So I got a new evo yesterday, my original broke after a drop and I had s off on it since the first week or so, and never had issues. I ran CM10/10.1 since it was first available, sadly this new one came with the 2.09 hboot so after a few hours I finally got it to s-off. So now any ROM I flash....ATM it's Paranoid Android 4.3 there is constant lag at times and the same with CM10.1. So is this a new issue with updated EVOs or is there something deeper, I plan to try a couple of sense roms as well and see if that is a different experience. Hopefully I can get this sorted because I find sense to be appalling in its design.

It's probably not related to the s-off process...my phone doesn't seem to like the latest CM kernel for some reason, so maybe you're in the same boat. I tried a variety of different aosp roms recently and experienced some lag as well, among other things. I've been running jamie's unofficial pac build (which has his custom kernel baked in) for about a week and everything is working great, highly recommend:

EDIT: Of course, a few hours after I posted this I started experiencing significant lag with this rom as well. Not sure what the deal is, my phone will just lock up for 10 seconds or more and become unresponsive to any input. Then the FCs start. Back to sense I suppose...

So I am a proud owner of the Thunderbolt now and I am loving this phone a lot. I’ve moved over from the Sprint EVO. I was rooted since day 1 with that phone. I ran CM7… and while my overall phone and speed test were faster than the stock phones in the house… I still seemed to have constant issues… be it from the phone itself or the network.
Of course I can’t leave well enough alone with this phone. I wanted to put Gingerbread on it (it still has 2.2 WTF?!) and I wanted to put Sense 2.1/3.0 on it. So I successfully rooted (WOW that was easy) and installed clockwork recovery. I decided on SHIFTS3NS3 V1.4F as it seems to have exactly what I want (I kind of don’t want to go back to CM7, everyone claims they have no signal issues but I am sure they do, especially when my Sense loaded Evo could get 4G where CM7 could/would not).
So BEFORE I rooted or did anything, I did several speed test throughout my home and work. Smooth scaling and great speeds. After rooting and installing Shifts3ns3, I started running test. My speeds dropped… and now I was seeing “skipping” with the speed test (gets to a point, stops, drops, stutters going back up, drops again, etc). So I get to work this morning and the speed test is doing the same here. I did a nandroid backup of my stock set up last night before I installed the new ROM… restored it this morning… and ran the test at work again… lo and behold I am getting faster speeds and no stuttering.
So perhaps a radio issue? I noticed there are Froyo radios and GB radios (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048128)... When installing the GB ROM does it update the radios? Was I running Froyo radios on a GB rom and is that bad? Should I try upgrading to the latest GB radios and run test again? Does any of this Rom switching/radio switching affect the simultaneous voice and data ability (that’s actually huge for me and the main reason I got this phone)?
I appreciate any help. I’ve been a XDA board reader with EVO since 11-2010… so while everything is familiar to me… this all seems different with the Thunderbolt.
First off I would upgrade to the latest radio. Although these are *beta* radios, they work much better than the stock radios.
Second, after installing the latest radio try, Bamf 2.4.1. Just like you I like staying close to stock, but like extra elements with my ROM. To me Gingeritis is just too far from stock, plus the Carousel home screen is a pain in the ass. Bamf 2.4.1 is just stock with sense 3.0 weather and lockscreen, and without the location icon in the status bar.
Also, my speedtest on Bamf 2.4.1 was a straight shot. No drop offs what so ever.
And, of course this is all just my opinion but I strongly believe that Bamf 2.4.1 is what you want.

Quick question, since I am on page 10 and not seeing this answer... what is the difference between ADR and non ADR? He mentioned on page one that its "Adrynalyne. Its what I made according to my own wants"... but I am not sure what that means LOL. Only reason I am concerned is that there still seems to be a sense 3.0 lock screen bug that someone said is a known bug and to flash the non ADR version.

Gingeritis doesn't have a carousel home screen. Gingeritis3D does.

The ADR version uses elements of sense 3.0 while the normal version is basically stock. You want the adr version.

i came from the evo too so welcome. IMO the reason people are having soo many data issues is not from the radios but from the 2.3.5 build that was meant for the nexus s phone. 2.3.4 doesn't have those kinds of problems. just my 2 cents!

Low volume in call? Geeze... I wish I could turn it down! Gingeritis3D is blaring loud. I never use it more than half way up.
Thanks everyone for the responses!
I guess I am just scared to do anything to mess up my phone. I trouble shot and tinkered with the Evo so much so often.
Right now the phone works. And works great. I just wanna help the battery life some... and remove Verizons bloatware.
It seems the Thunderbolt handles radios differently depending on the build? With the Evo I would just flash a radio and I could bounce around from sense to AOSP, froyo to GB, and it wouldnt matter. The thunderbolt has MR2 radios... Froyo radios... GB radios. So my last question here is... right now I am on stock. If I go to a GB based rom, do I flash the radio first? And if I go back to the stock rom, do I flash the MR2 radios first (my phone updated to 1.70.605.0 while it was being set up in the store) then flash back to stock? Basically do the radios persist throughout the builds and I flash them according to what ROM I am using?
Thanks again.

The latest radio's available will work with all ROM's out right now (Including the latest Froyo ROM's).
If I remember correctly you should be okay to just flash the ROM (No need to flash the new radio as MR2 works with both GB and Froyo).
The Radio's persist through everything except a RUU or PG05IMG.zip flash (Depending on what you are flashing of course).

OK so it IS like the Evo then. The radio thread isnt stating that they are Froyo/GB radios... but where the radios got pulled FROM. I was totally reading it wrong.
Thank you for the clarification!
Didn't want to clam up the CM9 thread with this so am asking here. I am currently running rooted stock GB on my Photon and since hearing about official ICS probably being dropped for Photon, I'm seriously considering unlocking and flashing CM9.
However, since I use this phone for business I need to know exactly what is working currently and what is not. I have not been able to find a working/non-working listing for the current build in Joker's thread and have read through the "fixes" thread.
I know 4g is not working (obviously). I also have read that camcorder and possibly mms is not working. Is this true? Saw there may be a version with mms working? How about bluetooth, gps, camera, etc? Any wifi or wireless tether issues? Is there anything with limited functionality that has no real fix yet?
**EDIT...Have given CM9 a shot and with some testing had to switch to something else.
Camera is sketchy, kinda depends on who you ask. Everything else pretty much works. Even if you find something funky it'll probably get fixed within a couple of days. Gotta love the speed of the updates.
I've run into more trouble with apps not being ICS-compliant than with the ROM itself, which is what prevents me from getting too excited.
I haven't heard anything about the official ICS being dropped though; most of that comes from people in panic mode after the EOL leak. Motorola could still support the Photon for a long while after Sprint's EOL date. EOL basically means no new ones to be sold, not that it never existed. I saw Sprint selling Heroes a couple of months ago and they were yanked years ago.

Thing that concerned me about the EOL release is Sprint stating that the only updates that will be released for those devices are critical updates. Sprint will still have to test and approve ICS once Moto is done with it which may not happen now.
As for CM9, does camcorder work for you? Are you on the latest build?
I switched back to stock so I can't test it but the still camera worked fine for me this morning. I was running 0.4.2.1.
Anyone know where I can get the pudding unlocker? Google doesn't turn up anything for me and links are down.
Edit...I used the smaller one. Noticed it is unlocked with that so ignore my request.
Well I'm on MIUI 2.3.16, which is based on Joker's CM9, and my video camera is extremely laggy. It also crashes when I try to hit the stop record button. Also, flash player in the browser is messed up. For the most part though everything works. You can get MMS working by using GoSMSPro, or setting up APNs.
Wifi, and wireless tether works perfectly fine for me. Hope this helps.
Edit, The3Bill just put up a fix for MMS.
Check out shabbypenguin's site. I think he has all of those files hosted somewhere. I tried his page but I don't think it's up anymore

I've had my thunderbolt for over a year now and its been rooted for most of that time. Up until recently everything been working fine. I was running CM7, but for the past few weeks I haven't been able to get data when connected to 4G. The 4G icon shows up but is grayed out, but when I toggle airplane mode it turns blue but still does not work. My first though was that my radios were wrong so I flashed a bunch of different radios but none of those worked. Next I tried flashing a bunch of different roms (all AOSP because I hate sense), no help. I finally figured it was my SIM card so I got a replacement from verizon.
So none of this worked and on a whim I decided to flash a sense based rom, and 4G worked!
Is this a common problem with thunderbolts or does anybody have a fix for this? I really want to switch back to CM7 (running MIUI with no MMS right now).
EDIT: I forgot to mention, for some reason 4G data works on the MIUI rom I'm currently running. So for now I'm opting for speed over MMS.
For anyone interested my radios are currently:
LTE: 0.01.79.0331w_1
radio: 1.49.00.0406w_1

Hello,
I have had my tbolt rooted for over a year as well, I am a flashaholic and never had a data problem, maybe u need to switch ur kernel, I'm on ziggys kernel and I've been on since it released and never had a problem, I never really changed my radio, hope this helps.

There are 4G issues with AOSP, you get slower data speeds and for some reason my coverage recording maps don't record 4G properly when using AOSP. Sense works fine.

I did switch to imosyens lean kernel on a few roms after things started acting up. I don't think my kernel is the issue though, seeing as I was running CM7 for so long with no problems.

Odd that it worked for so long and randomly crapped out. You wouldn't happen to know of any fix or work around to this problem, would you? I really just can't stand the notification menu and icons that come with sense.

I'm new to rooting and running custom roms. Has anyone tried any of the latest version of CyanogenMod 10 for the evo lte. Is it stable is it fully functioning. Sorry for the noobness but we all start somewhere. Thanks
I have been running it all day, I don't know the differences from the previous nightlies, probably the same tiny bugs. I haven't played around with it too much.
I have always been curious as to what the differences are between the MANY JB ROMS we have here. They all have the same problems...
I've been using codefire cm10 JB ROM now for around 3 weeks it seems to me that everything is working fine so far. you should try it out I haven't had any problems yet... I'm going to stick with it

Ive been using the CMX CM10 JELLYBEAN ROM as my daily driver for the last six weeks and it is great. Personally i think the bugs are totally minor. Nothing you cant deal with really. I liked the CodefireX tweaks. I just update the Rom using the GooManager and for some reason they changed it from NIGHTLY to EXPERIMENTAL for whatever reason. Also noticed the CMX tweak are gone from the update? dont know why. Anyone here know? otherwise the ROM is really fast and stable enough.
Am I alone here? It looks great and is speedy as hell. But after I leave the house and I'm not on wifi any longer all the problems start popping up. Terrible signal (even confirmed using OpenSignal), only hold 3G half the time and NEVER get a 4G connection in the places I always get one on a ICS ROM. Also, camera is worthless. And MMS doesn't work almost always.
I really appreciate all the work everyone puts into it. I couldn't do any of the stuff these people are doing. I've tried CM10 and ParanoidAndroid and I can't wait until they hit a stable/primetime state. Just not there yet.
But if it's just me please somebody chime in! I have done PRL and profile updates on stock ROM before flashing so I don't believe it's that. Stock ROM and Mean ROM both give me great signal/data and 4G.
right now I'm on codefire jb release date 26 plus I flashed the duocoreAOSPmod my phone is fast, and also I used the 3g uncap codefire tweak. I'm not having any 3g speed problems.
the reason why I'm still on #26 is because when I flashed the 04 nightly the WiFi will not work it just says error. So hopefully they fix that then I will update. If not I really would hate to discard codefire cause I like it a lot.

I feel like I have tried several different ROMs and combinations of software and have yet to find anything stable to my liking. So I wanted to ask all of you what you're using and/or recommend. I am currently running CM11 M5 with crpalmer's CM11 kernel 5.7.6 with the 2.04 hboot and radio. So far the results are the best I've seen, but I still have have data drops that require rebooting and the occasional wifi disconnections (mostly while the device is asleep). The most annoying is the periodic reboots that I have to do in order to restore data, but at least it seems less often with previous setups I've run.
So I'm curious to see what your daily driver is.. I prefer CM, but I'm open to just about anything that's stable. I'm seriously debating downgrading my device, but with the KitKat update supposedly right around the corner, I'm trying to hold on in hopes of some more (stable) development.
Thanks!
