There's an app called "Phone Info" that will let you do it but it hasn't been on the play store in some time (you'd have to hunt around to find an APK online).
There's another called "4G Switch" which is $0.99 on the play store which several people have noted works on the S4. Looks like it's essentially the same app as Phone Info, with a few changes.
I haven't used either so can't comment on their functionality but worst case you could drop a buck and if the paid app doesn't work, just refund it.

Think you can enable some scripts by Terminal in certain ROMs like Hyperdrive

Samsung DIVE

Has anybody tried to activate Samsung Dive on their Note? I created the Samsung account but I don't see any options to activate the remote control settings on the note, even though it says in Samsung's site that the options will be enabled automatically when the Samsung account is created.

I got to the samsung site logged in, but then to add my phone, nothing happens.
It will not let me register my phone.

To be honest, the feature doesn't work very well even for non-AT&T versions. I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 wi-fi and I was never able to let DIVE find my tab at all. Another crapy buggy feature from Samsung.

That's what i meant, Thanks At&t...
I came from a windows phone, and microsoft has that feature enabled for all their phones just by going to windowsphone.com and signing in with your live id. and before that, on windows mobile, i had my phone setup with creeper and it got stolen and i wiped it remotely but before i wiped it, i sent it a couple texts telling the thief where he was and that if he didn't return it i was going to call the police. the next morning the phone was sitting on my desk...
I used that Windows phone feature to locate/spy on my kids iDevices have the similar functionality. Not sure why Google left this one out?
DIVE was left out of the i-717 because AT&T offers their own called Mobile Locate and surprise...they charge for it! It is an add-on to the phone insurance.

Really, no love Cerberus?
You can snap pictures from the website control panel with the phone's front camera and have them emailed to you, or record audio from the mic and send that.
You can make it so any SIM put in the phone that isn't the current SIM will only call a phone number you specify.
You can wipe whatever you want from remotely and track the exact location of your phone at all times.
It is AMAZING!

Cerberus is one of the first things I install on a new phone. If you are rooted you can install it into the rom and it will survive factory reset. It blows away anything else out there right now. You can record audio, video, have it call a number, take a picture, snap a screenshot. Remote lock / wipe. It is just amazing.

[REQ/INFO]Galaxy S3 Japan (SC-06D) root

Picked up my Japanese S3 today and looking to root it. I'm reading that using the I9300 is no go since it is a completely different model number. Specs for anyone interested:

If I can provide anything else let me know.

The Japanese version doesn't have NFC, only Japan's long-established equivalent.
Anyway, I love the phone, but I can't wait until some of the geniuses on here come up with an easy way to root it.

Negative. Just tried to scan my edy but no joy. My nexus S grabs it fine however. Cannot wait to dump this stupid docomo rom and get a vanilla one on. That or just go back to my Nexus S.
またSC-06DはNFCを搭載していないので、「Android Beam」を拡張したデータ転送機能「S Beam」も利用できない. Yep, no NFC.
SamMobile has a rom out for SC-06D. As soon as the DL finishes gonna give it a go since I tried the I9300 and it just black screens.
i seen that but i was pretty sure that was just the stock rom...which is really helpful if a bad rom is loaded and need to go back to stock...ive downloaded it too and keeping it to the side for emergencies....
The ability to root and throw CyanogenMod 9 on docomo's Galaxy S3 are the two most important factors in whether or not I will buy it in the next couple of months. Can you please keep us updated on your progress, wtfusernameistaken?

My honest opinion is that the phone sucks. No NFC, annoying uninstallable apps, battery gets quite warm, camera is meh, Kies is basically iTunes with a different layout. I went back to my nexus S and passed the S3 off to the wife. Tried to get a galaxy nexus but it would seem that it did so bad in Japan that they liquidated their entire stock 3 months ago. Guess I'll just have to wait for the next dev phone.
The rom on sammobile is in fact the stock rom, but good to have in case.
Your first sentence had me dying. Lol I guess that sums it up, though. I guess I'll start preparing to buy a One X, though I think I'm going to attempt to get the AT&T version and have it unlocked, as it seems that model is more liked than the international version. I don't even play Words with Friends, so Tegra 3, Schmegra 3 for all I care.
In my opinion this is a beast of a phone...nfc not there..it maybe just no unlocked..the screen is great..the 2gb is a major factor...the fact it'll be one if few phones to receive the jelly bean update..even the little tv tuner which I'm sure the statewide doesn't have..the massive support for it...the camera is great, even though some might choose a third party app...people are judging the phone after a few days of use...the real beauty and love affair comes after extended use...having all this potential and being a root and or custom Rom away from unleashing it is mouth watering...already my s3 out performs my s2 in every way...and it can only get better...every day I find or notice something about this phone that makes it more and more awesome...give it a chance and don't be so basis guys...

If you lack Japanese skills I would be hesitant to root. Some of the warnings that come up will not be in english. Not to mention that all the development on the root was done by Japanese and the "documentation" will be as well.
This is my first Android device (and my first post )
I found the amount of Samsung and Docomo apps really ridiculous.
I want to get CM9 onto the device, so I can have a completely clean slate with no remnants of all the shovelware. As I'm new, I don't know how yet, but I've found several guides and videos and such for doing it for other devices, even the other versions of the Galaxy S3. Unfortunately I haven't found too much specifically for the Docomo Japan version, so I'm a little hesitant to try anything just yet. Is there anything that makes the Docomo device different from other Galaxy S3's, anything I should look out for?
One thing to note for anyone else who bought it here in Japan at Docomo, by default they automatically sign you up for a ton of their crap, iChannel, BodyMo, etc., and each one costs monthly. They're very easy to forget about. If you go digging through the "my docomo" site, through the customer support stuff, eventually you'll find the options to cancel each of the stuff they signed you up for. They really do make it hard to get to.

PSA: Verizon now has remote "desktop" capability

I'm not sure how long this has been going on but I was on a call to customer service last night trying to get the WatchESPN app running properly on my phone and the "tier 2" technician asked if it would be okay to take control of my phone. I've been in the IT field quite some time and I knew he was asking to remote into my phone (ala pcAnywhere.)
I gave him permission and quickly got a text message saying vdm (Verizon desktop manager?) was trying to connect. I'm rooted with Dubbsy's 4.2.2 GPE ROM and I was nervous about a Verizon rep snooping around my phone (warranty concern.) I'm not sure if it was the ROM or the fact that I was in a bad cell area, but he was never able to connect. We never did get the app to run properly either.
Just giving people a heads up about Verizon's (new???) capability; I've never had anyone ask me in over three years with the company. Careful rooted users, if they see you've rooted they may make a notation (with or without telling you) in your account and when you bring your phone in for service--it may get declined.
Pretty scary stuff. At least they can't get in unattended (we hope?)

I did some research on this and, apparently, it's been around for about 18 months and you're both right:
Verizon Remote Diagnostics
Aetherpal teardown
Aetherpal can/does check for root access. There's two good things about this service. First, you can simply refuse the assistance from the customer support. Second, there's a terms of service you have to accept even if you gave permission for them to remote desktop. You can reject the ToS. I haven't had a TW ROM installed on my phone for a long time, so maybe someone else can post a screen of which .apk(s) they can freeze in TiBu.

OTA Kit Kat thread for non-rooted phones.

I created this thread for people who do not have their phones rooted.
I am downloading the OTA currently and can't wait to discuss the pros and cons about this update compared to Jelly Bean.
The OTA was indeed 4.4.2
I am loving the notification bar being all white. It will take more time to comment on any other features.
"Google Camera" is a must if you are on Kit Kat and you like bokeh effects (someone's face or a specific item that is in focus and everything else out of focus). The effect is more profound if the background items that are out of focus are far away.
I mention Google Camera because you have to have Kit Kat to install it.
Can you test FoxFi to make sure it works on the update?
Sent from my Galaxy Note 3
I have never used it before but I will download it when I get home and see if I can get my 3ds to connect through it...I also have a 10.1 tablet at home I will try it on as well.
I am on the share everything plan so hotspot is free for me...I have never used it though.
I went to Foxfi's website and they list kit Kat on the Note 3 as a workable device.
http://pdanet.co/help/devices.php
I really want to hear about battery life before making the plunge. If anyone can throw some stats up in a few days after a couple cycles I would greatly appreciate it :good:
I went to activate foxfi but in the end it wanted me to turn on mobile hotspot from settings....seeing how I am on a share everything plan I am able to have free mobile hotspot. Therefore I can't verify if foxfi works or not...the play store app lists that it does on the Note 3 and the foxfi website says that it does on the Note 3.
The foxfi app had me make a pin to unlock my phone...now even after uninstalling foxfi I can't remove the pin security. The option to choose none is shaded and I am unable to choose none. Uhg!!!

So now that Note 3 and other Verizon phones starting to get 4.4. Do you think we will see tap-n-pay Google Wallet ever? Or you think that will still be forever blocked on non-rooted/stock Verizon phones?
Are there new radios or is the signal strength any better in 4.4?
Verizon setup ISIS on my Note 3 at the time of my purchase. The first time I tried to use it, I didn't realize that I hadn't added the American Express Serve card (with the $25 free money added). The second time I tried to use it I couldn't get it to work...However, S-beam was off and now I keep it on. Both times above I gave up and paid with my card...so I am still waiting to try it for the first time.
As far as Google Wallet goes...I just downloaded the app from the Play Store. I will mess around with it after work to see how I can get it to work. Already though it tells me about the most recent purchases I have done with Google even the free ones.

There is a certain section on my way home that I always lose signal if I am talking to someone...it has been the same with the Incredible 2, galaxy S3, LG G2 and the Galaxy Note 3 before Kit Kat.. I will respond to your question after about a week of going home after work. I expect it to be the same though.

Well? After much research I was able to disable bloatware, get YouTube ad free and some more all without root. Honestly? This phone is good enough not to root really. I usually rooted to get a kernel to speed things up and get less lag, amazingly there's no need. Also for Xposed but I also don't see the need. So waiting for something that now I feel is not needed is ok. But having the itch to root will always exist. Lol

I have a question if i was to purchase a Samsiung galaxy s9+ from samsung themselves, will i be able to root the phone at that point.
I have been on iPhone for a long period of time because it is so easy to Jailbreak a phone once the program comes out, its just one click and done. I always recalled android phone goes through steps in order to be rooted, and i do mean really long steps, and the smallest mess up would brick the phone, i know now that the bricking the phone is a lot less likely. But it is still hard to root the phone..
Also back in the day, all android phones can be rooted except for Verizon Android phones. Now all carrier Samsung galaxy phones cant be or takes time to root. things have changed in the community i see.

Well, the main reason why I want to root is to find a bypass for the tethering. Example: On the iPhone there is a application called (Tetherme) it pretty much bypass the tethering provision so that the hotspot usage shows up as Phone usage not Hotspot usage.
I want to do that on the Samsung Galaxy s9+, I want to use the native tethering connectivity that is on the device and have it show up as phone usage not hotspot usage.
What I'm going to end up doing is selling my phone in order to purchase one directly from Samsung.
