[Q] Stock Messaging causing reboots? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

As part of my job responsibilities I am on call and receive pages for system alerts. Sometimes, we get many (hundreds) of alerts at once. The first time this happened with my S4 it rebooted itself after about 30 SMS messages were received in quick succession. Three more times this past weekend it did the same thing. At the time I was on the lock screen, so the SMS notification thing was up on the screen, and I could tell it was having trouble updating the screen with the frequency of incoming notifications.
Anyone else experience this problem, and do you think Verizon would accept this as "faulty" and exchange my phone for something that can handle SMS notifications, if there's no fix?
No I'm not rooting, if I pay for a working phone I want a working phone out of the box. If I mess with it afterwards, THEN I have only myself to blame, but I'd like to get this issue worked out before I do that, as I have done with all the phones I've rooted/unlocked.

delayed text messages

right,
my wifes starting to lose her temper with her hero.
she send over 150 text messages a day, but receiving them seems to be a very hit and miss affair.
she gets texts ok for a while, then gets nothing for 10-20 mins (from what i can tell) then all the ones she has missed arrive all at once.
orange UK have basically told her to naff off and talk to HTC.
so, can anyone tell me whats causing the problems, is it an orange problem, or a phone problem.
if its the phone, whats causing the problem
doing a bit of a search, one explanation seems to be that the phone is running out of memory and it shuts down the text app and relaunches it later on, if so, how can i prevent/stop this happening.
she is on the current rom from HTC which she installed about 10 days ago to try and prevent this.
thanks in advance for any advice / help you can give
from what i have read on the forum it might be a problem with the stock messaging app.
try installing handcent sms or chomp sms from the market and see how that goes.
don't forget to turn off the notifications from the stock sms app or you will get multiple notifications for the same message.
also if your wife is using task killer applications she should put the messaging app on the ignore list!
Me too!
I am having this very same problem, although on a slightly smaller scale (150 texts/day?!). I also get the problem where callers are going straight to my voicemail when the phone is right beside me, receiving full signal, which, to my mind, would seem to be related.
I spoke to Orange who fobbed me off with "oh, there's a mast down in your area, switch to use 2G only", despite my protestations that the problem occurred when I was in different parts of the country...
Interestingly, it happened with my Touch Diamond as well when I first got that, about 18 months ago; I was never sure that it was completely cured, but it sure as hell wasn't as bad as it is now on my 2 month old Hero with stock Orange ROM.
My twopenneth, for what it's worth.
P.
Try a new updated Radio rom maybe? One way to tell if its a network issue is to make calls to 150 for about 10 seconds and see if the stuck messages come through, if so its a network issue. I wouldn't let orange customer service fob you off they don't have the reporting tools to actually look into the issue's.

Android 5.1.1 notifications don't notify when screen off

Hello,
Recently purchased an LG V10 with 5.1.1 stock, AT&T, and I've done absolutely no modding.
Scenario 1: sending hangouts data messages over LTE (for example; they are quick and easy to test with) work OK from my end. On receiving phone on different carrier, message arrives in about 5sec. Slower than I'm used to on every other phone I've used but not a big deal. SMS are sent faster and arrive in the normal amount of time which is still faster than hangouts.
Scenario 2: My phone is asleep\screen off and hangout messages are sent from the other phone to mine over LTE. My phone does nothing for as long as I let it stay asleep. But Incoming phone calls to my cell number notifies me instantly and
SMS sent to my phone notifies me instantly.
Scenario 1 and 2 are the same when using Wi-Fi, and with other apps that can trigger notifications when the screen is off. Those notifications only appear after I've unlocked the phone, and some appear only after I've opened the app. The notifications will have correct timestamps but the sounds and visuals only happen once I've picked up the phone and started using it; they all flood in at once.
I've made sure that my settings for allowing notifications (priority it's called on the LG ROM) is set to allow everything.
I've done a lot of searching online and people with various phones (Galaxy S6's most recently) appear to have this issue and it also appears to have a history as far back as Android 4.1. They say the fix is an app that changes the checking times from the stock Android 28minutes or something, down to like 5 minutes. I have tried one that doesn't require root and it has not changed any behaviour that I can measure.
My question is, is this a phone problem? Like a bad OS install from the factory (did i just get a bad unit?) or an APN setting issue (haven't messed with it from factory settings) or is it an Android problem that needs a bug submitted since I see it happening on Samsung phones too?
I've had many other phones, mostly Samsung and even a Note 4 with Android 5.1.1 but hangouts and emails and every other notification was practically instantaneous whether on Wi-Fi or cell network.
Thoughts?

No notification on incoming text messages

I have had a HTC One Max now for almost two years. Over the last few weeks, incoming text notifications for the most part have stopped. The phone ringer works fine every time, but 90% of the time I have to just check my phone to see if I have an incoming text. I am using Mood SMS, but that apparently is not the problem. I also have the same issue if I use ChompSMS or the stock messaging app. Notifications are turned on, on both MoodSMS and the stock app. I have tried clearing cache and have even done a factory reset of the phone, and this is still happening. The phone is stock 4.4.2 and is temporarily rooted using Weaksauce2. It has been this way for months with no problems, so I do not think I can blame it. As a side note, last week we had severe storms and tornado warnings, and I also never received any notification or alarms for them. My wife's and co-workers phones all went off like crazy during the storm warnings. I am baffled! Does anybody have any ideas on what the problem could be? Any help would be appreciated!!

Always have '1 New Voicemail' notification - Can I freeze Phone Services?

So after installing TWRP and flashing a ROM on my phone back in December, I constantly have a notification on my phone from Phone Services telling me I have one new voicemail when my inbox is empty. What's annoying is that it randomly 'refreshes' making the notification noise, so I am forced to keep it on vibrate otherwise I have to listen to that notification going off all day long. I have lived with it for the past 3 months, but have recently realized when I do get voicemails, it never updates the number it always just says one voicemail. It's really frustrating too b/c I live in a rural area where I sometimes don't have reception and if I get a call it never shows up and if they leave a voicemail I'm not notified unless I actually check it.
I have tried clearing data and cache as well as force stopping in the settings and it will automatically come back within a few minutes. I have set the Phone Services notifications to 'Don't show notifications at all', but it completely ignores it. I have tried switching to Google Voice from Sprint Voicemail and it still appears. I tried switching back to Sprint Voicemail and it's still there. I have flashed new builds of the ROM multiple times and it still shows up, usually about an hour or two after flashing. The only thing I haven't done at this point is use the LGFlashTool to completely vert back to factory which I'm avoiding because of the time/effort and the lingering feeling it still won't fix it.
Before going thru that, I was wondering if I could potentially freeze Phone Services with Ice Box and migrate to use Google Voice for voicemail. Does anyone know if this is ok or will it brick my phone?
Any input is appreciate!
UPDATE: On Wednesday I had a random reboot while using my phone and after booting back up I no longer saw the notificiation. It's been several days since then, booth rebooting the phone and using voicemail and still have not got the notification back. Only thing I have noticed is that it no longer gives a notification at all if I get a voicemail, but since I get a text alert I'm not too concerned.
Unfortunately, if somebody else encounters this same issue it's not much help on why it occurred or how to fix it....

S21 Intermittent SMS Fail

Hello folks.
I'm having an issue with my phone, S21 Unlocked SM-G991U1 (purchased directly from Samsung). This post might be long because I want to include all info to help answer questions that I might already have eliminated possible issues on.
I bought the phone March 18th and it's been working perfect up until exactly 4 days ago. What's been happening is that it will fail to send sms/texts randomly throughout the day. I can be having a conversation with someone then suddenly the texts I'm sending will begin to fail and they will get the ! or endless spinning circle depending which messaging app I'm using. I tried several apps (stock messaging, Google messages, textra) to eliminate the possibility of it being a specific one, it happens with all of them.
I then switched my sim card to another phone for several hours (S8) to see if it was a network issue... The S8 works perfect, no failed texts. As soon as I switch the sim back to the s21 the messages will fail again.
This happens at any given time, it will go from working fine for about 5 messages in a row then fail on every next message for about 10-15 mins then start working again.
This does not affect MMS or phone calls. Only SMS.
I'll also be able to receive any sms messages sent to me without issues at any time, even when outgoing ones fail.
I've tried resetting Network Settings to no avail.
I just did a complete factory reset, also no to avail. I'm lost here.
The phone has the latest update and had been working perfect up until 4 days ago. I can also say that I don't think the latest update was the cause because it started the day before I received the push notification for the update.
I'm on AT&T prepaid.
Please let me know if you have any questions I might not have covered or if you've encountered this issue before or what might be the fix. Thanks in advance!
