4G LTE in Detroit! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I keep getting intermittent LTE signals in Detroit. I wonder if AT&T is finally releasing it for Detroit?
Screenshot of LTE signal.
I also did a speed test with HSPA+ and 4G LTE connections.

Hate to say it, but I hope your area's LTE speed goes up. See my LTE speed test results (In Toronto)

I hope so as well.
They do not have 4G LTE in Detroit for AT&T yet, or at least have not officially announced it.

AT&T have actually been pretty good about updating the towers. they were, brace yourselves for a shock, AHEAD of schedule in Nashville.
Promised it by the end of summer, got it in May lol

Anyone here around Grosse Pointe? Any LTE there? How are the LTE speeds currently for those in Michigan, getting faster? Any sort of official confirmation from AT&T yet?
Thanks

So far, I have been in Downtown Detroit, and between that and Ferndale no luck with LTE, but I am hopefull.

This video uploaded back in March shows LTE panels sitting by a tower in Plymouth so when it does launch it will probably be all of metro Detroit that gets it. I'd expect it in all of Detroit metro very soon.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=WVhhA2xQfSU

has anyone seen anymore panels popping up ?

Just got some LTE 4G Love in Ferndale! it's about 8:30. turned off my WiFi cause it was being wonky and a 4G symbol showed up from the old H or H+

Most of the ATT Detroit LTE system goes live tonight.

sweet.. you work for ATT or have some inside knowlage? right now i am getting a lot of 4G shutting off, if i turn on airplane mode on and then off it goes back to 4g

I noticed on my Note the 4G LTE symbol tonight. I looked all over the web for an announcement and AT&T's site says "end of 2012". I just finished chatting with tech support and they confirmed that Detroit and several other cities are now live on LTE. I laughingly mentioned the whole by the end of the year comment and the tech said "well September is almost the end of the year." AT&T usually takes "end of the year" comments to mean the beginning of the next year.
Anyway, LTE is live in Detroit!

Soon traverse city and the U.P. Because of the collage.

The UP lucky they even get 3G right now, I don't think they're getting LTE anytime soon.same with Travers

AT&T's LTE service is live and kicking!
Just tested several times using the Speedtest.net app and got the average speed of over 30 Mbps! Nice~

Are you in the middle in the LTE area or out on the fringe? I don't have LTE in my area but when traveling to KC with my Skyrocket, I was eager to see it in action. As soon as LTE kicked on in North KC I began speed tests. Most represent 7mb DL and 2-3MB Up. However when moving further into the city it took off to 26-40 DL and 7-10 UP. I now have the Note so we will see if its different.
Where in Illinois is this by the way? I will be traveling there frequently for work each month and will check it out.
Are you sure your in LTE area? Look at your phones 4G icon, does it say 4G or 4gLTE? The reason I ask is because your getting speeds of 3g/HSPA+ not LTE (obviously). Many think that when it says 4G that means they are on the LTE network, I myself fell for this trickery.

This, I had to explain this to my wife as we dont have 4g where I live yet but her phone had the 4g logo. Same goes for LTE, you may be in a 4g area however LTE is only in a handful of cities at the moment. Mainly big ones. So like if you live in Joliet or southern Illinois more than likely you dont have LTE.
Same here
Well im in the Chicago area, where I know for a fact it's LTE. And my phone status says im connected to the LTE network, but I too get slow speeds around 2-3 Down and 4-5 Up...my so called 4G from T-mobile was faster out here in Chicago. Dont get me wrong the highest ive seen from my AT&T LTE was 19 Down, but most of the time 2-3 Down
This article is from last September so a little old, I skimmed through it. Maybe it can help answer your question. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2393286,00.asp

I'm in the northern suburbs of Chicago and I get about the same slowness all the other IL people have reported.
Here's two tests taken at my parent's house, where I had 3/5 bars of LTE and a third on their comcast just to make sure it wasn't the host I was connecting to:
Fastest I've ever seen was on a major highway (my wife was driving just north of the city limits where I had 24Mbps or so down.

What's your decided with out 4g LTE coverages

I'm currently eligibility for upgrade
Oh ya finally after two year O EVO. I wish to get this wonderful EVO 4g LTE but no coverage LTE
So now I don't want to go down from 4g Wimax to 3g hmmmmm coz I live in San Francisco. We don't have sprint LTE this year. I think my decided to wait at list until my upgrade is expire.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
Wimax sucked anyways, Im in STL and it was one of the first in the country, and it was GREAT the first couple months.... then it became worse than 3g.
Its expected that the San Francisco area will have LTE within the next 6 months as it, parts of New York, Florida, and a couple other states are listed for Round 2 of the LTE rollout, which is expected to be completed before the end of 2012. Sprint's LTE network is currently being installed in the Los Angeles area by Alcatel Lucent.
The 4g was never an issue with me. I've had 4g since almost day 1. The only time I use it is for downloading large files. I can probably count on all my fingers and toes how many times that has happened. My 3g speeds are good; usually around 1-1.2 mb/s, and that is usually plenty fast.
Or I use wifi when available. Until they figure out a way to keep it from killing your battery, I probably won't use it very often.
If their work continues the way it is and on schedule I should have LTE by the end of the year..But personally I dont mind if I have to wait..Im in my truck 10 hours a day with a verizon 3G/4G LTE Hot Spot for work for my laptop and wifi needs.
Pre-ordered and waiting for release.
Phones to awesome to not get. Lte or no lte. In due time we shall have lte

We never had wimax in Reno, so the 4g on my Evo 4g was pretty useless to me. With Sprint who knows if we will see lte before my new Evo 4g lte is up for upgrade.
When I got my og evo on release day the nice folks at the Sprint store said we would get 4g by the end of the year. So I am pretty skeptical whenever I here we will get something from Sprint.
I use my connection at home for my phone. My job takes me all over the state, so 3g is what I get most of the time for gps navigation. If LTE will be as fast as they say, I might just use it for internet at home. I live in Kansas City with a 4g tower 1/4 mile away. I get full bars 4g currently.

never did use 4g much even though i had a tower around the corner. had to keep the phone plugged in or else batt would die. 4g tethering worked well when i had no internet, but dropped alot. Returned to 3g on my tethering occasions.
4g uses up too much battery to leave on and expect a signal around town, when the towers were rare.
hopefully i can leave LTE on and be accustomed to/get used to using instead of 3g.

I'm in the same boat, I used Wimax maybe once a month, just because if I actually had to download a large file, that's all I could do. The battery would be dead within an hour, hour and a half tops. The battery life with the lte chip being integrated is supposed to be phenomenal compared to what we we used to.
Luckily I live in one of the first wave cities, so I expect LTE to be available in some areas already as towers are already up in some areas once the phone comes out if not by the following month once they officially go live. I honestly just like most never really used 4g on my evos however the way it was implemented was flawed by default. radio on a different chip and not enough coverage so constant losing signal and swiching left battery life to be desirable. I expect with LTE it'll be different once the ball gets rolling. The radio is on the same dye as the soc so better battery by default. Sprint will have better LTE coverage than wimax so again that will help with battery life as you won't have to keep switching between the two. If you read the manual unlike verizon sprint has a toggle to disable LTE and only use evdo. I'm sure this will help people who don't live in LTE markets as well as those of us who want to get a little extra juice out of it. Based on the reviews of the AT&T One X though, battery life even with LTE on should still be pretty good.
I live in Miami and the LTE is very spotty, I don't have it at home; only used it to download big files anyways so I'm not worried about it. In the end it's a premium fee for a monster smartphone, very worth it. I would be really happy to get LTE, though, since my wifi at home is total crap :/ and it's not going to be as much of a battery hog as it was on the OG evo.

Most of you guys don't care about 4g.
But that's not a true, unless your smart phone using only in and out calls.
If using internet and WiFi tether you need a 4g to browser speed downloading, gaming etc... I'm not talking in your f*** home or work place only. You know how crappy is sprint 3g or tell me you are ambitious for new smart phone instead of what can make it a difference?

There's the key there - for you. Many people will be ecstatic to have a phone with a bigger, more beautiful screen, more responsiveness, a way better camera, stock ICS, Sense 4.0 (maybe), better WiFi speeds (n capabilities), NFC capabilities, Google Wallet, the ability to take pictures while shooting movies, a nicer kickstand, a thinner profile (and lighter), better sound quality, a dedicated camera button, and better battery life (due to stock ICS, and efficient processor).
If none of those things are worth anything to you, I'd say you're in the minority here. I'll enjoy the heck out of this phone until LTE and HD voice arrive. Have fun with your phone.

I'm in the Austin, TX market and already Waco (part of the Austin market for Sprint purposes) has 4G LTE working...people posting 21Meg download speeds already. They are supposed to have the rest of the Austin market done by July (don't remember where I read it, but it makes sense).
Clear rolled out the WiMax 4G, but SPRINT is rolling this out, and they know they have to get it right because they are in stiff competition with Verizon and AT&T. Houston and Dallas are other Texas markets that will be in first wave, though I'm not sure if they are already up and running. I got my pre-order in today and I'm eager to get my hands on it.
And while many people do use the 4G, if you're in a building all day and not out on the roads, you probably didn't get much signal anyhow. With LTE, in-building signal is supposed to be much better, so when you're not able to get on WiFi, it will be nice. Can't wait!
Where are you finding this info? Let me know if you find stuff about the austin rollout. gonna be hard to give up full signal wimax at work for too long...

Got a bad feeling about Sprint's LTE frequency and our new EVOs

So we all know Sprint's rolling out LTE on 1900 MHZ, or close to it.
I had a Photon last summmer and their awful WiMax service (at around 2400-2500 MHZ). I couldn't get it inside and it had a hard time following me in a moving car.
I know have a corporate device, a Droid 4 on VZW. Their LTE network is immaculate in Atlanta, GA. Inside, outside, you name it. In my home, I get 2-3 bars 3G on Sprint (EVOLTE) and 3-4 bars VZW LTE.
I have a sneaking suspicion when they flip the switch in Atlanta, their LTE coverage will pale in comparison. Here's hopin' I'm wrong.
(And of course, when Sprint gets their 800 MHZ old iDEN frequencies fired up for LTE, our shiny new EVOs won't connect - they lack the radio).
Thoughts welcome.
I guess I actually had the opposite experience here in Austin, TX.
When I go inside big retail stores (ie, Target, Costco, Sams, etc) my 3G experience was miserable but my WiMax was perfect. Had the same experience at home as well. This was with my OG Evo.
My 3G experience with the EVO LTE has been great. Much better service and faster speeds. Time will tell what LTE brings to the table.
I doubt you will have your evo when lte is on 800 MHz. That's like 3 years from now.
i will take 40 gigs a month of ok 3g/lte vs limited crazy fast data that i burn through in a week and then worry about overages for the next 3 weeks
I have never used the WiMax on my OG(well once on vacation and the battery went dead in 30 min). It isnt offered in my area. I don't think I will ever use my LTE on my LTE. It won't be offered in my area. I will still have a sweet phone and unlimited data.

LTE are to be in all areas that sprint is current serving up 3g you will get it
The 1900 Mhz LTE won't be as penetrating as Verizon's into buildings, but it will be about 25-30% better than WiMax for that.
With regards to WiMax in a car, the protocol for WiMax was not smooth from a transition standpoint going from tower to tower, the different protocols for LTE won't have that same problem.
We will see how it all shakes out, don't know if there is a benefit to being pessimistic though.

nothing officially yet....likely still testing in your location...dont be surprised if you can't connect to LTE in those same locations in near future as they go back to blocking them....
unless they stop that practice and start allowing devices to connect to the already tested locations...
Update guys: After leaving an area around a corporate store, the LTE disabled. I guess it was just enabled around a certain area, as I don't get it by my house! :'(
Hope they enable it soon

Thanks, I was just curious on the speeds. Doesn't look all that fast especially with no one on the network. I actually miss wimax a LITTLE bit. It was just nice to have as an option if I wanted it. Gonna tough it out till LTE is up. I wish Nextel would just shut off, instead have to wait another year plus will have to buy new hardware for 800Mhz band.
Really you will have to buy new hardware in a year?
I wish I knew that!! I thought this EVO was future-proof
*falls over face-forward*
Its not a bad thing really. 800mhz LTE wasnt approved yet so they couldnt build it into the EVO LTE. If Lightsquared was approve we would all be sitting on some pretty fast LTE speeds rite now.
Is there an LTE "Air Rave" ? maybe the store was using that, causing my LTE limited radius Also it might explain why it's so slow compared to the speeds reported in live Dallas LTE
Also do you think sprint will let me upgrade sooner if the 800mhz LTE launches within two years? I bought this phone to be future proof with Sprint's "latest" network, only to read in this thread that the current-gen LTE will be replaced by an even newer/faster/better/stronger 800mhz LTE in a couple years.
Dont worry. It won't be replaced. They're just adding a band and future phones will have connectivity to 1900 & 800 bands. AFAIK

Posting from my new EVO near Overland Park KS ... LTE is working and working well! Can anyone confirm if it has been launched everywhere today or is it just a network test or something ?
Thanks

LTE

Does anyone know of tmobiles LTE plans? I switched to tmobile under the impression my area already had LTE. I'm in Elgin,Illinois. If I go 10 minutes down the road to south Elgin they have lte. It seems a lot of my immediate surroundings do except Elgin. It's not a huge deal because the hspa+ is still getting 10-12 dl speeds. But just curious if anyone knows what cities they're currently working on or planning on in the future

I don't know how far each signal extends from the towers, but i can tell you that i live in WPB, FL. From my work Location in NPB i get no LTE signal. My co-workers on verizon and at&t do. A few blocks down the road, i notice there is a bridge i always seem to be waiting for. It get's LTE there. I also get it in my Home in LW - so south of WPB. all of these areas within 20 miles. Before getting the phone i checked the coverage map and it indicated 4GLTE available BOTH Home and Work locations.

Hm well I hope my area eventually gets it. It's not too big of a deal. Even with the hspa+ I'm getting between 10-15 downloads.
