I see alot of people commenting that the htc one is bad and that the S4 is better well wtf you doing in the One section GTFO to S4's section...nobody here wants to know nothing about that plastic sh*tty ass phone!!!
Here's my two cents, I owned the s4 for a week and thought the ui was so weird, cool phone in some areas but I guess it was too much for me I like the one's ui better it's not so overwhelming

Your giving off that same bias one-sided opinion. Both devices have their own pros and cons and satisfy different needs of users. The S4 is for those who want higher performance, removeable batteries, SUPER AMOLED Display, extra storage space as apps these days seem to be taking up more and more space, featured camera, etc, while in my perspective the One is for those who want a high performance device, with a screen that has great visibility in daylight, good sounding speakers, with a really slick design. Obviously the OS's come into play too, each one offers their own feel and look.
I'm very happy with my S4. I wouldn't trade it for anything. I really value the ability to have my 64GB SD card so i can install more than just a few of my favourite apps, i have 3 batteries so as soon as one dies i can pop in one of the backups and i'm back to a full charge instantly and ready to go. I like the development of this device, and i like to have the strongest hardware with absolutely ZERO lag.
Its great that you like your One, to each person their own, but don't be immature about it and let peoples comments get to you. I gave my reasons for my choice, and you know why you purchased your device over the S4, so it doesn't really matter what anyone else has to say about it.

Please explain this "higher performance". The S4 doesn't offer any performance improvements, as a matter of fact it has a severe hindrance compared to the One due to all of the features Samsung packed in the phone. Lag lag lag.. you can read about it in just about every tech review out there
The One performs better. Period.

On Stock I would agree with that completely, but as i mentioned theres great development for the S4, and the device can OC higher. I personally choose AOKP as my preferred ROM and theres by no means any way a One could run smoother than my S4 on my current ROM. I compare it to my friends Nexus 4 which is considered to be the smoothest device out there and is said to be 100% lag free, but my S4 is just as smooth if not smoother and opens and closes apps faster. I don't care about sacraficing Sammy's features, and i use Nandroids to switch to TW when the rare occasion comes that i want to use touchwiz. Without all the Sammy junk this device is a pure tank. I havent had the slightest microstutter in the few weeks ive ran this ROM, and that's what is most important to me. I'm not saying the One is slow, but the only way this device could get any faster would be a faster processor to open and close apps just those milliseconds faster which are already practically instantaneous.
Yes but you're insinuating that somehow the S4 performs "better". I don't see where you can make that statement, when you're comparing a non-stock ROM to stock. Have you compared the HTC One on AOSP to the S4?
I doubt there would be a "higher performance" with the S4. Bottom line is there is zero advantage in performance when comparing the same set up on both.
This is a flame bait thread. I'm putting forward a motion to have this closed.

Hello everyone, I am trying to decide between getting an HTC EVO 4G LTE or the Samsung Galaxy S3.
I would appreciate any benchmarks mention to help me with my decision, it could also help if you mention why the EVO 4G LTE is a better option.
I would consider all benchmarks.
Dude just get out. Benchmarks mean nothing & the specs on the phones are damn near equal. No need to flaunt benchmarks at all
1st & in before the lock!
The LTEVO says hello!
I can understand your frustration but looking at his join date and post count obviously he hasn't been around here too long and we shouldn't scare him away. Anyways with the us version they benchmark pretty similar although the evo seems to have a slight edge according to some tests I've seen..phone arena got a 5500 quad..which I've never gotten close to..they perform great the evo is just built a lot better and I'm not a fan of touchwiz..but that's subjective
Yeah, they are both the exact same specs....and I agree, don't choose the phone based on which performs a tad better in benchmarks.
If you must know though:
The HTC One X scores higher than both the 4G LTE and SIII. The 4G LTE scores higher all around by a tad bit in both graphical and CPU benchmarks. Although they are very close, making the difference negligible in real life applications.
The memory on the HTC EVO 4G LTE is also a good amount faster than the SIIIs, which is said to reduce the response lag in some real life applications.
TL;DR: The EVO 4G LTE scores higher than the SIII in benchmarks...

Benchmarks r higher on s3 easily btw u shouldnt decide buying a phone on basis of benchmarks ,btw my experience with s3 was slightly better i would say s3
These r my benchmarks but by default too s3 get higher benchmarks cuz it has better gpu ,and an top notch cpu .
I would say go to a store and run both of them and decide

Tony grab the soap before the lock down. Jk now seriously don't buy the one that anyone tells you to buy. Go to the store play with both of them and pick the one you like. I got the Evo because first I hate touchwiz second the evo looks more professional and third the camera and beats audio are amazing. By the way beats by dre earbud are not that great for their price. I bought the Klipsch S4A and they are amazing. Good luck budy.

I agree with a few of these guys, go to the store and test both. Don't do or buy something based on others. I chose the evo because I've never had a Samsung phone I liked. I played around with the gsIII just to make sure I didn't want to trade my evo in for it, didn't like it too much but it is a nice phone.

Benchmarks dont mean a thing. If you are going to make your purchase based on benchmarks save yourself the headaches and just buy an iPhone.
( I kid, I kid)
But seriously, benchmarks dont matter
....why don't Asus follow suit and compete with them? Surely they have their customers' best interests at heart?
I'm probably way off the mark here, being an amoeba in the Android pond. Not trying to stir emotions, just interested if anyone has a view on this.

In most people's opinions who are big into Android, custom roms on every device work better. It's for a variety of reasons. One really big reason is because as developers and custom android enthusiasts we can take risks. As a developer, we can customize a really nice rom, build to suit the needs of most of our users. It's always a give and take. You can bump up clock speeds, tweak frequencies, etc. Our users want performance, so we take some from the battery life category and give to the performance category. Or maybe we are building a slim rom with amazing battery life that doesn't have nearly as much eye candy and has auto sync settings modified, etc.
Asus doesn't have that ability. They have to build one piece of software that does everything pretty good and not much perfect. They can't release an update, and three days later release another update, and then another. Most people who buy an Android device aren't custom rom enthusiasts and don't give a darn what version of Android they are running as long as it's working like they want it too.
So Asus has to do months of testing, and tweaking, and testing more before they release something. And then that one something has to try to satisfy their entire population of users. So a manufacturer can't take the same risks that developers take all the time, because they have way more on the line and are catering to a buyer group that is largely going to run bone stock and doesn't know what a rom or kernel is, and may get really mad if they have better performance and a faster loading browser but their screen goes black for a second when they rotate orientation. Or if the lock/unlock button doesn't work, they will write nasty reviews about how their update just to make a browser that worked before work a little better, took away features that they had before.
With us, one screwup, even a big one, can cause us to need to update the rom version and add a few lines to the change log. With a company like asus, it can cost them millions in warranty claims and RMA's. Personally, I'm with you. Asus should slap a wookie rom on the prime and HTC should throw a bamf rom on their phones from the start, and we would have MUCH better phones, and updates ready the day they're legally allowed to go public. But their's a lot more at stake when you have to worry about bottom lines, warranties, R&D, quality control, etc.
Then their is also sales and marketing that effect things. Lets say a company like Asus has a tablet like the prime. And they have the new tfp 800 set to go on sale with Jelly Bean and because of technology and cost limitations, it has slightly better battery life and a better screen than the prime, and other than that it's almost the same tablet. But, they've been advertising the tfp 800 as the first 10 inch quad core Official Jelly Bean tablet. The developers may have already finished the beta testing on the prime, but if they release jelly bean on the prime, 6 weeks before the big TFP 800, then they will make a bunch of their prime customers happy and realize there's not much difference. But if they weight two months to drop jelly bean, they will have a lot of prime owners that have heard all the great jelly bean hype and don't want to wait that will go out and buy the TFP 800 plus all these new potential customers that want jelly bean on a 10 inch tablet when it launches and so they are required to buy the new tfp800 from asus, where if they would have released a jelly bean update and fixed all the issues on the prime before the 800 launched, a lot of their potential customers would just buy a secondhand prime that had the jellybean update, or decided it wasn't a big deal since the prime had it a few months ago and not make that impulse buy, etc.
Well then I guess we won't be seeing this anytime soon.

Its a quite normal that custom ROMs work 'better' than stock roms
Problem in this case is: the stock rom is malfunctioning... users are forced to void warranty to fix it theirselves ....
why is asus not on the case?
I sure hope they are!!!
jellybean surprise around the corner, thats my guess ...

In my personal experience, most custom ROMs have bugs and other peculiarities that most average users wouldn't want to deal with on a day to day basis. I am not saying that there aren't some great ROMs out there, but I agree with CharliesTheMan in that no ROM is without its trade-offs and often those trade-offs.
hi, I'm looking to upgrade my photon to HTC EVO 4G LTE
does anyone here own both of the phone ?
and can you give me some inputs ?
what I'm really want to know is :
-voice quality / earpiece sound quality (the photon is the very good if its not the best ear piece on a phone that i have ever owned before)
-battery life ( i use seidio extended battery on my photon, so i want o know what to expect from the non removable battery of HTC)
-radio reception strenght ? (again the Photon is one of the best in this department as well)
i want to upgrade because :
-im tired of waiting for the ICS on the photon
-and though the seideio battery is awesome , but the bulk is quite noticeable
-and the photon screen is terrible IMHO (can't hurt to change to 720p 4.7" screen NON PENTILE)
actually i also considered the Samsung galaxy SIII but i've never been a fan of samsung, and to me their build quality is not so good, and the material used is feel kind of cheap
and also i hate the touch wizzz i've always been a fan of SENSE but because the EVO 3D have bad radio reception, then i bought the Photon, which is an awesome phone.
anyway , can please somebody gimme some inputs ?
thank you so much.
Another option that might be worth considering is the rumored LG phone, it suppose to have a quad core krait with 2gb ram also with new Adreno 320 gpu and is coming to sprint. Though it also depends on how you feel about LG.
But it eats benchmarks for breakfast, it effectively destroys even tablets.

I have not paid much attention to sense as I generally prefer stock ICS. But they still have not ported sense to other devices yet?
anyonne else?
I upgraded from a photon and I was on the HTC EVO 4G LTE. Switched to the galaxy S 3. Photon is by far has the best reception. Battery was Ok on the Evo. U can get 2 - 2 1/2 hours screen on time with normal use which is pretty much the average. Reception sucked and the gps was horrible. Sense was good but to be honest, kinda gets old like any launcher
The s3 is by far the better of the 2 in my opinion. Screen is not as crisp but I can get 4 hours + screen on time. Multi tasking works great and gps locks in less than 2 seconds and doesn't lose lock. Yes I'm referring to a Samsung phone with good gps lol. Best gps I've ever used on a phone.
Very worthy upgrade to the photon.
And touchwiz is polished unlike before. I actually like it better than sense. But it's all personal preference.

In the past:
processors were minimal (custom kernels and overclocking with CM helped fill in the gaps)
bloatware choked performance due to lack of space (CM eliminated bloatware)
GUI's were clunky and unintuitive (simplicity of CM, i.e. basic Android, was a necessity)
manufacturers added no value with their launchers and modifications (CM eliminated the manufacturer's oft ill conceived changes)
software updates lagged far behind Google updates.
And now:
processors work as is
space is plentiful, bloatware is not an issue
GUI's actually work
manufacturers are adding functionality
software updates are more current with Google changes.
So, I have to ask, what does CM bring to the table? When I put it on the Note 2, CM eliminated functionality without adding any improvements. I can't see where it would add anything to the Sony Xperia Ultra. I can see how it would take functionality away just like it did with the Note 2.
CM has redefined itself as an operating system. Its goal is to be the operating system for hardware manufacturers just like Android and Apple. Smart move. The CM we knew is no longer needed. Out of the box Samsung, HTC and Sony premium smart phones actually perform well, are being updated on a regular basis and have manufacturer added value. We have to think of CM as being the OEM operating system, not a replacement for Sony, Samsung and HTC Android operating systems.
CM is adding an app to the play store that will make it easy to install CM to devices. I see that as an acknowledgement to where it came from, not a step to its future. It will not be long before we buy Samsung, Sony and HTC phones with CM as the operating system.
I love Cyanogen. And is my point why I love android.
But unfortunately they trying to support many devices and they lose quality.
I remember how we was happy with G1 to see crazy benchmarking with Cyanogen., now it's lower than stock They said Sony is very friendly with the developers (source etc) but I remember Cyanogen on Xperia Z....it was bad experience I ever taste. And then it was a scandal with Samsung. They promise to stop supporting...... but as you see cyanogen is more business now than love.
And I know many developers who got same opinion as me.
But we still love them and we will love them.
While I agree with a lot of what you say... the note2 was very different. any device that has another piece of hardware that you use with it for a purpose, then CM wont work 'stand alone'. Samsung's note applications were great and thats where CM was left standing and waiting....
With the Ultra, it doesn't have any specific apps that take advantage of the 'sketch' application. There are loads that do the same, and even better on the playstore.
I can see CM being a clean neat feel. However it will need to be cleaner and smoother than the xperia UI for it to be a real advantage to flash.

I don't know, I prefer AOSP, so even if there's nothing else offered by CM, I'd still rather run it than Sony's ROM (not that this phone has a bad ROM; in fact, I've been surprisingly happy with it out of the box).
I'm not a fan of any manufacturer skin out there, so CM is what i flash when i want a "pure" and light ROM. It's all about looks and feel for me, and since CM is a barebone experience, i can make it my own from scratch. I have a Galaxy Note, and i've used CM on it for the past 15 months. I quickly noticed that i didn't use any of Samsung's bloatware or any other Samsung features, so why should i have to deal with it? Why should i let that crap run in the background? I'd rather just flash something that's completely "naked" from the start, and install and modify the things I WANT and need, not what Samsung want, or Sony, or HTC etc.
Granted, Sony isn't that bad when it comes to their custom skin. It's pretty light, and they haven't given Disco Stu a job as a UI designer (cough, Samsung), so i guess i'll keep my Ultra (soon to arrive) pretty stock in the beginning, and just install Nova when i've had enough of Sony's launcher. When i'm sick and tired of the whole Sony experience, i'll move on to CM.
CM of the past is gone?
i agree, because its moving to the future... cyanogenmod inc. ftw!
I do understand what the OP trying to say about the past. Because we needed so much modification to the software to make the phone run smoothly, and Android was very fragmented when it came to finding apps for your purpose. I had the HTC Desire PVT4, and my dad PVT1 with S-OFF and it was so much fun! This was when Android and the community was at it's best!
But today Android is more stable, it runs more independent, It's a lot faster. BUT what I get from it is the clean look, the speed and stability.
And I get my chance to customize my phone to my taste. Not how SONY want it, or HTC want it or how Samsung want to brag about their animations and proprietary apps. If someone tries to make a phonecall from my device, they can't..because they are not familiar to the look of my device and that's a good thing because I have a taste. I don't want the guy on the bus sitting next to me or behing me to have the exact same UI and wallpaper as me!!

Like my note 7 had so many features , such as place phone face down to silence call. Or keep phone screen on by looking at it etc. This phone just seems really barebones. Even tho it's very snappy. I think when note 8 comes around I'll switch. I wish I could get those aforementioned features

I like the Lg G5 massively over the note 7 just for the wide angle camera alone. Keeping the phone screen on while looking at it is possibly the worst gimmick ever.

I wish it did have the screen stay on feature when watching a video on Facebook or whatnot where you gotta move the screen once in a while to stop it from dimming. Yeah the note 7 was a failure and it also was a slow phone (Snapdragon model) but this phone having the same chip runs a lot better. Must be better optimized. The note 7 cam does beat the main cam on this phone tho, it also took HDR pics super fast. Pros and cons to everything.

No, I love the G5
Let's get this clear the G5 has the face down silence option, and if it's packed with features, u just have to look for them in the settings, and beside all that the wide angle lens is the most innovative camera feature ever on a smartphone, what would u do if u had a pixel ?
Coming from Motorola, Lenovo, and Huawei phones, and just looking at stock settings on the G5, I'm pretty impressed by what LG included. Just to be able to change global font and theme without root would've been revolutionary to me not that long ago. Granted, the LG store is relatively young/limited -and I've no idea where it will go- but it's a promising starting point. 360 wideangle live wallpaper with wideangle camera lens to make your own (eventually), drag-and-drop touch button settings, multiwindow, shortcut key commands, as small a detail as battery percentage preference... Many of these things we're used to as root mods, and in that sense they may be boring, but to have them as part of the stock basis makes me look forward to expansions of customization in the not-too-distant future, if not by LG in their store, then by the enthusiasts in this realm. It's encouraging, far from boring!
