Unlocking bootloader :
Issues:
1) Sony will charge you for repairs if you brick your phone and take it to them as your warranty is void .( Work around available ref. relocking bootloader)
2) DRM (digital Rights Management) keys are lost forever , i.e. Track id and Download music info wont work ( Work around available :highfive: )
Benefits :
1)Total control over your phone !
2)Can install FXP Roms ! (super fast !)
3)Can change kernels to optimize battery
Hope this helps
Bravia Engine works in videos (stock Sony movie app, MX Player HW mode) but doesn't work in photos at all. At least on Sola, don't know how it is on P.

You can always use my script to full backup phone so you have nothing to lose.

I was scared to unlock boot loader or to install a new rom but now that I did its another world man, I got cm 9.1 fxp216( hoping for cm10 ) and you can control your CPU how ever you want, everything super smooth and no lags (which I had on stock rom).
Worth it 100%

Totally worth it, though be careful, you do lose your DRM keys forever.
Yesterday I unlocked mine.
Totally worth it. Custom Kernel changed everything!

I read that you cant use sony's programmes to change firmware, is it true? And are there more issues?

As far as i know, with an unlocked bootloader, you cannot use pcc or sus.
Apps like track id,download music info in walkman may not work.
Bravia engine will also not work because you would lose your drm keys forever.

1) The disadvantages are that you will loose bravia engine and you will void your warranty. The only reason you should unlock your bootloader is for installing custom kernels.
You can relock your bootloader via flashtool. This way you will have your warrranty back but you will not get back bravia engine as far as i know because you will loose DRM keys.
2) The rom you are using if for all bootloaders. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to boot system
3) You can unlock your bootloader even if you are on a custom rom but i suggest you to take a backup and install the stock firmware.
4) My opinion is that if you don't want to install custom kernels, cm10 or cm9.1, just leave the device as it is now mate.
5) Don't mess with things that you don't know because you may regret. Unlock bootloader only if you want to install the custom kernel or cm9.1 or cm10.
6) Here you will find a tutorial on how to unlock your bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527159
Should work on xperia go also.
Didn't make a separate thread as I got the same doubts.
I am using Xperia sola , rooted with stock ICS.
I want to eventually use a stable JB ROM.
I am not worried about losing warranty.
I want to know about the DRM keys.
Is there a way to backup or save "DRM keys"?
And then restore them when I want to relock bootloader?
