I just copied about 7gigs of mp3 files to my 16gig microsdhc for my x10 Mini Pro
U20i, and it's become slow and laggy. It reboots when I try to start an app or
do anything "too demanding".
The phone is new and was rooted correctly with z4root 1.3.0 and I haven't flashed any roms to it or anything drastic.
If anyone could help, I'd really appreciate it!
BTW it's a class 10 card (though I have my doubts at this stage). I've noticed from a facebook link that other people seem to be blaming Sony Ericsson for similar problems...
Factory reset then leave your phone to recompile media database before attempting to use it, if this fails i suggest looking into custom roms since there are usually speed increases of around 48 ~ 49 %

hmm...
we've done similar things.. I wouldn't blame the card or the fact that you've copied 7Gigs of music though...
One thing i've noticed, is that straight after copying new things android indexes all the files, so after a hefty amount.. it will take quite a while.
I have noticed with my X10MiniPro recently, that it's a bit slow and buggy... though that's probably with my setup:
- Apps2SD with davlik cache on SD Card
- Gingerbread ROM
- JIT
and a shed load of apps i don't need but i have the space on SD so why not?
should hopefully be making my own ROM when i figure out how to get Cygwin working. And hopefully that rom will have updates and stuff until my contract ends, so about october next year..
Thanks guys I already figured it out I think. It seems that android does indeed index files synced to the sd. After a few reboots I opened Camera, and it said something like "processing media" or something...strange lol. But it's fine for now And good look with your rom, maclarenvj
Hi,
I recently purchased a Sony Ericsson live with Walkman. It has become very slow. Even the pictures in the gallery dont open. Can someone please suggest on how I can make it faster? How good is a task killer? Most websites dont recommend its use.
is your phone rooted? then look for a list of safe to freeze / save to delete apps and freeze / delete them with TitaniumBackup.
custom kernels are also doing a great job.

I think that is a problem with the sdcard, as pictures are stored and read in the card. I have no problems with my gallery being slow. If you want a faster loading of the pictures, get an original 4class sdcard or higher.
And here is why you should not use a task killer. Basically, android os is built to manage apps efficiently (details on link, too long for me to explain), so using a task killer will be redundant and will drain your battery faster, and consume more cpu.
If you want, just use a monitoring app and manually stop apps which is actually violating the cpu usage of your phone (i.e killing apps that should not be really there; rogue apps)
You installed app thats realy slowing your phone, just uninstall all apps and problem solved.
Maybe the memory card you got has some very sluggish read and write.speed.whixh affects the performance of your phone whenever it tries to access stuff in your memory card. And also monitor those apps that arr always running in the background.
You have to do Factory Reset and reinstall your apps again, one by one, still you identificate the app that gets slugging your device. Other way is to get a new SD Faster and make the test.

I think you have to factory reset your phone first, and there would be some problem in your SD card thats why yur gallery have problems !!
about task killer, then i would suggest don'tuse them bcos they use more and more emory thereby making your system slow !!
so finally factory reset will sove your problems and make sure to get a good quality sd cardl

Probably an overactive media scanner (android media process). I have the same problem since updating to the stock official 4.1.2 XXLS8.
I'm not sure what the solution is. You can disable the android media process (application manager -> media storage -> select and disable). However, if you do so then not only do you lose access to media files in the standard music and video players, but you also lose all your sound files for ringtones, notifications, email and SMS alerts etc. So as solutions go that one's a bit rubbish...
Rescan Media Root is also ineffective. I don't know why, possibly something to do with Jellybean that prevents it from working.
I've seen many posts in different forums about this, it seems to be a common issue with the 4.1.2 JB releases. Some say it is partly fixed in JB 4.2 but that isn't much use to us right now.
You could try reformatting your memory card as some say that corrupted files cause the problem. However, others say this 'fix' is unsuccessful and the excessive scanning continues regardless.

Try this workaround:
Copy you DCIM folder to your External SD Card. Empty Internal SD card's DCIM folder (files, not the folders, just leave it empty).
Set your external SD Card's DCIM folder to default for pics & video.
Reboot.

Sadly no change for me.
Emptied DCIM on internal SD, camera was already set to external SD for storage. Rebooted, and Android Media Process is now busy hammering my CPU again.
This is so frustrating. I lose 50% battery in ten hours, and I'm now scared to actually use the device at all when I'm out and about for fear of losing power altogether. Google have known about it since October - see this issue thread.
I had similar issues after I've installed the same rom on my phone. After a few awful days of fiddling with it and endless cycles of recharging, I've decided to do a clean reinstall. After I did a clean install last night, everything seemed better. The battery wasn't overheating, wasn't even draining that fast. During the night (5 hours of sleep I got, actually), BetterBatteryStats had shown me that I had only ~5 minutes of awake state vs the 5hrs of deep sleep.
But! Today after work, my battery started going crazy again. Left work with ~35% and I've discharged it completely after some 30-40 minutes of Ingress play (gps + 3g + screen on). Something's awfully wrong with this version, no fix worked for me (except the mediascanner issue which resolved itself after I did a clean install).
Any and every advice is more than welcome.

Try freezing gallery as soon as it boots, check with betterbattery stats if media scanner stops when you do.
If it stops it within 50 seconds or so make sure you have no files at all in internal DCIM, only the -empty- cache folder inside.

Hello,
I have also installed JB through Odin and facing same battery drain issue. It's finishing like a in a day without using any high app ( FB, Browsing, Twitter etc)
Please help me or I'll need to roll back to ICS .
you're kidding me right?
20 hours with 35% left on battery and 44% screen usage?
Bluetooth on, avast and who knows what more crap you got there. Every app running in background drains your battery, but again, you are looking at a 3 % / hour drain.

No, I am not kidding. it was just opened to test and received a reply on twitter once the wifi connected. If I am not using my phone and let it without open anything. Next day it will be at 70% which does not seem right to me. ICS was much better, I was using wifi and 3g as well almost all day than it used to go be on 40-50%.

Hi everyone, I just would like to know if kit Kat update is better than jb or not.
My friends who have Xperia z1 told me that they are facing some problems after installing kk update
So if you have installed it, please tell me which is better
Thanks
I have KitKat on my Xperia Z Ultra phone and like it except for one thing, there is a difference in the way external SD cards are handled, programs cannot delete/move/rename files in directories that they did not create, except for built in programs. So Root Explorer no longer can do it's thing on the SDCARD1 but works fine on SDCARD. File Commander comes with the ROM so it works fine, although it is much more clunky. This doesn't really cause too many problems but it's quite annoying. Google did it for some bizarre security reason, probobly to prevent you from gaining root via a SDCard.
On a similar topic, I've had KitKat on my phone for months, I wonder what's taking so long on the tablet? Quite annoying.

My girlfriends phone was running extremely slow so I rooted it and flashed a stock OL1 rom on it then I installed a font on it and it made the keyboard give FC every couple seconds and became unusable so I flashed the rom again and now it's still running slow would flashing the hisp kernel and changing the governors work? If so could you guys tell me how? I've tried doing a complete flash (everything but the SD card) and that didn't help either it works for like 10 minutes then starts going really slow again anyone got any ideas???
Backup whatever she needs like contacts, sms messages, etc then do a full emergency recovery in Samsung smart switch. If it runs slow after that she needs a new phone.

Alright I'll try that and I mean it worked fine until she took the oj4 update do you think that might have messed up the hardware?
like... choppy framerate? or delayed input? why dont you remove the sd card first, it could be trying to scan something in there
it doesnt make sense for a fresh stock ROM to be slow, but you should also disable any apps or services you dont use

Both I guess it takes like a solid minute for the keyboard to pop up when you go to type stuff and and especially on the lockscreen and apps like snapchat take a long time to load and come up when you open them and stuff like that

i've seen keyboard popup delays on a dell near aosp tablet before, the user was an idiot that installed as many apps as possible, crashing every few minutes, no ram free, etc
did you try my 2 suggestions? (remove sd card, disable what you dont use)
how do you know you didnt get a virus?

you rooted & flashed, yet dont know how to go to the ram menu that exists on pretty much every android for years?
why do you think some crappy antivirus is going to protect you, the biggest problem is always the user & what they choose to install (also how do you know the antivirus isnt demanding)
i'm not questioning the amount of space on the sd card, i am questioning if it happens to have a particular file that is causing the automatic gallery (among others) scan to get stuck at high load, you must have the card removed to prove that it's not the card
factory reset reloads files that are already stored on the device, meaning, they can be tampered with... the only true reset is reflashing a complete raw image from a computer, probably all of it (rom+bootloader+kernel+recovery, not just the rom)

lmao some things i use some things i dont i never really care to look at the ram in the ram menu because on my verizon s5 i have moar installed and it just says it when i pull down the notification tab lol but i installed avg on it and did a scan and something called demo strap came up as malware so i deleted it and looked it up and people said it wasnt malware and ah okay i see with the reset ill try it with the samsung emergency one and see if that works out if she lets me do it xD
what do you mean more installed, every s5 has the same ram, 2gb (i did say ram, not rom)
it doesnt matter what super phone or computer anyone has, people shouldnt install tons of crap they dont use & leave everything always on startup
that dell example i mentioned, it was ridiculous, like 4 different antiviruses, 3 different battery boosters, they were all conflicting with each other, sometimes it takes a min for the screen to come back on when you try to wake it, etc... all on 1gb ram with i think 64bit android (which uses more ram in the first place), after i reset it entirely & disabled everything possible, it still sits with barely 300mb free out of the 1gb
