Is there any way to save backups for cross device? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I currently have the Gnex and I've spent soooooo much time setting it up to be exactly how I want it to be. I was just wondering if there was any way to save my cache and export it to another device or if cache backups are device specific

I know Mybackup (Find it in Play Store) lets you back up Apps, contacts, music, pics, videos, call logs, bookmarks, text messages, pic messages, system settings, calendar, play lists and a few other things too. I had to buy the pro version of Mybackup to let me save the files on my old phone then install Mybackup on new one and restore files. I dont know of a free way off top of my head but the $2-3 it costs for pro version was well worth the time it saved for me!
Hope this helps!

Free version works great when just flashing roms on the same device. I had been using free version for about a year on same device with no issues. It was just recently I bought the pro version (so I could transfer between devices) after I saw what a great job the free version did! Plus pro version has a part that will let you freeze apps kind of like Titanium backup does, it works great to kill OTA updates on your device lol.

Google Backup - Clear

Have a question about the google backup option, where it automatically downloads and restores apps. Is there a way to clear out the apps it has in memory, and then back up fresh? I used it a while back, and now I have a nice clean set up the way I want, but when I turned it on it starts downloading all the old apps I no longer wanted.
Any ideas how to reset or clear out that list?
Thanks!

I've never found a way to clear google's list of apps on their side. However, if you skip google setup during the initial setup of the phone, and then setup your account later, it will not automatically download your apps.
Cool. I didn't know that.
You should try titanium backup. The 5 is worth it. After I install a new Rom I skip all the initial setup and just restore with Ti backup and reboot and everything is perfect

It is actually what I use. Just have been curious about the Google Backup and restore service for a bit now. Thanks for the reply
Curiously though, no-one knows how to do this.. lol

+1 - I found Titanium Backup to be one of the greatest apps. I had a ton of issues with Google trying to re-download all of my apps and created a mess of things. I just keep a backup copy of Titanium Backup on my sd card (the .apk) so I don't even have to open the market to download it. Restore apps after rebooting into my new rom and done! No More issues.
if u want to get rid of a app when u turn Google backup on you got to let it install and them uninstall it and sync
If you go to the web based version of the Android market you can edit what apps are associated with what phone. I actually have an old Droid that I mainly use as an alarm clock in the docking station and I just download apps from the online market and then I have the option of which phone I want to send it to.

WhatyU guys use for nonroot Backup app? MyBackup?

Seems the inly one that backs up data also.
MyBackup has a non root version now! It is in the market.
I love My Backup Root...intending on buying pro soon.
I don't get the purpose of these backup applications unless you have like 80 apps. I can remember all of the apps I normally use. Google backs everything else up don't they?
I use it mainly for backing up the data from within a program. Things like high scores on games.

I have like 80 apps, plus I need all my data.
So with mybackup I could back up my game save data and transfer it to the 3d?

u sure mybackup will restore an app's data on a non-root phone? not just the app apk? i have seen several places that restore the app's data wont work.
i actually only have the paradise island saved game that i am really interested in....
As far as I know, in order for an app to restore your apk data, it needs root access to write to the system.

bye bye Paradise Island..... i will miss my vacation get-away
That is right, a phone has to have Root access and then MyBackup can support the Data of the applications. But, it will also work on non-root phones.
Also, it can backup and restore system data like SMS, MMS, bookmarks, music playlists, etc. for NON-ROOT phone and BETWEEN ALL ROMS, which is something no other application on the market can do.
MyBackup Root is a free application for root users that will give you the ability to restore ALL your apps at once, without having to click through each one by one, like titianium free makes you do.
U can always unzip the apk in the titanium folder and install the app
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
But that is a pain, using MyBackup it will do everything for you.
mybackup root only lets you back up and restore to the same model phone
I have tried to restore app n data to my 3d from my 4g. Only app gets installed; data does not. SMS and contacts restore fine.

Install all apps at once

Hi!
Any way of having my Galaxy Nexus automatically start downloading my favorite apps from Market when I format my phone.
I have millions of apps and it takes always so much time to download them again. For example If I change rom its annoying to start installing all the needed apps when I t could easily just load the basic software automatically.
Somehow last time my phone did download BeautifulWidgets without my "permission" from the market and installed it.
So any possibilities to make this happen?

That is google backup feature. It will download all your preveously purchased app only.
I would rather suggest to buy Titanium Backup Pro. Damn good for app backup and restore in batch mode. Good filtering . You can even set the location of your app .
You need root permission to run it. But trust me it will be worth purchase...
You can always use MyBackup Root...is free is efficient and can also backup sms mms system settings etc

Seconded, I am a frequent flasher running a nightly ROM, so I live by Titanium Backup. The paid version allows for an express, confirmation free batch restore. Just set it, leave it, then once it's finished, reboot it.

I agree, Titanium Backup is the finest of its league. It'll cost you some money, but its totally worth it.
If you just want the apps use this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1314443
It also has a ton of other features, but it makes a flashable backup of all your apps then just flash the zip file and all your apps are back. It's much quicker than titanium but i use titanium for data. Best of all its free...
Hello and sorry for taking so much to answer but my Firefox lost all my tabs and I didn't remember this after that.
Okkay so thanks for the answer but those are backup software :/
I know how to backup but I would like it to work different.
Like for instance now I just got back to stock because wanted to see if I can update to 4.0.3 or 4.0.4 but sadly wasn't able.
So now I am probably gonna go to AOKP and after that is installed I need to once again install that big list of apps and its really slow downloading the one at a time from the market.
So I would like to have some way that I have list of programs I want and a software would get the apps from the market for me so I don't really need to do anything.

What you're wanting is much more time consuming and less efficient than the suggestions posted here. Your data wouldn't be restored, so you would have to setup the apps again anyway. You'd have to wait for the market to try to download all of those apps at once, which takes longer than restoring. And there are already apps out there that do what you want to do, the apps just aren't redownloaded from the market. Titanium Backup has other features too, and really helps with clean installs.
I don't think that what you want exists, aside from the built in Google backup. If you'd rather keep doing what you're doing instead of using backup/restore software, it's your time to waste.

Looking for light-weight app to backup/restore an app's "appdata"

I have a couple of apps that take a very long time to configure; unfortunately, they don't have any ways to backup their settings. The same holds true for saving game progress.
I'm looking for an app that allows me to backup/restore any app's "appdata" either on the same Android device or another Android device... ideally, something that backs up to OneDrive or Google Drive.
I found Backup and Restore which looks like it does exactly what I want. Unfortunately, it looks like the developer completely abandoned that app. Google Drive backup feature is completely broken for everyone using that app.
I'm not interested in an app that also backs up contacts, SMS, photos, etc. I only want something to focus just on backing up each app's appdata.
Update: It looks like Helium Backup can do what I want via ADB and a PC (without needing Root access). I would prefer not to use ADB.. however, if I have to, I will.

Smart Switch Alternative? How Transfer Full Data Backup to new Samsung Phone? - Android 12

Hello,
So I just transfered my Data throught Smart Switch, wich was basically a good thing.
However on one part Iam really not so happy and need a better way.
Because if you want to transfer your Accounts as well (check this Option), you get forced to activate WIFI & Internet - for everything else you don't need to.
Why? Probably because Smart Switch wants to send your accounts to the samsung servers, wich is done pretty fast, because the accounts are basically just text.
I don't want to send my accounts around and I bet you don't want to as well. Except you do sync everything... then its too late anyway.
So my Question is:
Is there a good workaround or another tool, wich lets you transfer your main accounts - without sending them to samsung or anyone?
What is your experience? And do you know a workaround?
Please let me/us know
|||||
Never trust SmartSwitch with critical data.
Make backups for contacts and all apps the allow you export/import settings/data. Use ApkExport to make installable copies of all your apps and updates.
All critical data like images, music, vids should be backed up as folder and should already be redundantly backed up to at least 2 hdds that are physically and electronically isolated from each other and the PC.
When going to a different model it's best not to use SmartSwitch. For the same device I use it to transfer homepage settings only.
A clean load yields best results... and can last years with minimal maintenance if you don't do stupid stuff including firmware updates and upgrades.
Yeah, I think so as well.
However APK Export is from 2018. I don't think It can be trusted either. Especially with Android 12 etc
Also I didn't give SmartSwitch Internetaccess, because of AFwall, so Iam ok with that.
Problem is now, how to transfer all the accounts? I don't like to do it all manually.
It doesn't let me do it without an Internetconnection, wich can't be trusted. I don't want to send all my accounts to samsung, lol. That seems to be the only purpose, why there needs to be an Internet Connection with the Accounts.
Before Titanium Backup was great and also it took all the Accountdata with it (whatsapp etc).
Now there seems to be Swift Backup, but I need to test it first.. it doesn't seem to be that powerful.

Well I'm running Android 9 and 10, deliberately.
The ApkExport is clean freeware.
It either will work with 12 or not.
Easy enough to test.
Now Iam also searching for another Alternative.
So basically to have the Function like Smart Switch, but for any Phone, so you can at least quickly transfer contacts etc. - any Ideas?
Edit: maybe found some ways here:
https://mobiletrans.wondershare.com/samsung-transfer/alternatives-for-samsung-smart-switch.html
Edit2:
they are all not as good as Smart Switch so far... damn.
Edit3: Here is Smart-Switch and many Alternatives - wich need to be tested..
smart switch - Android Apps on Google Play
Enjoy millions of the latest Android apps, games, music, movies, TV, books, magazines & more. Anytime, anywhere, across your devices.
play.google.com
But Iam still searching for a good way to also transfer the accounts savely to an S22U.
Damn a Smart-Switch Mod would be awesome.

Backup as a text or wdoc so you can cut/paste.
You need to redundantly backup critical data by tried and proven methods or you risk getting your data splattered like a NYC crime scene.
Ok, now I have an S21 Ultra ^^
But still I had this Problem... and some apps didn't had their app data.
I have both rooted phones. Isn't there a better alternative?
Edit again:
Before I always used Titanium Backup in this Case, wich worked great, but sadly does not work on Android 11/12 properly and now it seems to be abandonware.
However here I found a possible solution/alternative:
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=swift+backup
But I wonder again, why you have to login to your google account with this tool...
And here are some solutions as well:
