Let's sue Samsung for their Intellectual Property. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Let's take 'em to court, and have a judge command them to give their code to us. I invented a way in 2012 to unlock the bootloader, and want to make sure that they don't have my Intellectual Property.

Good luck with that

I will sign on to this if you join my suit to force banks to publish everyone's pin codes on their websites. I'm tired of banks thinking we can't be trusted to have access to other people's accounts without stealing from them.

Do you not have anything else better to do?

As this will surely go downhill (as it already has) and is not really device specific, I will be closing this one.

Exemption that makes rooting legal about to expire

Not sure when or the likeliness of this not getting extended but thought it'd be worth sharing. The exemption that makes jailbreaking the iphone and rooting android is going to run out and if it doesn't get extended, these activities could be deemed illegal.
http://gizmodo.com/5879180/jailbreaking-or-rooting-your-phone-could-become-illegal-again-fight-it
The above article suggests signing a petition at the EFF (link to petition below):
https://www.eff.org/pages/jailbreaking-not-crime-tell-copyright-office-free-your-devices
Lol If it becomes ''illegal'', then XDA is going to have to change their site policies. Oh no!

I thought it was all about Apple too, but they did make reference to Android in the article. But it never was that big of a deal before with Android, was it? I just hope carriers don't look at this as an opportunity to pounce on the users.

I am sure they can twist the Legalese to say that you own the device, but Apple merely let's you lease software at no cost to you. This means that they still own the software, and if you modify it, it's illegal.
Gotta love EULA's. Check out iTunes one, it actually says that you cannot use iTunes to develop nuclear weapons... I am sure they could easily hide the "We own the software, so you cannot jailbreak it" somewhere.
Should not apply to Android, since it is open. Google could possibly pull a very **** move, and say if you root it, you lose the license to use gapps and market, but that is highly unlikely.
Android is and always will be open source. As long as android is Linux based rooting and modding android will always be legal.

This, all of this. I don't care what they do for Apple's ****ty software and operating system, but Android is open source and is licensed under ASL2.0. You can read about it all here: http://source.android.com/source/licenses.html
ASL2.0 is basically granting permission to do anything with it so long as the license is distributed with it, and that you indicate what exactly you've changed in each file you've changed.
Open source is open source is open source.

Paranoia? Wouldn't trust myself with one personally. (I like guns, but I don't have sufficient training to use one responsibly, and I don't believe that 99% of people do either.) But this isn't a gun debate ;-)
Insane to try and make 'rooting' illegal. What a complete waste of the earths resources. Only reason for this is to try and please the money makers.

I AGREE!! the way I see it once I give them money for the device I can do what ever I want to it because it is no longer their property, it's mine!
so if they want to not honor warranties then that's fine but making rooting illegal it completely stupid and I don't see how they could stop people from doing so...

Nfc bounty google wallet??

I would really love the ability to use google wallet with NFC!!!! I know its been talked about here and there and the whole phone ID thing..etc.. but i am willing to put up $25 ...i am on ICS OBJECTION if it matters.. any takers ..any others willing to contribute??? Moderators if i am not supposed to post bounty, or if the flamers show up.....just shut it down!!
thanks !!!!
I'm not too sure, but I thought you could edit the phone ID through build.prop. Also, there really is no reason to start a bounty. Google Wallet should be available to the AT&T g-note when the official ICS update is out.
What's with people posting for bounties lately. If its important enough a recognized dev will address it sooner than later.
Leave the bounties for big stuff like, for example, opening playbook QNX bootloader to accept googles android as a native boot option.
Now THAT I would gladly pony the cash for.
Sent from my SGH-I717R using xda premium
It's not that simple. Having NFC isn't the only hardware requirement to be able to use Google Wallet. Google Wallet has to be able to store your card details on a separate chip within the phone - the secure element. To do this, Google Wallet has to have full access to the secure element. So far it seems that Samsung have not given Google the authentication to access the Note's secure element, and if that is indeed the case then no developers outside of Samsung will ever get Google Wallet to work.
Agree that bounties for everything is dumb. As far as I know, no one has gotten wallet working on a non nexus device, so the odds are against us.
i offer a bounty because google wallet w/nfc is BIG to me .. we all want different things, i know a few people(devs) have tried, but this is something i would really LOVE to have and use.. but if it is not possible to do on this device, then it is what it is and ill go about my merry way ...HOWEVER ..if someone can accomplish this maybe with a bounty it will be worth it for someone to get knee deep into
thanks again ..if someone say that it absolutely can not be done..please close

relax homey..if the note has said "chip" (your post does not say the note does NOT have the chip..maybe someone can gain access to this "secure element" ..thats what developers do..they figure these things out if they can.. i am not demanding anything, i simply asked and posted a bounty.. sometimes bounties bring out the developer in people...its money!! sometime free doesnt cut it..i make donations to the devs when i can, i dont freeload. i also try to help people when i can ... and my post also says if it can not be done then so be it ..thanks for the response

According to some I should just put up with whatever BS people throw at me. Including people calling me a *****, basically a coward and so on. Actually taking personal digs at me and so on. So I just set the level of development back to where it was before the new year. You still got Gerrett, JamieD81 and pmtr3 to take care of you. They will do a good job. Just not going to continue to contribute while being told that I am obligated to tolerate lazy non contributing people. I am not looking for praise, donations or any self assurance. I do this for my own usage and share and then get flamed and called out for expecting people to follow the simple guidelines I lay out in my threads. I should expect people to act like asses and be OK with it. Well FU I refuse. bhaskell has now called me out in two threads airing my personal stuff that I posted on my own website not here on XDA and straight up flaming me and my ethics and so on. Whatever tough guy. I am done. My goo stuff is pulled, my kernel source is pulled so anyone redistributing it at this point would be violating GPL policies and XDA policy for that matter. bhaskell seems to be very knowledgeable about how I operate and how all of this works so maybe he can take up where I am leaving off.
Everyone take care

The above is incorrect, and anyone can distribute these kernel sources. You are also liable if someone were to request these sources via GPL, and legal action can be taken against you for failing to CONTINUE to provide source. If anyone wishes to upload it again, they are well within their rights to do so, per the GPL.
The GPL is not here to protect people who get pissy and have a nerd-rage.

I think they accomplished what we would all hope for profitability. Doesn't make the tech they put into the now called products they build any less just means they have to play by a different set of rules and the challenge to produce the same quality of work will be impacted. Sure as users we will lose and gain some features. I just hope they don't forget how they got to where they're at and start charging us or worse stop free rom development.
That's what I'm thinking. CM isn't going to be free anymore.

I'm pretty sure its illegal to sell something that's free/open sourced. CM cannot use android and make a Rom and then sell it. Android is open source.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk
True yes but then they are Inc. which means as soon as they are contracted to make a retail phone rom then why would they keep making a free rom. It maybe open source but open source does not mean free. May mean that you can use the codes libs and so on for your own development but if it were free red fedora and Ubuntu wouldn't be making money.

I don't believe it would be a bad idea.
