After shutting down and turning on my phone again this morning, it will not boot up and instead freezes on the white splash screen with the green HTC logo. I have tried waiting it out, clearing the caches, flashing the kernel, and just tried a hard reset, all to no avail.
Also, if I plug my phone into the charger, the orange light comes on. However, it remains on when I unplug it from the wall and the only way to get the light off is to take out the battery.
I was using a custom ROM, the Amazing QuikSense 2.1.2, for the past 4 months without any problems. I haven't installed any new applications in awhile. I don't know what caused this. What can I do to get my phone working again?
Can you get into recovery? Try taking battery out, put back in, hold volume down and power at same time and see if you can get into recovery. If so, reflash the rom.
yes, i can get into recovery and to ClockworkMod
i have already tried flashing the ROM again but it is still freezing when booting

How are you flashing the kernel? Fastboot or ADB? ADB may not work on a soft brick... Maybe try fastboot?
OR
Did your battery die and that's what triggered this? If your battery is dead and you are on a CWM that doesn't have charging while off, you could be screwed until u get a fresh battery. Does the phone turn off after hanging on splash screen?

Theres ur problem, u need to use ekf
Idk if there is still a thread with ekf, but u can just download fauxs kernel from his thread, extract the zip on your computer, put your fone in fastboot and connect the phone to the computer via usb. Open the folder u extracted the zip to and open the file that says flash.bat and it will do the rest

i have tried flashing the kernel through ADB and flashing the ROM and it is still freezing on the HTC startup screen.. i don't know what to do next.. please help
it says:
fastboot flash boot Kernel-Here/boot.img
sending 'boot' <2876 KB>... FAILED <status malformed <1 bytes>>
the boot.img file is fine - why is it failing?
im also having this problem, my phone keeps freezing at the startup screen when the htc logo pops up. i dont know much about this kind of stuff so i would really appreciated if anyone could guide me to what to do
the way that my phone froze like that was that i tried to flash a kernel for the Energy rom, i did installed the rom itself
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362759 this is the rom that i wanted to use
and i flashed the kernel that was provided in the 4th post, i downloaded that file, extracted and ran the .bat file and thats how it happened

You wiped all of your data and system, so it's basically means that you have nothing on your phone, no OS, nada, that's why the phone would not boot up.
I suggest you to read more before doing anything to your phone next time :fingers-crossed:
At least you still have recovery on your phone. I'm not sure if TWRP would allow your phone to be charge while off, if it's not, then you better stop doing any further and try to look around to see if you have a wall-charger to charge your battery. Make sure it's full before proceed any further.
These next steps would be
1. Read this thread
2, Flashing 4EXT recovery would be your best bet since it allow your phone to be charged while off - this will be a life saver.
3. Flash an RUU to get back to stock. Note: You will need to re-lock your bootloader in order to do this
Good luck

thank you very much , but what should i do first i am afraid to do... please suggest me first step and be easy on me !!
You still be able to boot into your recovery, right? I don't use TWRP so I'm not sure but you will need to know how much juice you still have before going further. In 4EXT recovery, it tell you that information inside recovery though ...
Next, I would flash 4EXT recovery to make sure you can charge your phone while it's off ... using Hansoon's toolkit. Don't try to flash kernel again for you don't needed it as yet
The rest is very much already told. You will try to go back to stock by reading the link that I've provided.
PS: DON'T be affraid. DONT Panic. Just read through the Amaze Bible to gain more knowledge and confident. You'll be okay. Just take your time to read. It's not that hard as you though while in panic mode

Writesecurityflag??? Its been a while for me but that doesnt sound right. If s=off u want... u need the wire trick... After step 4 (which is accurate btw) u need to put the recovery.img of your choice (4ext highly recommended) in the same folder as your fastboot.exe program on pc. I recommend renaming it "recovery.img" and then you type "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" to flash ur custom recovery of choice. From there, reboot into recovery and flash superuser.zip. then u r rooted stock

Hello there,
I've had my OneX+ for a few months already and I've been using TWRP for quite a while. A few weeks ago, though, I flashed ViperX ROM and their TWRP-mod recovery. The recovery worked for a while but then the phone decided to simply not boot into recovery at all and instead rebooting into the ROM again. I tried reflashing the recovery and using CWM instead of TWRP. CWM seems to work but when I try to do a backup it just reboots back into ROM after it seems like it almost finished the backup, if I try to Factory reset/wipe anything the phone again simply just reboots to ROM ...
I really have no idea what to do now, plzhalp.

Hi Seleren...
Can you specify which phone version you have? AT&T/TELUS or International?
That would really help us to guide you to the good solution. Don't worry you can not brick your device with patience you'll be back on track.
i had an issue like this a while back. open up an abd and run fastboot erase cache, fastboot flash recovery (yourrecoveryname).img, then fastboot erase cache again. mine wouldnt boot into twrp after flashing a rom, it would show the teamwin screen then boot into the rom and these steps fixed it.

Tried that already, nothing changed at all, TWRP logo shows up and then the phone reboots to ROM. CWM works partially as I said, it reboots when I tell it do do anything (backup/wipe/flash) and the phone is unaffected.
Bump. Help please, I tried flashing another kernel but that didn't help. I can't even wipe or flash another ROM in CWM.

Try redownloading the recovery and rewriting it. It may be a bad download.

Re: [Q] Recovery problems - unable to boot into TWRP, CWM fails
Flash the kernel and then the recovery with fastboot and see what happens.
Download a fresh recovery for your International (ENRC2B) model here.
Put this file in the platform-tools of your SDK folder.
Plug the USB cable coming from your computer to your phone.
Then open a command prompt window and type : adb devices (you should see your serial at the screen)
Again type : adb reboot-bootloader (Enter)
Type again this command : fastboot devices (you should see your serial at the screen)
Type this command (if serial is successful) : fastboot flash recovery your_recovery_name.img (Enter)
Clear cache with : fastboot erase cache (Enter)
Once done unplug your USB cable, click one time on Power button.
One Volume rocker down to select Recovery.
Confirm by clicking on Power button to reboot in Recovery.
Try to flash an International ROM only.
What result you obtain by doing this?
@Seleren I would be interested to know if the above worked for you? Also useful if anyone else gets this problem

I've already tried that numerous times, I can get to erasing cache etc but once I try to boot into the recovery ... I'm done. TWRP won't boot even after erasing cache. CWM fails at wiping/backuping/flashing and just reboots without any notice at all. I'm really out of ideas now.
Sorry for a bit late answer.
This is really strange. Are you sure you are correctly rooted? Which method have you followed to root your phone? The above method I gave you, I have done this numerous times, switching from CWM recovery to TWRP recovery to access different backup on my phone, and it never fails on me.
Are you sure that your SDK folder is well installed and fully functional? Are HTC's drivers correctly configured? What is your phone responding to you when you type : adb devices?

Yes, I am correctly rooted, I've rooted numerous phones, I unlocked using the official HTC method. I could say I'm not a complete noob to Android. I wouldn't even post here if I didn't try all the standard procedures.
I flashed the Non-touch CWM yesterday and nothing changed (not that I expected it to). I decided I'll try flashing the bootloader in the end but I have to back up my whole SDCard before that ...
Bump.
SALVATION
Well, since I don't want to be like others who just say "Solved", here's the solution I came up with.
1. Get your new ROM's zip to your SDCard
2. Flash CWM since TWRP won't boot
3. Flash ROM from CWM, it will be flashed even though the phone will unexpectedly reboot.
4. Flash the bootImage from fastboot (Thank god at least that works)
5. Go back to recovery, go to Mounts menu and wipe every options you can (cache, data, system)
6. You will most probably lose your SDCard data too.
7. Reflash the ROM you wanted.
8. Voila.
PS: Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any damage to your device that may occur while using this procedure.
Here something strange I've been encountering... Every time I flash a boot.img over TWRP it won't boot to TWRP. I have to flash the recovery over the boot.img.

What Lloir meant to say was that the boot.img has nothing to do with the recovery, so flashing a boot.img will NOT change your recovery to so-said TWRP.
TWRP is being flashed by a different command namely 'flash recovery' instead of 'flash boot' like previously mentioned boot.img
Just got the phone, unlocked through HTCDev, installed recovery through Toolkit, but can't actually boot into recovery. I tried all of the recoveries available (TWRP, CWM, CWM Touch) but once I select reboot into recovery, it reboots, gets to the HTC logo screen, something appears on the top edge of the screen, it reboots and boots normally. Did I do something wrong?

I just tried flashing TWRP manually (fastboot flash recovery recovery.img) and it still does the same. I renamed the img file to recovery.img, so it's not that.
Try redownloading the file from the url above. Maybe it was a bad file download?
Also try different micro usb cables and usb ports. Reinstall the drivers just things like that

reason I asked was maybe there is a bug when selecting reboot into recovery thought it was worth a try to enter it a different way
Fixed it by selecting "Factory Reset" in the bootloader menu--went straight to recovery.
I had the same problem and was able to resolve it by turning off fast boot in the power settings screen.
Im having the same issue with every recovery I flash. Obviously im not a noob and can flash stuff. Im just boggled because everybody is reporting flashing internation stuff just fine. The recoveries don't work for me. Can someone direct link me to the recovery they flashed on their att version?

I have tried all of these methods. I have flashed the recovery, all of them, repeatedly and my phone will only show unlocked. I have used the All in One as well as manually flashing the recovery as well. but my phone never switches to *TAMPERED*. Any advice?
I had this happen on my other One tonight. I had flashed the recovery via fastboot about 15 times and it wasn't working until I let it reboot to OS and then I adb reboot bootloader and magically it showed TAMPERED. Just keep doing the steps over and over again and eventually it'll work. After it finally took TWRP I was able to change it for CWM Touch with no issues.

OPTIONS FOR A HARD BRICK-
there are a few options here.
1ST OPTION- riffbox jtag repair, this is a repair by manually pumping firmware into your phone with a riffbox connected to a jtag connected to your phones motherboard
method for this is a difficult, yet money saving process, but may not work all the time.
HOW TO RIFF

OPTIONS FOR A SOFT BRICK
a softbrick is 99% repairable with a htc phone, as htc has a more then simple way of operating
it needs the following to run
1st you need a hboot
2nd you need a system image, data image and boot image. ( i say all three of these because your phone wont boot unless you have all three)
3rd applications
so now we identify your problem!
if your phone turns on and goes straight to recovery or bootloader, even after you have tried rebooting into system this is what you do!
the problem is cause by not having a system and data image.
1. download a rom for your device
2. put the rom on your sd card(if you dont have an sd boot into recovery and push the file to your phone using my adb guide HERE
3. put your sd card in your phone and reboot into recovery
4. flash the rom.

if your phone turns on and is stuck at the htc logo then this is a problem with the boot.img, heres what to do.
1. download the rom you have and open the .zip file on your computer, then extract the boot.img from the file and put it somewhere on your computer
2. connect phone to computer
3. read HERE to learn how to flash the boot.img

if your phone turns on and goes straight to bootloader and you cant get into recovery then this is caused by not having no image files flashed, and heres how to fix it.
1. boot into bootloader
2. select fastboot in the bootoader menu
3. connect phone to your computer
4. download a recovery for your phone and read HERE how to flash it
5. boot into recovery
6. download a rom for your device
7. put the rom on your sd card(if you dont have an sd boot into recovery and push the file to your phone using my adb guide HERE
8. put your sd card in your phone and reboot into recovery
9. flash the rom.
10. DONE

if none of those work then you might want to consider flashing an RUU file (FIXES ALMOST ALL ERRORS)
1. download the RUU for your device and CID
2. flash it
3. DONE

if not even that works, consider it a hard brick
HOPE THIS HELPED! AND REMEMBER TO HIT THANKS!

Hi, I have an HTC Thunderbolt that is not being detected by ADB or Fastboot but it starts up and is in a bootloop. Unfortunately I have not backed it up and I have stock recovery. I do have an SD card so if there is a way that I can probably put a fix on it and apply it through the recovery I would. Awesome guide BTW.

Hi!
My phone keeps staying on the startup animation.
I actually had a recovery installed, and in the memory there's a rom's zip ready to get installed... but I can't get into the bootloader.
Even if I press volume down+power button it goes on startup animation until the battery is totally drained.
I could even flash the RUU, but I actually can't select the fastboot mode...
Any suggestion?
Thanks!

Hi
i am new to all these stuff, as u said earlier my phone is stuck on the htc logo so it needs to flash boot.img
my phone is htc m8 eye where can i find the stock rom to proceed from
the question might be silly but thanks anyway
Hello boys.. I've a big problem: I'm stuck on first boot!!
I got the cyano 10.1.3 stable, flashed the boot.img by command line, in the TWRP recovery (the only one for my HTC One X+) full wipe and install the zip of the rom.. reboot... but the phone is stucked on boot.
I've tried a lot of times, then I've decided to use another cooked rom, MagioROM.. same problem:
ie extract the boot.img, flashed by command line window, in the recovery full wipe, and install of the rom. the installation goes on, show me the % of progress, at the end he seems all ok, then ask me "Reboot Now?" or not, then I reboot ma the phone is still blocked with the boot image. I've tried a lot of times, making wipe after the rom installation, same thing.. installing gapps before the reboot, no way.. installing gapps and making full wipe..
HEEEEEELP!!
By you got CM10.1.3 you mean that you are running it or can't past the Boot animation?
I have had this problem the first time I flashed CM. I fixed it this way :
-Full wipe (data, dalvik, cache, system) just be sure not to wipe the internal sd....
-Flashed the ROM.
-Fastboot flash boot boot.img
-cleared cache through recovery or fastboot
-Restarted and there I was running CM. Followed the same steps to return to stock.
Hope I mentioned something that u missed or a step that u weren't aware of .
Good luck

sorry for my english I mean I've downloaded it (while my phone running the original sense 5.0 with android 4.2.2).. mmh by your explanation, my error is flashing the boot.img before flashing of the rom..
I'll try as you told me.. thanks!!
No way.. same thing, the cell is stucked on first boot. Any solution ??
I honestly don't know the problem but here are some guesses:
-You installed a Rom belonging to one x not x+, or At&t and you are INT. Or something.
- Try to reboot the phone again. Some people reported that the first boot is bugged and it might boot the second time.
- Try another ROM like pure AOSP or some other kind of ROM
Just a top of my head guesses which you should do.
I am trying to clear ideas for the more professional devs. Hope I help in someway :S sorry mate , I am sure everything will be fine.

No, I chosen the right roms.. the device is an hox+ ita (int, I suppose)
I've tried something like 40 reboots in the past 4 days..
The rom's I've tried: cyano 10.1.3 rc2 and MagioROM 4.0
Can be a problem of recovery? Maybe this is the error.. sincely I don't remember wich version I used..

I changed the bootloader, installing the latest twrp 2.6.3, erase cache, reboot, full wipe, flashed the rom, reboot..
and now the phone is freeze on boot:
I CANNOT EVEN SHUTDOWN IT!!! It's a brick?
HEEELPPP!!
Freezes on the ROM's boot? That means you did not "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
Open the ROM that you downloaded on your PC (.zip) and drag out the boot.img
Copy it to your fastboot folder.
Now to restart your phone, hold down the power buttons for 10 seconds. Release it, then hold it down for another 10 seconds. The screen still didn't go dark? Hold down the power button till the screen goes dark, keep holding the volume down button till the phone boots up, it should get you to the bootloader. Enter the fastboot mode.
Connect your phone to the computer.
Flash the boot.img
Restart and then the ROM should work fine.
If you do not know how to flash boot the boot.img , you can youtube it. It's pretty close no matter which phone it is.
Good luck.
Edit: I just noticed that I already said that , sorry I am kinda fuzzy , just woke up. But the issue with you is the BOOT.img , I am 90% sure of it. Just keep trying to flash the BOOT.img and restart, should work with you.

Nothing to do.. the phone didn't boot correclty, after 14 min i had to turn it off!
Another flash of the boot.img, then (by recovery) I locate the rom (where, on pc, i found the boot.img), I installed it, now he's trying to boot..
I'm not lucky with this hox+
Just a question.. the boot.img I only copied on pc.. but a copy is still in the zip of the rom on smartphone.. he can stay there, or I have to delete it ?
Keep it there. I hope one of the devs can reply to your thread :S sorry mate, I'm out of ideas.

Maybe a problem of bootloader? How I can see if it's unlocked or not? I'm pretty sure to complete the unlocking step by step.. but..
with the bootloader locked, it's possible, like I do, have another recovery BUT he didn't complete the rom installation ?

Thanks for the attempt, I tried as hasoon2000 wrote..
Boot into recovery manually, turned off hox+ and restart in in same way until the BOOTLOADER pops up,
go on recovery, connected the phone to pc,
in TWRP, under "Advanced" and selected ADB Sideload,
runned AIO on pc then press ADB Sideload a ROM, hit with violence "YES" (it's the 5° evening I spend to solve this problem)
Then selected the ROM cm10.1.3, It had to be sideloaded into the phone,
BUT, HOLY CRAP, the result of "All-in-one" is..
"adb server is out of date. killing...
* daemon started successfully *
* failed to write data 'protocol fault (no status)' *
what's wrong ?
