Hi there, after receiving a new RAZR since my last one broke, I decided that I only wanted to root it and install cyanogen mod onto it. Fast forward 5 months and now I've decided I want to install the new MIUI v5 but in order to do that I need to upgrade from 4.0.4 to 4.1.2. I downloaded the OTA update but after it attempts to install, it reboots and says update failed. Just some background info I have a GSM RAZR rooted and have safe strap on. Any ideas on how to make it not fail?

Thats probably because you removed some system apps, you need to flash ics again through rsdlite and then update to jb.

I don't think I removed any system apps though, I haven't uninstalled or disabled any apps that it came with.
You don't even need to upgrade. You can use this tool to install and boot MIUI without upgrading: http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/t...-between-jellybean-kernels-with-ease/?hl=dual

Hey guys I have a Razr V and I know there is basically no support for it on here but having a look around I managed to install Boot Menu Manager (BMM) recovery on it and it seams to be working fine.
Foolishly I tried to flash a CM10.1 ROM on it that is hardcoded to only work on Safestrap ROM slot 1. I can still access the recovery though and I was wondering if someone can point me to a ROM they may work with this phone (its stuck on ICS kernel and I'm not sure if there is a JB kernel I could flash)
This is good progress for us guys with this phone, I think its available in Canada, China and Australia. Anyway I'm trying to get a custo ROM on here and was wondering if some of you guys might be able to help me out.
Would I be able to flash a JB kernel for the XT910? The phones are very similar, but I don't want to try it if it will certainly brick my phone.
EDIT: at the moment my phone is boot looping on the CM10 screen so it is good news we may be close to getting a custom ROM on here, or maybe I'm just an idiot and have ruined my phone
Cheers
SUCCESS!!! I managed to boot into D-WIZ 3.01 ROM but I have no software buttons anyone Know a patch for this?

What were the problems with the rom you installed. Also to port roms you need a base like cm10 otherwise its pointless. Every custom rom not based on stock is cyanogen based. All roms like miui, pac, etc are all based on cyanogen. So if we can get a cyanogen mod built rom to boot on our phone we can then start modifying it get all the broken things to work once we have done that we can then create a devtree then compile our roms from source. Its a bit backwards but way quicker than starting from nothing.
The soft buttons was an easy fix but the other problems where the SD card wouldn't mount properly. (File manager and storage recognised it but the phone said it was damaged) and the camera force closed.

Hey, I too have a RAZR V, and I live in Canada. For MONTHS I've been waiting for JB, anything higher than 4.0.4, but Motorola is taking their sweet ass time with it.
I'm not very tech savvy, so I was wondering if you could post a tutorial, or a walkthrough of how you flashed CM10 onto your phone?
I can provide any information you might need, please let me know
I managed to get it to boot once but other attempts have been unsuccesfull. I sent RAZR V device info to whirleyes the developer of BMM and hopefully he can improve compatibility.
At the moment the only thing working properly is flashing zips. I've soft bricked my phone several times this week and I'm about to go on vacation for a month so i might try out again when I get back.
In guess the good thing about a locked boot loader is that it is almost impossible to fully brick
At the moment its trial and error sorry, I'm not sure how I got it to boot the first time and also camera and SD card didn't work.

I want to know how different the Chinesse version is from the Canadian version. Can i just flash the update and change the language settings later on. And also clearly the update file is named in English having the abbreviation "en" in the name of the file. Do you guys feel its safe to flash
I'm not sure but I do know once you go to jb you cant go back. Where did you download it from? Have you got a link?

Hi everyone,
I was wondering it it's possible to install the Motorola RAZR/RAZR MAXX (GSM) CyanogenMod 10.1 on my Motorola RAZR V X885?
I checked that both devices have the same specs.
The version that I want to try to install is the RC5. I would post the link, but, "ALL new users prevented from posting outside links in their messages". hahaha
Do u think I will get some trouble with this?
Thanks!

I was thinking exactly about doing the same thing, but I'm concern about using a ICS kernel with a JB rom. We should first try to flash a JB kernel. But I'm a bit loss with SafeStrap. Has anyone been able to boot something else in Slot 2+ ? I've tried to copy my existing system over these slot and it doesn't work. But I guess it has something to do with the kExec thing.
You can't do so. Your bootloader only allows you to install the system with the same signature. It won't pass the signature check to boot unless you backup and wipe mmcblk1p16(cid)

Hello everyone.
This is my first post and unfortunately, I need help!!
My wife has a droid razr that got the early xmas jellybean update. Phone has been rooted as well. My wife decided to download all sorts of root apps and installed the beats audio app without backing her stuff up. Well now the official jellybean OTA is being pushed to her phone, and she cannot update. I have tried via OTA, and sideloading the file that I pulled.
This is the error she gets:
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/lib/libwebrtc_audio_preprocessing.so", install aborted
Is there a way and can download the original files that were supposed to be there before beats changed it??
Thanks for your help!

I'm not gonna sit here and pretend like I know how to do that, sooo....whaaa? lol
Where do I need to download the firmware? Do I have to download one for the xmas jelly bean release?
Also, I tried downloading just the audio_.......... files off 4shared and replaced the one in my file system. That did not seem to do the trick. Do I have to have a specific copy of it??
Thanks

Look at the stickies in your phone thread and there should be a thread about reverting to stock. Just follow the guide there and you should be fine.
If it doesn't revert to the latest version then you will receive an ota notification. If you want to make sure you are on the latest firmware just go to setting-software update.

I really just can't figure this out. I don't know which files I need to use. I've also never used rsd lite or flashed any files. Can anyone please help out?? There are so many roms and files on this forum. So confused.
This goes against most thinking in regards to Jelly Bean, but it seriously screwed up my phone when I got it. I had to have Verizon send me a new device because it was unusable. plus loosing my wifi tether just sucked.
How can I stop this stupid update? I don't want it to auto download, I don't want it to install and I'm getting sick of getting notified about it.
Please help me
Verizon Rooted Stock Droid Razr Maxx.
I have never used a custom rom, but if that is my only option at this point, can someone please point me to the most reliable and some seriously detailed info on how to install one...I've never done any of that, just rooted to get rid of bloatware.
thanks

If you screwed up your phone, just reflash your system version's fastboot file using RSD Lite. It will reflash all of your system files, no root needed. You also can easily update to jellybean because there's already a fastboot file for the update

You have a cdma phone, I would go for one of these two roms.
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-razr-roms/214917-simplex-v1-3-ics4-04-10-1-2012-revival.html
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1795493
I have been using these two roms for ever, and im always coming back to them after trying different roms.
These two roms are really tweaked with a lot of nice customing and NO Blur, marvelous battery and speed!
Simplex has more customations but is a little bit bigger and comes with Apex Launcher in it. Eclipse is a little bit smaller and comes with a smaller ''eclipse launcher'' baked into the rom. Eclipse also have reverted colours in calendar and gmail, this means black background instead of white. I would go fro Eclipse rom with maybe Nova Launcher, the standard launcher can be uninstalled with Titanium Backup. If you do not really care about customation just go for the rom clean
The two roms are so stable that I run them on my stock:slot in Safestrap, no worries...
- You need Safestrap to install, read this thread and install!
(with safestrap you can do a nandroid backup of your whole room when everything is just the way you want, this way you will never loose anything!)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2073413
- After just read the rooms threads on how to install, it's really simple
---------- Post added at 05:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:47 AM ----------
This thread is also a must read! Here you get deeper explanations about what you are asking, but I would still go for one of those roms i mentioned!

A simplified answer is just remove a Motorola app and the JB download will not install because it requires ALL original Motorola apps to install. Even if you hit install it will not. That's what I did on my 2 razr's.
So if you removed the bloat it should not install anyways.

If you hit install, It will try to install the JB update but it will fail half way through the install process and giving you the message "update failed, operation aborted" or something like that. I did it on both my razrs. The only way for me to install the JB update was to use the RDS lite and fast boot the original ICS files.
i feel like i remember seeing some word of having to update to the 4.2.2. OTA update in order to flash 4.2.2. roms onto my optimus. right now im running SlickJB (4.1), and want to update, but i dont have a lot of free time to fix my phone if i brick it. can anyone point me towards how to update to the latest OTA so flash some newer roms?
You would want to either use LGNPST to flash stock 4.1 or Tinybin
I used Tinybin to update (I had to use the altbin to get my phone to boot)

If you take the official OTA you will definitely get a locked bootloader, and lose root. Root may be possible down the road but there are no guarantees. If you want to ensure root and an unlocked bootloader you need to follow the directions in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578458
Is there going to be a zip I can flash in twrp to up date with out having to be on a rom just on the 4.3.1 I don't have access to a computer and never used odin some help would be nice this my first Samsung all I my other phones were moto and we're different doing the updates

My question is I think I want to jump to 4.3, but I'm not sure how. I am stock rooted with locked bootloader. I'm still on 4.1.1 with VRALJB. I was always satisfied with the stock rom so never saw the point in unlocking the bootloader. What is the easiest way for me to update since I'm really not interested in root access anymore?
My question is why would you want to go the VZW 4.3 OTA? As previously mentioned, you'll lose root access, end up with a locked bootloader, and likely get a bunch of bloatware. There's plenty of 4.3 custom ROMs out there that will do much more for your device.
I dont want that. I'm new to the note 2. I've been on moto phones with locked bootloaders. So I've not had to worry bout locking down my bootloader until now. Ive rooted my note 2 and installed roms on it. Im just trying to find a update that I can use with out installing a rom in order to get to 4.3 1.
I've never used odin and don't have access to a computer right now. In starting to think that i can't get to 4.3.1 with out a computer. Was just hoping I could use twrp to flash a mod version of the update to get there

So far I have not seen any reference to a recovery flashable firmware file...odin only. That said, with a computer, odin is really easy to use so when you get to a PC you can do it in about 3 minutes.
So can I just do the mod update and not have to install the rom or it a package deal ? Just asking cuz with the razor all I had to do was the update .
