My Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is running CM 10.1.
More and more frequently it would not recognize a charger connected. I would have to reconnect and it would eventually charge. About a week ago, it just would not charge. I tried connecting to a PC, tried the official charger from Samsung, tried a second charger, nothing. During all of my tinkering to fix it, the battery eventually ran out. I figured the battery was dead.
I ordered a replacement battery and installed it myself. The tablet booted up just fine and showed 60% battery. I connected a charger, it started charging. I wake up the next morning and it is not charging and sitting at 68%. So it did charge some. I got it to charge again for a couple of minutes, but now it has been a couple of days and it will not charge and I am now down to 7% battery.
I tried factory reset, that made no difference. I have the Samsung keyboard dock and it works, That tells me that the connector on the tablet is OK right? Does anyone have any ideas here?

I'm not sure...but I have heard of phones shutting down when they had power left because the battery stats were off around 15 percent.. Maybe it won't let it charge because it thinks its full. You might try to reset the battery stats in recovery.. Just guessing here.. I'm not sure this can be done on this tab / rec...I heard it being done on an E4GT.. I do think I seen that option in my twrp rec though.. I've only flashed about five ROMs on this device so I haven't dug around in rec that much.. But I know its in cwm on e4gt

So.. I have googled the crap out of this problem and seen loads of issues raised, but nothing solved.
I am coming from a Dell Streak and grabbed me a galaxy s 2 from craigslist a couple months back.
It has been running fine and I have tried a few roms/kernels and a few days ago I got the following error:
When charged to 100%, I get the notification to unplug, when I do, it sticks. No big deal but even when the phone battery has dropped to around 80% it stays.
It does not go into MTP mode or think it is plugged in via USB. Although, before this problem originated, the phone continuously vibrated between charging and not, when not plugged in.
I have calibrated the battery, tried a mixture of roms/kernels and I am now on unrooted stock. The problem still occurs and sometimes it does not recognise a USB connection, like today.
Probably worth mentioning that when turning on (and not plugged in) the phone does not turn right on, just boots into the battery screen and flashes between the battery charging and the overheating symbol.
Anyone got any ideas?

Turn off the phone and put it on charging. Once it beeps that its fully charged, quickly unplug the battery for 5-10 minutes. Should work and 'recalibrate' your battery

Thanks, giving a go now.
Do you need root to calibrate though? I am on stock firmware and not in front of a windows machine to use ODIN.

OK, charged to 100% and got the full notification.
Left battery out for 10 mins and whacked it back in.
Turned on and it went to the overheating sign again.
Booted into the samsung recovery and I can boot into android from there.
Battery says it is as 88, cannot calibrate as I do not have root atm.
Any ideas?

Get root and use the battery calibration tool from the market. The best idea so far. I suggest rooting with CF-Root, its fast and easy - its basically still your stock kernel but just with root.
If you really need the warranty or you'r scared of root you can install cf-root, calibrate the battery, then re-flash a stock kernel (unroot)

Done and done.
Calibrated, even bought a new battery. Tried various other roms and appears to be an issue. Phone knows when USB is plugged in but does not seem to recognise the unplugging of the charger. And stays at 100% for a while before dropping down to like 80.
One thing to note is that this seemed to happen around the time of buying a dock for the samsung from Amazon, by Kidigi. I plugged the phone in to the dock without a USB cable connected to the dock and the dock LED lit up, making the phone think it was charging. Is this likely to have caused it/messed up the micro usb forever?
Thanks again guys!
well i think ive figured out what the problem was
Its due to overcharging or keeping the charger connected after battrey is full which has caused a hardware damage
im not sure if this is true but this is the closest explanation i can get the phone shows connected to charger even when diconnected only when i keep it connected for long time even after its battrey is full my usb connection has completely stopped working

well that the same problem with me when it shows connected to charger at 100% i restart it then the phone drops to ~80% battery although its 100% which makes the app battery monitor widget think i have a 1977mah battery while i have the standard 1650mah battery this must be the extra 20% which disappeared after the restart for me
I thought it may have been an overcharging problem, although no other phone I have owned has had this problem.
I let the battery charge all the way down (it stayed at 1% for about 3 hours) until it shut itself off. I left it on the side and it created a clicking noise, it was trying to turn the phone on as it knew the battery was in, even though it was depleted.
I plugged it in via USB to charge and it tried to turn on straight away. Shut it down and charged by plug until the 100% notification then turned on.
Still the same problem but one of my battery widgets warned that the battery was over voltage for a while before calming down.
If the phone cannot be off with the battery in, what could be causing that?

It has been known to be caused by a defective circuit board for the USB connector.
So, it needs a samsung return, I assume?
i have the same problem with overheating and usb plugged when there is nothing connected
i changed the usb port from the phone but it still having the problem!!!
i will try to put a new battery and see if it work and after post a reply
Hi to all
Hope that somebody will be able to help me. The battery on my Venue was completely drained last night during a phone call and the phone shut down. I connected the charger, waited for 30 minutes and tried switching it on, but all I got was the info on the screen is a pic of battery with 0% in it. I tried charging it overnight, connecting it to a computer, but nothing happened, each time I try to switch it on, I get that info (battery 0%).
The battery was ok, I was using it for two whole days before it drained so much that it shut down. I have no custom ROM installed, everything is completely from the factory. I tried taking the battery out, SIM card out, SD card out, no luck. Never had my battery completely drained before, so I can't say if this would happen before. Battery worked perfectly until now.
Found an info that it might be due to the battery protection circuit...? Unfortunately, can not take it/send it to Dell as I bought it in US, and I'm in Europe now. Any idea of what I could do? I would really appreciate it...
Thanx!
Ok, here I am, not to jinx it, but I think I resolved it. I tried switching on the phone again, but with no success. Then I tried entering the setup menu (or whatever it's called) by pressing 'volume down' key and on/off switch, in which I succeeded and saw the setup screen. I DID NOT TOUCH OR CHANGED ANYTHING, just left it like that, connected to the wall outlet charger for a few minutes. After the screen shut down on itself, I took out the battery (after unplugging it from the wall outlet) and put it back after a couple of minutes. Then I plugged the phone in the USB slot of my computer and left it like that for 15 minutes. I tried switching it on again and it worked - the battery was on 3% and the status was 'charging'. Now it's on 51% and 'charging'.
I hope that is the end of the problem, I will never let the battery drain out completely again. Just to be on the safe side, I ordered another battery from dell.com.
Hope this helps someone.
hi you, my V had that problem too, i shutdown phone, connect the adapter, icon battery show on the screen and wait 15 minutes then hold on power button, everything will be ok
i also had a problem charging with the wall adapter when i switched to custom rom (cm7) for 2 days but after 2 days it started charging from the wall adapter..
Thanks a lot people here
This helped me a lot
My dell was 0% when it switiched off automatically
I connected to wall charger in the night
Till morning it was 0%
I read above
But all I did was connected it to USB slot in PC
and left for 10 mins
Then started it
And it went on
No such problem has arised for me till now.
Actually im using samsung galaxy y's wall charger! As i had that in my room, and both uses same charger, i didnt change it and kept dell charger in the box only!
Though using data cable of dell for pc
Wall charger takes 2hrs max to charge the venue fully.
So i bought my SGS3 (marble white) a few days ago and it was working perfectly fine. A few days ago my phone suddenly stopped charging. I rebooted the phone and it was charging again. Last night it again stopped charging. I again rebooted but this time it did not fix the problem.
I know that the charging port of the phone is not damaged as phone works perfectly fine when connected to a pc via usb cable and charges.
And i have never ever plugged in a non-genuine accessory to its micro usb port. Not even a dock!
Anyone with a similar problem or cure?
edit: software update fixed it in my case.

I will not say I have a cure, but I am facing the same problem, sometimes I have to reboot twice for it to start charging.
Guru's kindly look into the issue and help us, this happens in both the cases, while charging for adapter or while charging from USB.

Well not exactly, it does not happen when i plug the phone into a usb port.
It happens with the charger but, now my phone is not just recognizing the charger. I have rebooted twice, thrice but still the same problem.
I'm having a similar problem,
Charging when -
phone on
power save on - WIFI/data and most other things are off
charges 2% per hr with official charger (wall socket)
Charging when -
phone OFF!
40% per hr with official charger (wall socket)
Haven't really tried the PC USB charging yet,
But i have noticed that my battery info page says the phones been on battery for
2 days 22hrs, Very strange as i have charged and attempted to charge the phone more than 10 times in the past 24hrs.
Anyone also noticed the on battery time to be wrong?
i got this problem yesterday too , restart then its ok , weird ...
before reboot the battery icon shows charging icon but its not charging at all
does charging a battery run a software too ?
why you guys not reporting the issue in samsung mobile showroom from where you bought the mobile and take a use of your warranty card?

My mobile is no more in warranty as I have rooted my phone, will have to come back to stock rom for me to claim warranty, that's why I am waiting for someone to provide solution before I return back to stock rom for warranty claim.
Sounds like it's an issue with the charger, rather than the phone.

I thought it was best to ask here before i contact orange to report the problem, as i really didn't want to send the phone back to them if its something i could have fixed
I'm doing a factory reset and if it still has charging problems i will call orange today.
I'm facing the same problem. It started about 2 weeks ago.
I tried different chargers but no hope. the only way to charge it is via a usb port.
I had this problem once on the first day I got my phone. Worked fine though with an iphone charger with the samsung usb cable. Have any of you guys tried that?

I thanked your post accidentally while trying to quote you
The batterystats.bin file only resets itself after a full charge to 100%. That's the file that's responsible for showing all the battery usage info. So if you just keep topping up your phone without letting it charge to 100%, the battery statistics will be from the last full charge. If you see the graph you'll see it rises everytime you charge and then falls when you take it off charge. It cumulatively shows the amount of time you've used the phone on battery since the last full charge, regardless of how much you charge it in between. When you let it charge fully to 100% and unplug it, the battery stats file will be reset and give you a correct reading.

I'm having a similar issue, only difference to what you guys are having is that my SIII start charging via the normal charger if its been in USB for a bit, like 2-5 min. I tried the rebooting, nothing. it only charges through USB 1st, then it will work via the stock charger, I've tested it on another charger aswell, and the samsung car charger.
I really hope there is a quick fix, becuase I dont want to send it in for repairs, as cellphone providers in SA arent the best.
I had a similar problem with my gtab 2 10.1 but the wall charger is to blame

Dude! we don't have problem with battery status i guess,
We have problem with NO CHARGING. Off topic comments won't help.
I had Battery Issues afater ICS
I formated my Internal SD & then did Factory reset
My Phone works Great now & has better Battery Life too
& I did it 3 times
Wonder why everybody keeps saying dont Factory rest ???
Same problem here, i tried with a charger and with a usb port, both doesn't work. Then, i rebooted the phone and now it's charging...
I don't understand.
Hi all,
try off your phone..
take out battery...
put in battery...
plug in charging cable...
wait till it show that your battery is charging with the circle below moving..
let it go 1 round and start your phone. it may help.
Suddenly my phone won't charge. Do I need a new battery?
Here's the details ...
Samsung Galaxy S2 (i9100)
CyanogenMod 10.1 Nightly (10.1-20121229-NIGHTLY-i9100).
I've had it for almost 2 years.
If I leave it plugged in, everything works fine. I can boot it up and use it normally. The lockscreen display and status bar indicate that it's charging, but it stays at 0%. If I unplug the charger, it shuts down right away.
It also seems warmer than it should be while plugged in, but I'm not certain that's part of the problem.
The results are the same whether I use the charger or a USB cable connected to the computer.
There's an immediate reaction when I plug it in or unplug it, so I don't think there's anything wrong with the charger or the port.
I've tried removing and re-inserting the battery with no change. I've also rebooted it several times... it shuts down when I unplug it anyway.
It just happened today, and I haven't installed or updated any software in the last several days. I have auto-updates in the Play store turned off. So it's not a software issue. The ROM was the last thing I updated and that was on the 30th.
I think the battery is really empty because I can't power it on at all if it's not plugged in. So, it's not just that the battery level indicator is wrong.
Hopefully, all I need is to replace the battery, but I was hoping someone here could confirm that or suggest what else might be wrong.
Thank you.
Check contact pins see if they are bent away or have crap on them. If not it sounds like the battery is dead, but I assume you already knew this.
I had already checked all connections and didn't find any damage or other problems. I bought a new battery today and that seems to have solved the problem.
Thank you.

I needed to write because this topic is on top on google results. I've lived the same today. A while ago i had a sudden battery decrease issue. There i was suggested to remove the battery and wait for a while. I tried this today. Removed the battery (simcard and memory card also... i just felt desperate). Waited for a while (i gues it was about half an hour). Plugged to charge. And my battery contiued charging from %61. I just showed wrong level.
This issue is happening to me too=/ but it happened to both my batteries in the space of two weeks
.
hi i have the same problem. i bought a new battery as mine was kaput. then a few days after that i needed a new charger port. now my phone wont turn on manually but when it is on charge it will randomly turn on for 10 seconds with 0% battery and then turn off. i tried doing the reboot with the power, home and vol up button but nothing happens. do i need another new battery?
I don't think it's the battery. I think it has something to do with these custom kernels and ROMs. I've been battling this problem for months with no results.
- I have a new battery, new cable, cleaned pins.
- Tried Lollipop, CM12 with kernel, one or two other kernels.
- Tried various KK ... CM11, Dominanx Kernel, some others too.
None work properly. I love all the updates but it's I just can't pin the problem down on my S2. I'd love to know what else I can do because I think I've exhausted all possibilities. Maybe JB is the only option? I dunno.
Help would be great on this.

Hi,
if you think the problem is custom ROMs then why don't you just go back to stock ROM and try?

I thought it might have been the pcb. I replaced that too but even that didn't completely revive the battery life. Went back and forth between JB and various customs mods to no avail. I ended up selling it for parts locally
Loved that S2 but it was time to walk away from it

I also had the same problem once. What I did was, went to recovery mode and charged for 1 hour and voila,it was charged till 21% only sadly. But by then,it has never rebooted like that!
hey ive also had a similar problem in which my j1 (Samsung Galaxy J1 (2016)) started to randomly shut down or restart around 2 months ago. Then, the battery would start jumping percentages like 100%, to 54%, then 33, back up to 84 in around 10 minutes. Then when I tried to charge it, it would stay at 0% and when Id unplug it, it would say 100% and shut down. Around late last month i ordered a replacement battery, it came in yesterday and worked fine up until a few hours ago. Now when i try to charge it it would stay at 0%.
Solution
1.Turn OFF Phone
2. Pull battery out
wait few sec
3. Connect charger
4. Put battery in
5. Turn Phone ON
Working for me. If not prob replace battery :fingers-crossed:
Hi there. I promised my girlfriend to make her Samsung Galaxy S2 work again. The thing is, suddenly it won't charge. After trying several different chargers did I bought a new battery. But it didn't work either. Then I bought a new USB charging port and replaced it yesterday. After I plugged in the Charger, the screen shows the charging batteri screen for a couple of seconds and the went black. Then there was no power at all. I tried the other battery, I tried to make sure everything was as it should be inside on the motherboard.
Please help me..
I tried to make a hard reset but it didn't start op of course because the battery has no juice. I tried to unplug the battery for 10 seconds, then I plugged the charger in and afterwards the battery, but still no sign of power.

Hm... you should always be able to start the phone via charger, otherwise something is severly broken.
My advice: Get your girlfriend a new phone or rather take her out for a nice dinner!
It's cheaper and you'll have a great time, hopefully.
PS Get the money back for USB charging port and battery. Women are a really terrible influence on men.......

Hi, i am having similar situation, but i would like to be sure, its definitelly dead. What's different in my case, i was using CM 11 M8 and updated to M9 the day it was released, no problem with booting, just to the moment, when battery dropped to 0% and phone turned off. When i plugged it in, i was there - nothing, black screen, no access do download or CMW mode, tried other battery but no luck.
I just dont understand what has happened, that simple update can kill the phone or what?
