LTE connection - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

My brother and his wife both have the evo lte, hers is not rooted and his is running the latest viper, baseband and prl are the same on both phones, his is a year old hers only a couple months old.
When there home both phones next to each other hers gets lte and his doesn't, what could cause this to happen

The problem seems to be the LTE radio, as I understand it. Some EVO LTE's pick up LTE just fine, while others do not. Some people have had luck with taking the phone to Sprint and getting it replaced.

Also one phone may take a update differently or later or possibly never. Your best option is get rooted find some mods for your signal, speed, power and so much more or you might as well have an iPhone 4s

My wife has this phone. This is her first android phone. I figured it would be a good first phone since she wasn't familiar with the android os. So far she loves it.
I finally got her away from BlackBerry

At least their LTE works correctly :banghead:
Not totaly every morning i take my girl to work and we drive through the LTE tower in hollywood Florida .and the only way to engage LTE is by the airplane dance . From testing that I have conducted

Yea I didn't think there was a forum for it. But I'm getting it to use for a MP3 player for work. It has a bad ESN # but he only wants $30 for it. So I'm thinking it's worth that much

My wife has this phone as well, couldn't talk her into spending a little more money for a real phone. She likes a smaller screen even though she is always stealing mine when I'm home. I would love to root it and get some better battery life.

Look closer on google the viper is running ics now. Don't want to tell ya where to look but its definitely on google!
Sent from my LG-LS840 using xda app-developers app
Looks like ics will be rolling out in the next couple weeks. Hopefully it helps with battery life.

Look even closer and ics can manually be pushed, using the update.zip and factory recovery but you can't be rooted or have deleted any sprint apps..

Here, this method works for the viper too. Just download the last file and use 7zip to unzip it and follow the instructions. I rooted my LG Viper that has ICS on it.
If you do not have ICS on it use this method to root
http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg-viper-4g-lte/171000-how-root-gb-root-lg-viper-gb-ics.html
Both methods work on either ICS or GB
These are not my programs, just a messenger.
Still no home for the viper?

No 4G connectivity

I got my DNA for couple of days now and I never see it connect to 4G LTE even in the same spots that I used to get with my Galaxy Nexus, I'm kinda worried now, maybe something is wrong with my unit?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda premium
It could be your unit or maybe your SIM card. If you have time go to a Verizon store and get a new SIM, if that doesn't work then Maybe get a new DNA

Thanks for the help, the phone just need to be activated to get 4G. Everything works now.

4g question

Thinking of upgrading to this phone and was wondering if the whole thing with the phone not picking up Wimax is software based or something with the hardware. I'm in Saint Louis, MO and it doesn't look like we are getting LTE from sprint anytime soon.

LTE only
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Thanks for the response but that did not answer the initial question of whether this is software or hardware issues as to why.

Yes and not to sound indignant but the way I worded the question the knowledge that the phone only picks up LTE is already there. I was asking why that is and if it was a software or hardware issue, not for clarification on the type of network the phone can use.

Thanks for the link.

No problem. Reading back over this thread, are you wanting to know about the LTE connectivity issue, or why an LTE phone won't work on Wimax?
Sent using my HTC EVO LTE and a magic wand
Wanting to know exactly why, if it is a software issue there may be a work around, if it is hardware then obviously there is nothing to be done.

Wimax and LTE are two different types of 4G, and they operate on different frequencies, therefore they aren't compatible with one another. As far as the LTE connectivity issue that many EVO LTE users have complained about, it's not entirely known whether it's a hardware issue, software issue, or both. The thread I provided you the link to above deals with the connectivity issue.
Sent using my HTC EVO LTE and a magic wand
Wimax support requires an entirely different radio chip inside the phone, which the EVO 4G LTE does not have (one of the main reasons being battery life). It will never have Wimax support.
So it is hardware then. Buying the phone next weekend anyways, the 3g speeds here in St Louis aren't that terrible until you go inside a building. Thanks for that confirmation.

It's been out for a while, I am on almost 3 weeks and to add, for me it's pretty flawless even without BT but link for discussion has all the details.

I also believe that the evolte is scheduled for a sense 5 update. So I'm sticking around for the next set of HTC phones. I might even leave Sprint... I won't see any 4g in my area any time soon, and 3g is not the best.

I thought the same, as my town wasn't even on the list for any time soon, but I now have LTE. I think sprint is working hard to compete. Mobile tech is basically the most lucrative field to be in. They're hungry.

Data while on the phone??

I was just wondering if it's capable of data while you're in a phone call. if anyone knows please let me know
Sent from my SM-N900P using xda app-developers app
I know the s3 and evo let was
Sent from my SM-N900P using xda app-developers app
Only on Lte which is okay, but if all you have is 3g it should have been svdo
Sent from my SM-N900P using xda app-developers app
I believe once u have a custom rom it will let you...don't know what file has to be changed or whatever. When my s3 was stock it wasnt possible but after flashing several customs roms I just happened to notice I was able to talk and use date at same time while on 3g.
Sent from my SM-N900P using xda app-developers app
Just tested it on my VZW GN3. While on a phone call, both WiFi (obviously) and 4G LTE work flawlessly.

Has nothing to do with custom ROMS. Sprint Note 3 cannot do calls and data while on 3G, on WiFi and LTE, yes.
Only Sprint phones that did calls and data while on 3G are/were the Evo 4G LTE and Galaxy S3. That's because they supported SVDO. After those two phones, Sprint did not support that feature onwards.
