[Q] How do I remap my hardware and capacitive buttons - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok so i am running CM 10.1 with the on-screen navigation bar on my i9300 and i would like to know if there is a way to disable/change the menu, home and back hardware buttons. i have searched some threads and tried changing the /system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl file a bit by adding a # in front of the keys i dont want, but it didnt work.
Thanks in advance :good:

Go to system>usr>keylayout>keypad(depends on device) in any root browser app and change the text to what you want DO NOT CHANGE THE LEFT OR RIGHT SIDES ONLY THE MIDDLE so say you have a capative button and its menu and you want to change it to back change the texts to back and the back button to menu if your confused pm me

How to change main icons?

Is there a way to change the icons on the bottom of the phone? The ones right above the capacitive buttons.

You should be able to hold and drag any icon out of the the app drawer right on them.
Edit:maybe not

If you just want to change out the apps, open your app drawer, hit the menu button and select edit. From there it's just drag and drop.
If you want to change the actual icon of the existing app, then you need to use something like APKtool to decompile, edit and recompile the app.

Not sure about the stock launcher but if you change launchers most have way you can swap what's there or replace the image. I usually clear them out and use desktop Visualizer to change them. Drag and drop

Broken Home Button

Home buttons broken, Is there any way I could make another button go to the home screen? Such as long pressing back button or something
It won't fix your physical broken button but, download Button Savior from the store.

Glad you got it working. I have a question about the buttons though, are they supposed to have an LED backlight behind them?

Have you deleted HOME from the original home key in the file? If not I would try that and see if that works.

Get to home screen w/ s pen

Other than pressing the home screen button is there a way to get the s pen to take you back to the home screen? Tried a quick Google search but couldn't find anything.
Only way right now is to buy GMD SPen Control from the market and create your own gesture.

Thanks but I'll wait and see if there might be an update that will allow it before I spend $5 on it.

Im pretty sure you can create your own gestures with out having to buy anything. Plus there is already a way to get to hime. But you have to draw the back button .ill look for it and post it here. With the way to create gestures
Go to settings... s pen..... s pen settings. There you can create a gesture or a function you want the s pen to do. Theres also s help page at the bottom when you scroll all the way down.

Where is the menu button on here to start a new topic. I'm using the s3 to post this. But on the s5 the menu button just shows other apps that are open.
