Guys/gals,
I have a Galaxy S4 from Verizon and an issue. It will not boot into the normal OS and also I cannot boot recovery. I can get into download mode and have tried ODIN with a few factory roms and odin finishes fine I just cant get past the Samsung splash screen. WHen I try to go into recovery it just hangs with the blue text on the top left saying its booting recovery. Is there any other things I can try?
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
PS I have tried many ideas in this forum already so was looking for any other ideas or something i might of missed.

Do you remember what build number are you on? MDK, ME7, ML1 Or MJ7? You can odin back accordingly and it should restore everything to factory image.

That is the bad part I do not remember. The ones I have tried that are the factory ones do not work with the same issues.

Please help! I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 (SCH-I545) rooted on VRUAME7.
I did something really stupid and tried to flash the Google Wallet Mod and it ended up bricking my phone. It would show the Samsung and unlocked Custom logo and then the screen would go blank with the blue light on permanently. For some reason, I couldn't get into recovery mode (ClockWorkMod). Only Download mode worked.
So, I tried following the instructions here: http://droidviews.com/2013/how-to-unbrick-your-bricked-samsung-galaxy-s4-gt-i9500-gt-i9505/ to get my phone back.
I repartitioned with the pit file in those instructions and tried to flash a MDK build, which didn't do anything. Then I wised up and tried the ME7 build. It also didn't work. The phone would still only show the screen with the unlocked Custom logo and then it would turn off. I could still only get into Download mode.
I also tried the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301259, which got me a little further at one point, where I could hear the boot up sound and it would get stuck on the white screen with the Verizon logo. After doing that once and rebooting it is back to just showing the unlocked Custom logo and turning off again.
Is there anything else I can try? I've searched and searched the forums and I'm coming up empty now.

Soft brick can ALWAYS be fixed by reflashing stock ROM. Find the stock ROM and put it on ur device (in CW recovery is mount USB-OGT while plugged into ur computer). Flash it after you WIPE the device. Then reboot. Thumbs up if this helped!
Also a tip is DONT FUDGE AROUND WITH THE DEVICE. If its bricked, the device can be recovered. But if you do random attempts it will cause other problems. That's from experience. Hard bricked my friends Galaxy S cause I kept on flashing **** on it. Root on!

Just make sure you Odin ME7 stock ..you cant go to the older firmware..
Use odin to flash stock me7 and you should be good to go.

Hey guys,
I thought I would come here because I have tried all other options besides going to Bestbuy. My Samsung Galaxy S4 model SCH-I545 is currently without an operating system for it seems in the Odin process to flash it back to stock it failed and now I am in quite the bind. I cannot access the stock recovery mode or boot normally. Whenever I boot my phone I get the message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". I'm kinda stuck at this point help would be much appreciated
I can still access Odin mode and the computer still recognizes my phone so that is a plus
Thanks,

Dog,
What did you do to fix it, specifically?
All, I am having an issue very similar to this, I'm on MJ7 and have the developers unlocked phone. Even thought the bootloader is unlocked the root functionality is not enabled. In trying to achieve root through flashing a file (it failed because of signiture validation error it went into a boot mode where it sounds like it is booting normally but there is no visual indicators and the LED light is a pulsing blue color (don't know what that means). Does anyone know where i can find an original factory firmware file and instructions to flash it successfully? I noticed there are several people in these forums who say they have had luck with a couple of the restore methods yet none have succeeded for me. If this is a developers edition why is the bootloader unlocked but not rooted? Thanks for any help you might be.

I used the one from Kies
still not working
****s ****ed.
I have a gs4 was on me7 running hyperdrive 9.1. Hyperdrive had been bugging me to update for months, so I finally did. I had installed 9.1 on my stock rom slot so I wiped and tried to update to rls 15 of hyperdrive. I got a black screen with a pulsing blue led. so I wiped and tried to go to rls 14 same thing. I wiped and created a new rom slot installed rls 15 and got stuck in boot loop. Rls 14 did the same thing here. Then I tried to restore my stock rooted back up and just call it a day, but it didn't work everytime I tried it said failed. So then I went to Odin and tried to flash the stock firmware, being very cautious to pick the verizon one every time. I would say I have downloaded three separate firmware files with no luck even tried a one click stock restore with no luck. Please if you have any thoughts. I just need my phone to work.

Thanks for the reply but I have already solved the problem.
It wasn't that I couldn't follow directions. My **** was soft bricked.
After hours (26 to be exact) of scouring the forums, I finally found a combo that worked.
For any one else having this problem I posted steps to fix it here
Hey all,
I was trying to revert my ATT i717 edition back to stock when I mistakenly installed a kernel as a boot loader via ODIN..dont ask dumb mistake on my part...Now my Note shows the Samsung logo, goes black, shows a different Samsung logo and doesn't go any further. I can boot to recovery mode and ODIN mode but that's it. I think all I need is a stock boot loader and everything will be OK. I have no problem wiping this thing completely as theres nothing I want to save on it. I haven't been able to find a working stock boot loader anywhere that I could use ODIN to install. Any help would be great. If I can't find a homegrown solution, I may just end up shipping this off to the mobiletechvideos crew, but would rather save some money if I can. Thanks in advance.
-Geoff
Since everyone else is viewing and not responding, have you tried this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1506330
Btw, it doesn't sound like it hard bricked it if it's still going into recovery. Just Odin the stock kernel, system, and recovery and it see what happens.

Thanks for the advice! I had found that thread earlier, however none of the links work, nor have they been reposted. If anyone here has them in some dark region of their hard drive, I'd love to have a working link.
Thanks.

If you were on anything other than MDK then you should not have installed TWRP. Installing a custom recovery that is not compatible with your phone is the quickest way to make a 600 dollar paperweight. What is your baseband version or what version of Android were you on?

Yes, it is resolved. I booted into download mode, and it must have unlocked, or unfroze it from recovery mode. Thanks for all your help.
So been on HD since the beginning and had no issues until today.
Installed rls21 per the OP and everything ran pretty smooth. Was unable to get HD Tweaks to load
and it would cause settings to FC then touchwiz home would FC.
I went into recovery, cleared cache and rebooted. Still had the same issues. Re-installed the rom from
the beginning and still same problem.
Downloaded new copies of rls21 and the UI and installed. Now my phone wont boot past the samsung logo with the lock.
I tried to odin back to stock and it is still stuck at the logo.
I can get into recovery and the download screen but cant get anything to boot after that.
It will let me run aroma and install any build but wont boot the OS.
Seems I've lost root as well.
I'm on an MDK build. Please someone help me figure this out...
Update: Tried re-partitioning and loading stock MDK firmware and also tried to load stock recovery via Odin.
Now I can still get into download mode, phone wont boot past samsung screen and when i try to enter recovery I have the yellow triangle and a statement about unauthorized software...

I flashed pretty much every file I could in odin to restore mdk. Failed to notice all the file sizes on every site I downloaded
from were 8MB or smaller. Am downloading the full 1.83GB MDK system file now to see if that will work.

You probably got the MD5 file I have done that before.
So I was unable to Odin back to MDK. Think I lost root and my boot image. I was able to Odin to the newest build fnk1 which is MDF.
Guess I'm gonna figure out this whole safe strap game now :*(

I know the feeling, personally with MDK I prefer lollipop, but I use S Translator all the time now (Dating a Chinese girl) and the optical reader and I have found 0 apps that could compare for free so HD is my DD for now until we get an S4 Lollipop rom with those included.
