I've just inherited an un-rooted and unbranded HTC Hero from Norway and can't login to my Google account. It comes up with an error saying that it can't access the Google server, so I'm wondering if the phone is routing it wrongly somehow. I'm in the UK using a WiFi connection. The language options include Norwegian, Swedish & Danish, as well as English for each of those countries, so the ROM is clearly localised to those regions.
I could root the phone, but would rather just leave it as stock. I've also noticed that its possible to load a WWE RUU. However, I'd rather avoid those options if I can and resolve the issue.
Anyone know what is causing this and how this can be resolved?

Hello to everybody!
I just signed in to this forum and browsed through the postings. There's already tons of info and I found several valuable tips, but I miss one or two topics:
How to enhance transcriber text input to be able to comfortably use it for more than one (default) language?
The reason for this is quite simple: I usually use my german OS settings, but frequently want to write english or maybe french emails.
Transcriber does not support text input other than OS default language, so recognition of english text is quite poor and takes a long time to enter without typo.
Any hints?
And then there's something on GPRS and roaming: I just discovered that EG in danmark there's no O2 GPRS roaming partner, but unlike with a T-D1 device, with the O2 XDA I can not use GSM instead, and customer support says it doesn't work because they don't have a roaming partner and that's it. I do not believe them: There must be a way to route the connection through GSM networks to OS germany.
The default GPRS settings provided by O2 were a bit unstable even at home, but I found better settings which now work quite reliably. I think there may be GSM settings O2 did not provide for whatever reason, but which will nevertheless work. Am I wrong?

HELP!!!
Since I downloaded and installed the latest O2 ROM update (from Source O2) I now don't seem to be able to connect to GPRS.
The message I get is "The answering modem has disconnected. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings." If I select settings everthing seems as it should.
After the update I ran the auto configuration within the O2 Active for UK, PostPaid and GPRS. So things should be OK shouldn't they? When I try and rerun the auto config it preselects Germany (is this just a default or is does this read from the settings in the system?)
Within GPRS settings the authentication is set for PAP (I've tried CHAP but it still doesn't work) and I'm using it as a Class 8 (4R1T) device.
I am also not getting the GPRS "G" appear at any point, so this might indicate that my local cell is not allowing GPRS at the moment, although it's been like this now since Thursday/Friday and I would have thought that it would have been fixed. (Southampton East - if anyone wonders)
Also it worked before the update so I know that GPRS is working on my account.
Does anyone have any ideas? I am stumped!
There is a bug on the xda2, I had the same problem with the German settings, even when I chose uk it still rebooted to the German, if you do it again, choose the uk, assuming you are in uk, wait a bit, then tap it again before doing ok, it took me 4 attempts.
I'm pretty sure that the autoconfig applet only loads settings if you have the check box selected and then close the applet. It doesn't really matter what is displayed in the check box when you actualy open the applet as these setting will not be loaded (unless you select the tick and then close auto config).
I have updated my XDA II with the ROM from the Asian site and have been using GPRS without issue. If you are not getting the G displayed it may be like you said that your telco's GPRS is currently offline?

Panic Over - I can confirm it's just my local cell not liking GPRS at the moment, Phew!! I think I paniced too soon
I've visitied my parents today across the country and GPRS works for me there so must be O2 in Southampton East - rotten lot
Hi, Newby here, so may have been answered before. I have a V1605 (HTC Hermes) which I bought in the UK but am now using in South Africa where I am working for a year. Problem is that when I enter the MTN settings for my local email, the password seem to be over written by the original Vodafone one (or the new one is shown twice). Is there any way I can change this?
Thanks
I do not think that your password is 'overwritten'! It is more likely as in other common application that for security purposes more ***** are shown than your current passwort actually has, so, no one can determine how many characters your password really has!
Hello, I need help. I installed 3 2.1 sense ui roms and when I tried to connect to the web I have no data. I am in a area that has no tmobile service so I am always roaming. I am in the USA and I have a unloacked htc hero. Also when I use cmh 1.4.3 I can get data service. Any help is appreciated.
Settings -> Wifi and Network -> Mobile networks -> Enable Roaming
Edit: Some ROMs have this enabled by default, some don't...
I have already done that but still didn't work
Sent from my Hero using XDA App
Any other thoughts on this?
I think I figured it out. Tell me if this sounds like the problem. All the roms I have been trying do not have English (United States) in the locale but cmh 1.4.1 does that is how I am able to use that rom.
I speak English and have my phone set to English (United Kingdom). However, I work and live in Germany and make frequent trips within Europe. I have to change my SIM card quite often and everytime I do I have the following problems:
1. The language changes to the language of the SIM (German, Polish, Latvian, Czech) and I have to manually change it back.
2. I always have to reauthenticate with google. Is there anyway to have a list of "trusted" SIMs?
These problems area really annoying because I switch my SIMs several times a day to check for text and voice messages on each SIM.
nobody else has these problems?
