Hi XDA. I did post a topic to do with the same handset but I've requested for it to be deleted as I'm going to post all the current details on my handset and the status of it, just so it's easier to look at the problems.
Modes the phone can run in: Fastboot, System Recovery and USB-MS toggle.
Through backup and restore, nothing works, requests everything through ADB despite having tried that also. Flashing new ROMs after wiping the phone and SD entirely doesn't work, it still gets stuck in the loop no matter what ROM I use.
I have extracted the ROM and system/boot.img's from an Orange RUU via and tried installing the rom and the img files separately but the ROM came up as "bad" and I don't know how to use the .img as they don't come up. I think if I flashed the fresh boot and system images it might work, but that's just me. I have also tried installing the RUU from fastboot, but that doesn't work either, it just searches for images and reverts to the fastboot menu with no indication for the RUU install. I've tried wiping the SD and using a fresh SD and still nothing, still looping.
I'm at my wits end with this and I don't want to have to sell it faulty if it's fixable or "not" bricked..
Its not bricked, if it was then nothing would happen at all.
Although I have never heard of this problem before and the only possible solution i can think of is to connect try and update to the official ROM, which would remove your root access and most likely not let you root again, but this is still better than having a non-working hero.
Hope you find a solution

Good to know it's not bricked, it means that it CAN be fixed somehow.
I have said in the post that I can't get into Android at all expect the boot modes and USB-MS toggle. This means I can't get into sync to install an RUU, which I couldn't do before anyway. I have extracted the ROM from an official RUU but that and the sys.img and boot.img won't flash either. The .img files don't even show, since you can only flash .zip files.
Thanks anyway!
Sorry guys, i need to bump this... :-(
Any suggestions?

I'm not sure I 100% understand the problem you are having here. I guess you are trying to root essentially, since you are trying RUUs and zips (whilst rooting might not be your end goal, it sounds like you're trying to just now).
Make a gold card, and use the HEROIMG.zip method to flash the ROM.zip out an RUU. At work so can't explain fully, but search on these terms for help.
It's already rooted, it's just stuck in a boot loop, and I can get into the states I mentioned above. And I've tried a few ROMs off here and that doesn't seem to work. Tried extracting the ROM from an official RRU as well, which is why I mentioned it.

When you hold Home and Press power do you get into the recovery screen?
Which recovery screen have you got installed?
Have you waited more than 5 minutes for a new ROM to load the first time?
Have you run logcat and watched the output whilst it is loading a fresh rom?
Have you wiped everything before flashing the rom's update.zip?
I get into recovery, I have RA Hero installed on it. And it's sat for over 5 minutes..

You have two options, leave it for an hour and see if it boots. Make sure you do a full wipe and then flash VillainROM or another established ROM. Don't use any beta's or alpha builds.
Alternatively you can get a logcat report going and post that up.
I'll try the first option when I finish work, I'll try Villain as it's what the Hero had on it before this happened.
Are there any guides to doing a logcat report? I tried doing, one once but I didn't seem to get much out of the instructions I was given. Thanks for your help so far .

there is info on setting up adb. Then do "adb logcat > logfile.txt" and send logfile.txt
Anon I'll try that at the weekend sometime when I get a chance.
Btdag I left the Hero on until it died, nothing but the Hero screen. Guess I need to bump here again once logcat is done..

I am getting some where I successfully got the update zip to run by plugging in a externel sdcard and loading it to the root of the sdcard file system.
But now the error is 'E: Prohibit update as a result of checking version or base sku'
'Installation aborted.

If you flashed the untouched official ICS update, you will not be able to downgrade until you have root again. Unfortunately, there is no known root exploit for ICS on this tablet.
I have don't have much to do atm do I am going to continue trying

We need an answer, will it be possible to root the official ICS?
I'm thinking about taking my tab to service to ask them to revert it to HC, even if I have to pay & then root to upgrade to prerooted ICS, wt do u think? Will they do it?

I am going to try work with a program my friend showed me called mercury downloadable from here (I would put the link here but it's not letting me just google mercury-v1.0 framework) from my understanding it's a bit like adb but for hacking
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA Premium HD app
Ok today didn't go as planned I couldn't get mercury working the computer was not connecting to the device if someone else would like to try please post ur results here other wise,
I need idea's any idea's on how to get this to work crazy, silly, and brilliant idea's they r all welcome I have a silly one which I'll like to share and two questions as well.
Idea connect the flash memory of the device to a USB memory stick then access the memory of the device like it's a memory stick then u can easily access root files or install root but it's desperate and silly and because the way the memory is placed on the board of the device their is no where to connect it to the memory stick.
Question 1 the command adb reboot reboots the device right but adb shell "reboot" requires root so is it possible to use the same privileges that let u run adb reboot to do root things.
Question 2 the system wipe wipes the /data file right if u could change it to wipe the /system file then u remove the system removing the problem of trying to flash the older system than the one on the device but to contradict my own question the device does the wiping in recovery mode which we can not change atm :-(.

That a good idea but Sony's locked any access to the bootloader well that's as far as I know and on top of that I think u need a unlocked bootloader which they's a project to do that atm but no progress yet

I am going into a private project now but the last progress I made is if u try to root the tablet as if it's a motorota defy then it runs as if there is no problem but at the end of the process that freeze and device needs to restarted because if u run adb devices u get (device name) offline it is mean to restart the adb automatically then if u run adb shell it should be in root it's not :-(
Anyway I hope at someone else can pick up this project I shall check in every so often and help if I can good luck I need this too.

Idont know how to brick but if u tried take care of :
8. I've bricked my device! What can I do?
- As long as your 'region.zip' file is not damaged, then for 99% your tab can be fixed.
Firstable try to flash this 3.2.1r2 firmware.
In most cases it works. If it will fail then:
1. Boot into RECOVERY;
2. Try to flash the update again - it will fail - thats ok;
3. Wait for 2-3min to get adb available;
4. Use 'adb pull /tmp';
5. Post your recovery.log and region.prop files.

This sounds really stupid but it is like i say:
To brick your device, you must have a rooted tab
+ If it it will work without root then you must make shure that you don't ruïn
your Region.zip, b'cause that means you're lost even more, Sadly enough
i recently unlocked and rooted my htc one max (Verizon) U.S....and I must have done something bad, cause now it fires up, but I have a message popping up saying my system UI has stopped working. I have searched all over my phone and can't even find a recovery...please help...and yes, I am a noob, so, sorry if this is a dumb situation..thanks
Since you're unlocked, you could go over to the bootloader and flash a recovery. After that sideload a rom and your recovery will do the rest!
You need to install a custom recovery so you can backup your phone for such problems. I hope it helps.

Good evening yall, I have serious problem with my Droid DNA and need some help bad.
A couple days ago I noticed that my phone kept losing service so I researched it on Google and found out it could be something with the Sim card, easy to fix by getting a new one. I also read somewhere that it could be something that can be fixed with reboot and re flash of my ViperDNA Sense5 2.5.2. So I made a recovery and wiped the data off my phone with CWM, after re-flashing and rebooting into the rom I tried to use the Viper Authentication Wizard but wasn't able to complete because of the faulty SIM. I kept re-flashing and recovering with CWM for a couple more times still and on some boots the signal would return but I couldn't make calls because the error "android.process.system not responding".
I've tried to flash the Radios and Ruu back to stock and flash a stock rom but now it boots to a black screen with the status bar.
Please help I can't use my phone!!
I rebooted the phone while it was activating using the Activation Wizard in ViperDNA rom and relocked the boot-loader also which I think made more problems.
I've also used adb and fastboot commands and got a new SIM from Verizon, yesterday I flash cm10 and was able to receive a couple text messages before I lost service again. Since then everything I do doesn't work need some assistance.
Boot-loader screen says this
Unlocked
Monarudo PVT ship S-Off RH
CID-22222222
Hboot-1.54
Radio-1.01.01.1112
OS-3.06.605.4
Is the sim card not being detected at all? If that's the case one suggestion I can make before you go for a replacement or some other route is getting a new sim tray from HTC. Htc made a thicker tray and I got it a while ago and since then I have not had any issues with my sim card. If you contact them and tell them they will send it to you free or charge. I would try that. This sounds like a hardware issue not so much a software version.

So I was able to flash ViperDNA with twrp-beta but now it doesn't actually boot just stuck in the booting animation.
By flashing my recovery to the one on Viper page would that erase my previous recovery? And would my signal return?

So I see you have done lots to your phone and the original post said you had this and that what is your current radio and hboot? If you went back to the original stock then did you moonshine and unlock your bootloader again? I hate to say this but I had a dna that suffered from this and I had to replace the whole board, the top one, which was 65$ but if you are handy with solder you could do it for I think six. Anyways, current info please.
Try the ruu first. Then if it still doesn't boot it's hardware related.

if this was my phone i would be a lot calmer, but this is her only phone, and she uses it for business. the samsung rooting is a million times easier, and without a single problem. i have done dozens of them, and NEVER had any issues. i don't understand why htc makes you do the bootloaded, which is a monster process all to its own, and then puts you through so many trials and tribulations to complete the root. when i root a samsung, all the information is still thereso i assumed it would be the same on any android device. as you can imagine, i am bugging to lose her all her info.

Well since it was updated you need a rom that is built on the new layout. The link I have you is for a rom that should work fine for you. It is sense 5.5 and personally I love it. Hopefully your friend will too. Just dl and flash. Also you need a modified twrp recovery from Captain_Throwback.

Either of the twrps listed in this thread should work. Fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img. personally I would rename the recovery to either twrp or recovery and make sure it is in the same folder as the fastboot files. Or if you are s-off put in a zip fodder after renaming to recovery.img

ok, i got them. i'll go give it a shot. i really appreciate all the help, i'll hit your thanks bar many times.
update: i hit your thanks bar for every post you made in this thread. thanks again. hope it all works.
man, i can't believe i went through all the things i went through, and i am right back in the same boat i was this afternoon. i renamed and flashed the custom recovery. i then flashed the rom, and when it looked like it was doing everything right, and starting to load the rom, it took me right back to the prompt "Decrypt Storage". type password to decrypt storage.
30 attempts remain before device data is deleted.
how can i get past this thing? i wiped everything there was to wipe on this phone.

Reflash recovery again. Or try a different one from captains thread.

@Captain_Throwback, you got any insight for this particular situation?

i got so mad about the decrypt thing popping back up, that i went into wipe and did a full "format data". now the decrypt message is gone, but the phone will not recognize the internal sd card. the only place it shows up is in advanced wipe area, and i can wipe it individually, but in the other areas of the phone, it doesn't show up. for instannce, if i try to usb mount, there is no internal card, so it will not show anything. so how do i get this internal sd card back? i can't flash anything right now because it isn't recognized.
two other questions, should the int sd card be formatted in fat32 or exfat? and is the rom you gave me odexed or deodexed?
UPDATE: so i finally decided to use the root folder to flash the older twrp, and it worked. then i was able to see the internal folder again. so i tried to reload the supersu, and rom you suggested, but when it loaded up, it took me right back to the "decrypt storage" message. so i tried to reload the newer twrp, you suggested, and the int sd card is not recognized again. so i am guessing i have a lot of miss matched software on this phone, and maybe that is the reason i am getting this message. any idea how to determine exactly which ones are out of place? in the mean time, i googled the decrypt storage message, and many people have been through this also, but i haven't seen a fix. so i will go back to your friends site, and try the other twrp for now.
UPDATE2: i just decided to relock the bootloader, and ruu it back to original. i hope this works. i was able to relock the bootloader, and i am in the middle of ruu'ing it now.
UPDATE3: yeah, i've got it back up. so glad to get this thing running again. i wish i had of understood what you meant by ruu before, i would have saved myself a lot of grief.
the fact that, while setting things up for the first time, this phone will not let you skip accounts, and just get into your phone is crap. you should be able to set the accounts up at your whim. and even if you try to set a new account up with htc, the code the phone gives you, will not work on the htc site. even if you keep generating a new code on the phone, the site will not take it. what the hell is that? this entire experience with this phone makes me appreciate having a samsung much, much, much more than ever before. htc needs to get their head out of their ass, and stop making everything so difficult.
Based on a quick read on this thread, the problem appears to have been an incomplete update to the new layout. The HBOOT got updated, but the image doesn't appear to have been flushed again to update the data and system partitions fully, and then the ROM booted to ensure everything was initialized properly. That would be the way to fix it going forward.
Also, you can skip through all of the account setup stuff in the ROM - I'm not sure what you mean about that .
