Running 2.24.401.1 here on a Rogers (Canada) HTC One...getting the OTA as simple as:
adb reboot-bootloader
fastboot oem writecid HTC__102
fastboot reboot
Get the OTA
adb reboot-bootloader
fastboot oem writecid ROGER001
fastboot reboot
Voilà! Always go back to ROGER001 to get the LTE icon!
EDIT: 2.24.401.1 is not the current official Rogers software version...but I converted my phone to the international software using S-Off (revone), changing cid/mid, installing int. RUU.

Thanks for your answer. Yes, I try fastboot reboot, but "waiting for device".
Code:

Yes, I installed the drivers in windows 7 when I unlocked the phone.

The battery is discharged, I power on the phone and the bootloader start correctly. Thanks for your answers Pitrick! Greetings!
Just in case this happens again. When the phone refuses to shut off when holding the power button, you can flash a light over the light sensors and hold the power button. The phone will force shut down.
For some ODD reason that works. Read around and you'll see all the cases of this actually working. Why? I have no idea, but it does. LoL!!
The light trick prevents the phone from being rebooted in a pocket should the power button get depressed accidentally. It's a smart feature.

fastboot oem writecid causes Bootloader freeze
Can someone explain what caused this error and Bootloader Freeze?
Code:
C:\fastboot>fastboot oem writecid HTC__102
...
(bootloader) [SD_ERR] The project does not support SD card
(bootloader) E0902910 E0902E20
FAILED (status read failed (No such file or directory))

I too have tried using fastboot oem writecid and get the same error and frozen Bootloader. My CID is currently VODAP001 and I want to change it to 11111111 so I can flash some newer firmware. I'm Unlocked and S-ON.
Incidentally I have found when the Bootloader freezes all you have to do is hold the power button down for a good 10-15seconds and it'll power-off.

I discovered that the reason I cant writecid is because i'm S-ON. And because i'm on hboot 1.54 I cant S-OFF. And i cant find a nandroid backup or RUU for the CID=VODAP001 so I cant revert to stock to allow me to change hboot and/or S-OFF. So i'm stuck waiting on some genius coming up with a way to S-OFF hboot 1.54.

Yes. You want to use RumRunner. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2488772
I have a similar problem, my HTC one x is stuck in the boot screen! It will turn itself on, show the boot screen, vibrate and go black and it keeps repeating this cycle over and over until the battery runs out! I have tried the light trick, have tried pressing the power button, tried pressing power button and volume down but I can never get it to turn off and I can never get it past the boot screen either. Someone please help!

I installed the Modaco Rom 2 weeks ago, and it worked fine all the time

I guess I also had a similar issue this morning when I was trying to root my phone and it was stuck at 41% while updating ROM. I just did it again after plugging out the USB Cable and running the Ruu.exe and it updated the ROM within 5 mins. I guess in my case it was a case of my Windows getting hung (I was running it within Mac using Parallels), and it just worked after inserting the USB cable again.
Try running the update from another computer (after installing HTC Sync on that ..)
Good luck!
Hi guys, I have exactly the same problem.
One night the volume button would not work. So i rebooted to fix the problem. It rebooted into HBOOT. The screen with the 3 skateboards?
I only get two options
<Back> Fastboot Mode
The back button does not trigger fastboot!!
<Send> Simlock
Doing this only says
FAT32 Init Ok
Open File Fail
Reboot Device?
<Menu> Reset Device
I do so but it reboots directly into hboot again.
It also does a SD card check when it boots up onto this screen, says something like
herodiag.zip
etc etc
and it says not found i think, it goes very fast.
Anyway I am very frustrated. I was using Modacos 3.0. Without many problems.
I have a bad feeling that my phone is bricked.
Any help would be much appreciated.
And yes I have already tried countless combinations of button presses, all still go back to the skateboard screen.

this may sound like a silly comment, but to me it sounds like your VOlume Down button is stuck.
anyone else with a perfectly working hero can try this.
no matter what combination of buttons you press, if you have volume down pressed, it goes into hboot (or it seems to on mine, anyway)
O ok, any idea how I can sort of unstick it?
Seems like a good explanation.
on my cdma hero, following the directions i found online everywhere(hold home and boot) i was getting a HBOOT screen with only an option to erase all settings until i:
1. pop battery
2. reboot while holding vol-down, back arrow and power button
3. this time at the HBOOT screen there is an option to enter recovery mode(i think with a home press) fastboot or simlock
moisture in your HTC hero
It's possible that your 'volume down'-button is stuck because of moisture in you hero. I had the same problem. You have to warm your hero with warm air. CAUTION, make your hero NOT TOO HOT.
I was switching from sinister's v6 rom to decks. I booted into twrp recovery and wiped cache, dalvik, factory reset, and system. Then I flashed decks zip and then gapps. I then used adb reboot-bootloader to get back to the bootloader. From there I used "fastboot flash boot deckboot.img" (I changed the boot.img name to deckboot.img).
this is the message I recieved:
c:\Android>fastboot flash boot deckboot.img
sending 'boot' (1976 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.370s]
writing 'boot'...
OKAY [ 0.690s]
finished. total time: 1.070s
then I tried to reboot through adb but got this
c:\Android>adb reboot
error: device not found
so used the phone keys to reboot the phone. Now my phone will not show anything but the very first splash screen, which I think means my phone is bricked (****). I had h-boot 1.19, firmware 2.13, htc unlocked, and had s-on. I plugged the device into my computer but when using the command "adb devices" nothing shows up. It was weird because my computer recognized the device as something and was looking for drivers or something like QHUSB-DLOAD but did so to no avail. Any advice?
Can you get to the bootloader by holding volume down + power (I think that's the right sequence, anyhow)?

I would try that and if you are able to get to bootloader I would reflashed the bootimg without changing the name. Just leave it bootimg.

Okay so I tried doing that but no luck. The only screen I'm seeing is the white HTC screen that says the phone has been dev unlocked. It's weird that a few seconds after I let go of power and down I see the HTC splash screen and then it's back to black. At first I thought it was because I wasn't holding it long enough but after multiple tries it seems like the phone is waiting for me to let go of the buttons.
I got the advice to "Hold power and volume down for like 15 seconds. Take your finger off the power button for 2 or 3 seconds and repress it while holding volume down all the time" and I was able to get back to the bootloader. From there I went to recovery and redid wiped and flashed everything. It turned out I extracted the boot.img from deck's Evo 4G rom (dope!). Anyway everything is working fine for me now. Thanks for the help guys.

I'm on an at&t m8 kangakat ROM and s-off
I flashed the 1.16 radio (CWS 001 method) and I entered all the commands. It takes me to a black HTC screen with a progress bar. Eventually I'm done but after about 15 minutes I'm still on that screen. As soon as I unplug from the PC I instantly find myself in boot loader. Only ruu is an option. So I force reboot by holding the power button.
According to hboot I am most definitely on the newest radio but that black HTC screen puzzles me. Was I supposed to wait longer for it to settle itself or was I supposed to unplug after it flashed?
I then went to recovery and wiped dalvik and cache. The instructions never told me to do it but I did it to be safe.

I tried to flash a ROM a while back, and it messed up my phone. When turning it on and not doing anything else, it gets stuck on the white HTC One screen (with the Beats logo at the bottom). If I hold the power and volume down button, it vibrates, displays the Quietly Brilliant screen, goes black, and does it again and again. There doesn't seem to be a way to turn it off, except to let the battery die.
I tried to run this RUU:
RUU M7 UL JB 50 Cingular US 1.26.502.12 Radio 4A.14.3250.13 10.33.1150.01 Release 318450 Signed 2
and it gives me error 170 (USB connection error). When plugged in to the computer, it shows up as a CD drive, and I can't really find anything relevant in the device manager.
What should I do?

Hi. My sons HDX is stuck in fastboot mode. Amazon support only offered him a discount to replace it. I thought maybe I could do something to wake it up or reflash it but from what I'm reading this is a difficult device. I have been able to get it to respond to the fastboot reboot command in linux but nothing else. This device has never been rooted/flashed/modded and I don't know how it got this way. Is there anything I can do at this point besides throw it away?
Thanks.
when you are at the fastboot screen...
press the power button for 10-20 sec. and it will shut down...
than try to power it on again.... (try it with unplugged usb)
maybe this helps...
If possible, I would unlock the bootloader and then try this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22077057&postcount=11

thanks for the responses. I have tried rebooting the device many times with or without usb plugged in. I've held the power button for 25 seconds until it starts rebooting again. It always boots to a gray kindle fire logo and says fastboot. I've tried the fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 4000 command but it says the hw is locked. Do you recall the firmware level (eg: 3.2.6; 4.5.2)?
Edit: After shutting down (completely off) have you tried power+volume up to access Amazon's crippled recovery? From there you might be able to initiate a factory reset.
i have tried to power it on with different button combinations. I can only get to the same fastboot screen.
oh and I have no idea what firmware it was on.

Yeah, it was a long shot. At this point you may be hosed unless someone knows of a way to recover in fastboot given the state of your device (locked, unrooted, version unknown). Might want to try Amazon again. A different rep may be more accommodating. Sorry, mate.
