[Q] S3 doesn't boot anymore - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I wanted to change my rom of my phone and so made a backup of everything and also saw that the internal partition was messed by custom rom.
I saw folders like: "0/" and 2 more.
My idea was to repartition with pit file, but I was messing with NAND Erase All, and now I stuck with flashing in Odin.
When I want to repartition it doesn't go further then: NAND Write Start!!
I did try to:
- Terminate the Samsung Kies Process
- Try Different USB ports
- Try Different versions of Odin

The 0 folder was probably from an install of 4.2.2, and you could (and should) have just deleted it manually, if you wanted to get rid of it. Using a pit file with the SIII is generally NOT recommended, and now you know why.
In the FAQ, you might be able to find a way to recover it, if you can boot at all, but if you are had bricked, which it sounds like you are from the description you gave, you will need JTAG or Samsung repair.
Using nand erase all is probably what killed your phone.

Thank you for your fast answer.
I'm contacting the Samsung Service Point near my town and also contacting some friends at local phone stores, So I hope they can do a JTAG repair for me

Problem is solved
I flashed onepackage firmware in odin with .pit file and my phone is working as charm again

When you say "one package"firmware, do you mean a lowship firmware?
Would be handy to know for future reference.....

That's what I was suspecting, I tend to use these in trouble, and it seems that using a .pit might only work with these, just an ongoing observation that I may be wrong about, but I certainly would try if I ever needed to use a .pit

Yep, although I'd have to be fairly desperate before I ticked that repartition box!
So many people seem to panic, follow the first advise they find and make it worse in the process. This one was very lucky.

My phone did work without any problems and after flashing a couple of new custom roms, the phone shutdown random and sometimes it reboots random.
I did swap the battery with an other one, but this didn't solve the issue.
I'm now downloading the Rescue Firmware and I will try this and hoping that this will solve my phone's issue.
I am also going to buy the Samsung Galaxy S4 monday, so I want to solve this problem with my phone so I can have it as second smartphone.

The problem was the eMMC chip The samsung galsxy s3 have the issue that the eMMC chip(storage chip) can go insane so you need a repair by Samsung. You can test this with an app called eMMC test tool or something for S3

after load "CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG1-v4.1-CWM4" in Odi3 v1.85
when i clicked start it says pass, but the last message in the box it says: Removed!!
then i got the yellow triangle, i tried to do the same step again and again, and sometimes load "KERNEL_I9100XXKG2_CL375027_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5"
i cant start my phone!!

my apologies
now i got this problem

Simple to remove yellow triangle: USB Jig
Second problem, try holding down Power + Vol Down + Home buttons together when the phone is off, until you see a verification popup saying if you want to continue to flashing a custom ROM. Then try reflashing your ROM or kernel.
well, in my country there is no USB jig unfortunately
second i got this problem in my second replay (look image)
there is no use when holding power+home+volume down or up
the same problem appear to me
thanks for your help
I doesn't matter if it's not in your country. Order one here:

Did you enable any of the checkboxes that were disabled when you started Odin?
Like "Repartition" or "Flash Bootloader" or any of those?
yes, all three was checked when i used PIT, PDA, PHONE, and CSC
There we are. The Galaxy S 2 does not need a pit file, you probably got a pit file for a Samsung Galaxy S.
<Warning information heard from other users>
In another big Android board is a discussion going on that flashing a pit file can fry the mainboard + battery as it will use wrong settings (the settings for the Galaxy S) and apply a too high voltage.
</Warning information heard from other users>
From my experience in that case even the jig does not work anymore (you could try it anyways) so you might either need to send it to Samsung or find somebody with a JTAG (won't help if the mainboard gets damaged).
@prodygee
i hope it doesnt take long time in delivery
ohh, dont tell me that the board is damaged
i didnt spent 24h yet!!!!

Nah, as I said, those are just reports from other users I couldn't verify (I'm not gonna flash a pit file just for the sake of testing!) so you should try the jig anyways, because it's not expensive and does the trick in many cases.
However if those user claims are correct not even a JTAG could help but let's just hope the best for the moment, there's no point in being scared beforehand.
I wish you luck and please tell us if the jig worked!
If you want to remove the yellow triangle and you don't have a jig it will be simple..
Flash Cf-Root
Flash stock kernel (cwm for cf root will remain)
Unzip the Cf root you falshed earlier until you get zImage and don't rename it
Open cwm
Choose flash kernel
Select the zImage you extracted and flash
After that there will be no yellow triangle after boot

my friend i cant go to download mode anymore
how much do you think it cost when the board is damage more than $200?
i will try warrant company, then try jig
I see.. Why don't you take it to damsung service center and make a story that you updated through kies then kies broke your device.. Atleast try the service center because it's free, but if all else fails you can try jtag
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
oh man, i just take it to warranty company, they told that they will try to update the software (i think it wont work) otherwise they will give a new one!!
Why are you flashing anything without not knowing what your doing?!

they will send the phone to Samsung!!

[How To] Recover from a soft brick GS2

Hi, I was trying to root my device with insecure kernel, and then my device hangs on galaxy i9100 boot screen,
so, I've tried to restore my stock kernel, but it didn't help...
finally I've tried to flash the jpkg2 stock rom from intratec thread, also the same...
i tried this
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
and my phone stoped at this
and with fully falied odion tests...
now I can enter the download mode.
but recovery mode is not working
Note: there was no Kies when I did this, after that I tried all the things before with kies installed, and with samsung_usb_driver, and still got no success.
Note: Odion recognize my device, download mode is fine.
any help would be apprecciated.
Quite clearly not a "How To", and what was wrong with your other thread?
plz help i9100 dead.
im trying here to make it more clearly
I did't find any help in my last thread, so I tried to be more specific here.
Taken from Intratech's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
........................
3. Start Odin
4. Click on the PDA button and browse to the .tar file that you extracted in step 1
If the package has more than one .tar archive then they will be labelled with PDA, Phone/Modem and CSC. Just put them in the corresponding section of Odin
5. DO NOT PUT .PIT FILE AND DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TICK REPARTITION.
Anyone ask about .pit file is a moron

First thing I notice when looking at your screenshot is that you have ticked re-partition.
Second thing I notice is that you have tried to flash a PIT file.
Maybe that's where you are going wrong??
I found this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18961761&postcount=9
this man was unable to flash his device " Odion Fail"
so one of the suggestions was to use another computer, and yeh!! it works for him.

What was wrong with the replies? You didn't find a magic fix to your problem, which in all honesty, was just you being stupid putting the wrong files into the Odin boxes. If you want a magic fix, send your phone to Samsung and pay for the fix they do.
If you want a normal fix, listen to the replies given in the other thread. Don't start spamming new topics everywhere with the same question just because you don't like the answer. Remember, you killed your phone and others are actually trying to help you fix it....

[Q] Help with bricked i9300

I was recently changing custom roms on my i9300 and think i formatted the wrong option. Now when I turn on my phone it gets as far as the start up screen, then goes off and just continues to repeat. I have trawled the web and tried a couple PIT and PDA's but no joy as of yet. I can boot it into download mode. Any help would be highly appreciated! Thank you.

ok downloading as we speak....
the PDA i downloaded did not come with a PIT in the zip. So i have just used to PDA on its own, and when i opened it come up in the comments "Leave CS...". The start option became available so i hit it and got "NAND write start..."
I then used a PIT i used previously and tried again, then got this...

Hey untick repartition then flash
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Did it help when flashed without re-partition checked?
Why do you need a PIT file? Where did you get it?
Repartitioning could be extremely dangerous.
try odin version 3.04 without the PIT file, if you get NAND write start just wait about 5-6 mins, if it stays where it is come here again.
IF you can, try rooting it with CF AUto root then flash a recovery. THen put a ROM on your external SD card and flash it via recovery and see if it boots.
Very sorry for the delay in reply. Its been bloody hectic!
I tried both of those suggestions Mr Mirage.
The first one i got the NAND write start, and the same on the second. It also got stuck on NAND write start
if you flashed a pit file, send it to service to replace the motherboard
