[Q] Android email client - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear all.
What has happened to the email client in Android 4.3?
It used to have features like Sort by A-Z view by conversation etc. Any way to get this back on 4.3?
I'm sorry if this has been asked elsewhere I did check the forum and Google.
Thanks,
Michael.

[Q] Flagging Emails

I have done some search through the web and forums here and have a good feeling the answer is you can't but I thought I would ask anyway. Is it possible to flag emails using the gingerbread 2.3.4 email app? My phone specs and what I'm running are in my sig. Thanks for the help.

How can Android be missing this?

I am re-posting this from another user on a different forum. He/She wrote exactly what I wanted to say so why change it?
The major shortfall of Android ICS is the inability to handle standard Internet Calendar Sharing (ICS) meeting requests (calendar invitations) sent via email.
Every other platform in the world seems able to handle a meeting invitation sent from a calendar application, whether that is from Microsoft Outlook (worldwide standard in the business world), an iCal file from an Apple device. The web-based version of gmail correctly handles calendar invites and prompts one to respond with a "Yes/No/Maybe" reply.
The native Android gmail app shows either just a blank email or sometimes the text details of a meeting invite. There is no ability to respond to the meeting request. Instead, Android places the item on the Calendar and expects the user to respond to it there. The problem with this approach is the one needs to know where to look on the calendar.
A Google search shows that this has been a known issue for years, yet Google does nothing about it.
Short of ditching the native gmail app for a functional third-party app, how can one enable gmail to handle meeting requests the way every other email application does?

What I want to know is how a black and white screen BlackBerry from the stone ages can read and reply to meeting requests yet my dual-core, multitasking juggernaut of a phone can't preform this simple function. How on earth can Android/Google turn off business users like this??? I am aware that some 3rd party apps on Android do provide this function but they all require you to connect to an exchange server! W T F Google??????

My sensation seems to handle it ok. And im not using exchange.
Sent from my SX-SP715A using XDA
What email app?
dunno what's wrong with my ics but its working fine here, im getting invitation popups and i can respond yes/no/maybe. it seems though that the mail itself is rawtext if you open it, but the invitation will be triggered when the time is proper.

Not sure what caused your issues. I've had invites and responded from the following without problems:
1. Lotus Domino
2. MS Exchange
My systems:
1. Plain Gmail and Gmail calendar (for personal stuffs).
2. Google Apps Gmail and Google Apps Calendar (for business stuffs).
Hope that helps.
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Are you saying that in the Android phone's gmail app you get meeting request emails and have the YES/NO/MAYBE buttons available? If YES are you using and ms exchange server? If NO, did the person send the request from a gmail email address?
Invitation Plugin
Check if Invitation Plugin application can solve your issue. It opens ics invites in default calendar where you can accept/decline event.
You can get this app on Google Play:
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cleansoft.invitationplugin
For it to work you need to enable 'Automatically add invitations to my calendar' setting in Google Calendar
support.google.com/calendar/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=83117
It requires Android 4.0+ (Ice Cream Sandwich)
Hope that helps.
(Sorry I cannot post links yet just add http to urls)
Working for me

How do I add a custom Google email address to the mail app?

Hi everyone. I've had a look around and couldnt find the answer to my question.
Basically I have a website and I use Google to provide a custom email address. For example if my website was XDA then my email address would be lazee_wolf@xda.com
I've tried and failed to add my email address to the email app on Android. My previous two phones were iPhones and they had no problem with the email address, they added the custom email address easily.
It seems weird to me that Apple's iOS accepts Google's custom email addresses as standard but Google' Android doesnt seem to. Could anyone help me set this up? I'm sure I'm not the only one!

Viber Contacts + Viber account + Asus Memo Pad HD7

Dear friends,
I have Asus Memo Pad HD7 Android 4.2.2, with Viber on it. I have a problem of not being able to update contacts on it
I noticed the following:
1- Viber usually allows to pull and release contacts to update, but i can't on this device.
2- I have a Galaxy note 10.1 (N8000) which in the "Accounts" section of android settings has (a Viber Account), but can't find it on Memo Pad.
I hope there's a way to figure out what to do, is it an android problem that need a new ROM? or a Viber Problem? Does rooting help?

Dear sir,
no wonder the article wasn't helpful. I'm talking about a whole mechanism absent in this device (but surely exists for samsung at least). Which is viber syncing.
Again: on this device, the ability of pull and release is totally absent. In addition, I can add a google account, Facebook account, even a dropbox account, but I can't add a viber account... so syncing is totally absent ON MEMO PAD HD7
Your article explains how to use this feature right, but the problem is that you don't support it on this device
All devices running Android have the same features. There aren't certain features that are present on Samsung devices that won't be present on you Acer Memo Pad.
Please make sure that you have the latest version of Viber (version 4.3.3) on your tablet. The pull and release feature is available on that version.

E-mail client with text formatting on Android, how?

Hi,
I am coming from Apple world, now I am an happy user of a Samsung S6. But I was writing an important email when I realized that my favorite email app, Gmail, was not allowing me to make a word in bold or to create a bullet list..crazy!! I checked online and unfortunately didn't find anything yet.. I tried the stock Samsung one and Outlook, both very nice but nothing there too.
Now reconsidering to go back to Apple again..but not before to ask in the XDA forum..
Do you have any idea for solving or why in 2015 there isn't this feature enabled per default yet?
Thanks in advance!
Fabio
