[Q] Restore Samsung Galaxy YP-GS1 (North American) with Heimdall - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

My son's Samsung Galaxy YP-GS1 (North American version, with capacitive home button) got stuck in the boot loop. I have been attempting to restore it, using the images located here: tau(dot)shadowchild(dot)nl/attn1/?p=166. Unfortunately, we're a Linux household (no hablamos Windows), so I've been attempting to flash them with Heimdall. However - I keep running into an issue stating that 'firmware.xml' is missing from the package. From there, I've had any number of issues.
I've viewed the Heimdall video tutorial located here: www(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?v=6TgyaUbjcm4, but I don't seem to have the right files, based on what I'm seeing in the tutorial; it just untars to a '*.img' file.
Help?

Go to the library and use a Windows computer.

US Cellular 4G galaxy tab 10.1 root?

I have a sgt 10.1 running 3.2 and I want to root it. Its a 3g/4g tablet.
I downloaded the file I need to flash in stock recovery but i can't seem to get to stock recovery. I have tried every button combination in the world.
any other ideas? Please help.

You could try rooting it by the Odin method. Flash CWM from droidbasement.

well I have a issue getting into fastboot and/or recovery for that matter. from what i understand from the root/unlocking topics i must hold the vol. button while powering on the device. that doesnt work. i dont get any fastboot or recovery options at all.
My power button is located on the left side of the device and the volume buttons are directly below it. From the topics i read, the buttons are in a different location than that of the guides?
on the back of my tab my model shows to be:
SCH-I905/u
any help would greatly be appreciated. im not a noob by any means as i have rooted/hacked all of my android phones and tablets in the past but this SGT is getting the best of me for some reason.
OK. Guess no one has any helpful information?
Sent from my SCH-R760 using Tapatalk 2
Maybe this is an obvious question, but, did you try with the different combinations?
Pwr+vol down, then "vol up" to confirm selection or "vol down" to change it.
Pwr+vol up, then "vol down" to confirm selection or "vol up" to change it.
If you can get into download mode, download this recovery (select your tab model) and flash it with Odin, it has the keys fixed: http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=2553
finally i got it!
BUT, here lies the issue now.. i have the rolling recovery issue that i see spread around the forum.
I odin the recovery for the vzw i905 LTE CWM 5.5 from droid basement.
is there a different recovery i need to use?
again.

And what was the solution?
Have you tried this solution? (adapting the files to your model) [answer #7]: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642009
I had to press volume up and power. At the very moment the splash screen appears, release the power button.
As for the rolling fix... i was afraid to flash the fix due to it looking to be for a different model. Not the I905 with LTE. :-\

Maybe a combination of what this user did (and the quoted text): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26940676&postcount=412
so you think i should flash this file BOOTLOADER_P7510JPKG6_CL429994.tar.md5 even though it appears to be for a totally different tab?
i cant seem to find any stock files for a I905 :-/
btw, i really appreciate your help
Check this RootzWiki forum, they have all the stock files and other guides for your tab (maybe you can check that before trying something else): http://rootzwiki.com/forum/172-galaxy-tab-101-lte-development/
Also, in this thread are some stock files for your tab: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195861&page=2
Because I don't have the same model of your tab, I can't test anything, just point you to some info that seems reasonable.
In any case, if something goes wrong, you can go back to stock with those files. Remember to backup your data.
If you want, when someone helps you, click "thanks" in the post.

Q. How to root Galaxy Note I717 with linux?

Hello new to the Galaxy Note thread. Just wondering if there's a way to root using linux. I checked the everything thread idk maybe I missed it also googled it. Zedomax from high on Android is supposed to making a video tut. Only thing I can think of is dual booting with the free Windows 8 preview or virtual box then using Odin. Any suggestions?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Can you run a virtual windows machine with linux? You need to be able to flash a pre-rooted rom, so you have to use Samsung's software called Odin3.
Think im just gonna dual boot and use Odin with the Windows 8 to root Note. The wife wants itunes for her tiny iphone 4s anyways.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
There you go. The wife wins.
Go to the Super Everything page. Look under the big green arrow in the first post. A quick outline of what you might do:
1. install drivers
2. install odin (1.85)
3. put phone in download mode
4. connect phone to pc
5. flash rom (pda slot)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30998892
Windows 8 won't install because my cpu doesn't have ability to enable nx. Found Windows 7 free trial gonna try that. They say heimdale could work just have to extract files from the ones used for Odin modify and install. I would try but i want to make sure i have Odin as back up in case something went wrong. Could be useful to those who just use Linux like I do. Hmm..Maybe I can use files from n7000 as reference they have a heimdale setup.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Heimdal - that's a program I haven't used in years. But yes, if you untar any rom you can go that way.
Just be super careful and label the N7000 files - the only way to brick this phone is by mistakenly flashing another phone's rom onto yours ( it has happened three times recently).

in heimdall i have the .pit and zimage do you have a link to a complete rom with cwm i can flash with heimdall
im lost now this is my hardest cwm yet
First of all, the default tab heimdall shows you is not the one you'll be using most often (that's only for heimdall created packages). You want the tab labelled Flash.
Secondly, in Heimdall, you actually have to choose which components you're flashing. This is easier than it sounds as most files include the component somewhere in the file name (i.e. rfs, sbl, etc.). zimage files usually contain a kernel, so you'd select Kernel from 'partition name' box, then click add. Rom images are usually distributed as file archives (zip, tar, md5, etc.) with the actual components compressed inside them.
But before you can select a component, you have to point it to your PIT file,

[Q] Used p4vzw/sch-i905 cannot be modified

I received this verizon Galaxy Tab 10.1 as a gift and a project, but haven't been able to make any progress.
The tablet was bought from a taxi company that used it was in car entertainment. When booted, an app immediately starts up and removes the navigation bar. If you are fast enough, you can get to the settings and uninstall this app before it starts, or what I have found to be easier, just use shell commands to hit home and uninstall while the app tries to regain control.
The table is currently running 3.2, and cannot update over wifi, nothing happens.
Root was gained by an unknown method, but the SU app won't open up. I can access su through the shell however.
I have tried flashing a cwm recovery through ODIN which says is successful but if it is booted straight to the recovery it is still stock.
Flashing ROM's through ODIN appear to be successful, but just boots right back to the original rom and recovery.
Adding anything to the SD card or anywhere else accessable to the stock recovery does not work either because the SD card is reformatted to the original contents every time.
This also occurs with any apps that are installed, each one is removed when rebooted except for SU. And Rom Manager FC's when CWM is attempting to flash.
nvflash will not work either because the bootloader is locked.
I don't know much about the boot sequence for android, but I looked for any init. files that are out of the ordinary and cannot find anything.
I'm giving this tablet away when I finally figure it out, I just want to fix it. Any help would be awesome and let me know if I've left something out.
Even if no one has any specific suggestions, can someone post a PIT file for a SCH-i905? I have seen the stock firmware that can be flashed through ODIN but it does not stick on my unit.
Thanks!
Excuse my English but my original language is Spanish.
The default verizon tablet brings in recovery an option that reloads the original recovery. If units installed CWM via Odin must access the recovery option (Vol +) on 1st boot and enter the option to leave cmw (reboot) will give you the option of not recovering the recovery.
The other alternative is to flash via odin the original software look it by google "PDA_HC31_EG01Ba_AP352081user_CP1033580_LTE20110704_0708"
in this case the tab stay with the factory version.
if the team does not have SIM must type top left - top right - bottom left, bottom right and then vol + to unlock.
good look
This is the post that you are needing.

i had the same problem but pulling the sim and unlocking as mentioned above helped a lot then went through the whole rooting process through odin and have not had any issues with anything reverting back to stock. only issue now is not very many roms for our model "bummer" all in all still a good droid tablet for what i paid lol if you still havent got it going let me know and i will give you all the directions and steps i used
I have tried installing PDA_HC31_EG01Ba_AP352081user_CP1033580_LTE2011070 4_0708 through Odin3.
I do boot directly into recovery after installing CWM, the stock recovery still persists. I have tried several times because I know sometimes it does not stick.
I have also tried flashing the factory image linked in that xda post "[ROM]EG01 - Factory STOCK ODIN Image - VZW LTE Tab 10.1".
Boots right back up and starts the same taxi cab show case media software it normally does.
One thing I did not note in the first post. I do have root access when the tablet is booted into the os, but I do not when the tablet is in recover. I dont know if this is unusual or not.
I can also install busy box, but have yet to find out his would be useful.
I also do not have access to nvflash, but I think this is normal because the bootloader is not unlocked.

Awesome, I'll give this a go when I get home.
Was there a p4vzw twrp version some where in those links?
Looks like all of the ones referenced were 3g and wifi only.
Sidenote: I don't care if I keep 4g functionality or not, I will only be using this for wifi, if that makes fixing the problem any easier.

I was able to find the thread, thanks!
After downloading the odin flashable twrp, I tried first with Odin3, but it failed. Then I flashed with JOdin, this first pulled a PIT file from the tab then failed to repartition. If I ran it without repartitioning it said it was sucessful, but if I boot straight into recovery the stock android recovery still comes up.
I have a way to get a pit file now though, so that's nice.

[Q] Galaxy player 4.0 YP-G1 touch function not working after flashing

To start, I am a newb and my sincerely apologizes for my ignorance.
I bricked my YP-G1 player trying to flash a kit kat rom on it.
At this point I bought a jig and restored it with odin.
The current problem -
No touch functions work. All the hard buttons work fine but the touch screen does nothing along with the back and home button, etc.
At one point I had it working with the touch screen almost as if it was inverted in regard to accepting the input.
Did I do something that fried the hardware or is this a software issue. I greatly appreciate your guys help.
The last things I did to get it working:
I used a jig to get to download mode then Odin to flash one of the many roms available (including stock)
I tried custom kernels like steve's and also no luck
Please help

Hi there,
I used Heimdall 1.4.0 on windows 7. I tried all the attempts with heimdall to get the drivers with zadig.exe, etc. I was was able to detect the device but get this:
Heimdall v1.4.0
Initialising connection...
Detecting device...
ERROR: Failed to access device. libusb error: -12
The furthest I get anywhere is doing the following:
Using Odin3 v1.85
I check Re-partiation, autoreboot, and f. reset time. Then I use the Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0 U.S. 8gb.pit pit file found on forum. I flash the YPG1USRestoreOdin.tar.md5 by clicking under the PDA section.
This gets me to boot with the samsung logo and little chime. Then I go all the way through and boot to the OS. At that point no touch functions work at all, including the menu button, home screen or back button.
So i was thinking, is it a kernel issue? Does the kernel tell the touch screen to work?
So then I go back to download mode by taking out battery and placing it back in with a jig
Now i flash steve's kernal (STevEs-3.0-USA.tar) successfully and still no touch functions
SO THEN:
Instead I try STeVEs-3.0-EU.tar kernel and I get touch functions that are not mapped correctly.
That is the best that I have been able to get it to function.
Please help

I don't use heimdall 1.4.0 because I find it a bit too complicated. I guess you can try following my instructions found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51762484, since you have a Galaxy Player 4.0 (YP-G1) and see if that lets you get the drivers installed correctly. I can't comment on if it controls touch screen controls, but why did you need to use a USB jig to go back to download mode?
Hi there,
I did exactly what you recommended. Successfully reinstalled OS however same issue, touch does nothing. I cant seem to boot into recovery so thats why have have been using the jig to go into download mode to reflash stuff. I just dont understand... when I used a different custom kernel I only had the ability to use the touch function in a weird way, it appeared as though it was inverted.... If you have any other thoughts please let me know. I thank you for your help already.

Wow that is weird. Have you tried using the other 2 kernels for our player, which are Klin's R3 and Terraailent? I find it odd that the EU kernel gave that back. Also it seems that your recovery is damage, even though that flash with heimdall should have fixed it. Try flashing one of the other kernels and then try flashing one of the latest kikkat builds.

Well depends on the variant of his device. If it's the US version, then it could be possible that good digitizer might have been inverted. Though I don't recommend it, in last resort the intl bootloaders could be used to restore completely the device. In this case it is possible that he won't have access to the recovery by the three finger method anymore.
