooled

Nice!
I had a baby chew on my phone and it bootlooped for like 12 hours because of the drool. Then when it finally turned on the speakers were all effed up and it wouldn't hold a charge. I was filing an insurance claim when I heard a text message go through and immediately cancelled my claim. Now everything is fine and dandy. That was the worst 20 hours of my life (not really, but it sucked).

It goes by crazy fast.
One day, you'll just be out doing your thing and it'll hit you like a ton of bricks...
You'll say to yourself: Holy crap! I'm almost 40!
Since when did senior citizens get involved with android? I thought you guys were still trying to figure out how to use your VCRs?

Mine hasn't been submerged, but splashed with water and it's still held up fine. My NFC decided to stop working for about 2 months afterward, but now it's working fine. Not really sure the two were related though.
I think the HTC Butterfly and DLX have a waterproof seal on the inside, but i'm not sure the DNA does, but still very resistant. It's no Xperia Z, but enough that you can pop it in a bag of rice and fire it up again, no problems whatsoever!

On a side note I just got the dna a couple of days ago at 0 dollars and am glad to see this phone is pretty sturdy

I'm 37 and I just got this phone a few days ago by adding a line to my account so I can keep my unlimited data plan. I gave my Rezound to my 16 year old for her birthday. So, yea, we old people lurk here too. NOW EAT YOUR VEGETABLES!

My DNA also got drenched so much there was fog on the screen, while in my pocket in a torrential rain storm (in remote India, for work). After a few days, all well again. An amazing phone, indeed. It's kept me happy and I've only momentarily had HTC One urges...
BTW, early 50s here. And I have an S-OFF, rooted DNA running Newt's GPE ROM on the T-Mo network. Pretty damn hip for an oldster, if I say so myself. But I have to admit that everything I learned I got from the youngsters here on XDA. Thanks to you all!

It has a yellow rubber gasket that seals the two halves of the case from water intrusion. The only places water can permiate are the USB port (which, unless yours broke or you removed it, is sealed fairly well with a rubber gasket on the cover), the headphone jack (also fairly well sealed inside) and the speakers (largest opening). I quick dip and water can't get in.
Weather sealed for your wallet's protection.
I was standing at the edge of a pond fishing and dropped mine in the water for like 2 seconds, I've probably never moved that fast in my life lol. Quickly shook it to get whatever water out and it never skipped a beat. Thank God!!!
well I ain't gone lie. I was drunk as all get out last weekend. I was all about using my phone in the pouring rain. well, it was pouring, I was drunk, I was walking in the rain to my car, taking pictures and texting and calling people lol. only thing I did was hold my finger over the headphone jack. a good 20 minutes walking In the rain... success like a boss!

Good story for us old folk, need to get my reading glasses though. Jk. I wonder if they make a little rubber plug that could go in the headphone jack.

They do. Most of them are decorative goofy looking baubles, but if you Google "3.5mm dust cap" there are some plain plugs out there pretty cheap.
Oh, and for the record to everyone else on this thread?
I'm 47

So I dropped my LG G2 in the toilet yesterday..

It was clean water, this was prior to any business. So of course I quickly took it out, must of been in there for 2 seconds. Took the case off, starting wiping it and then ran it under the power hands dryer(office bathroom) for a few rounds. It looked real dry and seemed perfectly functional. I decided to reboot it and then I got the "Firmware upgrade" screen. It didnt just reboot, so back to the dryer it went. I finally rebooted into recovery and then rebooted back into cm11.
What are the chances the device will corrode and eventually fail. I mean it must have dried pretty quick or not much must have gotten wet for it to keep functioning. I did have a case on it when it fell which most likely somewhat helped. Just not sure, too good to be true. LG G2 is water proof!!
Leave it in a bag of rice for a day that will help suck out water to be sure

Yes I was so lucky toilet was clean. I just walked in the stall and was just moving it to my shirt pocket before the business so that I could reach it comfortably and ploosshh.....sorry if this was too much info :good:
Usually the mistake people do in situations like this is to put on the phone to see if it works. It's usually then it breaks. Just leave it in a bag of rice in the oven for a day at least.

Buying desiccant is a way that you can do it without using rice. but most people seem to believe that rice works just as well. I have no idea I've never really compared the two before, but take your phone and put it in a ziploc bag, then put uncooked white rice in and seal it.
If your mom ever had you put a piece of bread into a bag with stale cookies to make them soft again this is the same concept except backwards.
I would recommend against putting it in the oven. Last thing you need is someone preheating it and forgetting what's in there. a windowsill is fine.
also turn the phone off and keep it off for at least 24 hours.
Glad your device still works, but in no way was that public toilet clean. Even if the water was fresh. Just sayin'.

Its sort of not public. Its a private office building, part of a hospital. Its as clean as its gonna get. Either way, its a good way to test my immune system
Just don't eat the rice afterwards.
My wife actually washed my iPod touch in the washing machine. I just put it on the dashboard of the car for a day and it was just fine.

I can understand you dropping it in the toilet because this phone is the sh*t!!!!!
Rice it out, good luck.
Water isn't really the problem, it's the stuff in the water that is conductive. If you could put the device in distilled water, nothing would ever happen. What typically happens is the device gets wet, the water evaporates and leaves behind crud that bridges circuits and causes problems. Should I ever submerge a device my plan is to re-submerge it in some isopropyl alcohol to displace the water as soon as I can. While rice and other things will coax the moisture out of the device, the crud will still be left behind. Hopefully it deposits the crud in a non-critical location.

For future reference if this ever happens to you again, do not power the device back on. Quickly dry it like you did pull the battery asap and put the phone in rice for twenty four hours as other users suggested. Most device failures happen when the power hits the wet electronics.
The oven thing isn't ment with the oven on, it's just a really dry place.
