Google Now update Broke "Hotword" activation - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Like the title says this latest google now update has made it so saying "google" no longer works. I did notice that in the search bar it no longer says "search or say Google" I tried toggling the hotword option a few times plus a restart. Its happening on my s4 running aokp and my nexus 7 on cleanrom. Anyone else seen this?
Edit: also tried clearing data and uninstalling updates. funny thing...even with the updates uninstalled that functionality is still gone. re installed updates and its a no go.

[Q] Google Now Will Not Work

Ever since the original JB update for the Prime, I have been unable to use "google now". When I attempt to use the app, it begins to boot the mountain range background of google now, but instead defaults to a plain screen with google search. I have attempted to go into the settings for the app, but when I would click the button to turn on google now, it just wouldnt stay that way. If I went back to the settings right after, google now would again be turned off. I have tried updating my firmware to the latest version, I have uninstalled and reinstalled google search, but to no avail. I had done a factory reset when I installed JB. Can someone please help?
P.S. I never had any sort of tutorial about Google Now pop up when I originally installed JB
Have you updated "google search" from Google Play?

Rooted SGS4 - Play Store does not connect (either Server Error or No Connection)

Now, you guys probably have seen a few of these threads from the past but hear me out:
I rooted my Verizon Galaxy S4 today with this method, and it successfully rooted my phone. But when I tried launching Google Play/related apps or Gmail, and I'm on my wifi (I don't know if this is just mine, or if it will not work over any wifi, cannot test yet), I either get Server Error or No Connection. Also, notifications say that my connection is unstable despite the fact that it wasn't before root. I narrowed down the Server Error to Adblock Plus, but I get No Connection on my wifi with it disabled. It worked fine before root even with Adblock Plus, but now it's being weird after. I've tried MarketEnabler, clearing the Google Servives Framework and Google Play data/cache, unlinking my Google account, reinstalling Google Play, etc. But all to no avail. Reflashing gapps is not an option because I do not have a custom recovery because of a locked bootloader. So what else could I possibly do to fix the issue? I don't want to have to download all my apps with data because that could rack up huge charges for big apps. I also do not want to have to unroot or restore factory defaults. I haven't touched any apps (besides freezing TouchWiz Home, because I use a different launcher, and Knox Notification Manager in Ti, which shouldn't even affect Google Play or Gmail). So, yeah. That's my issue.
May be a silly question, but have you tried restarting your s4? I have gotten those errors before and a restart helped. I'm on mj7 stock rooted from old and slow and I get the wifi connection unstable when I'm close to out of range.

Every time I tried clearing a cache I have. In fact, I just rebooted as I am writing this post. Still didn't work.
Dang I was hoping I had helped..maybe someone else can point you in better direction..but if I run across solution I'll post it here for you

That's not something that anyone has reported. I'm assuming that you've removed Adblock Plus (however, that shouldn't have any impact here.)
It's strange that the Wifi problem only happens with Gmail and Google Play.
What I'd suggest is to uninstall the Google Play updates, then reboot. That'll start you with a known good Google Play app. Then, reinstall the updates using Google Play.

I actually have had a few of the same issues and internet apps frequently freeze and crash too. I uninstalled Adblock Plus and it fixed the problem for the most part.

No, I have not removed Adblock Plus. Just turned it off when testing. Uninstalled updates for Google play, it factory-restored to 4.3.11, issue still occurs. Google Play updated, issue persists.
I just found out what the problem was. I had Adblock Plus before root, and had custom network configs. Turns out, since ABP was no longer routing the connections, certain apps couldn't connect. I got rid of the configs, and started Google Play, and BAM it connected. So, I fixed the problem.

Google play services has stopped.

Yesterday my phone starting giving me a google play services has stopped pop up. Seems to happen when I change from WiFi to cell network or vice versa. Its not a one time pop up either....it happens 5 to 6 times in a row. Occasionally need a reboot to make it stop....and after the reboot it still comes up once or twice

Mine started that yesterday too, but only when i restart the phone. A symbol also popped up on the notification bar that looked like a sim card with a question mark in it. Had to do a battery pull to make that go away.
im on sprint, and mine did the same thing yesterday evening. i get 2-3 pop ups immediately after reboot and then another 2-3 within 2 minutes of the reboot.
Yup me too. Says location services has stopped a few times then Google play services has stopped a few times. Happened randomly yesterday and the syncing icon was stuck in the status bar. The error messages pop up a few times after reboot as well but then don't see them again. Just a minute ago had the phone start locking up real bad and was lagging like crazy. Rebooted and it started up and after about 20 seconds it rebooted again on it's own. Back to normal for now *knock on wood* but that's the first "problem" I've had with this phone. Think Google pushed an update that our G3's do not like.
I was thinking the same thing.... Google play services must have had an update pushed out and it's not playing nice for us. I didn't read anything about a play update though.

I've had the SIM with question mark since day 1. Think it's because not on Verizon. My Google play store stopped working until I restored. This happened about a week ago though.

Add me to the list. Both Google Play Services and Google Location Services are going screwy ever since about 10am PST.
It's starting to become unusable. I'm ready to go back to my Loki'd S4 and give this thing a factory reset. It's popped up 3 times just typing this message..... 4 now

I had location consent module for x posed and Google play store fixes module. I deleted both and so far no more pop ups.

Same here. Deleted the location consent module from xposed and all was good.
*If I have helped you please hit the thanks ?*
Apparently there was an update to Google Play Services from what I've been reading on Nexus forums and it hasn't played nice with certain apps...

That worked for me. I deleted that location concent module and haven't had a notification since.
Ever since the play services update on the 23rd, and including with all of the more recent updates, I continuously get play services has stopped errors and can not use google location services at all. These issues continue even after several factory wipes. After each wipe, the issue returns as soon as play services is updated and if for any reason the phone restarts, it gets stuck in a bootloop. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Any tips that might help?

Have you used the LG Flash Tool to reflash the .TOT? If not I would try that. If there was some kind of system change you made the factory reset would only do so much. Such as when my build.prop got borked before it was known the build.prop for the G3 was too big to open on (most) mobile text editors a factory reset didn't help me and had to use the flash tool. Factory reset is the equivalent of wiping data and cache so if the error messages persist, and especially if your bootlooping, try the flash tool and .TOT.
I have actually been trying to use the flash tool to do just that, but can not seem to get the phone to go into download mode. Is it possible that only the cable that came with the phone will work for that? I have been trying using one that came with my old d2vzw.

I've actually had similar problems since Play Services updated, yesterday no matter what I tried to do I couldn't get the Play Store to connect. . and I tried all sorts of things trust me.
Only thing that fixed it for me was doing a factory reset, which obviously Sux but that's what did it. Hopefully you get it going!

Ok, so I think I've figured this out.
I'm on a T-Mobile note 3 running darthstalker 7,
I started getting this pop up about a week or 2 ago. Initially it would only happen upon enabling or disabling GPS.
Once I started trouble shooting it started happening much more frequently, and began to include a pop-up about location services.
I used titanium to roll back to a previous version of google play services and it seemed to stop. Then it auto updated and here come the pop ups.
I took a previous poster's advice and disabled the location confirmation module in xposed.
Then I restored an older version of google play services from titanium back up.
I let it auto update, upon update I got a notification [with the triangle exclamation point icon] about the service needing my permission.
Once I clicked the notification, yet another pop-up, but this one was different. It was Google play services asking for permission to allow apps access to my location. The interesting bit is that there was a check box for "do not ask me this again" which I checked.
Since I did this, no more force closes on Google play services or location.
Hoping someone else can confirm this works for them.
Hope this helps, hit thanks of it does.

Damn this happened to me too, I was trippin balls glad I'm not the only one

Various app services crashing

I have the T-Mobile HTC One (M7 I believe). It's stock, not rooted and no mods made to it at all.
It's running Android 4.4.3, Sense 6.0, Build 6.10.531.10, Kernal 3.4.10-g40b 189c.
Several days ago, several app services started crashing: com.htc.sense.ime and google app (process gapps) has stopped are the two most frequent, with the latter displaying it's message three times in succession (i.e. after tapping OK, it reappears). Also YouTube and "Get started" frequently crash.
Performing a Google search, I have tried the most common "fixes" posted: clearing the cache for many apps, disabling then re-enabling download manager, reset app preferences, etc.
The issue persists. One poster suggested uninstalling all updates to the play store, which I did, but now I have no play store at all! I have com.android.vendingAssetBrowserAct..., which, when I tap it opens "Google Play", which says, "No Connection". I have no idea how to fix that. And it did not fix my issue anyway!
Today I checked for updates and discovered the Lolipop update (had check for updates turned off). The install on that fails too (I thought maybe it would allow me to install the Play Store).
So I'm leaning on resetting the phone and probably trying that update to Lolipop, but I'm hoping someone might have another suggestion I haven't yet found.
Thanks.
(Edit) Since originally posting this, Google Play Store has apparently re-installed itself (ver. 5.4.12). I had thought perhaps the Lolipop update was failing to install because it needed this app installed, but it's still failing to install despite Play Store now being there.

OK, since it's been about 24 hours and no responses, I'm going to assume this is one of those weird issues that could potentially be any app or service causing it. I have no idea which were the last apps or updates installed, especially since I had to get Google Play Store reinstalled and there apparently is no history to check.
I have not found anything more on the web either. Now I'll try troubleshooting why the system update to Lollipop fails. Later if I'm still not successful, I'll try a factory reset. Dang, this phone has been working great for two years. Weird this is happening!
So the phone has been working fine (mostly). Last night however, an hour or two after I connected it to a charger, I noticed the charge light was out. I tried to wake it and it was dead. Can't reboot, can't turn on.
Left it off the charger all night, but today it's still dead. Connecting to my pc results in a "Can't install driver" error.
I've checked the FAQ in this forum but there's nothing about this issue.
I'm going to do more searching, but If I don't find anything I'll start a new thread about this issue.

Google Discover Feed "tap to update" no longer available since ONE UI 4 Update

Since the update to ONE UI 4, the "tap to update" option on my S21 Google Discover Feed no longer appears. I'm still able to manually update by swiping down from the top of the feed, however, the tap to update feature was very handy. Anyone else having this issue?
I've tried the usual troubleshooting steps of reinstalling app, clearing data/cache, restarting device, etc. Nothing has worked so far.
