It was clean water, this was prior to any business. So of course I quickly took it out, must of been in there for 2 seconds. Took the case off, starting wiping it and then ran it under the power hands dryer(office bathroom) for a few rounds. It looked real dry and seemed perfectly functional. I decided to reboot it and then I got the "Firmware upgrade" screen. It didnt just reboot, so back to the dryer it went. I finally rebooted into recovery and then rebooted back into cm11.
What are the chances the device will corrode and eventually fail. I mean it must have dried pretty quick or not much must have gotten wet for it to keep functioning. I did have a case on it when it fell which most likely somewhat helped. Just not sure, too good to be true. LG G2 is water proof!!
Leave it in a bag of rice for a day that will help suck out water to be sure

Yes I was so lucky toilet was clean. I just walked in the stall and was just moving it to my shirt pocket before the business so that I could reach it comfortably and ploosshh.....sorry if this was too much info :good:
Usually the mistake people do in situations like this is to put on the phone to see if it works. It's usually then it breaks. Just leave it in a bag of rice in the oven for a day at least.

Buying desiccant is a way that you can do it without using rice. but most people seem to believe that rice works just as well. I have no idea I've never really compared the two before, but take your phone and put it in a ziploc bag, then put uncooked white rice in and seal it.
If your mom ever had you put a piece of bread into a bag with stale cookies to make them soft again this is the same concept except backwards.
I would recommend against putting it in the oven. Last thing you need is someone preheating it and forgetting what's in there. a windowsill is fine.
also turn the phone off and keep it off for at least 24 hours.
Glad your device still works, but in no way was that public toilet clean. Even if the water was fresh. Just sayin'.

Its sort of not public. Its a private office building, part of a hospital. Its as clean as its gonna get. Either way, its a good way to test my immune system
Just don't eat the rice afterwards.
My wife actually washed my iPod touch in the washing machine. I just put it on the dashboard of the car for a day and it was just fine.

I can understand you dropping it in the toilet because this phone is the sh*t!!!!!
Rice it out, good luck.
Water isn't really the problem, it's the stuff in the water that is conductive. If you could put the device in distilled water, nothing would ever happen. What typically happens is the device gets wet, the water evaporates and leaves behind crud that bridges circuits and causes problems. Should I ever submerge a device my plan is to re-submerge it in some isopropyl alcohol to displace the water as soon as I can. While rice and other things will coax the moisture out of the device, the crud will still be left behind. Hopefully it deposits the crud in a non-critical location.

For future reference if this ever happens to you again, do not power the device back on. Quickly dry it like you did pull the battery asap and put the phone in rice for twenty four hours as other users suggested. Most device failures happen when the power hits the wet electronics.
The oven thing isn't ment with the oven on, it's just a really dry place.

If you can not take the unit apart to dry it out then open the battery door and remove the SIM and mini-SD if present. I am assuming the battery is still out. Then use a fan to blow air in through the open door. Use tape to hold it open if you need to. Let the fan run for a day or two before you try to re-install the battery. You may be able to do further disassembly before using the fan to dry it out. I think you may be able to remove the plastic part at the top (where the camera is). Just do as much disassembly as you can so it will dry out better.
Then, take a deep breath, say a prayer or do whatever you do for good luck, install the battery and try to turn it on. May the Force be with you...
I once took my Dopod U1000 for a snow trip and it was in my cloth-based belt pouch throughout the 5 hour heavy blizzard and it was dripping with water when I returned to the restaurant. I turned it on and used it without any problem. The next day this happened again, and still I was able to use it without any problem. For the next three days I wore the belt pouch inside my ski suit rather than outside.
I hope you are as lucky as me.

Solution
I have a good idea. Why don't you wash the unit with detergent. Detergent can always remove coffee. However if you have a dish washer you can place your unit inside it. One important thing to note is that don't use hot water as it might melt the screen.
If the unit does not startup it usually means its wet inside. What you do is put it in the oven for half an hour. After cooking it, you may even end up with a newer rom. If all else fails, keep trying. It will work one day.
I had the same prob with Eten M500 i put it in a bucket of rice for a week. I took all piecis a part and now its working great! take out the battery and the miniSD card adn then put them all + the device in a bucket of rice. I hope it works
Dry rice should work. Or kitty litter... unused.

Well, I think I must be the first one to do this, but I dropped it in the toilet and quickly grabbed it afterwards. I left it in rice for 24+ hrs. The phone works fine, any long term damage that might have occured? The water sticker on the battery is full red, any other sticker I can check to see if it was full water damage?
I had dreams of rooting and overclocking but I think I won't take my chances on that.

I had an old htc phone that I dropped in water, and did the same thing. Instantly put it in rice, and it worked fine. Only thing, it had a keyboard, and one button took more force to push, but that was it. I think you are fine. I wouldn't worry about rooting our flashing custom roms. The room itself will have no effect on the phone. Either the hardware will work, or won't.

there was an 8gb sdcard works perfectly fine. It stuffed everything in rice.
Guess I spoke too early, the battery is holding 15min charge only, guess I gotta get a battery though.
About halfway through my contract, I ran my Mytouch3G through a full wash cycle. After about twenty minutes of searching through the house for the thing, I finally searched the washer, with dread, and my phone had a completely blank screen and was constantly vibrating.
Stuck the thing in rice for twenty hours and it didn't work. Freaked out for a second, then it dawned upon me to try my wife's battery in my phone. Picked up a battery for $7 on ebay and found absolutely nothing wrong with the phone.
Still works now even after I picked up a new phone on contract.
After that, I trust HTC hardware a lot.
I had the same problem, but now my phone is much better. The damage that I got is the sound when I turned on the music. The sound was horrible. But is getting better now

Oh my god. That gives me the chills. Poor phone 0.0
Anyway OP, I recommend getting the Chichitek batteries, they're pretty much same hold as the OEM ones and you can get two for the price you would pay for one OEM one. I have 2 of those and 3 OEM ones (had to replace my phone cause I smashed it and then the replacement one kept rebooting got a battery on both replacements, if we lived in the same area I'd give you one for free).
HTC hardware is very durable... reasonably. Remember the guy on YouTube that put his EVO 4G powered on in the bottom of a sink and filled it with water... and it continued to work?

I watched that EVO video it gave me hope. Lol
Well I have used the phone regularly today and I got 12 hours with 45% left so battery might be okay? I might be paranoid but the phone isn't working as fast as before? I'll take your advice on that battery though.
O any 1clickroot app for this phone like the HTC hero?

LOL well I did clean it vigorously (Lysol, Purell etc.), I had intent on using it.
Plus I'm not so sure that admission would've went over too well.

I've had mine since the week before the official release. I'd had a Behold II under contract and thankfully fussed at the right T-Mobile corporate people at the right time, and they basically gave me the Vibrant to shut me up.
Anywho, this thing has bounced off of countless things as well as survived a bathtub dump and an accidental washing with the laundry (disassembly required for proper drying out afterwards on both occasions). Has two tiny nicks on the chrome trim and one tiny scuff on one of the backplates.
Still runs like a champ! Best phone I've ever had.
I agree. My dad got this off a friend for 100$ flat and neither him nor I regret it. After all its been through it only has some minor nicks on the crome sides and a small scratch on the backplate. Best phone ive ever had

Hope it can last just one year longer. Then I'll be getting myself an iPhone 5.
My device as stood up against a couple of small drops. There are 1 or 2 dings in the chrome bezel, but, other than that... it's still flawless, and I've had this thing since a day or two after US release. I stopped using the rubber case, since I'm usually pretty careful (except the 2 dings)... and what's the point of buying a super sleek, ultra thin phone, just to bulk it up with giant case. I also don't use screen protectors, and my screen is still flawless. I mean, the Galaxy S series has Gorilla Glass... which is scratch resistant. Besides, screen protectors reduce picture quality, and touch response.

I love my vibrant but the only reason I like it is because of our awesome devs. before I learned how to flash and everything I ****ing hated this thing. the nexus phones are the only ones that work great out of the box and even then I think it needs tweaking before everything is great. I'm going with the iPhone next because I want something easy out of the box that doesn't require much work.
the way I see it is
Rooted, flashed and tweaked android phone >>>>>>>>>>>> iphone
out of the box
iphone >android
only by a little though
I like android more too, but with every device there are tradeoffs. I'm willing to be in apple's walled garden for now haha
I got my Vibrant right around when it launched. Put a Zagg shield on it and that Samsung carbon fiber looking case the same day. Actually replaced the battery on it two months ago and i finally took the case off to clean it. Not a scratch and still looks new. I didnt even pamper the phone. I just think the hardware was solid and im sure a good case helped keep the plastic looking shiny. Hope my new GNex looks as good in another year.
I dropped mine in molten lava, let it sit for a day in a bag of rice, and its good as new.
Vibrant is a freaking defy on crack. I've stepped on it, last Christmas I dropped it slipped from my pocket onto a pile of rocks I was on top of my garage, its tooken a million and one drops. It bounced off my stairs once and my little nephews flung it across the room. Amazing phone. :')

This might be the first fatality of an Evo LTE. It happened early this morning. I was loading my work truck with pipe for a project and I climbed up to tie down the pipes on the rack. I bent down to reach the ratchet tie and my phone slipped out of my shirt pocket landing face down onto some gravel. The back cover popped off. I climbed down and picked it up, and as I turned it around I saw the damage. Surprisingly I didn't freak out as one would expect. I called the insurance company and after paying the $100 deductible, a new phone will arrive in about 2 weeks. I had just bought the phone on Saturday so I hadn't really enjoyed it much yet.
Being that these phones are still new and some even on back order, I hope I'll be receiving a NEW phone and not a refurbished one. Lesson learned... never putting my phone in my shirt pocket again.

Hell why not put it in a pocket that actually holds stuff vs a pocket that stuff easily slides out of lol. I never have and never will put anything in a shirt pocket. Only time I ever put stuff in a pocket by my chest was in the navy cause that pocket closed and nothing could fall out

mine fell out of the side of my backpack and landed on a tile floor. Didn't damage the screen at all, but it bent the metal frame. I was able to bend it back most of the way, but there is still a small gap between the frame and the screen.
What was the insurance company that you use?
And why is it taking two weeks?

I actually just ordered two cases from TPU last night so I should be getting them this week. A little late, but my next phone will enjoy the benefits.

I don't usually put it in my shirt pocket, but at work there are many times when I work around loud noise so I keep it in my pocket so I can hear it better. It was a bad idea this morning and I've learned my lesson the hard way.

Yes, everything still works fine. I just unrooted it and ran the RUU to clear the "Tampered" message.

I have Sprint's insurance. Because it's such a new phone the insurance company doesn't have any stocked yet. That's why I'm hoping that means I'll be getting a new phone instead of reburbished.

Sorry to see that bro, guess it takes a bad experience to bring affirmative action for the next device. Better luck! and good thing you had insurance!
That stinks. May I suggest the Otterbox defender? Great case...

I was walking in to work today and I bumped my leg and my phone slipped out of my hand and landed smack down on the screen on concrete tile. I had the blue silicon gel case from sprint on it and from what it looks like it survived. However if I apply any pressure on the bottom of the phone below the home button on the plastic that touches the metal it makes a cracking sound like the plastic is rubbing together, and that could just be that small back plastic piece where the speaker is, does anyone else's phone make that sound?

Did you have a case? If so which one?
Doesn't this post tell us that this phone does NOT have gorilla glass like the OneX??
No this post tells us that it is still just that Glass. It's not unbreakable.

My co-worker decided his was dirty, and that he would wash it with his clothes.
This kills the EVO.
Lucky for him,we used another upgrade (corp account) so he just has to pay another 200 instead of the full 550 for his replacement. lol
My girlfriend decided to wash the sheets.. white note, hard to see on white sheets. My phone popped in my head, so i looked around.. it wasn't in the 3-4 places it normally was, and i remembered it was on the bed. We ran to the washer, waited for the lock to disengage from our front-loader, and bam.. soft white glow from the back. The screen was still on, so I immediately removed the soft case, cover and battery. Pulled the sim, sd card, even the stylus. It's now in a ziplock bag full of rice, sitting on a chair in the sun. Any thing im missing? Should i leave it for 24 hours? Longer?
While you're waiting for it to dry check your insurance policy.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I love reading stories like this. Not because I enjoy the misfortune of others (well not in this case atleast), but because it reassures me that I'm not the only one that **** like this happens to.
As for what your doing, it's a great start. Make sure you flip it around some to move the water around. I simply can not believe that the screen was on, that's amazing. Expect some sensor damage, but you may have made it to it in time to save it. I've dropped phone into ponds and managed to save them, yet had ones suffer permenant damage from a glass of water spilling on them. It's a game of chance. If your feeling really froggy, you can open it up. Then let dry or even wipe down with alcohol to get any excess water out. Regardless of the outcome, sounds like the GF owes you some serious "compensation" for the emotional stress and turmoil she has put you through.
Edit: if you decide to open, it'll require a very small philips screwdriver, one small enough for glasses screws. Canned air/compressor helps remove excess water too.

Fabric softener ?!?!
kidding dang, that sux, but you might be able to $cash$ in with your GF....know what I mean....I would be very emotionally distressed....
Try leaving it for least 48hrs. Then examine it to make sure there isn't moisture. When you feel its completely dried..turn on the phone. Make sure to clean the battery terminals.

Rice is much much much too large to actually be effective as a Desiccant in most cases such as this.
The best course of action is to immediately disassemble the phone, take some rubbing alcohol and a q-tip over the entire board, the alcohol will mix with the water causing it to evaporate significantly faster.
Then leave it on top of an upward pointing fan over night.
IDK if it would help...I took my kids phone when he jump in our pool...:crying:
did the rice thinng for a day...
since it gets like 109-115 in our area in the summer (SouthWest AZ)...I put it in the dash of my truck mid day, face down battery out ...for 2-3 hours...it dry out completely, almost melted...LOL.... but it still worked!
It was not a note but still a phone, so IDK maybe it will help...

It actually works fine. He placed in bag and left in a warm location. This causes the humidity to be absorbed by the rice. I've used this trick many times with rather good results.

The grains are still too large to get inside the Damn case...if you want to be 100% sure it's dry you have to take it apart, and at that point rice is slow as hell compared to alcohol..
It may work, but it's not the best way...And it could still leave moisture in there that could cause issues in the future.
Just like walking 100 miles will get you to your destination...but i bet you would prefer to to have a better form of transportation.
LOL, my bad. I assumed that when you said it wouldnt work that you meant it wouldnt work, not that it would work but not the best possible method. Just like when most say it will work, we didn't realize we meant that it would "get inside the Damn case". Like I said, my bad. Didn't mean to offend you.
Lol sorry if i sounded upset...
I repair drive thru systems for a living..Just had this exact conversation with a customer that dropped a headset in the dishwasher, who just kept insisting that rice would be perfect.

NP, my point is its better then nothing. And by "steaming" it in a closed container it helps keep it in a very dry envoronment. I actually have a parts cooker in my garage used for when something can't be opened and also serves as a baking oven for refinishing firearms (wife got sick of me using her oven)
Yes alcohol is better if you know what your doing with it (suggested it myself earlier), but i've seen people do damage by soaking things in it. I started my career years ago as a hardware tech and have used rice and silica many many times as a last option.

The problem is that he didn't leave it in long enough. OP, mirowave that SOB for about 3-5 minutes (Time May Vary Depending On Wattage Of Microwave)
I will personally guarantee that all traces of water will be gone.
