Is a Screen Protector Needed - T-Mobile HTC One (M7)

I just bought a One yesterday and wanted to know if everyone has any opinions on getting a screen protector. I don't plan on throwing my phone around with a bunch of quartz sand or anything, but I have had scratches on my Note 2 and GS3.

I know you'll get the random comment telling you that it's not necessary, but think about it: you've spent already about $600 on this phone, you should treat it as an investment. A good screen protector could set you back $25 in the mall is it really worth to skip on it when you've already spent that much already on your phone anyways?
I always place a screen protector on all my phones on day 1, regardless of gorilla glass or anti scratch technology on the screen, I'm not their QA department, I don't get paid to test their features.
Hope this comment enlightens you.

Yeah buy a new couch too then wrap it in plastic. Wouldn't want to ruin it.. I mean you'll probably get another couch in a year but why enjoy the natural feel when you can protect your investment?

Yes. I have a scratch on the bottom portion of the screen. It's not noticeable when the screen is on, though. But I know it's a scratch since I rub over it and feel a slight bump. =.S
But that Tmo JUMP will have me getting the HTC One Max later on this year. I'll put a screen protector on that. I don't want scratches. LoL!!
So get a screen protector. I don't even know how I got the scratch. I don't put it in my pocket with anything else. Oh well...

Bought my wife and I matching Ones. $1200 in phones and you'd better believe I put on screen protectors. Whether or not the phone actually needs it, I'd rather be proactive and have piece of mind.

Do you all put that mask on your car to prevent it from getting dirty? Or do you go out and MAKE sure the car has mud flaps? I mean, I understand, but there are somethings I don't try to hard to protect.
Even though screen protectors, are pretty cheap, so it's not that hard to invest in one. Though I wouldn't spend no $20 on a screen protector. I'd just get a $1. I'm just too lazy to get them. LoL!!
And now I have a scratch on my screen. =.P
But I don't really care too much. I'm probably not going to put a screen protector on the HTC One Max when I pick that up. LoL!! (if the rumors are true)

Gorila glass? my ass.

Im so pissed right now, thats impossible to describe. or i am the unluckiest person in the world, or this glass is a ****.
Ok, i carried the phone in my pocket without screen protector for a month, no scrachs, but now, the FIRST TIME! the phone fell down.. from about 1 meter AT MOST, on a stone floor...
IT SMASHED IN ONE THOUSAND PIECES!
how can a 100gr phone have the power to in 1meter, smash an "almost" indestructible glass? what the **** was that?
if it was scrashed, if it EVEN got a damage on the screen, but one thousand pieces?
Not to mention that i got an Otterbox...
Well im now thinking in taking a new phone, gona fix this one first.
any sugestions of a better phone? dont say sgs2, needs to be now

I agree with jamesd, it is like a windshield on a car, it will not shatter. Also, Gorilla glass is not indestructible, just much harder to scratch and break. go look at the website!
is there a possible it can be a refurb w/o gorila glass? gonna try to find the cam now, if i cant, i will take some pics tomorrow with my girlfriend phone

You mean just for cost reasons? Its not indestructible, but theres no doubt its better than regular glass.
Cant be scrached doesnt mean it cant be shattered. It all depends on the material's physical property. Nexus s would be ur best bet for t mobile or vibrant 4g

what about an desire hd?
Gorilla Glass is much stronger than regular glass but is not unbreakable. It's strength also depends on how thick it is, which varies from one application to the next. If Samsung used a thinner layer either because of expense or to keep the device thinner, it may explain why these screens tend to shatter pretty easily. I will say that I've had my phone for 6 months, have never used a screen protector, and don't have a single scratch anywhere on the screen.
I dropped my phone and it got a crack. It costs $80 to repair

the problem is that i not live in us, and this phone doesnt have support by samsung here, so i will have to buy the lcd+digitizer and fix it myself, ending in about 130 usd

Dude get the nexus s, roms and over clocks are gonna be sick. plus they curved the screen a bit, so if it falls, the edges of the phone hit the floor instead of the screen.
Gorilla glass is scratch proof but not more resistant the breakage. And the fact that the glass is end to end, an impact on the side can travel to the side of the glass, where its most susceptible to breaking into pieces, like it happened to you...
I did throw my phone twice on the wall out of anger, didn't happen to my phone luckily... Ur drop must be a peculiar type directly at the weakest point... Silicon cases, ur best bet next time... I had one on when I threw the phone...

Dude, Gorilla glass is a mix-design that makes the glass surface very hard and the material 3 times more flexible than normal glass........BUT.... it still is glass and if you drop any glass and it hits just right .....the glass breaks. Since this type of glass is also a tempered variety when it breaks it shatters.
Me ? I have dropped my phone from 10 feet and nothing so, I ll chalk it up to you being lucky........or unlucky I should say............

Anyone have the ZAGG- InvisibleSHIELD?

So my 2 day old Note has a hairline scratch that is only visible with the screen off in the right light. I am told that if I get this screen protector it will more than likely hide the scratch, and obviously prevent new ones. I'm curious to hear if others have this and like it. I have never used a screen protector because I don't like the way they look and feel, but apparently this screen is very easily scratched, despite me only keeping it in my pocket by itself.

Yes it does and it kinda sucks, I always buy BSE skins (Best skins ever) but they only have the international version atm.
Have the Zagg Dry Invisi-Shield installed on mine, front and back protection, and both he dry and wet install shields leave little indented marks when you use the s-pen because they are soft. At first its barely noticeable but the little grooves build up over time. Just something to consider, depending on how much you use the s-pen.

I went to Best Buy and and exchanged the phone for a new one because of the scratch and bought the InvisibleShield. I'm not crazy about the Orange Peel look, but it's better than the scratched screen look.
i have the shield on mine as well........after having the rocket for 5 months and not having a case nor a screen protector i had to get one for the notes awsome screen.
and the S-pen is Great. i use it for texting and everything. the write to text is pretty accurate and fast when you get used to it. my only gripe is that with the Zagg shield the pen does not flow quite as smoothly so it hickups here and there when not applying just the right amount of pressure.
I actually wish that it had the physical home button like the Intl version. I saw some neat tips and tricks -such as disable touch screen -which would be great for movies, etc -especially with children...
I went with the Rearth Ringbo screen cover. Cant comment since I ordered it this AM.

I was 1 click away from ordering that. I ended up with the SGP because I didn't know which was better. I haven't done screen protector shopping in a while. Is the Rearth better than

I just learned after buying the Invisible Shield that even though they offer a lifetime "free" replacement, it costs $4 for them to ship it to you and you have to pay to ship it back. In what world is that free?
I bought the invisible sheild today from bestbuy. Not really liking how it feels "tacky" compared to the slick glass. Something to keep in mind when considering purchasing it.

I bought the Zagg tonight, installed it and thought I had it on perfect! Was all proud of myself. Went to go turn the screen on and all these rainbow colors and weird looking dots all over between the screen and shield! I was so pissed. I think I sprayed too much of their liquid on. I should have just paid Best Buy to install. What a waste of money. $22 down the drain.
bought some screen protectors on Amazon to get here Thursday and then 6x off of eBay. I don't care if I have to replace one a month. I'm not spending $20 anymore on one screen protector.
Zagg has also started making an HD version of there screen protector, this one does not give you the orange peel look like the old ones. Right now i think it is only for the Iphone but give it some time they will probity start making them all like that.

Scratch resistant.. really?

It's only been a month since I bought my S3. I have 5-6 very tiny scratches on my screen which are easily visible in bright light. :crying:
It's like a group of scratches at the bottom center of my screen. I am still trying to figure out how I got them. I can assure you that I am not responsible for these scratches. :crying:
I have treated my phone with respect and yet it has developed these scratches. I have never dropped my phone. I have never kept it face-down on any surface.
The funny part is that the back cover on the Samsung Galaxy S3 sucks as well. Its got tiny scratches all over even though I have never ever kept the phone on any surface without keeping a micro-fiber cloth under the phone!
The only possible explanation for the scratches can be dust. Can I claim warranty on the phone since the screen is supposed to be scratch resistant?
I am super sad now

I am not allergic to either. The problem is that I ordered the TRIDEA ALIKE case on 8th June from ebay but there were some manufacturing problems and the case delivery got delayed. It should be here in a weeks time. There are no decent screen protectors available in the local market. The ones that are available on ebay will take 2 weeks to be delivered to my country. With the case still not delivered, I am still contemplating about ordering a screen protector online or waiting for it to hit the stores.

No one in their right senses would think of not putting a screen protector on a costly phone. Like I said, I was waiting for some screen protectors to hit the local markets since I already had a bad experience with shopping for a case online. I ordered it a month back and it's still not here.
I heard that the Galaxy s3 comes with an additional coating that repels oil. Could it be possible that I have only scratched this coating and not the actual glass. If yes, how can I tell the difference?

What makes you think I am stupid? I have had 2 phones with gorilla glass before I got my s3 and none of them got a single scratch on them ever. I started using a screen protector when my phones were a couple of months old since its human nature to not care much about old things.
I was waiting for a good screen protector to be available in the local stores because I only just got the phone and thought It was okay to wait for sometime before I get a screen protector. I had no idea the S3 screen was going to be this delicate.

1 SGS1, unscratched. 3 SGS2s, one with small scratch on screen and many chips in bezel, one with totally smashed screen (tram ran over it), one unscratched. 1 SGS3, tiny scratch on screen. 1 Lumia 800, unscratched (unused, to tell the truth).
I can barely see the scratch on the SGS3, it's ca. 3mm long, upper right of screen. And as said, since it was my fault for taking it to a beach, that's even less reason to beat myself up about it.
Screenguards seem to be the way forward for you. I just don't care enough - phone's for using, and I can't be bothered with the hassle of "babysitting" it instead of using it.

Is screen protector needed?

Hey all,
just wondering. Is screen protector needed for this phone? I got the Diztronic case from amazon, been with it about a month and a half. It comes with its own screen protector which I used from day 1.
It has some bubbles on the sides, barely noticeable, but I'm wondering if screen protector is really needed on this phone?
My old galaxy S 4g (t959v) had the same gorilla glass, never used screen protector and almost a year and a half later is still is intact, with some minor scratches that are only visible when phone is pointed towards the sun or a very bright light.
What I hate about these protectors is that you get to much fingerprints on it and it's hard to get off, even while using the provided cleaning cloth. It's like oil that won't get off easily. I remember my old sgs4g, it was easy to clean and fingerprints weren't as bad. Also, screen seems brighter. Don't know if this phone minimum brightness level is lower, but the sgs4g looks a LOT brighter on lowest brightness setting than this phone, which I hope is because of ROM and not because of screen protector. Though this should mean better battery life for me while indoors i guess.
What you guys think?

I have used a protector on all my phones. Its not essential to use one but I think its worth because you eventually will get at least a small scratch on the device through normal usage and scratches are visible when you hold the screen(when it is off) under light. And I dont think that a screen guard would be a disturbing cause for the user experience unless its a low quality one. And it just saves the screen which might also help in getting you a higher resale value because your screen isn't scratched at all.
Well, I don't really like cases and protectors. I think they ruin the look and feel of the device, regardless of the type of case and how much they protect. I like my devices naked.

I've got the casemate pop case. Was bundled with a car charger when I got my GS2 for no additional cost (upgrade cost with case and charger was the same without the bundle anywhere else).
My case is black/gray, but the only one I could find is white/gray except from AT&T's site. Though it is only 20 bucks from AT&T.
Couldn't be happier. Gives the phone a more rugged feel and has helped the phone survive a few falls from about 4 feet straight to parking lots, thanks to my 1yr old, without any damage to the phone. The case has some minor scratches and a couple scrapes. The screen protector has taken all of the damage as well leaving my screen flawless.
It literally looks as of I just took it out of the box minus some lint. Might not be the best case, but is doing the job it was designed to do..and it was free!

Screen protectors are a preference. Though, some of them are known to degrade screen quality. I'm always afraid that my nails will scratch the screen so I always have em. The day I got my phone the first thing I did was get a case and a screen protector. Still going strong and as an added bonus, it covers up the at&t and Samsung logos on the front.

Its opinion and preference. Im fairly nice to my phones, I dont use a screen protector or a case. i also think pizza is better than hamburgers and like blondes over brunettes.

There is nothing better than a nice juicy burger and a......... brunet.
I enjoy the peace of mind, so I always get a quality screen protector for any touch device I own. If you spend a few bucks, you can get one that's not too sticky, goes on with no bubbles and is scratch resistant (which IMO are the three drawbacks of using screen protectors, especially cheap ones).
I've been using zaggs for just shy of a year now. If/how it differs from others, I couldn't say, but I can say it works, phenomenonly. On top of that, what prompted me to go with zagg, is their lifetime warranty (never pay for another one) and if you take the 10-15 minutes to register your purchase, and device online, it insures your screen. User damage, or not, regardless of at&t's verdict, your screen is covered for replacement. Just my two cents

Grocery shopping isn't always fun for a 1yr old... Sooooo, my daughter has a few apps on my phone and a few on my her mom's (my fiancé) iPhone. Gotta keep her from being that screaming baby when she starts to get cranky

Nice! I like that. +1 In your case, screen protection + Heavy Duty case. Just incase she drop it, or get cranky and throw it.
Lol, like I said, casemate pop case has been good to me so far.

Makes for a perfect teething toy

Naked DNA? No problem.

Some reasons I like to have a naked phone are that it looks better, is easier to grip, and saves money by not buying the accessories. I'm going to go with no case and no screen protector because I'll be purchasing the DNA at Best Buy with their insurance. It's $10/month with no deductible, and no limit on replacements/repairs. After 1 replacement it becomes a better deal than any other insurance, and it will be reassuring knowing I can always have a fairly new DNA in hand. The only thing it doesn't cover is Lost/Stolen, so if you think that might happen to you I wouldn't recommend this route. I have my renters insurance to fall back on if my phone happens to get stolen.
I would l be interested to hear your opinions on what you will be doing with your phone when it comes to cases/protection.
Only case I'd consider is a extended battery pack or one that has those integrated SD/USB card in it.
What is the deductible on your renters insurance? Mine is a 1000 so no way I would claim a lost phone.

250, which isnt outstanding but is better than 600 for retail. i typically typically break phones rather than lose them anyways
Isn't there some sort of coverage if purchased under American Express or another credit card?
I may put Ghost Armor on the screen, but I definitely have Assurion protection. No case.
I never put cases on my phones. Mine will be naked (should arrive today). I can't imagine covering this beauty with some POS silicone. No screen protector either.

I feel the same way. I went naked on my Thunderbolt with the exception of the screen protector that I had on it since day 1, but after removing it the display looks so much clearer.
I always use use a case, as I tend to drop devices and they get scratches. I HATE scratches.
Never really understood the whole screen protector idea. The glass is not going to get scratched by 99.9% of the stuff people do to their phone. And if that 0.1% thing happens, a thin film of plastic is not going to prevent it. But people buy them, then see the protector get scratched (duh, it's a plastic film) and think "oooh that saved my phone".
Understood on the cases, but I still never put a case on my phone. A few scratches in the phone will happen so I don't care about that, and any case which would prevent real damage to the phone is so bulky it defeats the purpose of having a nice thin form factor phone.
To me it's akin to people who put a bra on their car and never take it off. Sure, put it on for a road trip so you avoid some dings, but if you never take it off when you get home, then you never see the real car again. Why do you need to protect something you'll never see again?
No case. No screen protector. No insurance.
Dropped one phone in the last twelve years.
Basically, I'm getting this phone for the looks of it.
And I want to be reminded every day that the display is currently the best available.
My usage and lifestyle is fine with the battery life and storage on this device.
With corning glass 2 is a protector really necessary?

I would like to say I could pull this off, but I cant. Historically speaking there's been a couple times I left my phone on my lap while driving, then getting out of the car you know what happens. Stuff like that may only happen every 5 months or so, but I want to be covered for my occasional clumsiness. Every phone I have owned (iphones and androids) has had something break in one way or another.

Yes. At least for me, I carry my phone in my pocket. I live in Denver, so no sand from the beaches, and I have had two phones with Gorilla Glass that have gotten the little micro scratches from somewhere. I NEVER put my keys in the same pocket as my phone, and generally take good care of them, but the FACT is, if you want the highest resale value for the phone, protect it. If you don't then don't.
i love a naked phone. my dna wont have anything on it either! love the feel of the naked screen! and also maybe a pouch case to keep protected in my pocket like my s3 but nothing when i use it
I ended up going with the same case I had for my GNex. It was the combo holster/case from Verizon. I used mine a ton because of the flip out kickstand built into the case. I don't use the holster since it goes into my pocket, but I enjoy the case.
