Please help! I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 (SCH-I545) rooted on VRUAME7.
I did something really stupid and tried to flash the Google Wallet Mod and it ended up bricking my phone. It would show the Samsung and unlocked Custom logo and then the screen would go blank with the blue light on permanently. For some reason, I couldn't get into recovery mode (ClockWorkMod). Only Download mode worked.
So, I tried following the instructions here: http://droidviews.com/2013/how-to-unbrick-your-bricked-samsung-galaxy-s4-gt-i9500-gt-i9505/ to get my phone back.
I repartitioned with the pit file in those instructions and tried to flash a MDK build, which didn't do anything. Then I wised up and tried the ME7 build. It also didn't work. The phone would still only show the screen with the unlocked Custom logo and then it would turn off. I could still only get into Download mode.
I also tried the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301259, which got me a little further at one point, where I could hear the boot up sound and it would get stuck on the white screen with the Verizon logo. After doing that once and rebooting it is back to just showing the unlocked Custom logo and turning off again.
Is there anything else I can try? I've searched and searched the forums and I'm coming up empty now.

Soft brick can ALWAYS be fixed by reflashing stock ROM. Find the stock ROM and put it on ur device (in CW recovery is mount USB-OGT while plugged into ur computer). Flash it after you WIPE the device. Then reboot. Thumbs up if this helped!
Also a tip is DONT FUDGE AROUND WITH THE DEVICE. If its bricked, the device can be recovered. But if you do random attempts it will cause other problems. That's from experience. Hard bricked my friends Galaxy S cause I kept on flashing **** on it. Root on!

Ok, here it goes: I have tried searching for the answer, and haven't quite found the answer that pertains to my situation. I recently flashed Obsidian on my Vibrant and decided to revert back to my backed up stock rom using ClockworkMod Recovery app. My phone then failed to boot past the Vibrant/Samsung screen. I have tried to get into recovery, but the phone only stays on Vibrant/Samsung screen and fails to go to recovery screen. No matter what method is tried to get to recovery, the phone gets stuck on the Vibrant/Samsung screen and will not boot past that or go to recovery. This being said, my question is: When my phone goes back to T-Mobile for warranty, will they be able to tell if its rooted if it doesn't boot and can't get to recovery? Or will they just do their thing and reflash the stock rom thus wiping any evidence?

Another person trying to scam a company..
That being said, It is a 50/50 chance of them knowing, and I hope they do know.
Why dont you odin back to stock and not claim a warranty exchange for something that is your own fault

Go to the Vibrant android development section and look for the vibrant bible.
once there read up on using ODIN.
USE IT.
Than put down the phone and never flash a rom again until you learn to read directions.
oh and by the way, how bout you NOT try and scam ppl cuz you cant follow simple directions. going to tmobile and filing a claim is BS. YOU are the one responsible for your phone no longer working. Ppl wonder why prices on data plans and other costs go up. They have to keep paying out the ass on other crap that could easily have been avoided had the end user had any durn sense

Can people ever take responsibility for their acts? The warnings posted on all the ROM threads are there for a reason. If you cannot bring your phone back to live with the information available online including these forums just suck it up, be a man.
I know I should take resposibilty for my own actions, but when a phone is supposed to be able to boot into recovery by using the 3-button method, but that method isn't funtioning because Samsung disabled it (like many other people have experienced) how do I take responsibilty for equipment that doesn't do what its supposed to? When the phone doesn't boot into recovery like it is supposed to, how do I fix my own actions. My brick is partly my fault and I know that, but partly a faulty phone.

So if J16 was supposed to fix that, why was it that even T-Mobile couldn't get it to boot into recovery?

Ok, first off, you bricked it because JK2 and JI6 or any 2.1 version run on different kernels, and clockwork doesnt install kernels (and this is why you can't go into recovery, not because the phone is faulty.). I did this before and ODIN will fix it right up. Use it.
It will only take about an hour to get everything back the way you want rather than waiting a week or so. No need to file a warranty complaint, this is your fault but very easy to fix.

Because YOU modified your phone, and messed up!
Odin will fix one of your problems. The other can't be fixed...
recovery won't do you any good because it needs the kernel to load.
you need download mode.
with the phone completely off and not connected to the computer, press and hold the vol + and vol - buttons at the same time. then plug in the usb and you'll boot into download mod.
You then go about flashing w/ odin to get your phone working again.
I have the Korean SK Samsung Galaxy Note. I tried to root it tonight using the galaxy note II dev kit (was that my first mistake?) I picked the model number closest to mine and did everything as recommended. I got up to the Odin tool and followed those directions to a tee, but after that it just got stuck on the Samsung logo and wouldn't go anywhere after I closed the Odin tool.
I got the bright idea to hold the power button and the top volume buttton to hard reset. Now it is stuck on a drained battery screen with the loading logo just frozen in the middle of it.
Help?

what happens when you pull battery?
can you get download mode?
ALWAYS check your "Super Everything Thread".... it's in the General Forum. post#3 deals with Korean model
flashing wrong firmware usually results in brick. if you can get download mode, from what I understand, your OK.
go to super everything / rooting / read / read / read............I thought d/l mode was vol down and power. could be wrong.
follow instructions and let us know what happens. nothing worse than offering advice and not knowing if you helped.
Thanks for the advice. I did finally get into download mode but I can't really figure out what to do now. I think I just want to go back to stock. I tried doing it through KIES but that isn't working. If I use Odin, will it work?

don't let one bad experience ruin it.
not many are willing to follow the advice. I know your new here. the advice is always read, read, read. feel as confident as you can in what you are doing. it took me the better part of a month to work up the courage to flash anything.
first thing.............get rid of the Note 2 file that you flashed. don't need to go through that again.
read super everything again and again if needed. get all the files you need together. walk through the processes in your head.
you should have Odin opened up when you go into D/L mode. wait for phone to register "com #?"
make sure you run Odin as "administrator"
go slow..........its a marathon not a sprint. whats you hurry.
check Youtube for a tutorial......make sure everything is for YOUR model

Odin is the best and easiest way to return to stock, but you still have the same process to go through
Okay I tried to flash stock with Odin through download mode and everything seemed to work perfectly. It boots past the Samsung logo but NOW it gets stuck on the spinning T (I think it's a Korean thing) that is floating in space. Ugh, this is so frustrating.
I just want to get my phone back to normal at this point...

the T may be a Korean thing??? couldn't tell you for sure.
I may have gotten stuck at a similar point with my model.
I think 1 time I ran the Odin again and maybe another time I pulled battery and rebooted. but you have movement. we have had some files lately that just take longer to completely boot up.
patience
How long are you waiting for the spinning T to go away? It may take several minutes. Give it some time. And you are trying to install the stock SHV-E160 ROM and not something close?

I'm trying to install the 160S rom from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1899200
I've left the spinning T for about 20 minutes. SIt flashed okay in Odin but nothing is moving forward. I keep reading about the Tegrak rom and Clockwork recovery but I don't really know what those are. Should I try to read up more on that and try to that?
I'm not sure how that would work. I never saw or installed a rooted ROM using odin. I would think you would need a custom recovery first since all versions of superuser require it. Just guessing. So you have the E160S version? Try to use google to find a 100% stock (non rooted) ROM to install using Odin. I tried to search myself and found many links but was unable to read because of the different language. Maybe you will do better.
Also what version of odin did you use? Try to use the latest version 3.07
Root and recovery have nothing to do with each other.
You can be rooted with stock recovery,
Or have a custom recovery without root.
I've released a pre-rooted custom Rom .tar for use from going from bones stock to that Rom.
Not saying this isn't broken, just that it's doable.

Hey guys,
I thought I would come here because I have tried all other options besides going to Bestbuy. My Samsung Galaxy S4 model SCH-I545 is currently without an operating system for it seems in the Odin process to flash it back to stock it failed and now I am in quite the bind. I cannot access the stock recovery mode or boot normally. Whenever I boot my phone I get the message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". I'm kinda stuck at this point help would be much appreciated
I can still access Odin mode and the computer still recognizes my phone so that is a plus
Thanks,

Dog,
What did you do to fix it, specifically?
All, I am having an issue very similar to this, I'm on MJ7 and have the developers unlocked phone. Even thought the bootloader is unlocked the root functionality is not enabled. In trying to achieve root through flashing a file (it failed because of signiture validation error it went into a boot mode where it sounds like it is booting normally but there is no visual indicators and the LED light is a pulsing blue color (don't know what that means). Does anyone know where i can find an original factory firmware file and instructions to flash it successfully? I noticed there are several people in these forums who say they have had luck with a couple of the restore methods yet none have succeeded for me. If this is a developers edition why is the bootloader unlocked but not rooted? Thanks for any help you might be.

I have a gs4 was on me7 running hyperdrive 9.1. Hyperdrive had been bugging me to update for months, so I finally did. I had installed 9.1 on my stock rom slot so I wiped and tried to update to rls 15 of hyperdrive. I got a black screen with a pulsing blue led. so I wiped and tried to go to rls 14 same thing. I wiped and created a new rom slot installed rls 15 and got stuck in boot loop. Rls 14 did the same thing here. Then I tried to restore my stock rooted back up and just call it a day, but it didn't work everytime I tried it said failed. So then I went to Odin and tried to flash the stock firmware, being very cautious to pick the verizon one every time. I would say I have downloaded three separate firmware files with no luck even tried a one click stock restore with no luck. Please if you have any thoughts. I just need my phone to work.

I can get into download mode and have tried ODIN with a few factory roms and odin finishes fine I just cant get past the Samsung splash screen. WHen I try to go into recovery it just hangs with the blue text on the top left saying its booting recovery. Is there any other things I can try?
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
PS I have tried many ideas in this forum already so was looking for any other ideas or something i might of missed.

Do you remember what build number are you on? MDK, ME7, ML1 Or MJ7? You can odin back accordingly and it should restore everything to factory image.

That is the bad part I do not remember. The ones I have tried that are the factory ones do not work with the same issues.
Hi all, I recently rooted my Verizon galaxy s4 i545vrufng6 4.4.2 and ever since I did I have had some issues. The way I did it was by flashing the ng5 kernel and using towelroot then reflashing ng6. After I did that my wifi was stuck on the dull green light but I read on a forum on how to fix that by going into the system and deleting one of the wifi files. After I did that everything worked fine for a few days! Then I went out of state and when I got on the airplane my phone was put on airplane mode, by the time I landed and took off airplane mode wifi wouldn't work at all. I tried to do the same thing I did earlier but it didn't work. Matter of fact, i cannot even find that file anymore Wifi will no longer even go dull green, i can hit it as many times as I want and it will stay in the off position. I thought if I flashed a custom rom it would restart the wifi, so I looked up how to install cyanogenmod and followed the YouTube vid from wwjoshdew (30minute). I didn't get through the whole thing because when my phone restarted it had an unlocked padlock at the bottom of the Samsung start up logo and when it went into recovery mode it came up with a yellow triangle saying that system software is not authorized by Verizon wireless. I can boot it up normally or I can go into download mode but I can't access recovery mode meaning I cannot do a factory reset. I took it to Verizon and they said they couldn't help me cuz I void the warranty. If anyone could please help me get my phone back to normal I would appreciate it so much! Thank you!

Sooooo.... you soft bricked your phone by flashing an unsupported ROM on your particular firmware. Cynanogenmod or ANY OTHER pure AOSP Rom is not compatible with firmwares later than MDK. Don't do that again.
You need to flash one of these http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735172 in Odin. Instructions are in the thread. You are going to be downgrading back to NC5 (the firmware version before NG6). This may fix your wifi issues as well.
