1) Give it a try. Should work on all xperia devices.
2) Yes you can. Since xperia go got official jb update and you don't have to unlock your bootloader to install jb, there is no problem. You can backup keys with both ics and jb
3) If you unlock your bootloader you will void your warranty in any case. Backup ta partition will not make you loose bravia engine when after unlocking your bootloader you want to relock it. Won't save your warranty this mod

Thanks for your reply you have cleared all my doubts but another question if i restore the ta partition and relock bootloader i have my warranty back correct?
It doesn't matter afaik restoring ta partition to get back your warranty (maybe I am wrong though). What really does matter is relocking the bootloader.

You can be right(I'm the noob XD) but i have read if you not backup the ta partition your warranty is void. So relocking the bootloader is insuficient, you have to relock bootloader and restore the ta partition .
The tool creator said:"Backup TA can backup and restore the TA partition of the device. When you create a backup before unlocking for the first time, then you will be able to restore to full factory state (including a locked bootloader). This means all DRM keys intact, Bravia Engine working in Album and last but not least your warranty when needed":good:

I already read this thread mate, that's because I told you that I could be wrong.
Ok then, there is no reason for not trusting the tool creator. Just root and use this tool. Save and put keys in a safe folder and enjoy

Hi guys, i have an idea. Will the idea of unlocking the bootloader and then do the root (with recovery enabled kernel that is) and then relocking (restoring the TA partition first) the bootloader work? I am a little bit confused with the fact about the DRM kind of things, since i don't want to lose it so if we could restore it back later then why this technique was never discussed? Please give me any information

Oh yeah i forgot.. this trick will not work if you haven't done TA backup wouldn't it? :-/ I have done that before so i guess this idea won't work for anybody without TA backup i guess no?

flashing the TA partition and locking the bootloader, and then flashing a stock FTF base/firmware will make your device exactly how you bought it.. It will allow x-reality to work in both movies/album, as well as track ID working.
- This technique has been discussed in previous threads.
== Do a search and you will see there is a FTF flashing guide. flashtool guide both in the android development section.
A guide on just about everything in the general section... have a look...
However even an unlocked bootloader will allow the x-reality engine to work with videos. But will stop netflicks from working. So there are probably a few apps out there that need a locked bootloader to work properly.
To have a locked bootloader you need a stock kernel. It will need to be signed, so even a boot.img or kernel.sin would be fine. Just needs to be stock.
- You could Root, backup TA partition, unlock bootloader, and then lock bootloader again. But that still uses a rooting tool.
forgive me if I'm wrong (and someone correct me) but we cant do a TA back up without root.
When I was looking into the ZU the only way to root was to unlock the bootloader then flash a new boot.img (?), this avoided vroot et al, and the issues that we seem to have atm but did mean that the first to root lost their DRM keys (TA partition) with the rooting

You can downgrade to lower firmware anytime without root, than use vroot if you don't mind some risk, than backup TA
I want to unlock the bootloader of my Z2 but I'm scared about relocking it with TA Backup. Has anyone tried it? If so, how did you do it?

what? i dont exactly understand, here is some info to clear up some doubts or potentialy answer your question. ;D
if you had a backup of your TA restoring it will relock your bootloader
relocking your bootloader doesnt bring the contents of your TA partition
and for me relocking i used flashtool as i do not have a backup of my TA partition
relocking or unlocking your bootloader wipes your device data so backup your internal storage before doing

you've answered my questions! thank you!
Hi all.
My questions should have already been answered but I want definitive and up to date answers, since this will be my first sony device in years and I wouldn't want to waste my money.
So, here we go!
1) Can I root my device without loosing warranty?
2) I saw there is a ta backup utility, if I use this my warranty will be okay if i restore before sending in the device?
3) I found a 4 month used one, at a good price and I want to check if it has been rooted and in conclusion if the warranty is valid or not. How can I do this?
Again I am deeply sorry for asking!
EDIT:
Found this, is this valid?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53908905&highlight=warranty#post53908905
Can I root and just unroot be ok?
What about flashing roms on locked bootloader?
If I restore my stock rom would I still be covered as long as we talk about warranty?
Sony has changed their warrenty recently
Rooting doesnt void your warreny but breaks ota updates untill you undo and unroot the device
You can flash a FTF using flashtool to restore totaly stock firmware if you want
Xperia warrenties are valid from when you purchase
Given proof of purchase and date of purchase your warrenty will start there
2 years insternational warrenty for all devices
If a device has been rooted it will most likely have superuser or supersu app
And if it doesnt you can just check using root checket, and even then you can just flash a FTF file to fully factory reset the device

What about the TA Partition?
Is there any way to check if this is ok or not?
Unlocking the bootloader voids warranty, right?
P.S. Could you send me a link about Sony changing it's warranty, can't find it.

Ta partition, its currently imposible to check its contents
Unlocking your bootloader will wipe your TA and void your warrenty
The warrenty info should be somewhere on the sonymobile website

Oh.. Relocking your bootloader doesnt bring back its contents, aka DRM keys
Also Nothing is lost exept warrenty when unlocking your bootloader however this varies depending on your country, branding or version of the unit
Most versions just lose X-reality

Got it.
If I had backed up the TA Partition (which contains the DRM keys) and flashed stock firmware, restored the keys and relocked my bl, would I be ok?
So the only way to lose warranty is unlock the bootloader?
If i flash a rom, on locked bl, my warranty would be ok after I unrooted and restored factory firmware?

Restoring your TA relocks your bootloader
1. Backup TA
2. Unlock bootloader
2. Rom/kernel flashing time
3. Flash totaly stock kernel (from ftf)
4. Restore TA
Restoring your TA brings back your warrenty :/
Flashing a rom on Locked BL i dont know that affects the warrenty because ive never fully read it/cared for it
Restoring stock fw should reinstate the warrenty because the device isnt concidered modified
I think to get the best info, go and find the sony mobile warrenty info

This will only allow restore certain features (X-Reality, Noise cancelling etc) - It won't allow apps that require the DRM keys to be present to actually be used, so far this seems to be the Playstation/Remote Play apps.

The mod linked above doesn't relock the bootloader, it just restores some features.
If you want to relock your bootloader, you'll need to flash the original kernel. More info here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52567280#post52567280
Search also returns quite a few threads with more info.

Nope, even after relocking the bootloader, the features you listed still require the original and unique DRM keys to function - the only real way to restore their functionality properly is either by the mod above or restoring the TA partition that held the DRM key info.

Yes you have to restore your TA partition. Use the very same tool that you used to backup your TA partition.
Now if you do not have your TA partition then forget about it. Just go over to Sony and pay the cost. If not get a new phone.
