Not enough available space for user apps?! - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have an unrooted Samsung Galaxy Grand I9080L (single SIM). It has 4 GB of internal memory... but it only allows me to download apps from google Play up to 1 GB of space occupied. So It remains with 3 GB of free internal storage, and google Play says no more memory space is available when I try to download a simple app.
Even more strange is the following:
I uninstalled apps to free about 40 MB of internal storage, and try to install a 1 MB app and IT SAYS NO SPACE IS AVAILABLE.
Any clues?
Thanks.

Hi, there are 2 possibilities I can think of so far, it is possible that the apps you install (most likely games, photo editors, music players, etc.), have created some files for themselves so that it can operate, therefore leading up to a lack of space. However, that wouldn't really happen if you have an external storage. I do recommend you to get one if you don't.
The second possibility is that the systems are already messed up, either doing a factory reset might help, or sending the device to a local Samsung store for service.
These possibilities might or might not help you, but the most important thing is that you should consult the authorized stores. Thank you for asking us here at the forums. If I did help you, please click the "Thanks" button below this post.
Sincerely, ATkeneiville

Maximum number of apps installed?

TI Backup is showing I have 456 apps installed which includes everything that came with the phone. I hear there is no limit (my old windows 6.5 phone was limited to 50 apps...after that all of the apps disappeared from the deinstall menu and you had to manually delete something to see them all again). Everything is installed to the internal card, nothing installed on the external SD card. I still have almost 9 gigs of free space so it is conceivable that 1500 apps is possible, though the phone may start to slow down at some point. With TI backup eating space along with the phone's built in android backup turned on I don't know how much of the free space will be eaten up.
So anyone over the 450 number?
There is a smaller area of the SD card put aside for apps..

I was on 448 but just downloaded another 3 to break 450. TiBu reporting 451 now. LOL
Beamed in from WinBorg 4G via XDA Premium app
I don't see why you can't have as many apps as will fit on the internal storage...

space for apps
If there is a finite amout of space available for apps then there is definitely an upper limit to how many apps can be installed. i may be close to the limit since i tried installing a large app from amazon and received a message saying there was insufficient space. After I deinstalled Angry Birds Rio the nessage went away and the app installed. So to increase the amount of available space for apps you either have to increase the amount of allocated space for apps (whereever that directory is), delete other optional files like pics and music, or perhaps reformat.....I remember seeing soem sort of reformat option somewhere...maybe this post belongs in the dev forum since they are savvy with the system.

Sounds like you need Apps2sd.
Yes. I just got apps to SD. I didn't know any apps were on the SD card, I am still curious exactly.how much space is available on the phone. I'll have to copy over the apps to my 2nd SD card.

Can't install app on my xperia S

I can't install app on my sony xperia , it say i need more space but my internal memory still have about 20gb free, can someone help me solve this
I think you are confusing 2 things.
The 20GB you are talking about can only be used for storing music, photos, ...
As far as i know, you only have about 1.5 to 1.6GB available for installing apps.
If you are running ICS, you can check this by going to settings => apps => select the 'downloaded' tab at the top. At the bottom of your screen it then says how much of the memory you have already used and how much is left.
Hope this helps.
so is there anyway i can use that 20gb to install apps and games
Yes
Move the apps to the internal storage memory(20gb one)
You can find it in settings>Apps>select the app you want to move and move it to internal storage.
Click thanks button if you find this info useful

[Q] Increasing App Storage

I have a Samsung I9100G and my App storage is 1.97GB.Something like 1.1GB is consumed by android system which is not showing and the rest is my apps but its not enough for me this phone has 13GB Total space in it and i want it all in one place my apps and my downloads - musics etc. i looked around trying to find how to do that but all i have found was to format SD Card. But thats not what i want my space is showing like this
Device Memory: 1.97GB
USB Storage: 11.00GB
it shows my space as usb storage i wanna change that to device memory so that i don't have any problems
My phone is rooted and i'm using 4.1.2
Don't tell me to open space with link2sd or something like that my apps are already on sd card and my storage is still filled up.
Have you tried the app DiskUsage from the playstore? It gives a great visual of what exactly is taking up your space. Could help you work it exactly what us consuming your space.

Yes im using it and i know whats consuming my space but thats not what i want to know o wanna make that 11GB usb storage my device memory
Well you can look into repartitioning your internal storage through an Odin flash but I STRONGLY recommend that you don't. It's one of the quickest ways to turn you i9100G into a brick.

Internal Memory problem

Hi all,
I have a problem with my internal storage: not all space (read almost nothing) is avaidable for me to use.
From the 1.97 gb can i only use like 650 mb.
The storage manager says the following:
Total space: 1.97 gb
Apps: 637 mb
Space free: 29 mb
So i miss 1.3gb of needed space.
I already tried to wipe my device, without succes.
And i also installed another rom, same result...
Anybody?
Thank you!

You can clear any accumulating log files by opening the dialog pad and tapping *#9900# Then delete dumpstate/logcat to remove them. This often frees up over 1GB of storage.

I can't believe this actually worked. Thank you.
Are these logs created by flashing custom roms etc or is it possible that my anti-technical grandma encounters the same problem?

Everyone gets them, like it or not. Even if your grandma were a rocket scientist.

Hope someone can help, my S2 ran low on memory yesterday and I found these great instruction which cleared 700mb of log files, it was fine all day and I checked the storage again last evening and it was sill OK showing about 750mb free.
Woke this morning to find the phone was low on memory again, with only 50mb free, I cleared the dumpstate/logcat again and its back to 750mb free now.
What could have created 700mb of log files overnight and how can I locate the problem?
Many thanks.
PS I'm not rooted any more as I hated not being able to use the banking or sky apps so I'm back on stock JB.

Is this true - internal storage only 2 gb???

I saw this on another forum. Is this true? It would make it unusable to me, and I just ordered one before seeing this. Do we not have at least 12 GB free for apps?
"..an issue I do not know how to resolve. It comes w 4.3 pre installed but the internal storage is not unified (due to USB storage enabled) so just under 2GB is allocated as app storage. This being the setup on older android version we had the option to move individual apps to the secondary partition b within the app option but this being 4.3 this option does not exist so this really puts a damperbn usability of this device."

I'm guessing this is the US variation of the Mate 2 you are taking about. I already have a lot of apps installed and it's still telling me I have 4.2 gigs available for app storage. Hope that answers your question

Does anyone know how much memory is available out of the box for apps?

If you add what it says is available to the what it says I'm using, it totals 6.81 GB. I doubt that includes system apps, as I said I have a lot installed. I had to keep them all on the phone because the ones I moved to the SD card the widgets didn't load on restart and I wasn't getting notifications.
Hope this helps you.

Thanks!
But 6.81 is pretty bad - some 16gb phones have around 12 gb for apps. What in the world is taking up so much memory? I need to install copilot maps which are over 4 gb plus all the other software I use. Don't know if this is going to work for me. Heck - I have almost 5.52 gb free for apps on a 8gb moto-g phone

Well, screen shots of my internal file system storage. My phone is rooted so I could free up more space deleting some system apps I don't use like Facebook but people had to reinstall the system apps they deleted to get the last update to install, and I don't feel like messing with that. I just disabled them. Can you install your co-pilot apps on the SD card?
Sent from my MT2L03
No, I don't think the maps can be loaded on sd card.
Darn - I purchased without checking this out - figured if my 8 gb phone had 5.52 gb free a 16 gb phone would have around 12. My fault for not doing proper research. Everyone was saying how much they like the phone. and I let that sway me. Guess I will send it back as 6.81 gb free in 2014 is almost $99 phone territory.
Looks like copilot is downloading fine. I'll let you know if I have issues after it completes.
It gives you the option to use extsd as default storage.
You are showing 12.69 GB available internal storage for apps. Is this correct? Or is it the 10.50 that is available to apps?
Yes 12.69 available. But when I go into settings > manage apps it states 5.8gb for apps. I believe it uses internal/external for app data, so I believe you'll be OK
check in the copilot options. maybe it has the ability to choose where to save the map data
NOKIA HERE does ... and its awesome btw
