So I just got my S4 last week and so I was curious about what kind of ROMs and other mods are available for it. Any recommendations ?
Also, can somone point me in the direction of a good guide on rooting this phone.

A lot of ROMs and mods... Look around.
The root guide is a sticky. Did you read anything before posting this?
And this is the wrong section for your post.

Yes I did read about some of the roms and mods. I was just looking for some recommendations on which ones to try out. And I musta missed the sticky on rooting. Didnt think it was a big deal to just ask.
And sorry, I didnt realize this was the wrong section. Roms are part of development and so I thought it was the right subforum. My bad.

Admin will move it but any questions non rom specific go in general questions... Any way read the sticky before posting as to not get beat up... If you want to test the waters and Have not tried any roms yet id say try bonestock its me7 based and very very stable. . When you get bored you can start flashing the others see what you like. . Good luck

What is the best way to root the atrix? Root so I can install a custom ROM.
you need to unlock the bootloader to install roms.

Best way is doing a little research before wasting your time opening useless threads in wrong forums

First this is the dev forum and your not a dev nor dose your thread lead to anything that is under development or hasn't been developed the hell out of to where its not relevant anymore, second you asked a question >,> there is a Q&A section for I don't know questions and answers <,< last you admit that you found multiple guides in your last bit so.... do tell why is this development with over 400 posts..... Id like to see you come up with a good explanation.....
Are any of you guys mods?? Let the mods do their jobs without adding more useless posts telling the kid how dumb he is

FFS, you could have just answered the dudes question with one post without bumping the thread to the top all day long.
Now, THE ANSWER IS: there is no best way. It either works or it doesn't (either successfully gives your root or doesn't).
Having said that, the most bullet proof way according to people's feedback is the preinstal method, BUT... CWM method and gingerbreak also successfully worked for me both on 2.2.2 and on 2.3.4.
p.s. People on here are right. You only create new threads in Development section if you developed something. You could have just left a post in one of the root threads, or opened a question thread in Q/A forums.
Cheers.

Rooting isn't required to install a custom ROM. Unlocking is.
Anywhoo, the dev section isn't a questions forum. Before you post, read the stickies.
Infraction given to OP, thread closed.
So I'm an att user and just came from the Motorola atrix to the SGS2. I am so lost on these threads idk where to start, can we get a sticky on the development page with links to root guides, mods, roms, and hacks? I really think this would help out a lot of people who just got the SGS2 in the US that weren't keeping up from day 1.

Most of the people don't know what stickies are and don't read them. Though I do agree.
There are stickies for some of these topics, check in the general forum.
There's no point having links to mods, roms and hacks, because each one has its own thread, so ... there's your link. Someone created a thread summing up most of the ROMs, but the thread is not stickied.

If you are new (like i am), this is one of the best places to start: willk22's FAQ and Guide
This forum has developed and matured with a lot of information since it's creation awhile ago. I really feel that there's a lot of basic, useful information burried in threads in here and the dev section that need to be stickied.
There's also a lot of repetitive threads that get posted which have been asked time and time again for which there are answers already existing. Collecting this knowledge together in an easy to access area would be awesome.
For instance, I just came on here to look up how to specifically do the deviceID mod to get rid of the compatibility issue in the market. I know the answer is here somewhere.. but it's going to take me a few minutes to find it when it should probably be stickied.
Anyone else feeling the same way?
I think that's a great idea. Rather than stickying a bunch of threads for all the common problems, it'd be better to compile them into a single locked thread and sticky that.
Yes, people requesting for all and nothing. I think we should do like other forums and do an index of rom(or themes, root, recovery for example)for both 4.0 and 5.0

yes that would be very helpful, everything is here is scattered
some things for 5.0us,5.0int,4.0 ..
Does the mod who can do that even view this forum? If not, he should enlist some moderators specifically for this forum who could sticky topics or compile them into a more concise list.

I was just catching up on the thread in the general section that says root has been achieved, and then the last post says that you can find the info in the development section? I don't see a development section for our phone yet, are they referring to the sprint models development thread? I'm apparently missing something here... When I first bookmarked our forum there was a development section, but I don't see it there anymore?
I think you need at least 10 quality posts to view the development thread. I've lurked here for a few years with not much to add since I'm no dev. It's time for me to give back where I can.
I believe they made all sections (General, themes, q&a and development) and opened them up together. After a few post in the General you should see it because it's definitely there

This is actually just a reference to a sprint root guide. You can thank cypher_zero for putting that together.

I am just confirming that this method works if you need clockwork mod and or root access.
It is working like a dream on my T999.
For those of you looking for a Video guide qbking77 put this video together for a quick guide. Be sure to thank him for that.

Glad I have been around for years then :-D, this was news to me.
yes, looks like the Dev forum is disabled for us rookies
Yeah, same here for me. I've been a lurker for years and now I "have to" be more involved. I guess it's not so bad.

Yea, that's ridiculous. Now we are going to have a bunch of noobs running around posting nonsense just so they can read the dev thread (not saying you are noob, looks like you've been here a while)

sorry
but what is the right forum?
Hi. The questions and answers section would be the best place for your post. And honestly there is no best rom. It would be rude to say one was better than another.
I say try three or four of them or all of them if you have time.
You should ask a mod to relocate this but likely someone already has.
I know whats its like to not know lol so no worries. But this is the development thread and nothing belongs here unless you created it.
Enjoy the flashing and remember to read before you flash.

Thread moved.
Please remember that the development section is only for threads on development.
Thread closed.
We also typically do not allow "best rom" threads because there is no one answer in most cases. Many users will have different views on this and it will often spark a pointless debate.
My suggestion to you is to make a backup and try a few ROMs for yourself.
Thank you
