no update, no sim
Hi Guys
My friend is having the same problem however he doesn't have a SIMcard just yet. turned on his device and connected to wireless, checked for updates and it reports with no updates available for his device...bought the device in Australia. he doesnt don't get a SIMcard for another 2 weeks. Will he get updates once he insert his SIMcard or will he have to update via odin?
i was under the impression that Samsung will update their devices and then push it to our service providers to then push the update out to the user?
is this even correct?
Thanks
U can get the update even without sim card. Just download Samsung Kies on your laptop and connect your phone and upgrade the firmware using Kies.
This will do the update to jellybean

thanks for the information but i have already tried Samsung kies for updates it was the first thing i did and it says i have no updates available for my device. its good to know its not network (SIM) related but i still have the same problem of being stuck on 4.0.4 when i know a jellybean update is available!
if anyone know any information about this would be greatly appreciated... i have also found that my model number is the GT-I9300A
What the hell is that?.. it was bought from Kogan Australia

lol :silly: im not sure you know whats going on....
I have a NEW Samsung Galaxy S3 bought from Kogan Australia...
Out of the box it came with Android 4.0.4
I know jellybean (4.1.1) is available for the S3
FIRST i checked the phone for updates...Said my phone was all up to date.
Then plugged in my phone using Kies....Kies said the same thing.
Then went and had a look at the model number (BTW Kies didn't ask me for model number it figures it out on its own)
Turns out i got a GT-I9300A
Then searched the net for a Samsung galaxy GT-I9300A...Nothing came up.
Then decided to comment on XDA because i thought someone might know whats going on.
Found out i was wrong!

I had the same problem as you when I bought my s3 two weeks ago. I am from the philippines and the s3 I bought had a different region (kenya). Kenya is still pending on jellybean update. I could not update via OTA. It always says that it is up to date. Tried kies, same thing. I decided to flash via Odin the Samsung official firmware 4.1.1 from sammobile, choosing my country among the list. After flashing I did a factory reset which then registered my s3 to my country. All is well now as I am registered to my local network and can receive OTAs. And warranty is not voided.
Note : be sure your s3 is GT-I9300 unlock. HTH.

Sorry for the confusion. What I meant was my s3 was factory sim unlock (open line). I did not mean bootloader unlocked. If you have used different Sims then your good to go. Don't unlock the bootloader if you're going to flash official firmware, to keep warranty.

There is no JB update for Iran yet. If you want to have your JB experience then you have to download other countries' firmware then flash it manually. I suggest the UK-BTU version or rather go for Poland-XEO which is 4.1.2

Hi everyone,
I have a Rogers S6 Edge 64GB, and I was wondering If I would be able to download and flash a different carrier firmware from Sammobile? http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G925W8/
Since Rogers doesn't seem to be planning to update the phone to Marshmallow anytime soon, can I download the Telus or Bell 6.0.1 firmware and flash it on my Rogers variant? Or would that brick my phone/mess up the IMEI or baseband? My phone is 100% no root, still locked.
Thanks
Instead of making a thread and waiting for an answer you could of done a search and found your answer. It's yes you can install any Canadian firmware because they are all identical

Did it work?
Did it work using a differnt carrier firmware for rogers galaxy s6?
Just flashed AT&T PH1 on my replacement Verizon Note 7. All they changed was the battery. Device shipped with Verizon's PH1 firmware. Happy rooting!
EDIT:: DON'T UPDATE TO PHE OTA FIRMWARE OR ELSE YOU WILL LOSE ROOT CAPABILITY AND NOT BE ABLE TO DOWNGRADE TO PH1. ALL REPLACEMENT NOTE 7 ARE SHIPPED WITH PH1 (rootable) FIRMWARE STILL SO DON'T UPDATE.
I was not able to root ... tried 4 times.. was rooted with last Note 7. which method did you use? I get an error when flashing the Sprint firmware in odin.

its because along with the green battery, AT&T's update includes a new bootloader and checks that blocks Odin from downgrading the bootloader. in short, they patched the root method.

If you took the PHE firmware update you will not be able to flash any other carriers' PH1 firmware or root.

Thanks for the update. That reallys sucks.. The APH1 ROM was very nice and basically you can switch to any carrier you want.
This will kill some of the sales of Note 7. I hope Samsung is listening..

No. No one has uploaded AT&T PHE firmware yet unfortunately
Has anyone pulled the PHE software from another note 7 and tried to flash it to the AT&T Note7. Just wondering if it's still possible.

I'm waiting for AT&T PHE to be uploaded so I can flash onto my vzw note 7
hello, I am asking for, because I see a lot of people saying about diferent firmwares for each devices (AT&T, TMB, VZW, SPR) and the model is the same for all(G955U), I found in AFH an stock firmware but it says TMB, and I don't want to brick my device lol.
Can anyone share a firmware to our S8+ from Sprint???
If is possible, I am looking for QD9 version.
Thanks
without unlocked bootloader, you cannot flash anything. 955U has no unlock solution yet.
You can't Flash... but you can Odin stock firmware... anyone have Sprint stock firmware ?

I have noticed the baseband firmware is the same and there is a "user" firmware file that is strictly associated with the carrier. I have recognized this with Verizon and Sprint. ODDLY.. I have only seen these carrier firmware files included with the initial firmware release of the phone..
So Verizon launched its GS8 plus with one firmware release in advance of Sprints release of the phone.
So the two firmware files are NOT compatible given you are unable to downgrade and completely unprovission your phone.
Now .. I think the theory is that if you own a Verizon handset that has never received an update you can provision to Sprint .. granted you have the complete initial firmware set for Sprint.
