After trying to install the new OTA updated and got stuck on the vibrant/samsung screen I use ODIN to get back to original and install the new tar file...however now I lose root and I wanna deleted some of the bloatware that is on my phone now.
I used the one click root on my vibrant the first time I root if I use this again will it work or is there another method?

All of the existing root methods work with JI6, so you're okeedokee.
I have tried all day to regain root access. I had to use ODIN to get the update correctly. I used the one click root (update.zip) method but still cannot delete any of the bloatware or irritating startup/shutdown sounds.
I can use ROM Manager to Reboot Into Recovery but when I try to use Root Explorer to delete unwanted apps or those god awful sounds it gives me the following message:
"Warning PowerOn.wav cannot be deleted because the file system is read-only"
Now I know this means that I don't have full root access. I am going to try to uninstall and reinstall Root Explorer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I had the same problem (unable to delete bloatware) but I installed the latest root explorer and I delete all of the (safe) bloatware without a problem.
I don't know about the "intro" cause I have my system volume on minimum.

If super user pops up to ask for permission then you are rooted. With Root Explorer giving you the read only error, there is the toggle button at the top to go back and forth between R/O and R/W. Give that a shot before starting the process all over.

That was it. I never noticed that up there before. Thanks for that advise. Finally starting to feel normal again after the whole OTA update debacle.
i have tried all of the options mentioned, however when i select deleted it will say that the file was deleted but it still wont delete it off of my phone and when i go back into root explorer it is there again..........any ideas as to what may be happening?
I installed the update yesterday and got the following problem:
After updating wireless is stuck and won't either turn on or off.. in settingsmenu on the wlan activate button it just says "error" in the second line. on push it says "activating" for some time the drops back to "error".
So my question: Does anyone have a copy or I don't know what of this update so I could try to intall it again? But I only want the original one..
Or if there's a way to correct it without installing the whole update again I'm of course open to.
PS: Moto Support just says Factory reset but there is upfront no way I am doing this without having tried anything else..
I had the same problem but not with wireless, with mobile data. Only thing that sorted it was a factory reset unfortunately. Not as bad if you use an app like app backup and restore and copy all of your phone storage to computer and back again after factory reset but still a pain

Thanks for the reply.
Do I remember right that you must be rooted to do a backup of phone data? Because then I'm screwed! Or is there another way or a software only running on the computer?
I wasn't rooted when I did it. I just backed up all my apps except system apps using app backup and restore, connected razr to PC in mass storage mode, copied the whole contents of the internal memory to my PC, did a factory reset, reinstalled app backup and restore, allowed non market apps in application settings, copied everything back from the PC, ran app backup and restore and reinstalled my apps. Note the order as back up apps are saved on the internal memory.
May be an easier way to do it though. I don't know if it would do the same with the motocast USB backup?

Thanks for that guide, will try to do it like that..

What do you mean with that? Why should I notice that and where can I see that (if I loke at it in explorer the apps are in alphabetical order..).
I don't know Motocast function but it seems pretty much more complex than just copy paste.. at least to me as I also never used it.
I did a factory reset, problem stays the same: error in wifi. Can someone provide me the update to flash it again and see if it helps? The only other way is to send to repair which I would not like to do..
I just flashed it on mine and everything went well. I think you might have to go to the recovery mode and do factory reset.
Good luck.

Has anyone here used motocast backup on their PC as it appears to back up the full internal memory? If anyone has, do you know if it puts your apps back on when you restore?

Can anyone make a nandroid with this update and upload somewhere(only need system)

Did the update (from the other post) again, worked fine, but the problem with wireless still stays the same.. has anyone ideas how to solve?
PS: Could I try to flash an old OTA Update file in the same manner and then update again or wouldn't that work out?
Had the same error with my wifi a while back, but that was before the update. I went ahead and had the phone replaced because i was not able to get a solution.
no love for the nandroid?

Did you get a new phone or what did they do?
I upgraded to this one through rds lite. But it doesn't seem as quick as the 651.167.19 upgraded to. 21 through moto cast.
Anyway to get back to that? Is rds safe. As in can i flash the .19 through rds without damaging my phone?
Many thanks.

I've Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and i wanted to erase some stuff I had. My phone was rooted and have a rom. But i've accidently erased my setting from my Titanium back up... All the sudden my setting disappeared and if i drag the thing down from the top of my phone and press the setting on top right coner, then my phone says "Unfortunately, system UI have stopped." I've gotten very frustrated idk why but i've hardcore reset my phone...Stupid me... My root is gone, my titanium backup is all gone now i can't even go to my setting... I've tried to plug it to my computer but i couldn't get to my setting to press mass storage check option, or even developer's option... Only way i can fix it is throughout downloading an app or something...
Here's a solution that I havn't tried which is downloading a odin app to root my phone without my pc and after rooting it, downloading the titanium backup and if any of you guys have any backups that is available for me to copy and restore your setting to my phone, then it might work... idk i'm very stupid so i don't know if that would work... PLEASE HELP ME!!!
Or is there a way to get another motherboard to my phone or like other parts and just replace to be like an new phone...? I don't want to spend over a $100 i'm very poor...

You said you're on a ROM? So just reflash the ROM abs problem solved. Of not just download superuser from play, root doesn't get erased with a factory reset just the app. As a final solution just Odin to stock and restart from scratch

No but thing is that i can't reflash my ROM because it's not rooted. Also if i wanted to get rooted and let say i use something like Z4root or framaroot, i can't install those apps into my phone because I can't change the developer's option from my setting... When i try to do with my computer, it won't recognize because I can't even go into the mass storage or pictures import or other settings... Is there any ways to download apps with just moving the folders?

Hello,
I've managed to get my build.prop in a state where I can't update (I assume it's the build prop). I've tried the backups I have, but none of them are working. I'm currently on 4.1.1 and I was hoping someone has backup.
Thanks in advance!
for clarity: Verizon Galaxy Note II 4.1.1 Stock ROM, Stock Recovery, Rooted
The Failing update is update_SCH-I605_LL4_to_MC3 which fails with code 402
Download the stock ROM in Development and pull it from there

I Downloaded the image and extracted it, now I have a "system.img" file which I assume contains the files but what do I do with it? I tried mounting/extracting and nothing worked.

Using ES File explorer. Setup up your root explorer. and change permissions by using tools to System R/W.
Use ES File explorer to open the stock download and navigate to system/build.prop Copy it. Go back to your system and Rename the one there to build.bak. Then paste the new one there. This way you have the original saved if it turns out not to be the build.prop. My guess is. If you are on a rooted, stock rom like you said. The build.prop's are going to be identical. Thinking the culprit might be whatever you are trying to Odin is bad.

I didn't know you could explore .img files with a root explorer, of course I have never tried either.

So I pulled the build.prop from a stock image, but it turned out it perfectly matched one of my backups. (I had three backups, factory, factory that I played with, and OTA Stock). So in the end that didn't solve my core issue. At this point should I make a new thread with a more appropriate title or just continue this one?

Actually you can't... I ended up using "Android ICS JB EXT4 imagefile unpacker" for windows, which worked nicely.

I would say just continue this thread.
I just re-read your original post. Are you trying to update from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 via the OTA? If so, build.prop isn't your issue.

alright, detail time!
I'm currently on 4.1.1 (I've applied one update after I bought it on release day)
I have an ota update (to what I assume is 4.1.2)
stock everything, locked boot-loader, but rooted (used Exynos Abuse)
using SuperSU
my phone lists update_SCH-I605_LL4_to_MC3 which fails to install with error code 402
my device status IS "modified" but it appears to be related to the SD card as it is "normal" when I remove it (apparently a known issue)
normally when I get an update I do the following:
1. restore build.prop
2. remove busybox
3. remove/disable any other apps that may have played with files that I think could cause issues
4. double check my root backup (Voodoo)
5. temp unroot
6. update
7. restore root
8. enjoy
this method usually works without issues :/
and the reason I suspected build.prop in the first place is that restoring it allowed me to update on another device.
I'd really rather not have to flash it back to stock, but if it's my only option, I will. So any ideas that don't involve wiping everything would be wonderful!

Really the only thing I have seen to update is to go completely back to stock.
But why do you want to do this so badly? Why not just unlock and flash the new update rom Beans provided? Thats certainly the easiest way to do it in my opinion, since you're having all these issues, and it leaves you unlocked in case you don't like one of the future updates or if you want to test out AOSP.

I rely on my phone a lot and so even the short amount of time it would take me to fix a soft brick, or reconfigure a wiped device would be a problem. I'm not worried about bricking it, I'm worried about the time it takes to fix it. I soft bricked my old X2, and it was a real inconvenience (granted that was the first time I'd ever had to fix something like that) and I had to restore my Transformer Infinity back to stock to fix lag and glitching issues. (which lead to a whole partial root fiasco). So It's not that I can't fix the problems, it's that it takes time I don't have, and disrupts my life. If I had another 4g phone (because switching between 3g and 4g is a pain on Verizon) that I could switch to if I messed up and didn't have time to fix it, I'd totally start messing with custom roms, unlocking, and all that fun stuff, but I don't

Well unlocking would let you go ahead and update and until you wanted to flash roms you wouldnt have to except for that first flash of the new update, which is what a stock update does.
The reason I say this is some people have had this problem and when they finally do get the update to work it soft bricks them. This is rare but it has happened. In the end for me it is just easier to unlock so I can play around when I want to and when I dont I can stay on stock.

Ok so i don't know how to say this but. I had rooted my phone. Then i wanted to get Facebook Home, so i deleted the file for facebook(because usually you aren't supposed to be able to delete facebook just un-install the updates.) And then time passed and i unrooted it, next day it got stuck in a bootloop and i fixed it. But now i can delete facebook. Does anyone know the file to put it so i can't delete it just un-install to stock lg l9 facebook. And where to put that file so it won't fully delete?
I would really appreciate it if you can help!!
Also i had to factory reset so there is no backup.

How about rooting your device again and deleting all the unnecessary apps? When rooted go to system/app and delete it.
