Hey guys, i'm thinking to switch phones and would like ur advice on this lg p768 ( with the 8mp camera). I would have liked the p765, but only the p768 is available in my country and its priced about 221usd here.
Thing is, i'm choosing between galaxy s3 mini and this one. But i'm bored of touchwiz, its good, but samsung phones have some degree of lag; this coming from a galaxy s3 with jb which my friend lent to me. I like LG UI too, it looks clean, cartoonish and with great launcher transitions, its lockscreen is pretty sweet too.
The only things i fear are: The screen, its covered with plastic and when u press hard, u can see the "ripple" of lcd, the phone felt too light when i held it. Is the viewing angle good? Can u get decent view under sunlight? Did these affect u in ur usage?
Is the camera performance good? Bcause i would like to take snaps of friends, myself, nature etc... I don't usually record, but it could come in handy... Does stock lag on daily usage or when heavy multitasking?
How is the sound quality and video playback? Does music sound good? Can it play 1080p videos with no lag on Mx player?
I mainly use camera, listen to music and watch videos and i need good view in sunlight conditions. Surprisingly i don't use internet much. And how is battery life?
Edit: oh yes, i will stick mainly with stock, and use custom roms only if they are really good or official cm10.2. I'm also hoping for ubuntu to come.. How is development going for the phone, does it have a good future with custom roms? Is there any official cyanogenmod?
Thank you
How much is a S3 mini in your country? Looking at the difference:
S3 has 5MP Camera while P768 has 8MP; plus for L9; and I think the camera for P768 is good.
S3 has 8/16G Internal memory while L9 has only 4MB (and not very friend to use). If you are going to have custom ROM and external memory anyway, not a big deal; but otherwise you will prefer S3 mini on this;
S3 mini 1500 mAh battery; L9 2150 mAh; plus for L9
For the screen, L9 has 4.7 inch while S3 mini is 4 inch. I can't feel the difference between the IPS LCD and Super AMOLED in terms of viewing angle or under sunlight. They are both good to me.
Sound quality is low for L9, in terms of volumn, comparing to Samsung.
As for ROMs, there are official CM for P760, both 10.1 and 10.2. With some tweak, they work for P768:

Thanks for the reply, the s3 mini is approximately the same, i think its slightly cheaper too (i thought it would be more expensive). Hmm considering that s3 mini will get the 4.2.2 update, i think i might go with it, the pictures look better too on the s3 mini. Both have flaws, but i think that s3 mini might be better suited for me, because i usually tend to stay with stock.

Currently have an S4 mini, which i am finding a superb, fast lightweight device, that suits all my needs apart from the screen size is a little too small for my ageing eyes.
I cant afford an S4, so thought id ask in here a few questions:
Will i notice some lag and slow down?
The battery life lasts well over a full day for my uses, i know this one is difficult but how is the battery on an s3, will i notice much difference?
I have a couple of games, Asphalt 8 runs a dream on the mini, on high graphics not a hint of slow down, how will I find this and similar games on the s3?
Listen to a lot of music and have a full 16GB sd card, the sound quality is amazing and there is no hiss through the headphones at all between tracks and quiet areas of music, which on my old Galaxy note really suffered from, hows the sound quality on the s3?
GPS, the mini is pretty much instant finding sats, my old s2 was awful, hows the s3?
I cant compare cause i havent use a S4 mini not even to test but on paper ... S3 is better in my opinion.
The only thing worse is ram ... i guess u have 1.5 GB ?
And also support as we dont know if will get 4.4.*
Other than that i have a modded S3 with S5 looks and some functions all around with performance as good as it gets

Hi guys!!!!!I have a galaxy ace 2 and an xperia tablet z,but now its time to upgrade my phone...
Im thinking the z2 and the g3.if i put it side by side i would choose the z2 for these features
1 water proof and dust proof
2 front speakers
3 bigger battery
and of course the 3 gb ram
the experience i have from my tablet is perfect, never had a problem and has a huuuuuuge battery (6000mha)
the only thing that put me into thoughts is that everyone are saying about the poor service of sony and that is a shi**y company
.I dont see that on my tablet but i feel that i must ask you what do you think about these two phones now that they are in our hands
do you have any problems about z2? what do you think?
No problems with Z2 here, I had same dilemma I bought the Z2 over G3 because of the RAM, real world battery performance seems much better due to larger battery and no 4k screen and camera.
For me, majority of customer service are sh**tty they will try evade from warranty repair or replacement but in the case of there is a money involved im pretty sure you will be entertained. Anyway for me, I don't judge based on customer service but the product itself and updates of software. So for me, z2 is much more reliable and better than others cause of overall aesthetics, usefulness of application such as walkman, camera and movies, water resistant my how I loved this feature, and lastly the great battery life. The wishlist only I have is a better front facing camera. Qhd is just a gimmick for me I did compare from z2 and its not a really big difference to compromise the battery life. Rather had a great battery life than a little difference of display quality. I hope sony doesn't bring that qhd from z4 and unless they dont compromised size and battery.

Z2 all the way
Great design, best battery life, good performance and of course the waterproof!!!
g3 is overrated with qHD and bigger screen!!!
what about the warming problem that many say? Any lag problem? Have you had any software upgrade?
And the last thing that im really curius, why the other brands dont make a 3 gb ram phones?(except the big and pricy G3)
in my eyes the z2 even though it is close to 1 year old phone,is equal than the g3
last question(i promise) if i take the z2 is it possible to have 3 years more with the latest firmwares(custom roms) etc
and will it be possible to run the future apps?
Ive personaly compared those 2 and i can say that the camera of the G3 is better than the Z2 (z2 makes better daylight ones tho). 2 Gb of RAM can still handle everything and it will be like that for a long time (3Gb are a showoff for now). The screen of the G3 is way better and we know why , Just the battery backup is abit worse for the G3. For videos Z2 also wins. With a mod G3 can reproduce 60fps of 1920x.. and its still laggy. I personaly can't talk about design..Z2 wins in every aspect + the waterproofness aswell as you mentioned.Speakers of Z2 are better also. Its up to you.LG have a vry friendly interface with good stuff in it and ofcourse a infrared and a vry helpful buttons on its back.
Thank you guys, I'm probably going for the z2, I ll try to watch more reviews but I think that the xperia is going to be my next phone.... Thanks again
Hello,
I currently own xperia z2 but I'm thinking about changing to lg g3.
I've already had lg g2 and those devices have nice os as they have some features from Samsung.
I don't care about 1gb ram less or even waterproofness, but I'm wondering how the daily usage is.
When I've been trying the lg in a local store it seemed a bit laggy in animations. Also I'm wondering if the audio encoder for headphones has been improved, as there was some weird noise on lg g2 when listening to quiet music.
It would be nice to know the opinion of people who have already used g3 and z2, as they will probably know which one is better.

I upgraded from lg g3 to z2 and i never been happier since and i don't regret it!!! I won't change back even if i get it for free((?))
QHD is overrated and on a 5.5 screen you'll find no difference ((only if you see with a magnifier))
To keep it simple here's a comparison for you :
LG G3 over Xperia Z2
Bigger screen - 5.5" vs. 5.2"
Higher resolution screen - 1440p vs. 1080p
Improved low-light laser-assisted auto focusing
Dual-LED true-tone flash
32GB of built-in storage is an option
IR blaster
The back cover has wireless charging support
Xperia Z2 over LG G3
IP58 certification for dust and water resistance
Bigger, higher resolution camera sensor - 1/2.3" 20.7MP vs. 1/3" 13MP
More RAM - 3GB vs. 2GB (on the 16GB LG G3)
4k, [email protected] and [email protected] video recording
Stereo speakers
Bigger battery - 3,200mAh vs. 3,000mAh
ANT+ support
Noise cancelling headphones
If you prefer screen resolution and size go g3
If you prefer performance, build quality, good camera, ram and ip58(like me) go z2
The post above sums up why i went for Z2 over any other device
I would even now simply because the price is good for what it is
1080p is still a sharp screen and with the Z2 camera you can take near profetional quality

Thanks for the answer, now you convinced me to stick to Z2.
I can see some info copied from the Internet
I know the specs exactly, but the performance for me is the most important.
Even the smallest laggs in OS annoy me very fast, so I guess I'll stick to Z2, although nothing can beat the OS from HTC One m8.

I disagree on HTC ONE m8 performance!!! Nothing beats the speed lagless AOSP!!!
htc sony samsung.... OS is a modified AOSP based OS!!!
I tried AOSP roms on my z2 they are snappy and very fast but they lack some of sony apps which i need like 4k recording, camera apps and ultra and stamina mode so i switched back!!!
If you don't care about these sony apps try AOSP and you'll see a big difference in speed!!!
I recommend pacman rom and kernel m5... Lightniiiiiiiiiiiing!!! [emoji298] [emoji298] [emoji298] [emoji298]
Yeah, I've been talking about stock based roms, where the htc is a king. Of course all of the clean android roms are faster, but the days I've been using it are gone along with note 2, as samsungs roms were always laggy.

I'm just writing this to share my experience of the Galaxy alpha, I'll keep updating this as I think of more stuff to write. I'll also post pics when I can
But first I got to say this is an amazing phone, especially at the price I got it for, $270 new for the 850A,
I'm most impressed with the battery life, I average about 3 hours and 30 minutes of screen on time, and that's over 12 hours, right now it's at 11 hours with 1 hour and 30 minutes of SOT, with 53% left, If I push it I can get 4 hours SOT
Also I'm also surprised with the display, I came from a G3 with a 2K display, and before that an HTC One, you do notice the pixels about 6 inches from your face, and you shouldn't have it that close anyway, at about foot away it looks as sharp as my mom's G2
I'm not terribly impressed with the camera
Its takes very good photos outside, better then the G2, but in low light it's probably the worst I've ever seen
But one positive is the camera lens, it's very scratch proof, my mom and I got our phones at the same time, and used them the same, hers is full of scratches (my G3 was the same) and mine has not one speck
That's what I'm going to write so far, let me know if you have questions, I'll keep updating this thread with pics and more stuff I find to write about,
I also came from the G2 and I think the upgrade to Alpha is really good.
The best thing about the Alpha is its responsiveness (especially in lollipop) is the closest to an iPhone i've seen from an android device. It also kills the g2 in gaming---try running GTA San Andreas on G2, its hardly playable.
FOr the screen, I love the AMOLED Contrast but the resolution is horrendous due to the pentile display halving the already little 720p resolution. I really hope they atleast made it 1080p.
I also think the size is perfect. Onc eyou go back to smaller form factor you realize that the large size is overrated and you dont really need that much large device.
Low resolution was great choice from samsung if you dont use binoculars when you're using it you can't discover anything. Also it affects great buttery life so if you want sharper display (my opinion is that is unnecessary ) take g4 or something with this absolutely unnecessary thing .. also the performance is better cause the cpu dont have to count so many useless pixels like with fhd or 2k ...

I agree. I still prefer the amoled of the alpha overall since it really has great visibility, viewing angles and colors. The best thing is the responsiveness of the alpha due to the 720p.

If I hold the G2 and the alpha about a foot from my face you can't tell the difference, but I'd rather have a 720p display then 1080p just for the battery life, I think anything over a 5 inch display should have 1080 though
Thanks OP for the Review.
Agree that Camera is a little off compared to S5 it is probably same sensor as S5 BUT Samsung intentionally dumbed it down to 12 Megapixels to not compete with S5.
For low light indoors- move exposure to plus two (+2) AND use picture stabilization BUT picture stabilize takes a lo-o-o-ong exposure so rest the phone on something while you hold it and voice actuate to avoid motion- still not great like S6 but much better.
I am looking for a new sub 4.8” phone. I had S4 mini once and the size was perfect. I then upgraded to LG G2 and it is frequently inconvenient to carry. Actually, when I think about it, the weight might be more important then than size, so provided the phone is light, I could go a bit larger than 4.8"
The things I MUST have:
- good camera: At least on the S4 level
- very good battery life
- MicroSD card slot, OR at least 50GB internal storage
- Android M: from manufacturer, I need photo quality at the highest possible level so that rules out CM13
- root
Things it would be nice to have, but can live without:
- NFC
- dual sim
- waterproof
Things I do not care for at all:
- gaming: I have been using a smartphone since 10 years now, and not once I played a game on it
- production year: I don’t care if the phone is 2016 or 2013, as long as it fits the bill
Here are the phones I already considered and rejected:
- Xperia Z3c: perfect phone with clown camera
- Xperia Z5c: after 4 hours of research it looks like Sony again made the camera not very good (might reconsider if it turns out the camera is actually good)
- Galaxy S5 mini: I read it is a downgrade form S4 mini (but if it is only about GPU then I might reconsider)
- LG G2 mini: good camera, size and battery, but no M, LTE and 1 GB of ram is a serious tradeoff
- Redmi 3: bad camera
- Mi4c: so-so camera and battery life
- Mi5: size, so-so camera
- Meizu Pro 5: OMG this phone is PERFECT... Except for being a shovel. Such a pity they never completed Pro 5 Mini.
Suggestions and comments will be appreciated.

I'm really sorry but I wouldn't buy the Z5 Compact again. I really hate the battery life even though I'm rooted. I've been using the Z1 Compact for a year with an average life of 26-27h per charge and 5-6h SOT and I'm struggling to get 20h and 3-4h SOT with the Z5 now...
Not sent by me!

I'm not smartphone camera expert, but z5c camera is rather bad. 24mpx mode has absolutely no sense, 8mpx pictures look good until you'll zoom in and realize how much NR was applied and how much detail is lost because of it. Slapping 24 megapixels on less than one square inch was bad idea, now it's noisy even on lowest ISO values, and obviously this "lossless zoom" is useless because of noise as well. Sometimes i even wonder if it's not worse than camera from my previous phone, BB Q10.
I'd love to see RAW straight from z5c sensor, maybe this NR was just over-the-top and it could be processed better, but there is no way to shoot RAW with this phone (at least for now).

I suggest you get the z3 compact if you not too picky on the camera.....it offers you great battery life and its very cheap and plus tons of development....z5 compact is alright but the battery life isn't better than the z3 compact unfortunately and plus if you want root, you have to unlock the boot loader since there is not a root for locked boot loader yet......cant think of any other small phones that offers what you looking for unless you wanna get the iPhone 6s/iphone se.......just need to understand that every phone has its pros and cons. no phone can be perfect..
probably you've analyzed all the possibilities, tough you can still try on gsmarena site and use the "phone finder" menu to search the perfect phone for you
I'm not loving the phone but I'm not hating it either. For me it was a good buy.
1) Front dual speakers. They are good not perfect but much better than rear or side mounted speakers.
2) Water proof. This is a genius feature. I'm not planning to take a swim with the phone but if some beer get over it on a party... yeah I need no further explanations.
3) The Sony UI, at least on the Z5 lineup is more stock UI than e.g. the S7.
Sure the fingerprint scanner is trash (it never works on mine; hardware seems to work fine it's when your fingers are greesy or dirty) and the camera is certainly not perfect but good to use.
All in all it was a good buy for me.

I came from the s4 mini a few months back. Hands down the best phone I've ever had. The z5c doesn't beat it on much, I miss my s4 mini and contemplate going for one of the 64 bit versions daily.
The z3c would be a better option for you if you can live with side port charging. The z5c camera is worse than s4 mini IMO, some people manage to take decent photos with it but I can't. I imagine the z3c isn't much different in that regard. Also the footprint of the z5c is quite a lot bigger than the s4 mini due to the sharp corners even though they're similar in overall size. It makes holding it one handed feel sketchy. Pocket print is pretty large as well since the back has sharp corners as well, and the weight feels nearly doubled. Also battery life is a huge problem for the z5c, ~6hours use max with no replaceable battery. I carried an extra battery with me for my s4 mini and never had to plug in as I had two more on the chargers at all times ready to go.
Being in eu you might have better selection of the s5 mini. America only got the g800a and hasn't been rooted yet, Mexico got the g800m and has root but is impossible to find or I would have chosen that over the z5c.
There's not a lot of other options out there currently. S7 mini is rumored but I'm willing to bet the screen will be too large. H10 mini is rumored as well but I can't say if will have sd slot. More and more the iPhone SE looks like a good option as well.

Thanks for putting things in perspective.
How would you compare S4 mini and S5 mini? Battery life, usability, camera, etc. I read somewhere the latter could be even considered a downgrade. What S5 mini versions would you recommended root- and rom-wise?

I never ended up getting an s5 mini. My s4 mini stuck around for nearly 3 years before I went to the z5c. I personally would think it'd be an upgrade s4 mini to s5 mini as you get 720p and fingerprint scanner. Anything else is a wash. There's a lot of YouTube comparisons of boot up times, quadrant scores, and GTA San Andreas comparisons between the two. If you can use dual sim I believe that's the one most Roms are built for on that platform.
I have to admit front facing speakers are a huge perk to the z5c, I forgot to mention that in the first post. The little bit I do use this for audio or YouTube it's a pretty amazing feature, just not enough to out weigh all the wrong with the phone lol.
I say grab an s5 mini, they're dirt cheap right now, if it doesn't work out go z3c as those are dropping price fast as well.

From what I read, fingerprint reader on S5 mini is crap, and I had completely no problem with S4 mini resolution.
If anything else is a wash, then why take S5 mini over i9195i? I am reading it has fantastic battery life (some guy here got over 12 days of light use!) and quad core...
Decisions...
To go for S4 mini Plus, S5 mini, or wait for S7 mini... damn...
