Hard Bricked? Need Help? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I wanted to try and help anyone out who has a hard-bricked S4.

I would also like to report that I am able to downgrade our device from the ME7 OTA back down to the MDK (for root and recovery).
Anyone interested, please get at me.

I'm guessing it requires jtag to get it back on MDK? Still if the cost is reasonable I'm sure this is a good option for people.

No on the bounty. I have not bypassed the new ME7. I use JTAG to downgrade to MDK from ME7. That's all.
I am working on the ME7 bootloader though. Trying to figure out a workaround.

Shoot, being able to downgrade through a JTAG mod, if easy enough, should be more then enough to get people to pay up.
Either way, that's amazing work.

Exactly, I would love to know how to do this, or what to buy to do this, I work as a Technician and could definitely do this, but most of the info online ive found by searching is "send it in to us" "let us unbrick your phone!".

I am gonna have to close this thread. No offense to anyone here, but there is too much confusion.
Just to make everything clear, I have NOT discovered a fix for the ME7.
Again, this is a free service. Paid-for advertisements are not allowed on XDA. I am doing this as a service to the community and will not ever accept money for it. Continue reading please
Just remember that there are people out there (like the developers that make your ROMs and MODs) that need this more than you and that actually need their devices (immediately) functioning properly to continue development and work on your bootloaders. And requesting my help could possible delay me helping them.
That's not to say that only developer's woukd need a service like this. There are extreme circumstances that I am sure will arise and that have in the past. Just make sure you have a good reason. That's all I ask.
And to the Developers/Contributors/Etc., please DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK. The answer is YES.
I can use JTAG to bring a device to a state where it can then be flashed with the MDK via odin. This is nothing new. JTAG has been around forever. It just takes the S4 to a sort of generic state where any stock odin firmware can be flashed. Whether it be ME7 or some other/future update, it can be done and I have recovered my SCH-I545 from an OTA ME7 update at least 5 times and brought it back to MDK to re-unlock and re-root.
JTAG isn't anything to mess around with or anything that can be learned overnight/a week/a year/etc. Its very dangerous. There are services you can pay for on eBay for recovering bricked devices, but there are very few people that do it. And even fewer than that who know how to do more than just unbrick a device. I myself am at the very bottom of the totem pole I'm regards to JTAG. But, I have unbricking/downgrading any of the S4 variants down to an art. And that's about all I can do really well. I am trying to work on the bootloader also, but it is very difficult stuff that I am learning more about everyday.
I mainly wanted to share this with contributors and developers and anyone else that really really needed their device to be fixed (for a good purpose). Or anyone else that was in need of this kind of help badly.

[Q] Traded note 2 for S4

So here's the situation... I traded my note 2 straight up for the s4...the guy said he bought it at best buy... I'm extremely happy with the s4 except the guy updated the phone so no root... I saw that one member called Verizon and got a new phone sent to him bc he said it was dropping calls and stuff... My question is: how could I send this phone back for a new one?! Will Verizon except it? Or best buy? Any ideas?!

Personally I'd go on Craigslist and be real straight forward about your situation. Toss in a 20-30$ incentive and you'll find a pre update s4 in no time
There is a reason that you're given two eyes, two ears, two hands and only one mouth.

I could be wrong but I think once the phone changes owners there is no returning. You may be able to go through Samsung's warranty if its broke but I doubt any store will take it back.

UPDATE: Here is the unlocked bootloader dump. (2GB)

(Separate post for visibility)
This post on Reddit, shows a claimed "fully operational prototype" that the OP's father received from a friend who works for Samsung.
Here is the about screen.
I worked with the poster, over the weekend, to pull a system dump:
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23060877490004987
The .rar contains the MMCBLK's, as well as the contents of /system as requested by Metallice in the original xda thread.
Please let me know if anything else is needed.
Edit: Title change (thanks 2swizzle)
Big thanks to Redditor iDubWheniStep for his patience and cooperation.

I don't think he was ripping anyone saying he's "owed anything". Just exhibiting frustration on a locked bootloader. I too had hoped Sammy would not have gone this route, and more development would continue. Those of us on VZW should come to expect this now, as they are nazis with the bootloader. Bootloader unlock is not a selling point for me, but it does make it more fun.

It is frustrating for those of us on ME7 not to have an unlocked bootloader, but I for one am grateful for the options we DO have right now... you can still root and use Xposed to customize to your liking or use Safestrap and flash a decent amount of roms. I will keep waiting patiently for someone to find an exploit, but in the meantime just shut up and enjoy what options we're even lucky enough to have. You picked Verizon, did you really expect freedom?
I just want the apps Verizon denied me

First make sure the s4 box is the mdk model. Absolutely under no circumstance should you allow anyone to give you a me7 model nor let any rep activate your phone at the store. Say your corporation requires you to activate it while in their presence. Just tell'em you work for the government. Better yet say you're an auditor for the irs, no one wants to F with that. If the store doesn't have a me7 model then go to every possible location that sells vzw s4s till you find a mdk model. Alot of people have luck with best buy, I got mine at radio shack. Dont turn your phone on until you have came home and read the thread on rooting mdk or check in here for further instructions.

Damn I thought I made a well thought post lol. Also you could probably make a decent profit by getting a mdk then selling it to someone who has a new me7.
P.S. For future reference, you didn't jailbreak the S3, you just rooted it. Jailbreak is for ios only and is different from root. Some people will rip you a new one for saying that. Imagine giving the answer "the millennium falcon" when asked what ship Capt. Kirk commanded...at comic-con.

It's root-able, just can't install a custom recovery and thus custom ROMs and kernels as of yet. However, a workaround is in the works that will at least allow you to flash custom ROMs that use the TW kernel. Of course, all of this only matters should you decide to root your phone.

As of now I really don't see a reason to root.
Although the thing I like is the app that allows with root to move any app to SD.
But is it worth rooting only for this? I don't know maybe later in few months , maybe in a year

He flat out said "bootloader is my next project" lmao...so yeah that would mean all of that above ^
p.s. - many thanks for your effort and subbed for results! expect a donation from me if you are successful
Guys I have been working on this for the past 2 months. I am asking nicely. Do not ask for time stamp. As I have step 1 done. Removing knox. Step 2 (bootloader) will be done in the next few weeks. I am working on this and remodeling are twins room. I will fade in and out of this tread. As I am making progress. Some rom builders will get a message. Asking if they want to be a tester.
Imgs of proof will be posted over the weekend.
And yes there will be a way to reverse back to stock.

I understand our bootloader will be updated when Verizon releases 4.4. Do you recommend holding off on an OTA?

Yes. More then likely we'll find a way to have a flashable version of 4.4 once we get the bootloader unlocked.

If the 4.4.2 comes out before I release this. Go ahead and update. It won't matter for what i am doing. . It will still break verizon bootloader.

I don't have experience working on bootloaders, but just out of curiousity, why does deleting Knox make you so confident that the bootloader can now be unlocked?
Like I said I'm not doubting, just curious.

Look at it this way. Your phone files are like a tree. You find the seed and start building a tree files. Then you can find the sources.
