XAPS, when downloaded directly from the store, will not work. The XAP is automatically corrupted, therefore you cannot sideload it. XAP sideloading was meant for developers to test their apps, and can be used to sideload homebrew applications.
There is no way to access the Waze beta without being signed up by the application owner.

Probably he was talking about loading the xap from the SD card, not sideloading.

its an official xap from the store not something i created.
and in the instructions on the store page it says how to do it
but when i try it it says incompatible app.

Are you guys looking for THE Facebook app, because AFAIK, it does not work on the NT. I don't know about the official Twitter app. I use Tweetdeck (sideloaded from my phone).

FYI: The newest versions of both apps work on the NT. The market just won't allow you to download them [another reason I'm returning this thing.] You need to sideload the apks.
even if you went with the KF, your stuck with 8GB without expansion....worse screen, more fragile, etc

Actually, I sideloaded those apks before I rooted, and they wouldn't work once I'd rooted. I went into the Market and replaced them with the Market versions and they work just fine.

Did you lift the Twitter .apk from a rooted device and if so...what directory was it hiding in?
I spent 45 minutes this morning looking in my old Hero and couldn't find it. I came here to to get the treasure map and you have just delivered the treasure.

Thanks Torrential91 - downloaded and installed both. Facebook works great, twitter wouldn't install. Do you know if I need to edit the file name to remove the % etc?

EDIT: For those of you who are rooted, I just made a thread in this forum on how to install apps that aren't showing up in the marketplace. Maybe that will help as well.

Are you trying to use it on a rooted NT? Which root did you use?
This time around I'm using the Snowball root.
Yeah, snowball-mod has some issues with Facebook and the XDA app... I'm looking into it now.

I downloaded the apk via your link above from the browser on my rooted NT (basic root using Indirect's latest instructions), and the download completed. But when I select it (to install it) my Nook says "Cannot open file."
Any ideas?

Do not use the built-in file explorer. It was designed to prevent people from sideloading applications. Check out "ES File Explorer".
I rooted my nook tablet with the SnowballMod root and everything is working fine, but some of the apps in the android market are missing. I have tried editing the build.prop file and clearing the market data and cache to spoof the market, but it still wont work. does anybody have ANY ideas?
theres not some, more like a lot and thats normal cuz its happening to everyone. apps that dont appear on the market have to be downloaded as .apk files and then transferred to your nooks sd card i use drop box and es file explorer for this procedure
how would i do this? how close are the people to fixing this and being able to install custom roms? i need facebook.
sideloading if it is not working from market.

It's not technically broken. The market should not show you apps for which your device does not meet the requirements. That doesn't meet they don't work, but that you have to install them another way. After updating my phone to ICS, I had to sideload Tapatalk, since it is not "technically" compatible with ICS, even though it does work.

1) Use the web app (it's pretty good, and doesn't have any background processes)

when running astro or android manager it can not take backup of ths app. due to some changes on google play.
the app is called Stempl and is found in ggogle play.
Ive installed it on the phone, in astr it tellls me that (private) all other apps is a check box to take a backup off
anyone have a solutions ??

cant find the file under data/apk with rootfilemanager......
the file u sent a link for is the new version. its requiering to register. the version before not avilable in google play anymore
???
used extract apk app.
got the file out from my phone, but the installer in CM10.1 on my galaxy return with failure upon installation app did not install.
do not know why ?

Try AppSaver to just extract apk, available on Google Play.

I suppose your apk itself got corrupted somehow.
May be you can search on the net for that version of apk and download it from some of the websites that allows you to download apk directly rather than from Google Play.

there are no apk under data/app on phone. in apk extrator its protected.

Problem solved.
Used MybackupPro to take backup of existing application installed. works like a dream installed same backupprogram on the phonemoving too
important to use pro version due to restriction on date btw different phones

What you can do is what as known as sideloading the app's apk file. To do this first you will need to find the .apk file for the app you want to install by searching online (Only search for free apps online never sideload paid apps without first having purchased the app and/or contacting the developer of the app first) then once you have the app's apk file transfer it to your phone. Once it's on your phone make sure that the install from unknown sources option is checked under System Settings -> Security -> Unknown Sources. After you have done that navigate on your phone to where you transferred the app that you wanted to install's apk file then click on the app and it will ask you if you want to install the app. After the app is finished installing you are good to go and the app should be ready for you to use. Just trying to find a way to "trick" Google Play to think that my phone (S Advance) is compatible with all apps.

The other options you could try is using the app Market Helper or Market Enabler that allows you to spoof your device and trick's the Play Store into letting you download apps that the Play Store claims are "incompatible with your device".

Some apps simply weren't updated since WP7.8 times, so they won't work on your phone anymore.
This is why you can't download them.

Yes, but how do you install them? I have old apps downloaded from Microsoft web store and I can't install them now. Neither those downloaded with the site you mentioned.

did you rename downloaded file to .xap format??
eg:
Downloaded file from wpsnatch would be like "b91a1f3c-abc4-4eac-b979-146573125b54". You have to rename it to "filename.xap".
then copy to sdcard, open store ->"..."->install local apps.
