Hey there,
Alright so a couple of days ago my WiFi on my Samsung Galaxy S2 phone just started acting weird. By weird I mean the further away I am from my router (like 1 bar wifi signal - opposite end of the house) websites load, however if I'm pretty much next to it with a max bar wifi signal nothing loads (or sometimes they do load but take extremely long)
In short, the further away from router wifi works fast, whereas the closer I am wifi works slow or doesn't even load websites/applications at all.
So what's happening here?
Thanks,
Jason
PS: No I'm not capped, and no one was/is downloading anything when I conducted my tests.

I hope all those details help (if they're things there that I shouldn't be sharing to the public please tell me, so I can remove them). Also, I haven't tried the original factory Rom for this phone to see if that fixes the problem, the only issue I have is I forgot what version and such I'm supposed to use.
Ohh and I bought the phone in Australia, if that's any help.
Remove the FFC ID but the rest is OK Yep, doing a clean install of stock (with wipe) is the next step. Re: which stock rom to use, go to Samfirmware & use the pulldown boxes to choose device/carrier/country & find one for your carrier. Doesn't matter much whether it's ICS or JB (though don't flash 4.0.4 stock; use something else) as you're only doing it to test.
Before you go down that path though, you could try a 'dirty' (without wiping) flash of your current rom/kernel. Though probably unlikely to work, it's worth a try given going back to stock is a bit of a pain. You could also try some other custom kernels given WiFi drivers are in the kernel & flashing a new kernel (and fresh drivers as a result) might fix the problem if it's a case of the drivers being messed up.
It could also be something router-side causing it, but we'll look at the phone-side first before looking at stuff like that.

Alright, So I'm on the SameMobile Firmware site and am now using the drop down boxes, I chose Model: GT-I9100 - Galaxy S II and then I'm stuck with Product Code. What do I chose here? Do I chose Vietnam because the phone was made there or do I chose Australia (Optus) because I remember a Optus boot screen on the original firmware (and the Modem is the same as the Baseband version - I9100XXLS9)?

How do I flash my current rom/kernel? I'm still very new to this whole rom scene, I just go off what I see in videos :/
How do you flash your current rom/kernel again ? To be really honest with you (and I'm not saying this to offend you), if you're asking that question you probably shouldn't be messing with your phone in the first place.
The same way you flashed it in the first instance.
If you still really don't know how to flash a rom or kernel, you really need to read the threads stickied at the top of Q&A and also the guides/tutorials stickied near the top of General. I'm not about to regurgitate stuff like that purely because you're unsure of what to do when that stuff has been asked/answered here thousands of times over the past two years. Also, just doing stuff without understanding what you're doing can easily lead to a busted phone.
Re: which stock firmware to choose, it doesn't matter (as I said in my PP), I just said choose one for your carrier because that's what I'd do, if you had Optus firmware on it previously, you can go with that. It's not really of any consequence.
However...
You need to read all of my PP. I did say to try reflashing your current custom rom/kernel first because this will be quicker/easier than going back to stock.

Oh I know what you meant by flash, it's just my lingo that Is off. Dw I understand what you meant now.
Okay, I reflashed my current rom (which was SuperNexus 3.0 Build 1) and that didn't fix the problem any bit.
Okay, now that i've finished downloading the original firmware you say, "doing a clean install of stock (with wipe) is the next step". How exactly do I do a clean install? Does that mean wipe everything, un-root, I've never done this before?
You don't seem to be reading everything I've posted:-
"If you still really don't know how to flash a rom or kernel, you really need to read the threads stickied at the top of Q&A...".
Oh, look. 4th thread from the top in Q&A 'flash stock Samsung firmware'. In other words, as I've already said, I'm not going post stuff for you that's already been posted here & is easy to find purely because you want your hand held.

Anyway... I did everything the guide said to do. Tested out the internet just then and its still doing the same thing :/

Alright so early this morning I looked and saw no reply, so I just went a tried somethings out. I reset my router/modem and now everything seems to be working fine.
Thank you MistahBungle, for being the only person that helped me out of the 200~ odd users who viewed the thread and didn't even bother to reply.

WTF??? A quick Google of SPH-D700 shows that to be the Samsung Epic 4G, which is a Sprint phone. The I9100 is a GSM phone. Sprint is a CDMA network. I hope you're planning on changing carriers if you hope to use the I9100.
Unless you're just confused, and actually ordered a Sprint variant of the Galaxy SII, which is the SPH-D710, or as they call it, the Epic 4G Touch.
Just so I'm clear, the I9100 will NOT work on Sprint's network.
Yea I'm aware that I am on sprint right now. I am aware that the i9100 is GSM, and yes I will be using att.

Hey, I had to check. Some folks just make uninformed decisions and are baffled when the equipment they order doesn't work on their network.
LP6 with my GPS fix works pretty damn well. FM Radio is the only real issue I have encountered. If you want a more ICS experience, push trebuchet or NOVA launcher to /system/app and it will be much better.

It's so popular it's one of those phones - like Desire HD - that's known inside and out Been out in europe for ages, but the US had better carrier specific devices, faster CPUs, etc. At it's core the same device mind.
I was in no rush for ICS but tried WanamLite and all was fine, although the launcher freezes now and then which I put down to a full phone, and an early rom.
This used the CM9 trebuchet launcher. I've got to say almost everything about ICS is cleaner, faster, smoother than previous roms - custom or not. Easy task control, nice display, and little things I still keep discovering like when you connect via USB you get a choice of media device or camera (with the usual USB development option off).
I've had this thing months and must have flashed 50+ roms lol. In the end I stuck with Leomars then the combined Leomar/Checkrom HD because of the kitchen app for easy addons and upgrades.
If youve never used a samsung dont worry, its usually a simple app that will root it and install a recovery console <- very important, cause after that you can flash anything, and as long as you get back to recovery youll be fine. Backup often - complete rom via the recovery (power on, vol down) and a data/app backup with Titanium.
I don't think you need worry about ADB or odin anymore, but if you do just follow instructions on this site...
Your reward? the best phone around esp if the rom you use adds neat things like Jkays extensions, modded apps, kitchens, good theme engine, etc. For pure Android go for AOSP roms, otherwise they're a mish mash of parts.
Change the boot anim if you want, you might get a yellow warning triangle because the sammy knows the roms "illegitimate" but its easily removed.
Finally, should you need to, the stock roms and kernels and modems are here too if you need to get everything back to default, best get them quick as the download sites are dissapearing, or rip yours first before you burn another...
Have fun! You couldn't pick a better handset right now

Just FYI. Bold/Italic/Underlined part is not exactly true. Some of the US carrier specific models have completely different hardware, and have faster clock speeds because they use inferior CPUs.
i got my i9100 today. but i am having some problems trying to get it rooted. using this method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414 when i go to get the insecure kernel my kernel is not listed, and my original kernel is not listed either. So i am not sure if i do this rooting method using any kernel from the list if it will brick my phone or not.
waiting a reply from someone in the threads before i proceed.

From what I can tell, you need the insecure KJ2 kernel. That kernel is no longer directly linked on Odia's insecure kernel page, but there's a link to his Hotfile upload site where all older kernels are stored.

I am officially rooted. Thank you very much. now to get CWM installed!
With the update to 4.1.2, it seems that the Australian version has the bottom icons locked. You can't change them. I've researched this and its only in Australia.... I was pretty pissed off with this, but I thought I could get used to it. Well, I can't.
So being the noob that I am, I thought simply rooting the device would allow me to solve this issue, but it doesn't seem to be that simple.
What I want to do with this phone is to unlock the bottom icons, and get rid of all carrier related stuff (boot animations, apps, etc.). Ideally I want to run pure android 4.1.2, as I'm not a fan of touchwiz, but I tried looking and I couldn't find anything, which is probably down to me being a noob. I wouldn't have a clue how to install it properly either.
So it's a Galaxy S2 I900T
The phone is on Telstra
It has been rooted
It's running stock 4.1.2
If there is anymore info you need to know in order to help me, just let me know and I'll add it.
Thanks in advance!
Well...... You could just run a custom launcher. Search for Nova launcher on the play store. It's the one I use, it's customisable to just about whatever you want.
If you're rooted and do actually want to run stock android instead of just changing the launcher, then look for the index of ROMs in the s2 section. I think GaboWinter is the OP. Look under the AOSP section in there for the stock android ones.
Quick tip, if you do flash a rom you'll have to flash an i9100"t" specific modem or your coverage will be dismal.
Ps. Is it really just the Australian version that can't change the dock icons. How rubbish.

if you want pure android, you'll probably be unable to find 4.1 since it's obsolete in aosp and I'd advise you to go with either 4.2 or even 4.3, as 4.2 especially is highly stable.
also, the guy above me is mistaken about modems, the stock i9100 modems work fine on the t variant, just depends on your carrier which ones you want to use.
to install a rom just flash a recovery image from odin (e.g. Dorimanx or PhilZ) and then copy the necessary zips to your sd, boot to recovery, and flash them
remember to back up your data first though

Just to clarify.... "the guy above you" owns an i9100 and maintains a friend's i9100T. If you mean the international i9100 modem is able to be flashed on an i9100T, I agree. I've done it. I know you also own "T" variant.
What happens in my case is that the data speeds are so dismal you'd be better off using an encyclopaedia than googling something (literally 2Kb/s in some areas. Flashing a "T" specific modem sees the speed jump to 250-300Kb/s or so in the same spot). I'm guessing by your post you have better success than that with i9100 modems on a "t" variant.

No probs mate Odd that you say that, I use XXMS2 /MS3 myself, so naturally tried them on my friend's T variant immediately after rooting. Both modems were dismal and got the 2Kb/s (sometimes hitting 20ishKb/s :0) I mentioned. Now I've got them on DULP4 & no issues at all

Hey, I followed this tutorial to root my s2 (youtube) watch?v=CCgncF59mwE and I am now at the last step where I root the device using Samsung Quick Root. The problem is it's stuck. It only did 1 step -- checked for Connection and it passed and now it's at Checking TEMP ROOT Access... and in the bottom right corner it sais - Perm Rooting device, Please Wait- I have been waiting for 28 minutes, is this normal is it stuck? What do I need to do to not screw anything up ?
Flash a custom kernel like Siyah or PhilZ which will give you root+CWM which will then enable you to backup/restore/flash whatever you want. How ? Search. Will save you mucking around with a method like that (even CFRoot would be quicker/easier).

I am so lost, here I just want to root/install a custom rom but I don't want to screw anything up, anyone that can show me a good noob tutorial for my S2 i9100 (BVKE2 - 2.3.3 Android Version) ?
2.3.3 ?? Wow. Haven't seen that since forever.
If it were me, I'd flash an ICS (not 4.0.4, stay away from 4.0.4 stock roms period) or JB stock rom for my carrier/country, then flash the appropriate custom kernel. Trust me when I say you don't want to try to do anything with your phone by 'taking shortcuts' or being in too much of a hurry to do anything. Take your time, read the guides/tutorials so you know what you're doing before you do it.
Someone else might tell you how/what to do on Gingerbread but I wouldn't do anything to the phone unless I'd updated to ICS or JB first. Maybe QuickRoot doesn't work with the Android version you're running given how ancient that is ? (I'm not motivated enough to read the thread devoted to it on here to find out).

Thing is there's no info on my carriers website on how to flash a stock JB or ICS. And when I try to do it from the phone it sais there's is no update for me to do. And when I open kies I can't update it with that cause there's no option for it. I have no idea how to update it safely.
What I found was this website -> samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9100 but I am unsure on what to do, under version, does that mean my kernel version ? Cause I have BVKE2 and I can't find that there. If it doesn't matter what version I download then I can flash it with Odin I guess... I could use a bit of guidance
OK.
Best place to get firmwares is Samfirmware.com. They have pulldown boxes where you can choose device/country/carrier & it will give you all the firmwares your carrier has released. As to which one to choose, that's up to you. As to how to flash stock firmware (and root/other stuff), 3rd thread stickied at the top of Q&A (as well as the guides/tutorials) has pretty much everything you need. Thing is, you could have easily found that yourself.
On that note, I repeat my warning in my PP to be very very careful & make sure you understand what it is you're doing before you do it. You give me the impression you just picked QR without knowing how it works, I've lost count of the number of times I've seen that end badly for people here over the past almost 2 yrs. As long as you take your time & learn before you do, the risks to your device are minimal.

Part 6: Rooting [OPTIONAL]
Quote:
*NOTE* Rooting your phone will void your warranty! No service center will accept phone if rooted.
To root your phone, download the rooting file, depending on what firmware have you downloaded. This is the best way for rooting,as it doesn't get you the yellow triangle.
Ice Cream Sandwich XWLP7 (4.0.3): ...link
Jelly Bean XWLSW (4.1.2): ... link
1.Put the file on your External SD!
2.Reboot into Recovery.
3.In recovery, select "Install update from external storage",and search the downloaded file, and install it.
4.Reboot
I'm stuck at this - what if my versions of ICS or JB are none of the above?
I've been running CyanogenMod 11 for about a month now. I like it a lot, however there are instabilities. Youtube cannot play videos at all, for example; Snapchat totally fails to work; and one or two apps I've tried to install wouldn't even open. Occasionally a program will crash with a "Such-and such service has stopped" error notice.
Can anyone suggest a more stable ROM? I'm a newbie to flashing, I'm not experienced or interested in trying out different ROMs. I'm not a power user, I just want a stable, reliable ROM. Is cm11 known to have the issues I'm experiencing? Can anyone suggest an alternative?
Thanks.

Since cm-11.0 for this device is not in nightlies major bugs should be expected. Sorry, I don't have a suggestion, but I have a question. Does the headphone jack work on cm11?

Yes, the headphone jack works fine.
I've made the decision to return to the official Samsung ROM, so if anybody could point me in the direction of a safe, reliable download for that I'd be very grateful.
Incidentally, what's "nightlies "?

Nightly is the first "Official" status of a device from CM. If the device is very stable, with all system working properly and with minimal buggy behaviors CM begins building the ROM officially as a "Nightly" assuming the dev is following best practices etc.

I don't think that anyone has the stock rom for the Mega(s) yet, waiting patiently for the guys upstairs to crack the bootloader.
however you might try to restore with Kies.

You are not right, I for instance have stock ROM on my Mega and I am quite satisfied... Ohhh, maybe I'm a little lying... :silly: it is MegaFireMj2V5 from megalomanic14 which is based upon a stock ROM but is greatly improved - if you are looking for alternative to stock or CM11 rom's it's worth a shot.
As for return to stock ROM - be careful to choose right version: all new firmware (beginning from CNA1) are 'enhanced' with new bootloader and Samsung KIES which is new security system. If you upgrade your Mega by Kies or by Odin with newest firmware you will be lacked possibility to downgrade AND every attempt to root or flash custom recovery will result in tipping flashing counter without any possibility to clear it. So be extremely cautious if you want to mod your Mega with no problems.
You can choose older firmware on Sammobile an flash it thru Odin - then you will have fresh stock ROM on your unit. There are many tutorials how to do it.

Many thanks, guys.
I've been on Sammobile and selected "I9205XXUCNA2_I9205BTUCNA1_BTU.zip", which I intend to install in the next couple of hours unless anyone on here screams at me that I shouldn't! I'm in the UK with a GT-i9250, so I believe that's the right version for me.
To be honest, I'm not worried about tipping the flashing counter (if I even understand properly what that means). I rooted my phone some time ago, and liked that. Two weeks ago I decided to try Cyanogenmod since I've never used a different ROM. I wasn't impressed, and have decided I want to go back to Samsung original. If, in the process, I prevent myself from ever being able to flash another alternative ROM, or I void the phone's warrenty in any way, I can live with that.

OK, it's your choice... in fact newest firmware do not offer nothing new but bootloder without return and KNOX. CNA2 it's firmware with KNOX embedded. For mundane user this means nothing special, but for somebody who plan to root and mod it could be pain in... Try to read a little about rooting firmware with KNOX... but as I said, you are warned... tipping counter means setting flag which shows to e.g. service so there was installed unofficial software and it means so you are lacking your warranty. With firmware with KNOX this is irreversible because setting such flag physically burns efuse in system making hardware change. Cheers...
I stay on firmware without KNOX because of possibility to change ROMs and easy install custom software. Waiting for KK which for sure will have 'new type' bootloader and then will be no choice...

You make a good case, and perhaps I should install an earlier version, then. Thanks. However, I've looked on Sammobile and they seem to offer only the latest version. Where can I download an earlier KNOX-free version, please?

Agreed. You guys have convinced me that I should be flashing an old version of Samsung, not the latest with KNOX. But I can only do that if I can find one! Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

Hmmm, you are right... In such case i recommend you to install custom ROM MegaFireMJ2V6 made by megalomanic14 on basis stock MJ2 which you can find HERE.
Actually I am using this ROM and can say it is very good - looks like stock but is much faster. It's rooted already. Version X offer firmware stripped from unneeded apps to the extent.

Thank you very much. Most of that sentences was Greek to me, but I get the idea! The truth is, I put my foot into the water of flashing custom ROMS, and decided it wasn't for me. I just want one, reliable ROM that I can live with for many months without having to change it. That's why I decided to go back to Samsung, because there were too many bugs in Cyanogenmod and I don't want to start testing one ROM after the next. I just want to install a reliable, bug-free ROM now, and have done with it. So you think that MegaFireMJ2V6 would be such a ROM in my case?
PS:
It seems MegaFireMJ2V6 can't be downloaded from that link anyway?

Thank you, but I've tried this several times, and the only download available is the most recent.
You are wrong. It shows all the firmwares released for a model. I can see all the releases for GT-I9200. Attached is a screenshot of the older firmware without knox....
As far as I understand it, these are all the same ROM, simply different versions for different countries. When I put in my phone, GT-i9250, I am presented with a similar page, but it's only the one ROM; 4.2.2 with KNOX.
Ok man, I am done trying to explain things to you. The list you showed only displays Knox firmware, but what you said is not true. Here is another site with older firmware displayed for the I9205. There is no I9250 model Mega afaik..

I apologise if I have offended you in any way, that certainly wasn't my intention. I'm simply new to all of this and don't understand it well. I appreciate the new link, and thank you for your help.
EDIT: I took the different way out and backed up the stock rom from another Admire 2 and reflashed, now everything works.
JustinK116 said:
ok, so I was messing around with my galaxy admire 2, and I accidentally soft bricked it. I've looked around on the forums, and got a ROM that is not completely compatible with this generation of Admire 2 I have.
Here are the Baseband and Build Number / Hardware version / Model
Model: SCH-R830C
Baseband: R830CVV(AMI4)
Build: JZO54K.R830CVV(AMG1)
Hardware version: R830C.03
The parenthesis and colored area of Baseband and Build numbers are the things I found are different, my mom has this same exact phone and her build number ends with AMI4 just like her baseband, Which is the STOCK from the Cricket store. I cannot find this rom and I don't want to root her phone in order to copy the rom.
Really the only problem with this rom I installed is that it is amg1, and not ami4, so it is not completely compatible. Example: My Wifi, and Bluetooth no longer turn on and cannot function at all. Which is a feature I kind of need.
Here's the real question: Can someone get a real stock rom of this Cricket Galaxy Admire 2. with the build number ending with AMI4 and not AMG1.
I've heard it called "Second generation hardware" or something from another thread, but still cannot find a real stock rom for this phone.
Though I havn't seen many posts with this phone posting the build number, and baseband versions, so the stock rom's that people upload would vary, though they all seem to be the AMG1 version.
I have no idea if this is in the right category or not of the forums, so if it isn't maybe a mod or someone can move it to the right place.

No lol, I downloaded some toolbox to kinda tweak some system stuff, and it got stuck in a boot loop, so I just downloaded whatever Rom I found that would work with this thing.
I am kind of new to tweaking with android and phones in general, so I didn't really care about backing up the stock at the time, didn't even think about it really, though I also didn't expect the tool to completely soft-brick my phone xD
