[Q] Android System Dictionary - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way to edit system [not user's] dictionary?? Android keyboard is suggesting me a lot of misspelled words (my lang is pt-br) and those words were never typed by me. An example of this (I don't know why but still I'm giving one) is the word "no" in portuguese: "não". It is giving me "náo". It's not a big difference, but I apreciate that something I typed correctly won't be turned to an error.

instead of editing sytem dictionary why dont you just disable auto-correct option from your stock keyboard..
or you could add those words to your dictionary
for GB rom: Settings -> Language & Keyboard -> User Dictionary
for ICS n above: Settings -> Language & Keyboard -> Touch Input (settings button) -> Personal Dictionary -> Edit personal dictionary

Thanks for the reply, but I want to keep auto correction... I guess I will try to correct the errors I go finding by putting the right word in the user dictionary.

how to change dial pad keypad?

hi
i have a question regarding the "smart dial".
i installed on my hero a language support (installed fonts on it),
as it was posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544002
(BTW thank u fakeer )
im also using "any soft keyboard" to write and search contacts.
the problem is that when i tap on "phone" i can only get "smart dial pad" with English letters on it...
is there a way to change it to a different keypad?
also, if i install the new ROM will it delete my language support i added?

Arabic Font Not Displaying in SMS

download nd install mobidiv. its free. google it.
Actually not any mobidiv, search for Mobidiv 4.31 Pack 32.
Google that :

I got a couple of arabic writing sms/mms ! none of them shows!
Dose that file MOBiDIV_Arabizer_431_WM65_AR_TSD_2009Oct12.Cab Fix my problem too ?
Dont wanna get bugs, and wanna be safe before i install it
Now i have tested this damn arab cab! and it messed upp my phone!
When u install it half the phone is in arabic and the other half in Swedish/english! in my case
when i tried to remove it the phone crashed and i could never start it again after several soft reset and etc!
So i had to do a Hard rest and lost every thing ..
So again is there any other way just to add arabic fonts the the SMS serction without making the hole phone in arabic languche ?

I came to the conclusion that the arabic rom doesnt work unless you change the whole interface into arabic, and there is no working english with arabic support cab.
solution for your problem
Hey guys,
I had the same problem with my HD2, and here is the solution to your problem:
download and install mobidiv arabizer 454, this is the latest version, and it works on most if not all ROMs. After you install it, half of your phone will be in arabic, and half in english as you've mentioned. to Fix that, go to your start menu on your phone, and go into arabware app. Under the control tab, select English with arabic enabled (control tab might sh.ow like this ????? before you do this step) but anyway, it is the second tab from the right. Do this and restart your phone. This should take care of everything except for the date. Go into the arabware app again, and under country tab, select english US, hit ok and restart again and you'll be all sit.
these 2 steps have to be done separately.
The only issue you MIGHT have with some ROMs after you do this, is reading/typing arabic text msgs or emails. This is not because mobidiv does not work, this will be because your ROM does not have arabic font in it. To get this fixed please do the following which I'll explain briefly and you can email me if you need more details:
go to the fonts folder on your PC, found under c:/ >> windows >> fonts.
copy the font Calibri and the fot Tahoma (I think thats what its called) and make a cab file for each one. Copy them onto the external memory on ur windows mobile phone, and install... and Arabic will work perfect.
This might seem like a long process but its pretty easy.
Good luck, and sorry for the super late reply Im not here very often,
I hope you guys get to see this

How do you make a .cab file.
Or is it possible that you can upload a ready made .cab file with these fonts as i am totally clueless of how to do this.
thank you.
Come on guys, It's just arabic !
Flash a fresh ROM (to get rid of Half/half thing & backward letters) and then Download and install those cabs from here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9543910&postcount=4
Install mobidiv first then the keyboard, you might want to look the post below me for SMS fix

Sorry i dont usually post questions unless ive exausted all other options and im usually pretty good at following direction and making things work.
Now ive already done all that before posting my question, i got the phone to have the arabic program which turned the phone to arabic until i switched it back to english with arabic enabled and country to us.
Now i can read arabic on my phone on some programs but sms are squares (already had the sms fix installed last). Also, when previewing my emails i see squares but when i open the email i can see the arabic. so im guessing my phone is missing system fonts that why i asked for them.
Ive managed to make it work before with another rom pretty easily, im using chucky rom and i read somewhere that if all previous downloads didnt work its probably the rom is missing the fonts.
any help is much appreciated i really like the chucky rom and would like to continue using it.

As for many of you having troubles with "shift" key not working. Touch the text input window and hold your finger on it until a menu appears, chose input methods, choose android keyboard and NOT the HTC one I don't know why but "shift" key will work again!
As I got a lot of requests regarding different hardware keyboards I'll like to start a thread in order I can build you guys custom keyboard layouts for your froyo or gigglebread roms. My goal is it to have all languages sooner or later updated and organized in this thread.
I need to the following from you guys so we can make the hardware keyboard work.
your qwerty.kcm.bin and your qwerty.kl from your old Sony Ericsson Firmware (/system/usr/) i need the entire folder with keyboard-config, keyboard-chars etc..
List your buttons and which button should have which character on blue/sym button and if you need capital letters as well which key should appear on blue/sym and shift button press
List you special signs, like underscore, plus, minus, etc .. even if you need a key frequently which is not on the default keyboard layout from sony we can still place it on a different button suitable for you
and last but not least any special requests, like numbers or so in the wrong place.
If you want to have an exact copy of your hardware keyboard as it is on your device (like the blue letters and number) please post a picture
As for many of you having troubles with "shift" key not working. Touch the text input window and hold you finger on it until a menu appears, choose android keyboard and NOT the HTC one I don't know why but "shift" key will work again!
I'll place all the keyboards in the second post for you once they are finished.

hi, i just want the original x10 mini pro Portuguese From Portugal(PT-PT) thanks
well as i do not speak pourtuguese do you have the original qwety.kcm.bin or something like that? or button mapping? thanks! (its in the list in 1 thread what i need)
you know what would be best just post a picture of your hardware keyboard. and i'll make the files for you

Good stuff man.
its guys like you who makes XDA what it is.
keep up the good work
Good thread, . I have one suggestion thought, I suggest you move all the keyboard layout submitted to the first post with thanks to the finder/inventor. That way people will easily find what they need.
yes of course i'll give the credit to the people who found it. Once there is more keyboard i'll start using external links, so we can divide languages from each other and also make it easier to give credit.
how do you get the qwerty.kcm.bin and qwerty.kl files? do u need to use root explorer or what? im new at this, sorry
hey, is it possible to put in german keyboard the old function from the sym/aü button. so if u press this button u will open the window, with smilies and special symbols?

I wonder the same about my Norwegian phone...
When I click the Sym button, it happends the same as on the blue button ...
It should be smileys and stuff there like , :-( , , , :O etc...
Thanks!
slade87 you got permission to post my files from cm topics here
i will delete the links from my post and i will link to this posted i think this is more up to date them mine are
as of now i don't think this is possible but we can map new letters to buttons so for example old german layout was:
sym button + o would make an "ö"
now i did the following blue/sym button + o makes "ö"
but not with touch input but with the hardware keyboard. so the most frequent letters we can reasign to a combo of blue/sym button and work with that.
owain thanks I'll update this thread day by day and slowly merge your existing keyboards into this thread. I will upload new version to mediafire as well and keep your old links if thats ok with you.
the why im asking that is, in connectbot for example i must use > or < but i cant find these symbols on the keyboard, coz these were under the menu witch opend with sym/aö ;>
check first post i got it working with the se menu!

what you preffer?
the qwerty.kcm...? or the picture?
if you preffer the qwerty.kcm... please tell me how to get that for you...(im new in this android scene.. i preffer symbian s60 v5 modding)
i just need the keyboard becouz im my language(Portuguese from portugal) we have "Ç" and we use ´, `, ~ and ^ in some letters like "é"(is) in "Não"(this = no) and in "A" in some cases "à" or "á" and i need the < and > for my smiles :b
please check the first post and follow the instructions of the sonyerricon.zip (first link) you should have all your keys back.
okay with the sonyericsson.zip i got the symbols back on sym/äo but it seems instable with the sms/mms programm of cm6 3.2.1 coz i get forced closes Oo
did you reselect the language?
i don't know if it helps you but use xrecovery and download one of the other posted keyboard layouts, install it and then try it again. after i did this i had no more force closes. but in rare occassions the symbol menu did not work (touch did not respond) but it didnt force close i could still write my text just couldn't select an icon (and could get the menu away with pushing sym button again).
uey, i tried it with the french one, at the beginning no sym/aö symbole table, but than i hold the finger on the input and switch from standartinput to Androidinput, closed and do it again but now back to Standart input and it works. strange things are goin on here ;>
thnx for ur help and work
i am glad it worked!
I updated the link on the first post. this should work now without luzifers work around.

[Q] Swype not storing typed words.

I'm currently on Swype Version : 3.5.83.26294.26302.1499.GTI9100.
In this, Swype is unable to store typed words.
In the previous version, Swype recognized what I typed and stored it in it's dictionary. However, in this version, I need to physically select
each new word I type and add it to Swype's dictionary, if I want it to be stored.
Does anyone have any clue with regards to this?
Phone : Samsung Galaxy I9100
ROM : VillainROM 2.0
Android version : 2.3.4
Baseband : I9100XXKG1
I think it's designed that way now. Swype 3 supports typing more as well as Swyping, so for people that might prefer typing, they probably wouldn't want every word they type saved automatically.
Still in development though, so you could suggest that they make that an option.
i too am stuck up with this upgrade... i just love to swype... and now i've been trying anything and everything im getting on google to unistall/ remove traces of this upgraded swype so that i could install an older version... but it keeps on giving force close for swype process...
can anybody suggest a way to remove swype cleanly from S-II so that i could install the new variant...
Btw, if you type an unknown word, and want to add it to the swype dictionary, all you have to do is press the spacebar after the word, and ypu'll get an option stating "Add word to dictionary".
Pretty cool feature ^_^
Hi,
I have the same problem. I'm using DarkyROM XXKG6..
Swype always says if I typed a unkown that it was stored to the dictionary.. but it didnt.
Here are my steps:
1. I swyped the word "jo"
2. it writes "hi"
3. i press the swype button
4. it marks the word "hi"
5. I type manually "jo" and finished the entry with a blank
6. swype says "jo" was added to the dict
but on next time I want to write "jo" it writes "hi" - that really sucks for me
somebody can help me?

[Q] Coloros ROM GT-I9300. Chinese charcter removal

I have the above ROM installed on GT-I9300. However the chinese characters etc are a pain. I have language set to English but the characters are still there.
I have been looking through the files and unable to find what I have read previously on internet and various other searches.
I am unable to post in thread regarding ROM as not enough posts, so can anyone help me or point me in the general direction.
Thanks in advance
I'm not entirely sure of the ColorOS ROM, but since it's based off AOSP as most ROMS are, I'd reckon it has the same settings menu (correct me if I'm wrong)
Go to Settings > Language & Input > Android Keyboard / your keyboard (settings icon) > Input Languages >
Select your preferred language (in your case, you said English)
Hope this helped

Hi Gino.mee,
I had already done that but there was still Chinese characters on aps, in menus, welcome screen etc. The ROM was actually password locked which to be honest I didn't see much point in doing that unless there's something we ain't meant to see. Regardless the only thing in my opinion that lets it down is the Chinese in menus etc. I stumbled accross this tool by pure chance and it has been of great help. I can now decompile and either remove the strings etc or just replace with English by using Google translate.
To be honest I don't see the point in anyone uploading a ROM for people to use share etc when the system files and boot image have been locked by password. More so when the essence of freedom and choice are retricted which is what we all want in one way or another or we wouldn't be here. Anyway thanks for your reply and taking time to read my post. No doubt I shall likely encounter more issues but sod it, only way to learn about Android is to tackle it.
Cheers,
Gaz
