LTE - T-Mobile HTC One (M7)

Does anyone know of tmobiles LTE plans? I switched to tmobile under the impression my area already had LTE. I'm in Elgin,Illinois. If I go 10 minutes down the road to south Elgin they have lte. It seems a lot of my immediate surroundings do except Elgin. It's not a huge deal because the hspa+ is still getting 10-12 dl speeds. But just curious if anyone knows what cities they're currently working on or planning on in the future

I don't know how far each signal extends from the towers, but i can tell you that i live in WPB, FL. From my work Location in NPB i get no LTE signal. My co-workers on verizon and at&t do. A few blocks down the road, i notice there is a bridge i always seem to be waiting for. It get's LTE there. I also get it in my Home in LW - so south of WPB. all of these areas within 20 miles. Before getting the phone i checked the coverage map and it indicated 4GLTE available BOTH Home and Work locations.

Hm well I hope my area eventually gets it. It's not too big of a deal. Even with the hspa+ I'm getting between 10-15 downloads.

For Verizon Hero 994 up 596 down

I'd venture to say it depends a lot on where you are, since carriers are always building out their networks at different rates in different places.

No one is on the network. If no one was on T-Mobile's 3G network you would be seeing 6Megs regularly on a 7.2HSPA device. I can also post up some 14Mbps+ speed tests from T-Mobile but these speeds are impossible with the devices used to get them..
Depends on the area. For example, here in Aurora sprint gets me 300 down Ans 500 up, very bad. Tmobile is fastest wrh 1.5mbps down and 600up. In Georgia, it's opposite.

Hit 4085/1319 in Vegas today, T-Mobile
I live in Atlanta and this is my speed pretty much all over the city, even in the outskirts and suburban areas
Seeing all the DL speed in MB, I am assuming all your phones are rooted and lag fix installed? Thanks.
I fall right between Jax and Sav... I get overflow from both and as long as your ina good are TMO has the fastest serv... not the most reliable bc of all the switching from E to 3g..
But in this small town some 3g is better than no 3g but on bad weather days I have to switch to 2g only bc of all the flip flopping..

I live in Clearwater (Tampa Bay area) Florida and I can max out speeds on my G1 regularly. Tallahassee, on the other hand, has probably the worst data coverage I've ever seen for Tmo. It's a very rare thing to even see EDGE in Tallahassee.

PR 3G just went live too. Beggars can't be choosers.
Network speeds is a varying thing. Now if You go by what they tell you then Tmo is first with 21mbps, Sprint second with 10mbps, Then AT&T with 7.2mbps, and lastly Verizon with 1.8mbps or is 2.4mbps. Either way you'll never get those speeds well using Sprint I get close or more with their 3G depending on the day though.

[Q] why is 4G LTE so slow in illinois?

Are you in the middle in the LTE area or out on the fringe? I don't have LTE in my area but when traveling to KC with my Skyrocket, I was eager to see it in action. As soon as LTE kicked on in North KC I began speed tests. Most represent 7mb DL and 2-3MB Up. However when moving further into the city it took off to 26-40 DL and 7-10 UP. I now have the Note so we will see if its different.
Where in Illinois is this by the way? I will be traveling there frequently for work each month and will check it out.
Are you sure your in LTE area? Look at your phones 4G icon, does it say 4G or 4gLTE? The reason I ask is because your getting speeds of 3g/HSPA+ not LTE (obviously). Many think that when it says 4G that means they are on the LTE network, I myself fell for this trickery.

This, I had to explain this to my wife as we dont have 4g where I live yet but her phone had the 4g logo. Same goes for LTE, you may be in a 4g area however LTE is only in a handful of cities at the moment. Mainly big ones. So like if you live in Joliet or southern Illinois more than likely you dont have LTE.
Same here
Well im in the Chicago area, where I know for a fact it's LTE. And my phone status says im connected to the LTE network, but I too get slow speeds around 2-3 Down and 4-5 Up...my so called 4G from T-mobile was faster out here in Chicago. Dont get me wrong the highest ive seen from my AT&T LTE was 19 Down, but most of the time 2-3 Down
This article is from last September so a little old, I skimmed through it. Maybe it can help answer your question. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2393286,00.asp

Possibly moving to Sprint in the near future

Basically my company is changing the way they do phones and we now have to get out own phone plan which they will reimburse us for. I'm currently on AT&T with the HOX and the only other phone I would consider is the EVO 4G LTE. Actually I would prefer to have the EVO to be honest but I'm mainly worried about data speeds. I'm in Atlanta and the LTE speeds on AT&T here are absolutely insane, average around 35-40Mbps down on speedtest, and they reach way outside of the actual city, which is a huge plus for me. I actually live about 50 miles north of the city and still get a strong LTE connection. I see that Atlanta is on the first wave of LTE roll-outs for Sprint but I'm worried about the 3G speeds I may have to be on a lot of the time. Can anyone in the metro Atlanta area comment on the 3G speeds around here? I don't know anyone on Sprint personally. The other plus for me switching to Sprint is the unlimited data. The AT&T company plan I'm on now has unlimited but that is going away and I'll have to start a completely new plan if I stay on AT&T.

When I actually do switch from ATT LTE to HSPA/HSPA+ I still pull over 5Mbps down consistently, so I don't doubt that the 3G will be slower, just how much slower is the question. All the Sprint speed tests I see are always showing how bad it is but I don't know anyone in the Metro Atlanta area to give me actual results.
Sprint is horrible bad, make sure you get good info before jumping ship.

Try it out - Get an EVO LTE and return it within 14 days
I am pretty sure that right now you can get at EVO LTE directly from Sprint with free activation. With the return policy, you could return it for a full refund for the phone within 14 days and only pay the prorated service charge.
So I suggest you try it out and get a new / temporary phone number from Sprint and then return it. That will give you a true real world experience of using the phone and its service.
I am in the Philly area and am hoping to see LTE by the end of the year. The service is OK in the area, but horrible in my house. To deal with that I use Roam Control to force roaming (which uses Verizon's towers) while at my house -works like a charm!
Good luck.
Sprint has the best plans but by far the worst/slowest network. It's a trade off..

I happened to be in the Atlanta airport the other day waiting for a connecting flight. My data speeds on the Evo 4G LTE were fast for 3G. I know it's the airport and may not include other areas, but it seemed great. The previous week I was in Orlando and had no data speeds at all. I called Sprint and their towers were being upgraded. I felt like a hand was cut off.
In Massachusetts where I live the data speeds are good.
Oh and as for that upgrade fee/activation fee of $36. I have bought all my phones at Best Buy and never paid the fee. Might want to go there.

I'm in ATL, and I would say my 3G is good most of the time. I live and work just outside I-285, and I've always had good service. Is it the fastest, no. Have I been able to do everything I needed to do, pretty much yes. Now I do work in a Corp high rise, and its surrounded by two other high rise buildings, so the signal does fade in/out at times. Also, there is no using Sprint cell phones in the elevator based on my 10+ year experience with Sprint. When I travel around the city, I get good service (data/voice) and GPS reception. I only run into problems when I'm in or around large buildings. As far as call signal/quality, no issues. I get a few dropped calls, but those are in the same dead spots. I do have roaming on... Those dropped calls are few and far between.
I just came back from a 4 day trip to Chicago. Sprint phones have always held up well for me on vacations out of town. I never rent a GPS, as the phone does everything I need. I used the EVO LTE for car, public transportation, & walking navigation (GOOGLE NAV/MAPS by the way). It performed exceptionally... Like I said b/f, the signal may fade if you're around large buildings, but that didn't hinder my travels. FYI - the battery held up well. I used the camera, video, and GPS non-stop. I will have to say the camera has grown on me. That thing is quite impressive. The burst mode is a beast. Very impressive now that I know how to use it. I used to have a color saturation problem, but that's long gone. Guess the camera got better over time & me actually learning how to use helped too. My portable charger (Tylt Powerplant) I purchased from Sprint held up will and did a great job of keeping me juiced. I was out all day using the phone on Auto brightness. Sun glare/reflection didn't bother the EVO at all.
OP - Hope all this information helps.

I hope so as well.
They do not have 4G LTE in Detroit for AT&T yet, or at least have not officially announced it.
AT&T have actually been pretty good about updating the towers. they were, brace yourselves for a shock, AHEAD of schedule in Nashville.
Promised it by the end of summer, got it in May lol
Anyone here around Grosse Pointe? Any LTE there? How are the LTE speeds currently for those in Michigan, getting faster? Any sort of official confirmation from AT&T yet?
Thanks
So far, I have been in Downtown Detroit, and between that and Ferndale no luck with LTE, but I am hopefull.
This video uploaded back in March shows LTE panels sitting by a tower in Plymouth so when it does launch it will probably be all of metro Detroit that gets it. I'd expect it in all of Detroit metro very soon.

I noticed on my Note the 4G LTE symbol tonight. I looked all over the web for an announcement and AT&T's site says "end of 2012". I just finished chatting with tech support and they confirmed that Detroit and several other cities are now live on LTE. I laughingly mentioned the whole by the end of the year comment and the tech said "well September is almost the end of the year." AT&T usually takes "end of the year" comments to mean the beginning of the next year.
Anyway, LTE is live in Detroit!

at&t's incompetent LTE rollout sucking yer battery dry?

yeah, me too. In SLC, we've always had really good GSM and HSPA service from at&t, never matching the horror stories from the likes of chicago, sanfran, and NYC. However, they decided to pull a market-driven cluster-**** and only delivery a bare-minimum of market penetration so instead of a regular 4-5bars, I see usuall just 2. But that's not all. My phone has a supreme hard-on for the LTE and will choose the LTE tower 5 miles away over the one right next to me which results in some hysterisis and rapid HSPA/LTE changes. This may or may not be responsible for periodic loss of my data connection which I don't find about until hours after i missed that important email or text (google voice). awesome.
I put up with this for a couple weeks 'cause i'm used to the S&M relationship US mobile customers have with their wireless providers (post-paid, anyway) and finally called to ***** a little. turns out that while at&t would rather we all suffer at the hands of their inept decision making by removing any kind of switch from our devices, they will make manual adjustment for those who cry loud enough. If you really want LTE gone, you can ask for an 'inset lock to 2g/3g' which will prevent your device from seeking out LTE towers to connect to. I made mention of APN's and at least one rep indicated that this made that change, but I couldn't be sure this is an actual edit to the APN on your device.
LTE is nice for the 2% of the time I can actually use it, but the other 98% it sucks donkey ballz... at least the way at&t has done it in SLC.
hope this helps someone.

undoubtedly there are some people close enough to LTE towers that they aren't having quite the abysmal experience I am, and other people's positive experiences in other cities could indicate that at&t will eventually get it right here. I can only hope.
LTE here in Hawaii is awesome. Then again Hawaii is so small that a few towers can probably cover most parts of the island. Hopefully att can cover your area better.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33826576
LTE is working fine here in Central NJ. The issue with your battery isn't AT&T's rollout of LTE, it's LTE itself. The simple fact is, it's not as power efficient as HSPA (yet) and phone manufacturers haven't upped the battery specs to compensate.
Now, what AT&T IS at fault for is not giving their LTE customers an LTE/HSPA toggle.

I wish that were the case in SLC. the problem is that LTE is not available everywhere in the coverage area, and when it is, it is frequently at much lower signal strength so it's quite apparent that at&t did not roll out LTE to all of their HSPA towers in the area. With phones preferring LTE, they are connecting to towers that are frequently farther away than the closest HSPA tower and thus requiring more power. For example, both my home and work give me 4-5bars of HSPA, but only 2bars of LTE. Some parts of the city give no LTE at all. Its currently an incomplete roll out.

yeah, me too.
