[Q] [REQUEST] [POLL] Ubuntu touch port for LS970
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I agree! I want this on our E970. I would be SO happy
Sent from my LG-E970 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
We have it running. We just need to modify the kernel and some binary files.

Porting to e970 will be easier then ls970. We can boot mako kernels n Roms. Just device specific changes need to be made like captive keys sd-card ect.
The obvious is the asserts and partions need to be changed in the update zip.
Sent from my Optimus G using Tapatalk 4
I already said we have it running using the mako build. We are the same device man.
I'm booting using the Mako kernel on my Sprint LG OG.

Either way the ls970 won't have CDMA working for now, so I haven't really pursued it. I'll look into fixing ofono though.

So if you have it running, is there a flashable zip that I can use already? I've wanted to try Ubuntu Touch for so long! Once it's ready, I'd love to try it. Is there any special steps as well? TWRP works?
So let me see if I understand this:
Download saucy-preinstalled-touch-armel+mako.zip and saucy-preinstalled-touch-armhf.zip from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-touch/daily-preinstalled/current/
Remove asserts in one (or both?) of the zips in the file located at meta-inf/google/android/updater-script
Flash armel+mako.zip first, then touch-armhf.zip second
Reboot and it should work?

Only need to get rid of asserts in mako. Other than that, you're right on.

And I assume android apps can't run in ubuntu touch? Does rear camera, texting, and calling work in GSM? MMS?

No android apps do not work. No idea on the rest. I would think most of those would work but maybe not MMS. No way for me to test though.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
If I wanted to port it to the E970, could I just use our device tree for android, and modify the needed flags for it to compile correctly? I think that would work...
Sent from my LG Optimus G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I've tried to remove assets but I keep getting error in update-binary, so I replaced the binary with one from a CM rom for our phone, and same error. I tried to change the assets from mako to geeb but still no luck
I barely messed with Ubuntu Touch during my short time on the N4 conversion. My question is: Are the features of desktop Ubuntu available on Touch? If so, I absolutely love Ubuntu and would definitely enjoy this. Haven't done too much research on it so I apologize if it's a dumb question.

The first articles I read months ago said Ubuntu Touch was going to be based on Cyanogenmod. So have they gone all the way & made a full-fledged mobile linux incarnation?

It used to be cm with Ubuntu running (chrooted) on top, then they flipped it, so it's Ubuntu running with only the necessary services from cm such as surface flinger (for display rendering) and rild (for radio).

Oh was it easy? Did you just follow the steps given in the forum for this rom? And can you do it all from your phone or do you need a pc?
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda app-developers app
Once you have rooted and unlocked the boot loader and have a recovery installed then you can install the roms from the phone in recovery on the phone. But to unlock you do that with the pc

It's something I stumbled on by accident. Much like the pinch to zoom function on the home screen that will hide all the icons and the ability to resize and change your app icons by holding down on them and then touching the purple thing in the upper right hand corner.

Hi all, this is a tweak I made to my Sprint LGOG Roms and it works for the ATT LGOG. Just flash the zip, wipe dalvik and cache and reboot. Makes your screen super fast and twice as responsive! Enjoy! Note: For Sprint Stock based roms and CM/AOSP based roms.

most the code is already up on my github
just need someone with a device and some know how to finish it up
@Zarboz
I have one suggestion.....
instead of sweep2wake, if u have partially done the code to register a touch event..... can you make it that tapping 3 times quickly on HOME KEY, wakes it up???
For LOCKING, we can think of anything else, but for that, we have several apps that save the power button hassle.
Its actually a FEATURE of the new LG G2..... and accidental unlock will be RARE coz 3 times tap of Home key is unlikely.....
I think it will be easier for you and UNTIL S2W arrives with full option, this will be a suitable alternative, at least for me.
Regards
Yasir

Right now the touch listen code is too far up in the actual touch function therefore rendering the panel unresponsive currently
i dont have a unit to test on and most the people who own them are on the oppposite side of the world so time when were both awake and at a PC is rare
You could easily register something like that take a look at github.com/flar2
he has code for DoubleTap2wake
and other things like you mentinoed but they run off the same principle and base code that s2w runs off of though
It's really hard to 'accidentally' trigger S2W on the HTC One V. I don't think it'll be an issue if you guys get S2W working on DX.

So, I'm sure I'm not the only person here that wouldn't mind seeing a build of Ubuntu Touch available for our devise. BUT, it would most likely have to be done through safestrap.
Would any dev be willing to work on this??
This would be awsome :good:
Idk if Ubuntu Touch could be done on Loki, but definitely not safestrap. I started porting it to the Note 2, which is a lot easier to work on then our phone, and it basically is based on a modified CM/AOSP tree & kernel.

I'm still working on it on the note 2 ut, I'm just learning. That phone has a fully unlocked boot loader on an exynos processor, so the kernel stuff is just simpler than on our Qualcomm Snapdragon's.
I just know that to run a totally different OS, even if it is still Linux based, requires heavily modified low level kernel code and safestrap unfortunately can't touch that.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
This might be a dumb question but since unlocking the bootloader
is so hard maybe we should try to find a way to get past the LG Security error without
unlocking.
The phone checks for images signed by LG on boot up. Unless LG decides to release custom roms we're stuck with the wonky method.
Sent from my LG-P769 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
And there is no idea what the LG signature is/looks like? We need to get someone from LG who is like a whistle blower lol.

There is the bootstrap (i think thats what its called) allowing you to dual boot your stock and custom rom. But that needs a good dev to port it to this phone.
