Hi
anyone know anything on what i think is a 2MB limit on opening attachments through the built in android email app?
Wanted to go through the source and locate but thought id ask on here first to see if anyone has managed to edit the APK with the limit removed.
Ive had a look around and too much of whats available has way to much of the exchange security policy stuff ripped out
As our mail is through exchange we cant exactly use gmail as a solution right now (which i believe has a much higher limit)..
any ideas?
Thanks

[Q] Honeycomb Native E-mail Client -- 25 e-mail limit & 1 month limit for Exchange
Hi guys, I have searched a bit for this but either this is not a problem for many people or I've been using the incorrect terminology.
I went through this with the Xoom and now the Tab 10.1...
Essentially I would like to access ALL my e-mail (through IMAP) on the native email client on Honeycomb. I've done this with the Playbook and IPAD (1&2) but for some reason I can't seem to find a way to download all of my email at once. It will load 25, and load another 25 when I tell it to but as far as I can tell it won't keep it a total 50, it will just revert back to 25 at some-point.
AND/OR
I have also tried the Microsoft Exchange route via the native email application and it is limited to 1 month in terms of backward syncing. Is there a way to change this?
I know that with the GMAIL application I can do this, which is awesome, but with the other email application I can't seem to figure it out and any help would be much appreciated.
Also, I'm trying not to go the "third-party app" route, I prefer and like the native email app better than most. TouchDown is pretty cool and useful and if I can't figure this out than I'll settle for that.
Thanks guys... I look forward to all of the helpful info.
Exchange has one month limit? Huh??
I recently LOST visibility to my Exchange account/emails and simply though I had probably fat fingered something to delete the account from among my 2-3 others.
Is there really a time limit? Does not make sense!
Why?? - guessing $$, so Yeesh in advance....
One month as in one month of emails going backwords synced at a time I assume.
Not "stops working after one month"?
Sorry for misunderstanding Mark, I did mean a 1 month limit in terms of backwards synch-capability.

Too funny
...and I really did delete that exchange account accidentally.
bump, I really need someone to tell me if I'm just dreaming or if there is a work around.
thanks guys.
there are no work around for this. Android system has been just like that since the beginning.
You could use K-9 mail for IMAP though I don't think it's tablet optimized.
Touchdown might work for Exchange, they have 30 day trial in the market.
Hi there, I'm now working over CM 7.2 for Atrix 4G, here's the thing... I'm tryiing to get email sync native, as it is in CM9, but I'm not sure of what shall I modify... there's the option of adding a "work account" and add an e-mail this way but it's kind of frustrating... not very friendly for what I'm trying to do...
So resuming, I would like to integrate the e-mail sync option in CM 7.2 the way it is in CM 9...
Any ideas?
Thanks you all guys
PS: Sorry about my english
noone? basically what I'm trying to do is:
In CM9, when you want to add a new e-mail account from setting, it just asks you for e-mail adress and pw.
In CM 7.2 it asks (work account):
*e-mail adress
*pw
*domain/user name
*pw
*server
So I want CM 7.2 adding e-mail account settings yo be just as simple as tey are in CM9
is there a way? or just keep adding it from e-mail app?
Don't quote me on this but I believe the newer exchange apps have code that does much of the work for you by querying the Exchange server and figuring out the domain being used as well as the username from your email and password. That is why they probably don't ask you for the extra fields.
If this is true, you might need to look into how the Exchange apps accomplish this and see if you can somehow make modifications yourself.
I am not near my dev machine and so I don't remember if the android source contained the relevant code for Email.apk. You will have to check.
Cheers!
I'm actually thinking on that but it's quiet annoying to compare line by line apks...anyway tonight think I'll do that...tweeted turl to see if he can help me with this stuff...but I'm starting to believe it can be so much work for a simple stuff like it actually is...the problem is mail.apk may have some sync issues the way it's now done

Hi all,
I witnessed an issue regarding all android phones/versions between 2.1-4.2 without any solution, and I couldn't find any thread that talks about it in the proprietary+google search.
The issue: pic's get cropped, and I'm forced to click the "can't view properly? click here" link to the web page.
Here's a screeenshot:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1-naiwBRz1aRlprYWNyUmNWMDA/edit?usp=sharing
The issue isn't for all mails, and there are some mail that can be viewed properly within the Gmail app itself.
I'm currently running the latest Gmail app as you can see with the top nav buttons.
Anyone else experiencing this issue ?
Go into : Menu -Settings - General settings - Auto -fit messages. Check it, and back out. The message should now be entirely seen in the screen. To Zoom in just tap the screen, or use the two finger spread method.
Tried that already...just forgot to mention.
any other ideas?
It's something a bit more complicated than a just a setting or wrong usage.
Other than that, the only other thing I can suggest is to unistall mail. Then reinstall.

Thanks again for your answer !
Well I've uninstalled the gmail several times when tried the leaked Gmail apps(the first one that supports swipe to archive+pinch to zoom, and obviously the last one who supports the new tabs interface).
I'll just mention it's not a specific problem but cross device and cross android+Gmail versions.
I tried every version of android/gmail combo(forwarding lots of mail to friends etc) but each time they all get the same problem.
The only thing I figured out who kinda gave me an alternative is use the stock mail client and not the gmail one, but in that case I'm loosing lots of the Gmail app functionality.
This is really something that just myself noticed? this is not one mail or a specific sender.
In the OP you mentioned that it does not happen on all your Gmail Email. Is it just from certain People / Companies ?
No, it's usually when I get promotion emails from my bank or some online shopping websites that uses big photos that are basically links.
Moreover, it's always from automated mails BUT I think that's only because I'm not receiving large photos in personal emails.
I would recheck settings. I know sometimes when I'm frustrated, I miss stuff.

Thanks again for your effort, I'm really certain that I haven't miss an option as every new app version that releases I'm scanning all of the features.
Here's a screen shot of my settings, I've highlighted the only possible option that can affect this, by my understanding:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B1-naiwBRz1aSU5od1hmOWtUT3M/edit?usp=sharing
BTW In case that I'm not clear enough with the issue I can forward(if you want to PM me with your mail) you one of those mails, I got lots of them. Of course if it's ok by you...
I'd love to hear any other ideas

I'm going to add chat functionality to my app. After long searches I came to the conclusion that the best solution would be ejabberd/openfire + smack 4.1 for android, but I have some things that I can't wrap my ahead around. I don't know if I'm supposed to post a question like this here. Just comment if not and I'll delete it, but I don't know of any other place that I can ask.
Now I have a facebook login and some fields that post data to a server and that data is uploaded into mysql tables. I found multiple tutorials on how to make the openfire connection, but once I achieve that am I supposed to forget about my old implementation ? Is openfire just for instant messaging, or does it behave like a server in which I can add tables, query them, add data and etc. ?If so how? I mean in my current configuration I have php which handles all of that, but I couldn't find anything in openfire that would let me do such a thing.
When I configured openfire I saw that a lot of tables are created(ofuser, etc.), and I don't know what any of those are for, but I assume that I'm not supposed to mess with them.
Am I going to implement the auto-registration within the facebook login(user= fb id and password = token)?
Am I going to use openfire just to handle sending the messages, but store them on my current server in a table? It sounds that the phone would have to deal with too much- send the message to my server(to store it) and then to the openfire server?
I would also like to make an website for this app. Should I make it in such a way that when the message is submitted into the php form(to store it) somehow it's going to send it to the openfire to handle the downstream?
How should I implement this?
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you.:good:
Before anyone makes any suggestions to use some other random email client the answer is, I cannot
My company is only set up to use the LG, Samsung, HTC and touchdown email clients. Anything else costs money to service and they arent going to provide those services when they give you the option to use a company owned iPhone.
So, I need to find a way to make my V30 use the LG email app. I have installed the APK and it doesn't work. I dont know what else I might need to get it go work.
Its asking for phone permissions in the app, but under permissions phone isnt an option.

I'm curious as to what app you installed. I was surprised my V30+ didn't come with a mail app.
And I didn't find any LG specific mail app. Did your company provide it?
Also surprised you can't use the Google mail app.
As for your permissions, maybe look under General>Accounts & Sync?
The unlocked versions of the LG Phones (I'm finding posts dating back to G3) dont come with the email app.
The app I downloaded was from APK Mirror and it is marked as thr LG app.
Nothing but the email apps I mentioned will work with our servers. Its just the way they have Airwatch servers configured here. Each additional app requires a license to use. Touchdown is crap and now going out of support, so I have to do something before June.
General Accounts and sync doesnt do anything in this regards. It just links an account to an app. In this case thats not an option, since the app wont let me do anything.
My Airwatch profile executes and creates the config, but when it passes me to the app to provide my credentials it fails with this permissions error.
US998 does not come with stock email app.
I purchased Nine. it works great.
This is not a solution tho..

When you go to Apps click on the 3 dots in upper right corner and choose configure apps. Click on App permissions at the top and scoll down to Phone.
Is you LG Email app in that list?
Update: I downloaded the latest version from APK Mirror and had the same problems you are reporting. I unistalled it and dowloaded the version 6.70.35. This version works normally on my V30+.
Hope this helps.
The 6.70.35 version said it appears to be corrupt. Can you send me a copy of it?
The app thing you mention doesn't work either. Its just not in there.
Never mind. It installed this time.
It doesnt give me the phone permissions error, but doeant give me my email and crashes conatantly. I also cant add my hotmail there either. Its very strange.
Well.. Thats that. I am processing the return and ordered a mint condition used verizon model. Sucks, but need work email and calendar access.
Thanks for the replies. I spent all last night working on it to no avail.
