ME7 Galaxy s4 - huge disappointment - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

So, I have the sch-i545 with the me7 update. It was preinstalled on my replacement phone so there was nothing I could do to prevent this predicament(other than not breaking my phone and needing a replacement in the first place...boo) Anyways, I have been considering replacing this phone one way or another and I was looking for any advice from the community here at XDA on a suitable replacement. I love the seemingly endless power of this device and don't really want anything less. I have heard a few things about the Note 3 but I was wondering if that would even be worth getting due to the way Samsung and Verizon are cracking down on locking their bootloaders. Will the Note 3 have this same problem? Are there any similarly powered phones comparable to the s4? Money is definitely an object for this endeavor so keep that in mind. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Sucks to hear you had me7 pre-installed. The only suggestion I can make is do an insurance claim and said you lost the device. When you get a replacement, if the replacement has the mdk firmware, root it fast and set it up. Then say a good samaritan returned your phone. This will at least allow for you to have a clean esn and you can sell the phone if you don't want it.
Rooted S4

I've got no suggestions for a phone that's out right now that is better.
If root and recovery are attainable on the Note 3 I will be buying it when it comes out. No reason for me to get a phone I can't build things for. But the note 3 sounds like it's going to be disgustingly fast and perfect in every way... unless it never gets root and recovery. :good:
I'd like an unlocked bootloader but that alone won't stop me from buying it.

Customs roms are cool and all. But when I had my gs3 root was enough for me. I didnt even run a custom launcher because Tw was responsive enough imo and had basically every feature I wanted in a launcher, about the only thing I wanted was the ability to create folders in the app drawer. I had ran the phone stock rooted for close to a year before installing synergy on it, then my wife got it when I upgraded to the gs4. I know this probably isnt an answer you wanted to read but I wanted to throw in my .02 about only having root.

Root alone is alright with me for now but I really would like to run a custom recovery on my phone so I can get back on the Hyperdrive ROM. Call it laziness but there are some mods that I really don't enjoy going through all the work of manually applying them when flashing is so much easier/quicker. I have been researching the Ubuntu Edge which looks promising. The Note 3 looks incredible and if I can find a buyer for my s4 I will likely be switching regardless of the bootloader/recovery situation.

New Eris User Help

Hello all.
I have been looking through the forums most of the day trying to make sense of rooting and roms and all that, and I think I have a handle on what this is all about - obviously I need to try and see first. But I have somewhat of a dilemma on my hands that I would use the advice of others on.
I currently have an iPhone on ATT and love the phone but hate the service. Verizon is the only thing that works well around here (ive tried friends phones) and I know I want something of the Android family if I am going to have to lay down the iPhone (which is getting easier given the flop I think iOS4 is). So, I bought a Droid Eris.
Problem: It is waaay to slow. I have owned it 5 days and Sense UI has Force Closed 7 or more times. I get a better experience by Advanced Task Killing everything, but that seems like a bad deal to have to do on a new phone. I would like to root and rom the phone with something like Official 1.0 Alpha from ivanmmj, but I am still within my first 30 days with Verizon and can take the phone back if it is stock. I am afraid that if I root and rom it that the VZW sales mafia will reject me if I still try to take it back. I also am not confident in my ability to root/rom correctly, or reverse it if necessary.
Question: Should I try to OC the phone with a better ROM and pray it gets snappier or should I go get a different phone? The only other thing they have in the store that would suit me is a Palm Pre Plus (non Android, I know), otherwise I am waiting for the Incredible (4+ weeks) or the Droid X (wish I knew what Motoblur worked like). Opinions?
Rooting is easy as hell, coming from never having done anything like it.
You can unroot easily and it's untraceable.
You should get a different phone, honestly. I love my Eris, and overclocking makes it snappy and quick but it just can not compete with something like the incredible or the droid X. The incredible is WELL worth the wait.
Before you get too distraught over what to do, you should first check to see whether the phone is even rootable. 5 days old, phone from VZW? A lot of new phones coming from VZW recently are not rootable.
Chances are it has the 1.49.0000 S-ON bootloader on it, in which case, the point is moot. (No rooting an Eris with the 1.49.0000 S-ON bootloader at the moment. This is the same bootloader as was used with the "leak" V1, V2, V3 ROMs).
You can check by powering off your phone and then starting it up by pressing and holding the Send+End/Power buttons at the same time.
HBOOT version is in the 2nd line.
(Turn your phone off with a battery pull at that point).
bftb0
It says 1.47.0000 in the HBOOT line, so I am supposing it is rootable?
If it is, I wouldn't mind trying a root, rom, & OC if I can get a proper guide on how to reverse it back to stock. Don't want VZW to think I muckied up their phone should I try to return it.
I really like what I see with the Droid X. I'd even be willing to pay for it today, but waiting until July 15 or later is going to kill me. I recently got some new contracts for my business and not getting phone calls on my ATT iPhone is not a great way to treat a new client.
ATT is a joke.
The Droid X is a beast phone, I'd love to have one.
Go to the developers part of this Eris forum and there's a sticky with all of the guides and ROM's you'll need.

Coming from Samsung

Hello everyone. When I started enjoying smartphones, my first love was with HTC. After some time of quality issues across many of their phones, I made the switch to Samsung. I must say, while I was always impressed with Samsung during the warranty period, it became clear to me that the phones don't hold up much longer than that... and in the case of my S5, made several visits to the repair shop during its warranty period.
My question is this. Should I even give the LG consideration? The G3 has been around a while now so there should be some good input at this point. Am I just trading one evil for another? Or is there much more to look forward to if I make the switch? Also, how difficult is it to root? And if I root, is it possible to undo that so there is no trace in case I need to send it in for warranty?
I would especially like the opinion of folks who have played with both the G3 and the Samsung line.
Thanks in advance.
I love the G3. Performance wise it's a beast. It was a pain to root. I even bricked it once in the process but was lucky enough to fix it. If you plan on unrooting it and rerooting it every time something goes wrong with the phone, then I highly recommend you stick with Samsung. Your life will be easier.
I've had both, g3, to me, is easier to root. Root with stump root app, but you must downgrade, using flashtool, to zv4 1st if your phone came with zv6. After that you just flash bumped version of TWRP using flashify app or ADB. I quit Samsung because of KNOX. One false move with downgrading boot loader accidentally, phone is toast. I have softbricked my g3 numerous times, used flashtool Every time to get out of trouble. As far as unrooting goes, use flashtool once again. Not sure if boot loader counts mods like Samsung tho.

Any means of getting HyperDrive?

Model SCH-I545/OS: 5.0.1 Lollipop/Baseband v: I545VRUGOF1/Kernel v: 3.4.0/Build #: LRX22C
I just want to know if there is any means at all to get any 4.4.X/anything that will make this compatible with SS?
I had HyperDrive on my SGS3 & loved it and, in the end, I would like to have it on this, if, at all, possible...
I was on 4.4.2 KitKat when I originally bought it, rooted it with KingRoot and, as mentioned in one of my past posts, a friend upgraded to this "Lollipop crap" and I hate it!
Is there any means at all of getting SS or whatever it may take to get Hyperdrive KK RLS21 even through Odin or flashing anothe ROM through FlashFire then proceeding from there to Odin?
I just don't care right now or am I stuck on Lollipop and having to find a FF/Lollipop based ROM?
fwiw, I also had kitkat when i bought these 2 phones for $600/ea, both kept tricking us, that little nag that keeps appearing, and occassionally looks a little different, which is also boobytrapped, you find ways of disabling it, then it disables your disable and you get scr* into taking the update. I was pretty new to android when i got the phones, but one of the 1st things i read, stick with kitkat, don't let that little b* update itself. But it's smarter than i am apparently.
My versions are very similar to yours- 1545vrug0f1, 5.01 (thanks to samsung scr* us), 3.40, lrx22c
They scr* us into taking the update, and then they scr* us into not being able to either go back to the original or something better (CM ideally). I didn't know better at the time, i should have taken the time to read more, this company doesn't deserve to be the multibillion dollar conglomerate it is, but people keep buying the new stuff without reading first (fool me once...). I'll never buy another samsung thingamajig.
Ya, I used to love Samsung's Galaxy S series phones! My first smartphone was the SGS1 way back around 2010 then, never had the S2, I had 2 S3's, now the S4 and can honestly say this crap they're pulling now is really making me think twice about whether or not they're my favorite smartphone company any more!
No way to go back to kitkat
Thx for the confirmation, I kinda figured as much but wanted to be sure.
fwiw, some people are insisting that it can be done, confirmation anyone?

Does anyone how many friggin times i have to keep answering stupid questions before posting? Is it intended to be a pain in the ass to post? The obvious answer, spam, but this is beyond stupid. I have an idea, i'll stop posting..
It has been confirmed on mine, SCH-I545 on 5.0.1 (OF1), downloaded KingRoot directly to my phone and ran it, worked like a charm, just sucks I can't go back to 4.4.2!
Tempted to try, but reading of too many phones trashed. Unreal that sprint can screw people over intentionally and get away with it. No doubt they've protected themselves (fine print etc), but that's what makes it manipulative. Thanks for confirming.

G3 How Much Life Left

Just a generic question on how much time and what model you going to next. It appears with the stock ROMS on Verizon, most devs have moved on. The HTC 10 Verizon has Sunshine now at least, don't know jack about a new Nexus model. Just curious as what you guys are moving to. Thanks

At this time, I'm sticking with the G3 unless there is a reason to upgrade. I've had the phone for 18 months now and I must say, it has been the absolute best phone I've ever had. Currently, I'm running stock, unrooted Marshmallow and it runs great for me. I haven't needed a reason to root. Root was mainly for Titanium Backup, but the LG Backup tool does just what I need if I ever need to reset the phone or want to try a new ROM.
Greenify runs as well, albeit not automatically, but I made it so that I can just press and hold the "home" button and it launches Greenify before locking the screen and shutting the screen off. Battery life is excellent for me. I can get through the day without having to charge (unless I decide it's time to play a game and then, all bets are off but that's going to be the same for just about any phone).
However, my oldest daughter just upgraded from her iPhone 5s to a Samsung Galaxy S7 and she is absolutely satisfied with it. She became tired of Apple and how difficult it was to copy music, files, etc back and forth without having to use iTunes. Battery life for her is excellent as well and she loves the fact that she can add an SD card to it to store pictures and music. She has a 64gb card in it.
So, if I were to upgrade, I would probably look at the S7 (non-edge) or maybe the LG G5. But, as I said, my phone still runs as good as it did when I first got it in December of 2014, so I have no reason to upgrade.
What would really force me to upgrade eventually would be if another major exploit was found for the version of Marshmallow that won't get patched by LG/Verizon. Then, I would probably upgrade.

Zenpad P008 Verizon LTE ZT581KL Rooting method?

I cannot even find any information on this device let alone a root method. Apparently from my searches methods for the zenphone may work but im not sure if I want to risk bricking this device, but verizon would just replace it anyway. I guess its fairly new? It came with MM and already has an OTA which i keep putting off while I am going to try out various methods to get this one rooted and unleashed since one verizon store essentially scammed me over my new s7 edge so another store refunded everything for me. Now I got this 4g tablet I want to fasten in my car and it would be nice to root or unlock and put some custom vehicle firmware on it or something like that.
I have the same issue with my new Zenpad 3 8.0 . KingRoot and some other rooting apps didn't work for me.
At least someone finally replies.... I am still stuck trying to root this thing. I've tried nearly everything to no success. Even the temporary cwm wouldn't work for me
Same here buddy. Why did ASUS remove such features as App to SD and multi user support?
Anyone found anything? I have the tablet too...
Well damn this sux, Verizon stuck me with another unrootable device, at least I can say I got my pixel in time to unlock the bootloader and route it but not much activity for it since decided to lock them down. I thought I learned with my G4 that's why I got the pixel got home just to find out they're going to be locked down too lol Oh God how I loath Verizon

I hear ya. I have this tablet too: Asus Verizon Zenpad Z8 ZT581KL with V.3.4.23. Despite my best efforts, the damn system update notification keeps coming up telling me to update to Android 7--which I DO NOT want to do since doing that very well could kill any small hope I have on rooting the device. Since this is a Verizon branded tablet, they made an agreement with Asus to lock it down like Gitmo, so any official bootloader unlocker will not work with Verizon. Maybe one day when Verizon get's their head out of their ass and understands that people have the right to screw with their phones, they will allow unlocking options--though I doubt it.
This would be a great little tablet, if Verizon gave us more control over it--Jesus Christ, you're still getting $$ from me on your non-unlimited data. Bunch of ****-tards---I used to work for them back in the day at one of their corporate locations in Folsom, CA. Sadly, I think it's that prison mentality (Folsom Prison) that must have been carried in the air a few miles to the Verizon offices there. That was WDTS (Wireless Data Tech Support)....I was there right when EVDO just came out/expanding (Before Iphones...closest thing would have been a BES-Enabled Blackberry, or a fancy PDA)--oh those were the days...
There are rooting options available if you understand Chinese--but even its for older software versions 3.3.x, etc, and from what I can understand, the flash might actually take (hackers take note: if the flash can take..maybe we can piece together a flash with proper rooted versions)...but since this is a Sim/LTE tablet by doing that it will screw up the radio (Cellular) and recovery partitions. But maybe something round-about could be done that does that, then reflashes modified signed firmware to root it--I dunno.
My google-fu is pretty good and I came across some cached, or snippet that said SRSroot might root 6.0.1 on the ZT581KL, but not sure now legit it is.
Unless more people get this tablet/devs play with it, I don't think we will get root/bootloader/recovery anytime soon. I wish I lived in a country that allowed multiple wifes, because I would do a bounty for root on this devices and give away one of my wives for payment.
I used the tablet mostly for navigation, but I want root/twrp for backup purposes, if I need to wipe the device crossing the border since police now wanting to look at peoples phones/tablets. I love using Waze since I'll be driving down the road with a FAT blunt smoking away, so it's good to know if cops are around.
Zenpad z8 running on Fi
I also have this pad. I bought it from Verizon because it's USB-C and I loathe micro USB and even more so because the helpful sales guy at Verizon let me try my Google Fi data only sim...and sure enough it works awesome after setting h2g2 as the apn. Would love to root it though I hate how I can only have one user account on this for now.
Kind of off-topic, but I can't find any clear answer to my question about the Z8 and Z8s. I'm considering buying one, but I do not want a data-plan. Do these tablets work without a SIM in them, or will I be stuck at a home screen that says "Insert SIM..."?

Of course you can use it without a SIM.
I just ordered this tablet. I'm sad I can't root it, but I mainly use root for adblocking. I will have to use DNS66 or BlockThis instead.

Zenpad P008 Verizon root - no luck
I just tried One Click Root and that didn't work either. Upon chatting with support they were stymied by the lack of an 'OEM Override' debug mode setting.
Can anybody help, I'm new at this stuff. Plus I'm teaching myself. I've rooted some devices. Did some firmware jobs, kinda' familiar with Odin. But I've tried everything from KingRoot PC to adb tryna' root this thing (P008). Between this thing and that Knox MDM shizzle. Man!, Anybody got anything on these topics......
Anyone try Magisk?? I also want to root this thing. Cannot get a usb gaming controller to recognize either.
