Yes, reasonably easily. Remove the three screws (one by SD slot, two on bottom), use a guitar pick or fingernail to pop around edges, and pull off back, watching out to not mess up the headphone jack. The connector is big and pulls off with some effort. I've done it multiple times.

Amazing app, thanks for the information!!
Thanks for the reply. I read on the reviews for Car Dock Home v3 that Car Mode Control needed to be installed (if you don't have an OEM Car Dock). I'm planning to use a universal car mount. Are you using this with the Car Dock? If not, did you have to install Car Mode Control... sorry to be asking so many questions... but I really like your setup and I'm trying to avoid any unnecessary downloads.
I am using the OEM car dock which is really well made, no need to install extra junk, I'd recommend springing for the extra bucks and going for the Sammy dock, I am happy with it.

Best dock. Never having to plug/unplug cables is a huge plus. Then having it auto launch profiles (Bright 100% until 6pm then 10%, BlueTooth on, Wifi Off) just by dropping it in the dock. The OEM dock is the only way to go IMHO.

Here's a question, does the dock have an audio out port like the desk docs? If I could leave my audio patch cable plugged in I would be sold on this, but still having my cable plugged in the top of my phone is a pita compared to being able to plug it into the dock and forget about it.

Yep, which is exactly why I bought it, you can send audio out over either the built-in 3.5mm jack or via USB. Ironically I ended up putting my audio out over a bluetooth A2DP connection which also sounds excellent.
Have you tried to use an NFC tag with your setup?
If you don't, I would suggest that you make the use of one to bring up your setting automatically when getting into your car!

Thanks man, Looks like Im going to have to look into one. I depend on my phone more then I should, and one this big does not sit well in cup holders.
OP, I already purchased the universal mount (mountek). The reason why I was hesitant about the OEM was because I wasn't sure if it would fit with my case. My question is, do you have a case and would it fit in the mount?

I don't have a case so cannot say, I doubt it would fit with a case.unless it was one of those folio covers that replace the stock rear cover as not to Change the phones profile. The cradle is not adjustable and it fits the phone very tightly

Headphones only play out of one side unless I wiggle or twist the plug

So in the past few days I've noticed that no matter what headphones I use, I will only hear music out of one side. If I wiggle or twist the plug in the jack, music comes back in the right side. It usually stays like that for awhile and then I'll move a tiny bit and it will stop.
I tried taking rubbing alcohol to a toothpick and cleaning the contacts in the hole. Any other suggestions before I send it in for warranty replacement?
Thanks.
You could try a rapid insertion and extraction of the plug a few times. Sometimes the contacts stick and do not allow for full contact of the plug. Otherwise, pack it up and get it shipped out for warranty fix would be my suggestion.

Sounds like its not fully inserting, are you sure there's no compacted pocket lint in there?
Try the head phones in something else. The write may be separating at the Jack

How many sets of headphones have u tried
I had this problem with an old iPod Video I had. I think it was caused because I was leaving my headphones plugged in when I wrapped them around the iPod. This caused the internal headphone jack to band slightly, eventually making it lose contact with the headphone plug. I had to get a replacement internal jack and swap it out. If you've been doing this, make sure you unplug the headphones before wrapping them around the Note. Hopefully a replacement headphone jack isn't too expensive if you need to replace it (or maybe it will be covered under warranty).
Your phone is not in a case, correct?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
Thanks everyone. I've already tried rapidly inserting them several times and checked for lint in there. I've tried 3 sets of headphones and also the audio cable in my car. I do not leave the headphones plugged in ever. Phone is in a case but it does not block the headphones from fully inserting.
I have the best buy warranty so they will replace it, but I'll be without a phone for a few days and I'll have to go through the hassle of setting up a new phone.
Don't worry about having to setup your new phone. Assuming you have CWM, just do a nandroid backup on your current phone. Reinstall CWM through Odin on you new phone and restore the nandroid backup and you're back in business in about 15 min. Good luck.
I know you say it doesnt block it but have you tried without the case? I have a few cables that do not work with my case. They only play out of one channel unless i modify the shiekd on the cable or take the phone out of the case

You don't have to worry about the flash counter. I had to send my note to Samsung for a warranty repair for a screen issue before braway's reset came out. I think my counter was at 4. They repaired it with no issues.
If youre within your time period, get an exchange. Bring your headphones and replicate it to the rep.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
So I messes around some more with jamming the headphone in, and I finally must have dislodged whatever gunk was in there, because it works now. Thanks!

Tab 2 10.1 audio/video/usb(charge) cable

Hello,
I'll be hooking up my tab in the car and I'm looking for a cable that will charge over USB and provide audio out in one.
I found this guy on Amazon but it only says it works with the original Tab.
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0054MV84Q/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=A36WKB83D3HR47
The video out is mirrored so I would just leave that part unplugged.
Does anyone have experience with this or something similar with the Tab 2?
Thanks!
I just ordered one. I'll give it a whirl and report back!
Be interesting to see how you get on, I'm in the process of mounting my P5110 in the car as well. I don't think the video would work anyway, but the audio should...
What bracket are you planning on using if you don't mind me asking?
I actually ended up making my own, a TV mount coupled with a gel case.
TV mount: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0044YMQIW/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00
Gel case: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009L7OMVG/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00
With a little modification, it worked out quite well.
I like this setup because I can easily reach the tablet to control Pandora, Stitcher, Maps, etc, and still swing it over for a passenger to watch Netflix or browse the web. If I can get this cord to work, I'll be set!
More pictures here:

Has anyone had success with this on 10.1?

Very nice setup, and with the minimum of cables hanging out of the Tab.
I must order the same cable now that you confirmed that it works, and post a pic once I have it mounted in my car.
Currently my trusty i9000 handles all my in car android needs with Navigon etc.. time to upgrade.
I still need a way to attach the cable to the mount without it looking like junk, but since it splits close to the usb/av end of the cable, this shouldn't be too hard.
Definitely post some pics once you have yours set up.
Since this is mainly going to stay in the car, I also set up Tasker to perform a few tasks when the device gets power.
On power connect:
- Turn screen on (I believe this happens anyway though)
- Set brightness to auto
- Set screen timeout to 24hrs (There is also a function to keep the screen from turning off, but it still dims the screen close to the devices set timeout, which I find annoying)
- Play audio (if paused)
On power disconnect:
- Pause audio
- Set screen timeout to 2min
- Lock screen
Just some food for thought.
Looks great!

So we can get audio out thru the 30-pin connector? hows the sound quality vs. the headphone jack? i assume since it works for the 10.1 tab 2 it should work on the 7.0, would love for a nice single connection setup like that when I work out a way to do an in-dash setup once i figure out a way to relocate the AC controls.
edit: 500th post :highfive:
has anyone got this working on a galaxy tab 2 7.0 (p3110 pref)
ive bought 2 diffrent cables and neither has routed audio out via dock,
is there something i should be doing within android to enable dock mode or route audio out via the connector or will it do that automatically?
i really need audio to come out via the dock connector so i can charge and play audio out of the one cable.

The audio on the 30 pin is the same audio on the headphone jack....... its audio.
The only difference between the 10 and the 7 is that the 7 has no video on the 30 pin
I bought a similar cable as yours But I cant get it to work the audio wont out through the cable only on the device. Any setting that I should do? Could you please show me your set up? Thanks you.

CHeck the Samsung accessories page for the adapter, if it says its compatible it is, if its doesn't list your model its not.
Just curious here...I've been long considering taking my Galaxy Tab 2 7 inch apart and somehow fashioning a Double Din head unit out of it. But I'm a little skeptical now because:
If I'm reading this right, you guys are saying that only audio comes out of the USB connector thing? But that doesn't make sense to me because why wouldn't the audio sound, and video sound be handled the same way? It just seems like to me they would be essentially the same thing, but then again I'm not very tech on the software side so idk

From what I gather, your audio in whatever form will be carried through the 30-pin connection on the GTab7.0. The only difference in the pin connector from the GTab10.1 and GTab7.0 is that Samsung, in their infinite wisdom, omitted the video pin on the GTab7.0.

[Q] Why does my music cut out for a second when plugged into a charger?

Hello, as my title states, my S3 (Verizon) works wonderfully. The only issue I am having concerns playing music. It doesn't matter if the song is stored on the phone or on an external microSD card. It doesn't matter which media player I use (I prefer Poweramp). Whenever it is plugged into a charger (wall or car) and I move or touch the phone physically, the music cuts out for a brief second. The player icon in the notfication bar also fades away, then comes back quickly. It's almost like I pause and unpause the music quickly.
I have tried rebooting the phone and blowing the microUSB port with compressed air, but that doesn't work.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
It plays a sound if you're connecting to a charger or usb doesn't it? From my experience, any media (music, radio, in-game sound) briefly mutes then resumes playing when using connector. Don't know how it'd work if you set it up so it doesn't play the sound

Sounds like a faulty charger. It would explain why it cuts off when you move your phone.

It only does it when it is already connected, not when I am in the act of connecting it.
I do suspect that it is something with the charger, however it does it with multiple chargers....Although, come to think of it, I buy cheap ones from Amazon, haha. I bet that is the problem. I wonder why that is. Maybe the charger is making my phone briefly think it is in dock mode.
Anyway, thanks for the replies!

Very nice review. I actually have mine coming in the next few days. Haven't been this excited for a product in a while. Did you notice any drop out or de-sync when playing directly from the headphones?
Also do you have a PC you are able to test pairing with? I'd highly doubt there's anyway for that to work considering the tech
Edit: I only need the left one to function with a PC, I can only have one earbud in due to the nature of my job
can it sync s health if you don't have your phone with you when running?

You can use them without your phone after setting up. So you can transfer music to the ear buds and start a workout from the ear buds. When you get within bluetooth range of your phone, the data is then synced to S Health.

Battery definitely could be better, but the charging protective case is a reasonable solution / trade off to not having any wires.
For anyone curious, you can pair these to a computer but only one connected at a time. They show up as 2 separate bluetooth devices. Make sure to disable bluetooth on your phone when you're doing it so the app doesn't auto pair back
Edit: Apparently that's incorrect. When you pair the primary bud to the computer, the secondary earbud will auto connect to that one and you will get stereo sound from the computer. Has about a 400ms delay so need to adjust for that in video playback
Edit 2: The mic's also work for video chat

How do you transfer downloaded songs in Google Play Music to the IconX? Nothing shows up in the Gear app?
Have you got the ear buds in the case? Connected the micro USB lead with the OTG correctly to your phone. Then using the Samsung Gear Manager, using the music option you can transfer music across. This is for locally stored music either on the internal or micro SD card, not music downloaded from the cloud using Google Play.
Are these exclusive to Samsung or can they be used on e.g. an iPad or iPhone?
Thanks
How many hours can playing music on battery?
I received mine yesterday. I had 2 issues. 1 I tried to transfer from phone note 7 to the headphones I was unsuccessful had to connect to computer. 2 I see they have a update but how do i update ?

Sir, I have a question (and already apologize if ever you think it's a dumb one). I'm just curious as to how we're supposed to properly store the earbuds. I mean, after the light flashes green for both buds, do I just keep the lid of the charging case closed and leave them in there? Or do I need to take them out? Thank you in advance for any reply/help.
Correct, you store them in the case with the lid closed. This way it keeps them topped up, and when recharged, stops charging them.

Thank you so much, sir! This puts my mind at ease. I've recently been leaving the lid open every time both earbuds get topped up because I didn't have proper knowledge as to whether to keep the lid opened or closed after charging. Also, because when I asked the same question from the chat they have in the Samsung PH site, they told me to leave it open after the earbuds get charged. tsk tsk
