Got it to work! Uninstall drivers, reinstall, go to device manager, update drivers on the device (says android), profit!

Is there any way to disable installer mode when installed to the computer? It will say it goes into installer mode, then the disconnect n reconnect sound on my computer goes off n it says its then connected as a USB mass storage device. I think that's causing issues with me unlocking because as soon as it reboots from casual, it will turn on, casual reads it n then it will disconnect n re connect into mass storage mode. Anyway to stop it from going into this installer mode?

Well not mass storage mode but whatever that mode is that lets you select files from your SD card/internal memory.

I don't know of a way to prevent installer mode from showing up, however all new Samsung devices use the mtp protocol.mtp behaves like the old mass storage mode

It's most likely your computer that's being mean to you. I'd try:
1. different usb cables
2. different usb ports on your computer
3. re-start your computer
4. completely uninstall kies
5. re-start your computer and install kies again!
You may need to get into Windows (I'm assuming you're on a Windows machine) registry and clear out usb device entries -- google it.
Try reinstalling the drivers

Download PDANet and the Samsung Drivers. Use a oem cable and see what happens. I had a issue when I first got my Note but it was probably because of Windows 8 not playing well with it.

Ok...I have been trying to root my phone through casual and usb debugging will not turn on. Enabled it in development settings, and still nothing. Tried two cords and it will not do nothing but charge. Tried two separate computers, win 7 and 8. Still a no go. I'm lost. Any help would be appreciated.

Alright, so everything was fine yesterday. Dragged and dropped some videos to my Nexus 7(2013) and my DNA. However, today, ai plugged in my DNA and Nexus.....strange enough, it charges my device but it doesn't mount for me to access my files.

Are you sure you're DNA is in Media device mode?

When I plug my phone in, no options pop up in my status bar to change any input settings.
I tried all my ports, restarted my computer, and it still doesn't work.
I believe something may be wrong with my DNA.
That, and I think a recent update I received for Windows 8 may be to blame. Because I also plugged in my Nexus 7(2013) and that, unlike my DNA, shows up as a device, but it's as an unknown device. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers but that didn't work.
But still, at least it shows up unlike my DNA, my DNA just charges but isn't recognized by my laptop at all.

Does the DNA show in device manager? Any yellow exclamation points? You may have to reload the drivers manually.

The DNA doesn't show up under device manager. Only the Nexus 7(2013) does. I tried reloading the drivers manually for that, but it continues to show the yellow exclamation.

Yeah it does actually, that randomly started happening as well!
Mine was doing that because of a problem with the USB in phone. Had to get a replacement. The input was bent, so it wouldn't connect properly.

Did you try running it from the directory that the adb executable is in?
Yeah. Tried running it as administrator still with no luck. It was easy when I did it with moonshine on Linux with my first DNA but idk what the problem is now. I'm trying it on windows so I may be missing something.

* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
Yep. Got that exactly. Just doesn't show the device.

But in the dev mode did you actually check the "usb debugging" option?
Sometimes you need to turn off Dev mode and turn it back on a few times (making sure to re-check USB Debugging) and then it should work.
I don't mean to sound like you don't know what you're doing I'm just trying to cover all possible options.
so to answer your question, no. I somehow either skipped right over it or the option wasnt there when I looked. Its recognized by adb but now when I try to flash a recovery I just get "Waiting for device".

You are using the Fastboot command right and not the adb command to flash the recovery

I do adb devices to make sure that it is connected, which it is. then the fastboot flash recovery followed by file name.
