[Q] samsung galaxy s2 exynos mem bug - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have samsung galay s2, ICS installed on it. instead of showing its internal USB storage as 11Gb , its showing 4.11Gb. i installed an app called
"exynos-mem bug checker". it says "this device is affected by the 'exynos-mem' bug issue".
what is actually the problem ? and whats the solution ?
whats the best way to get my lost memory back ??
m much worried abt it ..because i recently bought it.
kindly reply asap

Never heard of that but a flash or factory reset would do the trick.
Of course you might get bricked if you factory reset on 4.0.4.
Siyah v5 would help you get to the safe side tho.

Bug Is better know as brick bug. You on firmware 4.0.4? Flash with Odin firmware 4.1.2 and you won't have the brick bug. Whatever you do don't factory reset your phone while on ICS. You need to read a lot more if your on that firmware. Sammobile is were you will get 4.1.2 jelly bean firmware. And don't mess up flashing with Odin. Before you do that read

Oh, you're right, I got mixed up with the internal space thing.
I stand corrected, I did hear about Brick bug.
Sent from the little guy

Judging by what you said in the OP, your phone IS affected by brickbug.
Just so you are 100% clear on this......
Brickbug IS a phone killer....no way back from it....as @andrewwright and @gastonw have both said.....DO NOT under ANY circumstances, perform ANY wipe while on ICS 4.0.4.
upgrade to JB 4.1.2 or roll back to ICS 4.0.3 as soon as safely possible.
Visit sammobile for the firmware and use Odin to flash it......but before using Odin, read everything you can find about it.....don't just rush blindly in, or you are likely to have other problems......good luck

The theory behind that idea is sound.....
But......
Flashing a pit file is seen as a LAST resort....
If it goes wrong, it'll have pretty much the same effect as a brickbug wipe.....turn the phone into an expensive paperweight.......

Not certain if this would work, but you could try odin flashing the JB leak test firmware @gastonw should be able to link you to it.......
I believe it formats (and repartitions?) during the flash, so it *could* be the solution you're looking for......somebody cmiiw
Edit.....here's the link.....
http://www.sammobile.com/2012/11/15/i9100xxlsj-–-galaxy-s-ii-android-4-1-2-jelly-bean-test-firmware/
It's a 3 part firmware, so it's not as simple as adding a single file to Odin, but if you read and follow the instructions in that link, you should be OK........

Actually.....just had a rethink about this.......
Here are the 'known' facts.......
1) you WERE on ICS 4.0.4
2) your phone was classed as 'at risk' from brickbug
3) you appear to have lost some storage space.
My (worst case scenario) guess is that you performed some sort of data wipe, and while it didn't kill your phone, it corrupted a portion of your storage. I'm guessing that if you now try to repartition the storage, you'll run into issues where the repartition *could* fail.......and you'll be left with an unusable phone......as it stands, you CAN use the phone, I'd be tempted to leave it that way, and maybe claim warranty with Samsung. Maybe @theunderling or @andrewwright or @gastonw or @Hopper8 can comment on this theory........

Yeah, storage doesn't just go away.
Is there something you're not telling us? If there isn't, contact samsung/warranty.

we've been facing the same issue on s advance while flashing 16 gb version without a specific pit file or checking repartition without one.
if you guys saying its risky on s2 i got that, it was just a clue how we solved it in s advance. flashing firmware with odin and correct pit file solved the memory shrinkage issue.

The Brick Bug

I have passed the last 3 hours searching about this since I saw it on another post.
What is the brick bug??
According to my readings, this is related to ICS leaks flashing for sgs2 and galaxy note on roms and based kernels...and u can hardbrick ur phone when u do wipes / resets erasing partitions on the emmc.. kind of..
Masters like Chainfire and many others (my bad i forgot their names but they know who they are).. have provided explanations and links to this info. 1+ to KennyLegend for posting the link I read in the other thread.
So, after checking my s2 with Chainfire's app. I got the damn 0x19 chip which means I have the bad one but reading and reading it seems that for kernels based on the 4update source its kinda safe... But as I am not a developer and just and user Im still confused a lil bit about this...
And I know there is info missing for the readers on this thread... Im sorry really .. Im still confused and Im opening this thread with the intention of understand better the issue, so that I beg to the real masters that please clear all our doubts..
I.e. : what are the safe kernels based on the safest update?
And are we safe running xxlpxxx stock rom??
What flashing junkies need to know??
Is it possible to brick our device now since this bug was found on may??
And many many more doubts that will come up...
Thanks

you mean the one whereby when you are using a kernel with the brick bug in it and you clear data, cache, you will brick your phone in the process right?
Hi
I've got the same (maybe) Problem here
Also i have that
VYLOOM
Revision 0x19
eMMC Chip on my GT-I9100
I have the free German Version (Country Code DBT)
And currently using the Polish XXLPW ROM (Kies Release) flashed with Odin over the official XWLP7 also from Kies. Using Chainfires CF-Root for LPW.
Reading this thread in the Epic 4G Touch General Section
it seems that some of the Devs Kernel don't have the 'workaround' that samsung has in some of his kernels.
Maybe of my english or because i haven't the time to read all the 47 Page so far, i do not clearly understand if this bug is only happens if you use factory wipe from the CWM or could it also happens if you use the Option from the normal ROM Settings under ICS.
I will read on and seeking in other sites for more information.
regards
Christopher
We do not have to worry if we are using the international sgs2 (i9100). I think it was for the korean version of sgs2. There are people who hard bricked their device using a custom kernel where they wiped and the phone never came back (it's in the general section). It's really not the fault of the kernel developer but by samsung. So no need to worry guys.

Relax. There's nothing to worry about. If this happens to you (very unlikely), it will happen suddenly, and there will be nothing you can do to stop it happening. If the 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance of it happening bothers you that much & you want to be absolutely sure that it doesn't, leave your phone on stock & don't mess with it.
This is probably the least responsible piece of information/firmware/app I've seen released in the 8 mths I've been coming here :-|

check the attached images i m running 4.0.3 ics Aut Switzerland
tell me its brick bug i many tym wipe/ factory reset with cwm nothing happen but chainfire app say brick bug exist
The brick bug is only present in ICS 4.0.4 firmware with Samsung kernel (or stock based kernel such as CF-Root) and it's only an issue if you wipe using CWM.
If your phone is stock and you have stock recovery then you're fine. You can delete/wipe cache, factory reset as much as you like. No harm will be done.
In short: 4.0.4 firmware + CWM = Brick.
Unless you flash a 'safe' kernel such as Siyah or NEAK or Speed mod
Brick bug x19 vyloom on my sgs2
hi im new to this forum
i have vyloom x19 emmc bug on my sgs2 so just wanted to ask can i change the firmware to other region or neat firmware over that via odin is it possible?

Bricked after factory reset, I can't even see CWM. Help!

So the thing is I'm using ROOTBOX ICS rom, and because I'm willing to gift my phone to a cousin I did a Factory Reset, then my phone turn off and when it tries to wake up, after Samsung logo, it makes like a blink on the screen... every 3 seconds.
I can't enter CWM Recovery using VolUp+Menu+Power, however I can enter Download Mode using VolDown+Menu+Power.
So guys, give me a solution here please.
Thank you so much.

If you don't want to flash a stock ROM, root, and flash a custom ROM again, you can use one of odin flashable files for custom kernels, not all have one but you can check (Dorimanx for example)

Having problems moving apps to SD on my rooted Cricket SGS3

Hoping someone can help me figure out the easiest way to move my larger games (and save data, if applicable) from my internal memory to the 64gb external SD card I originally planned on using it all for.. I recently rooted my phone and the first thing I wanted to get done is this memory move. Been having nothing but problems so far.. I saw a video showing someone using a program called GL to SD and it looked easy but I keep getting 'insufficient storage space' errors when I try downloading it off the play store. I tried side loading it too but received another similar error only after successfully downloading it, then trying to install.. Something seems to be blocking this program from working, regardless..
Anyway, also tried Link2SD to no avail and I was just hoping someone here may be able to help me a bit, kinda new to the scene here.. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure about 'directory bind' or what that means, sorry, I'm pretty new to this..

Alright, I have a new dilemma it would seem.. I just used ROM manager to flash the newest cyanogenmod ROM to my phone. The first time I did it, it successfully backed up my system data, then errored out after trying attempting to backup user data. I went back in and made sure to back up everything via Titanium Backup, then retried flashing this time without selecting backup (still chose to wipe cache/dalvik. Everything seemed to be going fine after that, it installed the ROM successfully but after booting up again (with the new cyanogenmod logo and everything), I keep getting 2 errors that keep popping up... 1) Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped. and then 2) Unfortunately, Setup Wizard has stopped.. Anyone know what this could be or how to go about fixing this possibly? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Oh. Thanks, sorry about that. Could you be so kind as to point me to the correct forum here on XDA possibly? My phone is pretty much bricked right now and I need it for work tomorrow. This is the kind of thing I was worried about when I decided to ROOT this thing. I'm freakin out right now.. I've asked this same questing on the Cricket Users forum and noone has helped me just yet..
EDIT: without having to flash anything new, possibly you could tell me how to revert back to what I originally had without too much trouble? I searched these forums to find nothing at all for the Cricket version. I did my homework before flashing the rom and it was definetly okayed for my phone. Again, any help would be a life saver.. Would it be advisable to install the original root package from my sd card again? Could that hurt anything?

Yes, 2 genuine batteries samsung (1600mah) of the S2
1650.
Try to nuke it.
You gotta rule out software before you start thinking hardware.

Help me my friend in this question....
With the problems that I reported, what I have to do???
The installation shows 4 different ways to do... With my problems, what I have to flash???
You wanna flash the stock ROM option.
Now....looking at this closely I'm concerned about that "changes the time by itself" thing. Ask her if the device has been in touch with any kind of liquid (coffee, water, drink, etc).

I bought the S2 used.
Came with ICS 4.0.3.
Recently I flashed Omega Rom, why I need to follow the installation of Stock Rom? Because Omega is Sammy based?
So, in your opinion, I need to follow this:
"If you are installing a new STOCK ROM and want to do a Nuke/Wipe then:
1. Reboot into CWM Recovery
2. Install zip from SD card>Run GS2ROMWipe or GS2ROMNuke
3. Reboot into Download mode
4. Install your stock ROM via Odin
5. Re-root your device"
???
You're gonna flash a stock ROM after you wipe. Stock ROMs are great to see if an issue persists because, if it does, you need to start thinking about a hardware issue.
Did you ask her about the water/whatever?

Yes, and she told me that never came into contact with water or liquids.
So, summarizing and concluding, after doing the "[CWM UTIL] GS2ROMNuke/Wipe/Reset/Clean Scripts," I have flashing for example the official 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and then root?
Lastly, view what happens with the phone, right?
Exactly.

The only kernel that I have to root is the Siyah-v3.2b8.
You advise another or this is ideal?
In a few days i´m gonna try your solution... 4 days have passed and the phone has not given problems... weird...
If it's not giving you crap don't flash anything.
You could also flash stock and see how it goes.
Give it 2 weeks.

[Q] enter encryption code warning after upgrading to 4.1, plz help

I updated my friends Galaxy S2(I9100g) to 4.1.0 by downloading files from sammobile and then used odin.
But after flashing the files it shows Enter encryption code to use device storage.
I have tried almost everything but failed.
then I contacted to Samsung care and they says that its a motherboard issue. but how it is possible, I mean the device is not even rooted in past and not a single custom rom is flashed on it.
Then whats the issue is about and how can I solve this?

A rule...you don't flash or upgrade with encryption on. Chances are there is no way bk. If you solve this pls repost how you did this. A lot of people have this problem with no way bk.

I think you understand now..
Think your mate is playing dumb. Sorry. It don't just come on you see. He's turned it on and set the pin so he must no about it.

That may be possible but as per I know he doesn't know anything about the encryption option.
So what will I do to clear this issue.
I found a similar thread here's the link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2114380
I tried the same procedure given in thread that to enter the wrong password for few times(in my case 40-50 times) but nothing happened.
You could try the jb leak firmware and try to do what's done in the link. May work. Have you tried to format the SD card and format system, data, cache?

yup, I have formatted everything by entering stock recovery and then using wipe data/factory reset. but failed.
will you please tell me that where this encryption code or any other codes are stored in device?
Factory reset is not format. Flash siyah kernel and format in that recovery. Under mounts and storage.
Will u provide me link for that kernel???plz

And i think that this kernel is for i9100 while i am having i9100g.
So can i use this kernel for my device??
If not, plz provide a suitable kernel link.
Sent from my GT-I9082 using xda premium
Go with philz kernel for ease. Same thing really. Main thing is you end up with cwm.
Ok. I will try.

Is worth a try.
But i dnt hv the device with me now. It is in service centre.
So few days are required to get it back.
Sent from my GT-I9082 using xda premium
Service center can fix this. Why ask if you put it in for service??
First thing is that..it is out of warranty and second thing is at service centre they said me that its motherboard issue and you need to change that, but cost is about 8500/- INR.

I get it . and you want to know if it can be fixed.
Yup...actualy i cant afford that much prize for it.
Thats why came here to ask.
Sent from my GT-I9082 using xda premium
I dont blame you for doing that. Is your mate saying you have to pay to fix this then?
Not actually...i just feel emberrased thts why.
