[Q] [UPDATE] My LTE works great, is it launched nationally? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Posting from my new EVO near Overland Park KS ... LTE is working and working well! Can anyone confirm if it has been launched everywhere today or is it just a network test or something ?
Thanks

LOL you're damn near the headquarter's campus. Not surprised.
Sprint probably has it up for the HQ area.

nothing officially yet....likely still testing in your location...dont be surprised if you can't connect to LTE in those same locations in near future as they go back to blocking them....
unless they stop that practice and start allowing devices to connect to the already tested locations...

Update guys: After leaving an area around a corporate store, the LTE disabled. I guess it was just enabled around a certain area, as I don't get it by my house! :'(
Hope they enable it soon

I live north of the river and nothing yet. Nothing downtown either nor at Kauffman Stadium. Lucky!

Thanks, I was just curious on the speeds. Doesn't look all that fast especially with no one on the network. I actually miss wimax a LITTLE bit. It was just nice to have as an option if I wanted it. Gonna tough it out till LTE is up. I wish Nextel would just shut off, instead have to wait another year plus will have to buy new hardware for 800Mhz band.

Really you will have to buy new hardware in a year?
I wish I knew that!! I thought this EVO was future-proof
*falls over face-forward*

Its not a bad thing really. 800mhz LTE wasnt approved yet so they couldnt build it into the EVO LTE. If Lightsquared was approve we would all be sitting on some pretty fast LTE speeds rite now.

Is there an LTE "Air Rave" ? maybe the store was using that, causing my LTE limited radius Also it might explain why it's so slow compared to the speeds reported in live Dallas LTE
Also do you think sprint will let me upgrade sooner if the 800mhz LTE launches within two years? I bought this phone to be future proof with Sprint's "latest" network, only to read in this thread that the current-gen LTE will be replaced by an even newer/faster/better/stronger 800mhz LTE in a couple years.

Dont worry. It won't be replaced. They're just adding a band and future phones will have connectivity to 1900 & 800 bands. AFAIK

LTE live some areas here in north Texas. LTE is as fast as my WiFi. Check out how bad the 3G network is! Is un useable at times.
Can't wait till it's everywhere!

No, sorry
It just says "4G" instead of "3G" so it's pretty easy to tell if you're on LTE

I was down in olathe Kansas earlier and 4g was coming in and out. So spastic though I couldn't even run a speed test.
Nothing out east where I'm at yet or in the prairie village area. Unfortunately..

I am right there with ya. I don't really like sprint's coverage and yes, within the last few weeks, it has been even worse than I remember in the past and the 4g has been almost useless in the NYC areas as I live in northern NJ. I have an at&t account on my SGSII and their coverage is great. Bottom line is, I may be picking this bad boy up when it comes out!!

I hear ya. I left AT&T for the EvO4G and stayed bc I get a nice discount & wanted the E3D. My friend has the iPhone4 and we both did a speed test earlier...He was pulling 1.2mbps down while I was struggling to hit 800kbps. Then I was down on Jerome Ave in the BX where I had full bars of 4G and only getting 2.0mbps down. WTF?!?
If I give this phone back and use the money to cancel...I have no clue where I'll go. Between lackluster phones on other carriers and tier plains...It's getting out of hand!
*EDIT* Did I mention the iPhone4 doesn't even have HSPA+. Yea...it gets worse. Ridiculous!
lol fml... i gave up my unlimited data plan that ive had for 4 years on att to jump ship to spring SPECIFICALLY for this phone, then they do this. sprints service blows and now im going to be stuck with them for a while. if another good non sprint phone comes out i may just bite the bullet and pay the early cancellation.
just go now before your 30 days are up.
att would probably love to have you back.
eww with at&t prices..not even their DSL is good. i had to cut a tree for good signal..switched to time warner and i have had sprint for a longgg time like 9 years.
I don't know how your guys data sucks so bad I get far better speeds than anything ATT puts out. I also have a far cheaper unlimited plan than anything ATT can offer. My last speed tests at home had 2.1mbps on 3g an 10mbps down in 4G.
I've had ATT service before, ill never have it again. Their customer service, prices, and average local coverage just make them laughable to me. If you go that route good luck, because around my parts unlimited data doesn't exist and I'm not about to pay crazy overages. I easily use between 7 and 10 gb a month with out tethering.
With the dependency on data for these phones increasing any plan that limits your data is crazy.

Strange, it says VGA front camera wheres the Sprint version says 1.3MP as we all knew. Typo..? Anyway, nice to see the 850/1900 bands are present. Minor Rogers branding on the back but not too bad...

Not long back I know there was a company that Sprint had a deal with on using there towers for more coverage. But Verizon Bought that company and didnt give sprint the same deal.

I was told that in my city "san diego" we were gonna have lte this year, but without making it official because its not going to be in the whole city so people would complain. But lte is coming. Are they serious? Clearwire again?
Also, WiMax was supposed to begin rolling out mid-2010 or whenever the hell it was. 2 years later there's no stable WiMax coverage except in large cities.
So if LTE starts rolling out mid-2013, chances are they'll get to all large cities 2 years later in mid-2015. God knows how many years after that it will take to cover all their previous 3G locations.
I'm pretty sure we'll see 5G by 2015-2020.

Got a bad feeling about Sprint's LTE frequency and our new EVOs

So we all know Sprint's rolling out LTE on 1900 MHZ, or close to it.
I had a Photon last summmer and their awful WiMax service (at around 2400-2500 MHZ). I couldn't get it inside and it had a hard time following me in a moving car.
I know have a corporate device, a Droid 4 on VZW. Their LTE network is immaculate in Atlanta, GA. Inside, outside, you name it. In my home, I get 2-3 bars 3G on Sprint (EVOLTE) and 3-4 bars VZW LTE.
I have a sneaking suspicion when they flip the switch in Atlanta, their LTE coverage will pale in comparison. Here's hopin' I'm wrong.
(And of course, when Sprint gets their 800 MHZ old iDEN frequencies fired up for LTE, our shiny new EVOs won't connect - they lack the radio).
Thoughts welcome.
I guess I actually had the opposite experience here in Austin, TX.
When I go inside big retail stores (ie, Target, Costco, Sams, etc) my 3G experience was miserable but my WiMax was perfect. Had the same experience at home as well. This was with my OG Evo.
My 3G experience with the EVO LTE has been great. Much better service and faster speeds. Time will tell what LTE brings to the table.
I doubt you will have your evo when lte is on 800 MHz. That's like 3 years from now.
i will take 40 gigs a month of ok 3g/lte vs limited crazy fast data that i burn through in a week and then worry about overages for the next 3 weeks
I have never used the WiMax on my OG(well once on vacation and the battery went dead in 30 min). It isnt offered in my area. I don't think I will ever use my LTE on my LTE. It won't be offered in my area. I will still have a sweet phone and unlimited data.

LTE are to be in all areas that sprint is current serving up 3g you will get it
The 1900 Mhz LTE won't be as penetrating as Verizon's into buildings, but it will be about 25-30% better than WiMax for that.
With regards to WiMax in a car, the protocol for WiMax was not smooth from a transition standpoint going from tower to tower, the different protocols for LTE won't have that same problem.
We will see how it all shakes out, don't know if there is a benefit to being pessimistic though.

I hope so as well.
They do not have 4G LTE in Detroit for AT&T yet, or at least have not officially announced it.
AT&T have actually been pretty good about updating the towers. they were, brace yourselves for a shock, AHEAD of schedule in Nashville.
Promised it by the end of summer, got it in May lol
Anyone here around Grosse Pointe? Any LTE there? How are the LTE speeds currently for those in Michigan, getting faster? Any sort of official confirmation from AT&T yet?
Thanks
So far, I have been in Downtown Detroit, and between that and Ferndale no luck with LTE, but I am hopefull.
This video uploaded back in March shows LTE panels sitting by a tower in Plymouth so when it does launch it will probably be all of metro Detroit that gets it. I'd expect it in all of Detroit metro very soon.

I noticed on my Note the 4G LTE symbol tonight. I looked all over the web for an announcement and AT&T's site says "end of 2012". I just finished chatting with tech support and they confirmed that Detroit and several other cities are now live on LTE. I laughingly mentioned the whole by the end of the year comment and the tech said "well September is almost the end of the year." AT&T usually takes "end of the year" comments to mean the beginning of the next year.
Anyway, LTE is live in Detroit!

Sprint Aquires 100% of Clear...2.5 ghz spectrum LTE coming

Hmmmm this is headed in the right direction.
Sprint today announced that it will purchase Clearwire outright for $2.97 per share, or roughly $2.2 billion. Although the deal still has to pass through regulatory approval, Sprint calls the agreement "definitive" and has outlined its plans for the carrier: as expected, it will use Clearwire's 2.5 GHz spectrum to augment its 4G LTE network. Clearwire CEO and President Erik Prusch said that the move was "the best path forward" for his company.

SIgh.. I sure hope Sprint kicks it into gear soon.
My 3G speeds are slower than back when I was on dial-up over a decade ago. I mean it is abysmal.

Sprint is doing two deployments on their network currently. There is Network Vision, which improves 3G coverage, and speed. This can improve coverage by about 4x. Part of what they are doing is moving the radio to the top of the tower which greatly improves RF loss that would happen via cable run to the top.
Sprint is also deploying 4G LTE in a number of markets. I've noticed it here in Minneapolis, MN but it is being deployed here from the outside in. There are a couple towers coming up every day or so. In Minneapolis, LTE has been announced as on its way but they have been turning up towers prior to officially announcing that it is here. From what I hear, Chicago is rockin' fast LTE & Network Vision has really helped.
With the money & knowledge from Softbank, Sprint's network is going to be improving dramatically this year. I can't wait for LTE to hit my home & work areas so I can get the fast speeds.

I would expect the next devices to be 1900 and 800, I doubt we'll see 2.5 for a bit. Considering this deal still has to go through and likely the 2.5 wouldn't be put to use right away.
Excellent. Should be a good investemtn

Your info us a lil off there as its not 2 phased like you say where one phase is 3g improvement and one is LTE...Network Vision includes both 3G and 4G deployment at same time. Yes they not always both turned on at same time but they mist deff are deployed and worked on basically together.

2500Mhz LTE won't work on the EVO LTE right? I'm in Oklahoma City, and we have unadvertised 4G (Sprint doesn't list it, but its available). That said, OKC is on absolutely NO DEPLOYMENT LIST for LTE. Ardmore, OK made the list in the most recent press release, but thats near the Texas border.

Up there by memorial right? I got it up there a little bit.
But I checked the radios in the evo and I don't think it'll be able to use that frequency. Hopefully OKC will get it soon though.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, while the 2500mhz will add to the overall LTE spectrum, isn't it all but useless unless you are outside?
I thought this was the good part about the 800mhz. And why Verizon's LTE works so well indoors, as it's the 700mhz I think.

For most part yes but those ppl outside will connect to it and in turn free up spectrum typically used by everyone else thus improving experience for everyone...

Depends on range. They are supposingly going with mini cells to help with 2.5 range.

Still waiting for picocells to pick up any kind of relative steam... They are not cheap to deploy overall widely...

Its going to take time but sprint is doing a great job with LTE. Many spots in Minnesota with LTE and as soon as 3 weeks ago there was no LTE in Minnesota. So good job keep it up sprint.

Should read the comments there. Some idiots think they'll have to carry the antenna around with them.
