I downloaded the Google Edition ROM last night and somewhere it went wrong. Now when I try to reboot, the yellow triangle comes on and I can only get back to the this ROM. Here is what it says:
System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest Verizon Wireless store for help.
I want to go back to the stock 4.2.2. How do I do that, thanks.
Mine or nitro's? And what did you flash AFTER the GE rom? Was it a kernel? Where did you get it?
That message only comes up if you foul up a kernel install or recovery install.
Both are fixable by an MDK stock kernel Odin package. I'm not linking it because it's in the how to root topic. So if you are here, you should already have it.

It was yours. It must be the kernel install. I'll search for MDK stock kernel.

Yes, each time I try to reboot, the same error comes up and I can't go further.
try pulling the battery. Put it back in. Hold volume up and power until it vibrates and then let go of power but continue holding volume up until you see the blue text in the left hand corner.
See what recovery it boots into, or if it even does.

I'd boot into download and just flash the mdk kernel. It'll fix it up.
I'm just curious as to what happened. Did you verify the md5 on the ROM?

So I am having a similar issue. I accidentally flashed a non-loki'd recovery. Now I am trying to figure out a way to install a loki'd recovery but cant figure it out. I need an odin tar of something... I may just go back to the stock mdk build and start from scratch with root.
I just can't flash any ROM at all, I can't even do a factory reset.

No one can help you unless you provide enough useful information about what you have done. You should have read and learned enough to avoid making a mistake in the first place, but if you will tell us what you have done, maybe you'll get some help. What exactly did you flash with Odin? Provide a link to it? You did not get the warning on boot from flashing stock. What method did you use to try to enter download mode? To try to enter Recovery?

That's not a galaxys2root produced file. That is the straight stock Kies file which they downloaded from SamFirmware or Samsung Updates. That didn't cause the problem.
You say you can now not enter either download mode or recovery?
Don't do a wipe data with that installed if you do get into recovery!

I'm not sure why your phone is having problems. You should be able to just flash stock and start over. If it were my phone, I would flash UCKH7 stock plus root, install a Gingerbread custom kernel, and then pick a firmware from the development forum. If you choose to follow that path, be sure to open the Oden window first before putting your phone into download mode. If you need additional information, there is plenty of help in the guides and threads linked in my signature.

Did you flash a custom kernel and then flash a new rom?
I have a backup of my stock rom from when I got the phone and I would like to restore that back but it won't let me. When in recovery and I hit restore I get "E:Can't mount /sdcard" so I try advanced restore and then I get "E:Can't mount sdcard" and finally I tried restore from internal sdcard and then I get an error saying "Couldn't open directory. No files found." bearing in mind I don't have any sd card inserted but it's how I always used to do it. So I tried going to mounts and storage then mounting the sd card from there but get an error saying "Error mounting /sdcard!".
What do I do please?

It's the only recovery I have, but how would I go about re flashing it? Just put it in a .zip or something?
have you tried looking for another recovery or looking into the android development for your phone.
shouldnt be that hard to put one on, in fact if it becomes that hard, it should only be as hard as running a few ADB commands. look for one that you like and check out the instructions

No , hes talking about kernel. You need to try a different kernel (they include cwm recovery).
Flash the kernel/recovery you used when backing up the rom.

I can't even remember what kernel I was using back then. It was 2 years ago now.
I'm not sure if it's all worth it, I'm only recycling it at the O2 store for money, does it matter? Is installing custom roms illegal? Because my only worry is them testing it by turning it on or something and seeing that I'm running cMIUI.

Dude don't worry and that phone is worth the fix. As far as I c it you don't even have it that bad. What atheist said is correct.
All you need to do is look for a recovery / kernel that most of the time come together and flash it. Just read the instructions on that post.
After all you're in the right place to get your phone hooked up and fixed whenever u have problems. Don't be nervous about it. Unless u want a new phone lol.

If youre selling it i wouldnt worry about keeping it rooted unless that was one of the selling.points. yes you can also use the stock rooted mdk rom as well but it cant be flashed via odin it has to be flashed via recovery. But once again I would odin to return it to out of the box software.

Yea, it was one of the selling points, the fact that it was MDK and already rooted. Anyway, I just tried flashing the stock rooted file through TWRP and it didn't work. I did a battery pull, then booted into the regular recovery, did another factory reset, and was finally able to boot back into android. Then I was able to follow all of the root/recovery steps. Finally got it sorted out!!!!! Thanks to everyone who helped me, its silly, but it helped that I didn't feel stranded with this thing. XDA is the best!
In error I attempted to flash a ROM with ROM installer thinking it would use Safety Strap as the recovery. I wrong I was! I got an error saying to take my phone to the nearest Verizon store. I wasnt too worried because I have used Odin to flash the stock image. But this time it didnt work. I have an error message saying to use Kies in recovery mode and try again... I tried that, cant find the SN and Kies cant see the phone fully.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Thanks in advance!

I think you used the wrong file... if you were going to use Safe Strap then that means you were probably on ME7 or MI1. MDK phones have the bootloader exploit and custom recoveries, thus negating the need for Safe Strap.

I did try this with the same results... Any other else I should try? Any way to get the SN number for the phone? With the SN I could try to use Kies to flash firmware?
Thanks,

Do you know what version you had originally? MDK or, ME7?
I went to upgrade to the new hyperdrive since they sent me the ota. Phone has been acting weird so I was going to do a complete wipe. I took my sd card out which my son took and lost on me and OI can find anywhere. I had another card so d/l new hyperdrive onto other card. I went to wipe cache and install new rom. phone wiped data and now wouldnt install new rom. I dont remember all the build I was on on the phone but I had Hyperdrive 16 before I started this if that helps at all. I am stuck on samsung custom boot screen. I can get into odin recovery and tried recovery but keeps failing. can I get some help I need my phone i have to go to work soon. Thanks
ive tried the rootjunky video with both no wipe and full wipe neither worked. odin failed.

What files are you trying to flash? Did you use Safestrap to install RLS16?
Sent from my NCC-1701 using Tapatalk.
i had downloaded the new update for hyper drive. Right now my biggest probelm is I cannot get past the splash screen. I can get into download mode though so can we try to figure out how to unbrick me first. Download mode is the only thing I can seem to get into right now

That's why I need to know if you used Safestrap as your recovery. It's very likely you're trying to flash the wrong file with Odin.
If you had Safestrap your build wasn't MDK. If you didn't need Safestrap then your build was MDK.
So I'll ask again, what file are you trying to flash, with Odin, that keeps failing?

NO!!! You cannot flash the MDK file, you cannot downgrade the S4! Always ends badly, go to the general section and grab the NC5 full-wipe tar and flash with ODIN.

I have tried that from SUrge1223. That did not work for me. I cannot get in to my phone to re root it. Is that the right file the one from him?

From here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735172. I would choose the "Full Wipe" version. Make sure you have a good download. Check MD5. Make sure you follow the directions for Odin. If you verify all of that, and it still doesn't work, I'm afraid I won't be any more help. Someone with more knowledge than I have will have to step in. Good luck.

I can vouch for the full Version. Saved my bacon.
You have to boot the phone into a special mode that will allow ODIN to funtion
Turn off the SGS4 and boot it into Download/Odin Mode: press and hold the Volume Down, Home and Power buttons simultaneously for a couple of seconds till you see a warning screen. Then press Volume Upkey to enter Download Mode.
I got it!!! Found my Samsung cable and all went well. TY for ALL the help!

Yeah, it is a really good feeling when that ODIN starts to run like it means it. Nothing beats that first boot up!
