[Q] Philz kernel help~ - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys
I just install Philz kernel on my GT-9100 4.1.2 XWLSD, its pretty smooth .
So, how do I actually backup my rom and kernel by using this Philz kernel and install Biftor rom ?
Seem complicated in backup, i'm sorry, i'm new here.

Read the PhilZ thread (search; it's all there).

Hey there, I'm using 4.1.2 JB on my GT-I9100. The baseband version is I9100XXLS8 and the build number is I9100XWLSD.
So, if I wanted to install the Biftor V10 rom and the version is only for XWLSW . Will my Samsung GT-I9100 support it ( XWLSW ) ?
Regards,
Thank you very much,
Have a great day.

XWLPG is 4.0.3. So it is safe ROM. Why you want to jump to risky ROM?
Neat ROM is stable but you need to use with kernel like siyah, dorimax or speedmod . Don't use stock kernel.
But since neat rom have siyah kernel, i can say it is safe (not 100% guaranteed).

NeatRom lite is already using Siyah kernel and is 100% safe. Before spreading wrong info, you could have just visited NeatRom thread instead.

NeatRom lite XWLPX, uses Siyah kernel and it's therefore 100% safe.
It's very stable too.

[Q] question: upgrading to jellybean 4.1

hi all, found out about this new android update and i was wondering, what i needed to do before upgrading to jelly bean,
i have this android: samsung galaxy s2 GT-I9100
version 2.3.6
baseband I9100XXKL1
kernel [email protected]#66
build number: ChekROM RevoHD v6
im on gingerbread and they have different android version;so im confused, if i could just directly flash this new rom( you may recommend any JB roms too ^^).
thanks in advance!
0. Backup SMS, contacts and do a factory reset
1. Flash stock 4.0.x to your phone
2. Flash newest Siyah Kernel
3. Flash Jellybean ROM.
you may recommend any JB roms too

1. Backup your data:
- Download call logs backup & restore, to backup your call logs
- Download sms backup & restore, to backup your sms
- Download bookmarks backup, to backup your bookmarks
- to backup your contacts, a)sync them with Google or b) export contacts to SD card or c) download contacts backup & restore to backup contacts
- use titanium backup to backup apps + data or use Es file explorer to backup apps (apk only)
2. perform a Nandroid backup
3. Download a custom stock based ICS 4.0.3 ROM
4. Flash ROM via CWM recovery following these steps:
- boot to CWM recovery
- wipe data/factory reset
- format /system (under mounts and storage)
- flash ROM
- reboot phone
5. There is no need to flash any custom kernel again as custom stock based ROMs are already using one
6. You already know that ROM recommendation is forbidden on XDA. So,
- Visit the thread of the Rom if you're choice,
- follow all the download and flashing instructions on the first post.
## This is exactly how I've helped a lot of friends with a rooted gingerbread device upgrade to ICS/JB
Good luck

1. are you referring to this ROM? if yes, then no problem, you can flash it.
2. You don't need to flash any custom kernel, the Omega Rom uses CF- root already. I said it in my point no 5, in previous post

- Omega ROM clearly states ICS (Ice cream Sandwich) 4.0.3 XWLPG. Do no you are not in JB. You will still need to upgrade to Jellybean after flashing Omega ROM

yes yes what i meant was after flashing Omega Rom, my SGS2 GTI9100 is ready to be flashed with jellybean rom.
anyway, i already flashed Omega Rom v15, NOW my phones' description is:

android version 4.0.3
baseband version I9100XXLPX
kernel version: [email protected]#3
build number Omega v15 - XWLPG
i thought according to ROM's decription my kernel should be CF-root LPG or are they the same? should i flash a different kernel before upgrading to jellybean?
i saw this cool JB rom PARANOIDANDROID v2.1
ill just follow their instructions on how to install it right?
i saw this on samsung galaxy s2 GTI9100 threads so, ill assume that this is compatible wiht my device...
sorry for asking too many questions, i just wanted to make sure and hear from your expertise before proceeding

Should I install XWLS8 or XWLSD ?

Hi ,
I am from India, I am planning to move from 4.0.4(XSA - Australian (unbranded)) to 4.1.2 for my Galaxy S2.
As of now, we have two stock ROMs available XWLS8 and XWLSD - which one is best ROM to download ?
Are there any new enhancements in XWLSD?
Also, pls suggest suitable root kernel for this JB.
Thanks in Advance,
Krishna.

use XWLSD instead of XXLS8 ma8 and the possible root kernels are the latest 'Philz' kernel and 'Siyah kernel v6.0b4' for now

[Q][Solved] Need help with compatibility check Siyah Kernel on NeatRom

Hi guys,
I have rooted my i9100 (JB 4.1.2) and flashed it with MS2 NeatROM v5.6 Aroma, which works fine except for the battery life which has plummeted dramatically since I've flashed it. Now I'm hoping to resolve this issue by flashing SiyahKernel S2-v5.0.1 (wish I could post a link but I can't because Rooky forum member).
My questions are:
1. Is the Siyah kernel I’ve selected compatible with my device and ROM? Will it work?
2. How do you check compatibility of kernels vs. installed rom and device? Phone firmware?
3. Can kernels in general improve/influence battery life?
Note!!: I am NOT looking for an opinion on how the combination ROM, Kernel, and Device will turn out, or which is best, I am merely asking if my selected Kernel is compatible with the ROM and device. I am new to rooting and do not know what details in flashed ROM and device specs to pay attention to when selecting a kernel, hence my questions.
Phone details:
SGS2 i9100 (JB 4.1.2)
Current kernel: 3.0.31-1484249 [email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT Tue Dec 3
PDA: XWMS2
Phone/firmware: XXMS4
Thanks a lot for your help!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one! I know there are numerous tutorials online on how to install kernels and roms, but the ones I found never stated any specific information on what to look for when combining devices, rom and kernels to make them work. Let's hope somebody here can shed some light on our issue!

Just for comparison,
I installed
neatrom 5.3 neatrom + aroma v 5.5
and used v6.0.1.2 siyah kernel to root it in the first place.
I'm now looking for a custom rom for overclocking, I put one called Boeffla on my S3 that has an app to go with it for tuning, my score on quadrant has jumped up about 3000 points after some overclocking :good:

Is not that
Siyah-s2-v6.0b5-CWM?
2. You have to choose/select kernel according to the build number (settings/about phone)
3.yes they have a significant impact on battery life.
You can improve your battery life by using custom kernels.

Yes, Siyah-s2-v6.0b5-CWM is the newest update. But because it is a beta I assumed it would not be stable. Perhaps I am wrong about that.
So you're saying I need a kernel that runs on buildnumber XWMS2 (my buildnumber)?

You can flash that kernel on your current rom .
And when choosing kernel like siyah dorimax apolo
You have to see their version which is mentioned in op of the respective kernel .
For e.g apolo v4.x is for jb 4.1.2 roms
For some kernels like philz ..you have to see the build number.

There shouldn't be any issues when going from philz to siyah. I haven't used siyah for a while but remember flashing neat with siyah without problems. BTW if you're going to try out dorimanx with neat you should use 8.*** version. If you ask there prepare for some tongue lashing
