I want to unlock the bootloader of my Z2 but I'm scared about relocking it with TA Backup. Has anyone tried it? If so, how did you do it?

what? i dont exactly understand, here is some info to clear up some doubts or potentialy answer your question. ;D
if you had a backup of your TA restoring it will relock your bootloader
relocking your bootloader doesnt bring the contents of your TA partition
and for me relocking i used flashtool as i do not have a backup of my TA partition
relocking or unlocking your bootloader wipes your device data so backup your internal storage before doing

1) Give it a try. Should work on all xperia devices.
2) Yes you can. Since xperia go got official jb update and you don't have to unlock your bootloader to install jb, there is no problem. You can backup keys with both ics and jb
3) If you unlock your bootloader you will void your warranty in any case. Backup ta partition will not make you loose bravia engine when after unlocking your bootloader you want to relock it. Won't save your warranty this mod

Thanks for your reply you have cleared all my doubts but another question if i restore the ta partition and relock bootloader i have my warranty back correct?
It doesn't matter afaik restoring ta partition to get back your warranty (maybe I am wrong though). What really does matter is relocking the bootloader.

You can be right(I'm the noob XD) but i have read if you not backup the ta partition your warranty is void. So relocking the bootloader is insuficient, you have to relock bootloader and restore the ta partition .
The tool creator said:"Backup TA can backup and restore the TA partition of the device. When you create a backup before unlocking for the first time, then you will be able to restore to full factory state (including a locked bootloader). This means all DRM keys intact, Bravia Engine working in Album and last but not least your warranty when needed":good:

I already read this thread mate, that's because I told you that I could be wrong.
Ok then, there is no reason for not trusting the tool creator. Just root and use this tool. Save and put keys in a safe folder and enjoy

You're welcome mate, it's a pleasure. For any further help let me know.
Hi,
I had the S3 and switched to the Z2 last month. So I am new to the bootloader thing.
Is it right that I can relock the BL by restoring the TA partition for warranty for example?
Or can Sony see that I've unlocked it?
just be sure to backup your TA, and you can go back to your original undetectable state
.....
Hi thx for your reply
So when I restore the TA the BL becomes locked again? Or is it possible without locking it?
And do I need a new backup when I update from .402 to .314 ?

Why do you need unlock at all? Exist root methods without unlocking...
When I want to install a custom kernel for example.
Restoring the Trim Area locks the bootloader.

Does locking the BL wipes data the same as unlocking it?
Yeah m8, re-locking your bootloader will wipe your phone so, as always do a backup first:good:
E2303, 8GB. Phone image was downgraded temporarily to root with xperiarootkit & backup TA. Latest stock image (with carrier branding due to connectivity issues without it) was (re-)installed afterwards, bootloader unlocked, TWRP installed & phone re-rooted. TA was then restored. SIM card is perma-locked to carrier. ( )
Phone is rooted, TWRP works, bootloader status is still unlocked (???), TA partition exists, but DRM features like ClearAudio+ etc. are missing from the settings. Anyone have any idea what's going/how this can be fixed? Does Backup TA not restore correctly (or worse, backup incorrectly!!! This would be VERY bad!) on the M4 Aqua?
I unlocked without backing up drm Keys and i have normally working phone with Clear Audio+...
What next features dont working u?
Normally you have to re-lock your bootloader for those DRM-related features to work again. At least that's how it was on my Xperia SP.
Can anyone tell me all DRM features on this device please?

if you did a TA backup when the Bootloader was locked and if you use the TA Backup tool to restore it, it will lock the bootloader again.
thats how it worked for me on my Xperia z and now Xperia M4 (E2363)
How did you backup and how did you restore? The restore perhaps didn't work because the TA partition has to be set to writable (via blockdev command).
This is just a guess. I didn't unlock yet but did a backup of TA (manually, not using some batch files because I don't trust them and I run Linux and Win batch files won't work).

My apologies for being a month late with this.
Flashtool provided the option to re-lock your bootloader. So, once you've restored your TA backup you can then use flashtool to re-lock.
Hope this was useful. :fingers-crossed:
Cheers,
Re-locking using flash tool only locks the bootloader but does not restore the DRM certificates.
after re-locking with flashtool you can use PCC to repair the phone and get OTA updates, but the DRM certificates are not restored, they are lost for good.
unless you have used TA Backup (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598) to backup the TA partition when the bootloader was locked and the certificates were all ok and valid, you need root with locked BL for this to work.
Restoring the TA partition with TA Backup tool, locks and restores the drm certs again root is required for TA restore.
i know because mine worked.
Hey guys, I hope there isn't a similar post already.
I need to send my phone to repair and I wanna try to use the warranty else if my bootloader is u locked.
I restored the fw with flashtool, what to do now? I have to relock bl I guess, but have I to restore TA partition or something like that before?
Up & up

Yes you have to restore your TA partition. Use the very same tool that you used to backup your TA partition.
Now if you do not have your TA partition then forget about it. Just go over to Sony and pay the cost. If not get a new phone.

I didn't backup my TA partition, I just restored it same months after root, when tool was released.
Can anyone tell us if reflashing the stock rom over a custom rom will reinstate the LOCKED BOOTLOADER and the DRM KEYS!
Your help is always appreciated, Thanks in advance.
Will not reinstall them. After unlocking of bootloader DRM keys are gone forever. The only way to keep DRM keys is before unlocking of bootloader to make backup of TA partition.

Every thread i have been on, require us to root the device first!
So does that mean we cant backup TA Partition for DRM KEYS? As for root bootloader should be unlocked for this device.
With Lollipop phone can be rooted without unlocking of boot loader. Then you can make backup of TA partition. After backup phone can be upgraded to Marshmallow, then bootloader can be unlocked and phone rooted. In fact my phone also is rooted, I don't need DRM keys and don't make backup of TA partition. Why you need backup of DRM keys?

Thanks for such a fast response.
The reason is because i really want to root my device. But people over net sometimes complain for issues at camera(quality reduction and non functionality) after unlocking bootloader. I dont even know if these are really related. I just wanted to be ready if anything happens.
Please tell having a TA BACKUP for DRM, is that necessary or not. And TA BACKUP from my lollipop will work at my marshmallow as well ryt!
My phone is rooted and don't find any quality problem with camera or something else .
