Did you just come from a 4.1.2 rom? If so use grab a file manager from the market and look under /data/media/.
If you switched to a 4.2 and up rom, you will see /data/media/0(this is your NEW home directory and all your data is hiding in /data/media/.
Simply move everything to /0 and your space will be correct again.

I did a full wipe into 4.3. Will your solution rectify the issue still?
Edit: I deleted the folder because i had no need for anything there. Do i have to Do this everytime i install a 4.2+ rom?

Only if you go back to a 4.1 rom, its a google thing I am not versed enough in, but hopefully it helped you out. You can do some reading up if you so choose. Because 4.2 introduced users, they had to make a change to file structure to support it if I am not mistaken.
Did it fix the issue?
Edit: Which folder did you delete?

Yeah I've noticed it messed where I had to point rom toolbox for backups.
I deleted media folder in data. Rebooted. Reloaded some apps that were affected by it. It seemed to get rid of the files in my 0/Legacy/SD and one more folder, finally freeing up my phone. Thanks for the help!

Hello Sir I'm in the same situation. So all I need to do to get straight is go to data media and delete the media file. Then reboot and I'll be straight.
I'm aware all my pictures and stuff will be gone but that's OK. Will I still have my recovery. If so it would probably be wise to make a nandroid now. Correct. Thank you for any help.

Hi all,
Hope your well.
Im having the same issue too when trying to install apps. Exactly the same message. just over 6GB available in storage.
Im trying to install friendcaster no luck.
Tried to install you tube too, no luck. I have checked data/apps and I have no Odex files in there. Also, I have not installed friendcaster before on this phone therefore there will not likely to be any odex files for that app.
I am on Omega Rom, which is deodexed.
Btw, where is internal storage gone? only see SD storage and ExSd storage.
Any help would be appriciated.
Thanks guys

Having odex files is the issue that comes to mind but if you have checked it and there isn't any related to friendcaster then u should try wiping cache n dalvik to see if that works.

Salaam bro.
Thanks for your response.
This may sound silly but I was trying to think back a few days ago if I had made any system like changes to my phone. I then remembered that in one of the settings menu in Rom Toolbox, there is an option to choose where to install apps. Auto, internal or SD card. I changed it from Auto to SD,thinking (logically) it would save internal storage. It turns out (so far)that this was the issue. I changed it back to auto and then I was able to install the app. Wierd I know. Im confused. I hant tried to install anymore apps yet so not sure if this is sorted for good but will keep an eye out.
Once again thank you for taking time out to respond.
Btw, all the best for Ramadhan!! (next month!!)

U shouldn't need to install apps to external as u have a lot of memory this time around n u can also use a lot of software to move game data to external sd and run them from there by Binding the directories. Permission error when saving anything to sdcard

I first noticed that when I went to take pictures that a toast message would popup that said something along the lines of "Unable to save file to sdcard due to insufficient file privaleges". Originally I thought it was the Rom at fault which I will leave nameless beings that its occoring with every Rom I've flashed since as well. But only after switching between the 3 Roma I had saved on my sdcard prior to this incident, I tried to download a newer Rom to see if it was a bug that had been fixed but couldn't download anything to my sdcard. The only time I can download is through the market or via adb push so I know the internal storage isn't broken, but not recieving the correct permissions.
Has anyone else experienced this or have a fix because I don't want to bring the phone back "re-locked" and ask for a replacement. But I also do not want to buy a new phone or go through asurion. Thanks in advance and happy hollidays!

Backup everything from your storage. Go into recovery and format /sdcard. I had the same thing happen. Worked fine after the format and restoring the files.
I'm getting ready to head home so ill do it when I get there. Should I format it in cwmr recovery or through settings just so I make sure I do it the way you did it. Less room for error lol. And thanks a lot I'm really hoping that it helps! I miss having the camera mostly for taking pictures of my 14 month old Son Hambo!

Android 4.2.2 added the ability for multiple users. All of your downloads/backups/files are now under a folder called 0(for the first user). Or at least, they should be. You may need to manually relocate them there in order for TWRP to see it. If you're wanting to go back to a 4.1.2 ROM, you need to delete the folder 0.
If Android has already moved all of your files to folder 0, you need to pull off what you want to back up onto your computer then delete the folder. Don't just move them out of the folder. When I ran into this issue, I did that--simply moved everything out of file 0 and back into normal internal storage. Apparently, when you delete file 0 it gives the command to wipe all internal storage. At least, it did for me. So move everything to your computer first, delete, then move back.

Best way to clean up the internal SD

So in my flashing craziness I forgot to use the sd downgrade when I went from an AOSP rom back to a 4.1.2 rom. Definitely a noob mistake that I will never make again.
Now my internal SD seems extremely cluttered with a 0 folder similar to the main one.
Is there a simple way to clean this up?
FWIW I did flash the new Beans 18 build then flash the downgrade earlier today, however I am currently on a restored backup of Beans 17.
I have considered flashing back to stock and then rooting again to make it all clean, but that won't take care of the unused and duplicate folders in my internal storage...right?!
Yes I am new here so please be kind! I spend a ton of time teaching myself and learning about rooting and customizing, but this is one thing I wanted a definite answer to before I end up deleting a crucial file or folder.

Easiest way would be to use a file explorer and copy/paste anything from /0 you want to keep over to the correct sdcard location. Then you can just delete the /0 folder.
Thanks for taking the time to answer. I was able to delete all but 2 sub folders under 0...the download and jelly beans folder refuse to delete. Not sure what that's about but at least I now have my internal in better shape!

I haven't used ES in a long long long time. If it will allow you full R/W privileges like Root Explorer you should be able to do it but I honestly don't know about ES because I use Root Explorer. Maybe the post about boring into recovery would work.

^ This is the way to go. Just get rid of everything and start over. Although make sure to have the rom on your external sd so after you wipe internal you have the rom to flash. I do it when I get bored and want to clear out old app folders

If I needed to clear the internal, I would remove important files and then do an internal storage wipe on a clean Rom from twrp.
Current device:
Samsung Galaxy Note 2
Retired devices:
Huawei Ascend, Droid Charge, Droid Bionic
I used this wipe application called Zoot's wipe script, it has the Aroma wipe installer in it. This has several wiping variations but the big wipe is the Mega Wipe. Make sure you transfer all your important files to your external sd card because this Mega Wipe will wipe your internal memory clean to where you have 10gb free again. (For me on Verizon we only can get the 16gb gnote2, so after Touch Wiz sucks up the memory it needs you only have about 10gb free) Download this zip file and when you flash into recovery, I use TWRP, this can be used on Clock work too. flash this zip file and select Mega to clean out your internal sd. Super Wipe can be used to flash different roms too.

Ok,
Giving that a try right now. I never even thought to use TWRP for that. Brilliant. so I get to that spot...and as I type its been on a deleting dialog for a couple of moments, but this is what came up when I selected delete:
"Updating partition details...
E:error opening '/data/data/com.android.browser.
E: Error: Too many open files
Recovery rebooted after about 5 minutes and the file is still there. This file is stubborn. But it has to be the one causing the issues.
BTW, I appreciate your help in this.
