I'm trying to remap my search button to open a different app. There's no way to do this in settings. How can I accomplish this? Seems like it should be a feature of CM. I was able to do it on my old Nokia E71x.
Bump
So no one has any idea how to do this?

The rom developers know exactly how to do this.

I believe this can be done on Slim. Don't know about CM

Not sure why this was deleted last time as users were already discussing this topic. I'd like to know which moderator deleted it and why.
I think it'd be nice for devs to build into their rom a long press of a hardware button to launch the camera app.
If this thread should be in the APP/Themes section, a mod should MOVE it there not delete it entirely. Retarded.
So is this long press of a hardware button (i suggest one of the volume keys) possible to link to launching an app specifically the camera?
i was wondering where it went myself .ah well i like this idea and would use it if it became available.if its even possible
Look for an application on the market that lets your configure the long press on search softkey.
It'll let you load any application by long pressing the search key.
Thank you, works great.

I could be wrong, but i don't think the mods owe you any explanation. If you knew where you went wrong, why ask the question?
Anyways, back on topic, this would be an awesome mod on stock froyo, one I'd like to incorporate into my rom
OOORRRR.... You could long press your "seach key." To my knowledge the long press comes unassigned to anything. If you press it, it will give you an option of which app to use for it.
Search for the camera and VOILA! Again.
Personally, I have it set to QuickDesk.
I was wondering what is a good button remapper to use. I want to change my search button to be.my most recent apps. one of the pics rooms does this by default. Just wondering if there's an app / method to apply this to other roms

Thanks. Unfortunately, it doesn't include a way to select recent apps. Works well for other tasks. I looked into this more and it seems to involve changing the android policy jar file? Seems to be more complicated than it needs to be.
I've done a bunch of searching but haven't found an answer yet. Is there a way to remap the recent apps button to be a menu button? And long press for recent apps? I am stock, s-off, rooted, if that matters. Thanks!
Settings, display gestures buttons, recent apps. You can change it there

It is a recent apps button, not a menu button.
Op, mist roms allow you to change it, but you can't on stock.

Just get a new launcher from Market.
Its easier (and more safe) than mucking around with the stock one.
I know Holo Launcher Pro (HD as widgets, also my all-time favorite launcher for some reason) has the ability to rename drawer tabs, and load either most recent, most frequent, widgets, and custom list in them.
I am sure that there are other launchers that do the same.
If you want to change anything in the stock launcher, you must have root privleges.
Use at your own risk. Havent ever modded a launcher before, only other apps.
Copy the apk to another location (and make a backup if anything goes wrong).
Change the extension to .zip
Explore the zip, and modify anything that looks safe to change.
If you are brave enough, rename the extension to .apk again, and place it back in the "system/app" directory.
Reboot the phone if nessisary.
Use at your own risk.
Please thank me if you found this useful.

Many roms now support this feature and there is also a mod that when you flash it, it will enable this feature.

So im trying to get both my maps app and pandora or something else to open from a one click button on homescreen or nfc tag. I want them to open up in multiwindow mode one in each place.Has anyone saw this or knows how to do it? Im running Cleanrom 4.9with full access to multiwindow and root. Anyone have any ideas? would greatly appreciate it.
that's a very interesting question. if I wasn't running a aosp rom right now I would try to help out. never tried to do multi window with Tasker. I don't know if Tasker can automate MW functions.

I'm sure it can, it may just be extremely complex.
Dang, Will have to hope someone stumbles across this or picks it up then. Not something I have the know how for.

I know tasker allows for macros to be run as an action. I never programmed a macro but have seen it on YouTube.

I realize this is an old thread, but did you find Multi Window Manager to help with this?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bjbinc.mwmphone
BTW, I encountered this thread because I'm looking for a way for Tasker to enable Samsung's Multi Window mode. Note: that app (above) doesn't even require Samsung's feature be enabled, but if you want to resize the individual windows, you'll need that mode enabled (on).
Has anyone found what app controls these being in the notification pull down menu? I really only want the power. I never use the Samsung search apps or S Voice. I know the PageBuddyNotiSync controlled the headphones being plugged in but I'm wondering what controls the other.
Anyone?
Thanks in advance

Are you rooted?
If so you have many options, if not, you're stuck.

They are in systemui.apk. if you download my rom there is an option in aroma to remove them.
If there is enough interest I can eventually modify the stock systemui.apk or perhaps right a guide on how to do it yourself.

I just got everything set up the way I like it, so I'd really rather just mod my current or one that you could mod. I'd appreciate it greatly
